Ramen
Elizabeth K.

We had a cozy lunch here. I loved all the vegetarian options (I had spicy ramen without the spicy). The added simmered tofu was a bit too sweet for my taste but the whole bowl was warm and generous. The service was very friendly and I would go back for sure.

Spicy tan tan ramen

Wow! I'm not vegetarian but always up for good veggie options and saw this place get excellent reviews so it was too good to pass up. Am I so glad I did! I came in at lunchtime, not crowded, tried the tan tan ramen. Wow the flavors are out of this world. So good - hard to describe but the flavours are so incredible. I can see why this place is award winning. Not only the broth but the noodles are great too. I would come back in a heartbeat - in fact I'm gonna bring my wife here who was skeptical when she passed by the front.

Spicy Tan Tan Ramen + Chocolate Cupcake + Lavender Latte
Dana S.

They have a hot food menu but there are also bowls and sandwiches in a grab and go fridge, which they will heat or (for salads) toss for you if you'd like to eat in. They also sell dried noodles. take-home ramen kits, lots of frozen foods, and a small assortment of local crafts like cards. I'm not a big ramen person, so I came here thinking I'd probably get a sandwich, but the spicy tan tan ramen sounded different and caught my attention, so I ordered that along with a chocolate cupcake and a lavender latte. The ramen was amazing! I could've happily eaten the creamy squash broth on its own, or the pate-like nut mix that it was topped with. The noodles had a good tenderness as well. The broth was pretty oily and it was a little too much for me. I know that the oil is where the spice comes from and the spice was very much a good thing, but I would have liked it better if some of that spice had come from other channels so that the broth wasn't so oily. However this is just my preference as I prefer very low oil in my food in general; if you like a rich broth, you might be fine with the oil level in this. After my first few bites of the cupcake, I was not convinced, but by the time I was finishing it, I was in love with the deep dark chocolate flavour and richness of the frosting. The cake was a little on the dry side, but honestly it didn't really matter because the flavour was there. The lavender latte was just okay. I got it decaf, and I always drink decaf and mostly like it so it's not like I'm a snob about regular vs decaf, but I did feel that this one "tasted decaf" - a little over-roasted and lacking in depth. Nothing off about it though, just missing the wow factor. That being said, I really liked the extra foamy cap! I bought a cup of natto from them to take home because I've never seen a shop selling homemade natto here! Very good! North Vancouver is a hike for me, so although I would love to come back and get that sandwich, who knows if or when I'll get the chance... but I'm glad I found the chance to come out at least this once because this might be the most I've ever enjoyed a bowl of ramen!

Mushroom ramen with truffle oil

I went to have the mushroom ramen again it sadly it's not available until October :( Ramen is $19 now (gaaaaa.... Inflation). Add an egg for $3. Kaedama is $5. This place is pretty expensive. The ramen noodles were nice and had the perfect bite. The tan tan broth was quite nice and rich but I still prefer the mushroom broth.

Spicy Tan Tan Ramen (vegan)

I decided to try this place out again, as it'd been over 6 years since I visited. I ordered the same dish as before: the Spicy Tan Tan Ramen (now $19 plus tax) and added some smoked tofu ($3). The soup came out in about 6 minutes with a generous portion. The soup included kale, butternut squash, a nut and soy medley, and green onions, with what seemed like buckwheat noodles. The broth was rich and very thick, but not particularly complex or elegant. Shame they still do the organic thing, which must inflate the price, while not actually offering any health or environmental benefit. (I wish people would stop erroneously assuming organic=good; the evidence says otherwise.) Not one of the best vegan ramens in Greater Van by a long shot. I've tried literally every place that offers vegan ramen, and I'd put this in the lower third. Decent but I wouldn't particularly recommend it and can't see myself returning any time soon.

Shoyu ramen in mushroom broth

This is THE only go to place for tasty ramen noodles on the North Shore. You can't go wrong eating yummy organic ramen at reasonable prices. I always have the spicy tan tan ramen. It's served either cold or ho in their signature creamy organic butternut squash broth & rayu chilli oil. It definitely warms the soul on a cold winter day. We also had the shoyu ramen in mushroom broth with truffle-shallot oil. It was a treat to try their handcrafted vegan steam bun. Delish. They are an ideal eatery for vegetarians and vegans. They also offer frozen vegan ramen noodles at various food places such as IGA, Meridian Farm Market & Stongs. Check their website for various locations. Unfortunately, they are only open for lunch on weekdays from 11 am to 6 pm Mon to Friday. If you enjoy eating healthy and organic food, you can't go wrong here. They're located off Marine Drive and Pemberton in North Vancouver. There's complimentary parking on the street.

Despite the fact that I go the the gym nearby every week, I have yet to eat here until recently. Wow, have I been missing out! I tried their spicy tan tan ramen and asked for it mild since I have a low tolerance for spicy heat. They offered to make it non-spicy, but I was feeling adventurous (as adventurous as a non-spicy food lover can get, hehe). Mild turned out to be perfect for me; I could taste it in the broth and it added such great flavour to the dish, flavour that--after tasting--I know I would be seriously missing if I had gone the non-spicy route. I also added a soft-boiled egg to the dish, because what's ramen without an egg? Speaking of, the texture of the ramen noodles was spot on. I loved watching the staff prepare them as well. I've heard that their vegan cinnamon rolls and mochi cakes--the latter of which are also gluten free-- are must-tries, but I was so full after the ramen that I just couldn't do it! I will most definitely be back to get some though. If you've never been here, you will seriously enjoy it. From the feel-good food to the wonderful market on the side showcasing their own handmade goods, as well as other locals', you'll fall in love with this place very quickly.

Frozen vegan croissants

As an omnivore I'm open to anything that tastes good. And when hosting a vegan friend I'll suggest Workshop for lunch. Recently our mechanic (CAC Auto) sent us a gift basket from the Workshop. We are trying various at-home products and they are amazing. The vegan croissants that I left out overnight to rise looked very promising as I put them in the oven. The family thought they were amazing. Fully comparable to non-vegan alternatives, they will please all (like they did for our family). Top notch.

Beautiful day to eat an amazing meal!

Super delicious hole in the wall. Definitely worth checking this gem out. Service was amazing. And I mean, from every single person. I ordered kombucha, a GF vegan brownie, GF vegan pizza toast, and cashew noodle bowl! Holy shit this was a lot of food and freaking worth it! The pizza toast, made with their in house GF fat slab of bread, was worth more then the $4 they charge. The marinara and sautéed mushrooms melted together. It was heaven and such a treat. Kombucha was fresh and flavourful. Tangy, some one say. The browny was absolutely, melt in your mouth, delicate! What a freaking treat. Cashew Noodle bowl was big with a good amount of veg and sauce! Fresh and light. The place is small but jam packed with treats and lovely people! I will definitely come back here!

I'm slowly shifting my diet to more plant base. So I'm on this adventure finding vegetarian restaurants. I love Asian food and when I saw ramen, I was sign me up. We ordered the tan tan with soft boiled egg and vegan kimchi on the side. I ordered the avocado toast because a little avocado toast never hurt no body. To my surprize the ramen was ahhhhmazing! The noodles are all in house made and was served piping hot! I felt so satisfied and full. Their toast was good!!! We had the 4 little bites of matcha, yonzu, chocolate rice cupcakes? Yonzu ( not sure if that's how you spell it ) but was my least favourite. If you guys are meat eaters and want to try something new and comforting come here and give this place a try. The staff was friendly, they spoke Japanese and super clean.

First time here today! Oh my gosh, what a CUTE place! It's so bright, nicely renovated, and has a cute/casual/modern feel to it. It was very clean inside. There is also a little mini shopping section off to the side. There's pre-made takeaway stuff like soups, Buddha bowls, smoothies, drinks, cute t-shirts/tank tops, dry goods like nutritional yeast & amaranth and I saw some chickpea miso for sale in the fridge too! What we ordered: Organic nama shoyu ramen, Organic spicy tan tan ramen, Organic Kyoto style udon, Housemade kombucha, Fresh daily smoothie (chocolate/banana), 3 Monster chocolate chip cookies. Organic nama shoyu ramen: the broth had blended mushrooms in it and the ramen itself had different types of whole and halved mushrooms in it. The ramen noodles were cooked perfectly and the broth had really delicious flavour. There were organic mixed greens on top and truffle shallot oil in it. It all worked so well together. Would order it again. Organic spicy tan tan ramen: very rich creamy broth. Was not very spicy at all so don't let the spicy title scare you away. The butternut sesame broth was so delicious. There was mushrooms in it and the ramen noodles in this one were perfectly cooked as well. VERY delicious ramen. Will most definitely order again. Organic Kyoto style udon: Very simple dish of just clear kelp/seaweed tasting broth, noodles and yuzu rind. Noodles were a little thinner than the typical udon noodles you see, I believe these are house-made. The house made kombucha was on tap and a light yellow colour. It was very light and really yummy tasting! Would definitely order again! The chocolate/banana daily smoothie was really thick, almost like a pudding! It had blended nuts in it and we ate it with a spoon. It was very good and was almost a meal in itself. The monster chocolate chip cookies were the size of our faces! And they were soft! I LOVE soft chocolate chip cookies...plus these were vegan so I just LOVE them. These cookies with a glass of almond milk...so good. The service was great. Looks like this is a family run business and all the employees seem to be Japanese. They are so incredibly sweet and gracious. I can't wait to come back again and try the Buddha bowl when we return to Vancouver.

This is a nice cafe in the neighbourhood. I stopped by for a latte and was impressed at the food options. I need to come back to try the food. Service for my drink was fast and efficient. Drink tasted as expected.

Absolutely delicious tan tan noodles.

Absolutely delicious food. 100% recommend for anyone looking for homemade food for the soul

Ok ok, what's better than driving to Canada to eat vegan food, I'll tell you .. driving to Canada to eat vegan food while meeting new vegan friends! We decided to meet up at Mila Plant-Based, 100% vegan restaurant in the downtown area sort of right in-between Downtown Eastside, Science World, and Gastown. The restaurant has a lovely, quaint ambiance, feels very welcoming upon entering. The bathroom was .. well, posh! I don't normally make a point to comment on bathroom decor, while average in size, I felt like I was being upgraded to First Class lol. Ok, moving right along .. lol They have two menus, a Weekend Brunch Menu and, for all other hours, a Lunch/Dinner Menu, ..we ordered from the Weekend Brunch Menu. I had the Bibimbap Bowl - rice bowl with Yo Egg, mushroom bacon, kimchi, tempura yam, cucumber, carrot, gochujang sauce. This bowl had many layers of unique flavors all married perfectly in every exquisite bite, I say this very sincerely! My wife ordered the Pina Colada Pancakes - pancakes, toasted coconut syrup, cashews, cocktail cherries, rum-candied pineapple, mint. Each bite easily lived up to the the decadence displayed in the included image. We absolutely have to find our way back to Mila to try their Lunch/Dinner menu as it includes some amazing sounding options such as, Feta Stuffed Date - date, feta, pistachio, olive oil, maldon salt, ABURI LOX OSHI - carrot lox, aburi sauce, shiso, serrano, 6 pieces, Tuna Crispy Rice - watermelon akami tuna, sushi rice, lime kewpie mayo, green onion, sesame seeds, 3 pieces, and much more. We had quite a few options to choose from regarding where to meet for brunch, with every option sounding wonderful in their own way. Ultimately, we decided on Mila because of their unique, fresh and inspiring sounding dishes and yeah, they did not disappoint. Thanks so much for dropping by and reading this review. Do yourself a favor and extend the same courtesy to Mila by ... dropping by .. and enjoying some amazing tasty food.

I got the Bao, Tostada, Crispy rice and one more piece of sushi to try. The server was kind and recommended all of the dishes I ordered. There was nothing I would not want to taste for a second time! The restaurant was decorated nicely, but nothing remarkable so I was surprised by the presentation of the food!

Seating is limited inside, but there are plenty of exterior seats and benches on the outside (W and N facing). The inside has a high ceilings with all the white ductwork visible. This venue also has quite a large bakery production area. Staff are friendly and professional. I must say I was skeptical as the place was vegan. Tried their flat white, as well as their Nanaimo bar. Both were absolutely delicious. I guess the only downside to the place is that it bakes in the afternoon sun because of all the large W facing windows. Talk about a pleasant surprise. I'd gladly come by again for more coffee and bakery goodness. Highly recommended.

I had the Freaky Greeky with a yam-cassava crust. I chose that since the menu board boasted it's vitamin and mineral content. Sold!!! It had (what I assume was) Daiya Mozzarella and Cashew style feta, black olives, tomatoes, basil and walnuts. I have to say that the walnuts were the most pleasant surprise of the toppings. An added crunch and some true delicious flavor!! The crust, being GF and the specific ingredients, led it to be quite crunchy, but I love crunchy crusts. I hadn't had lunch but a few hours prior so I had half the pizza at dinner, than half before bed after drinks! Yum!!! My husband had the Samsara Sausage pizza. He said it was just okay. He said the sausage tasted like a Light life Hot Dog. Which is obviously NOT what you're going for with sausage. Our friends shared the Buffalo Buddha pizza and gave hubby their last piece. He said that was quite nice and he'd have had that again. They too had the GF Yam-cassava crust. I'd definitely get this pizza again but I would NOT walk here and preferably be in a group for safety.

Vegan Shoku - Vegan Salmon ... unbelievable in flavour

Wow! First of all, vegan sushi spots are still an uncommon find so the fact this exists is such a…read moretreat. In the Bay Area we have Shizen/Tane and which I can safely say are still pretty different from Vegan Shoku. (Both are so good!!). Vegan Shoku uses konjac-based sashimi which allows for sashimi and nigiri that looks like its conventional fish counterparts. Today, we ordered 1. Salmon Eggplant This reminded me of nasu dengaku but with a "salmon salad" (think tuna salad) on top of charred eggplant. There was a miso sauce, the same that's used for nasu dengaku dressing the entire thing. The eggplant was creamy but not oil-laden, and the salmon worked nicely with the eggplant and miso dressing. Every bite was perfection. Each bite was garnished with fried carrot strings and beet. Sooooo good! 2. Shoku Roll We figured we should definitely order this since it's the restaurant's namesake. Since it was topped with mango & a popping boba, it had a hint of sweetness which was refreshing. 3. Dynamite Roll Absolutely gorgeous roll that packed as much flavor as it did color. The sweet, savory, creamy and crunchy.... this roll takes you on a journey and more! 4. Teriyaki Beef Roll Don't ask questions, just order this! It's like a beef donburi in roll form. 5. Salmon Nigiri I've never been a fan of seafood so this was a bit of a risky pick. Sure enough, it was too realistic for me so I had to hand it off to my bf to finish. For those who love and miss the taste of salmon, this is a must try! 6. Takoyaki While this looked like takoyaki, it definitely wasn't. They were still tasty but they were more like meatballs than anything. Takoyaki is supposed to have chunks of octopus (which when I make it at home, I use konyaku), shredded cabbage, ginger in a savory pancake-like batter cooked in a ball-shaped cast iron mold, topped with aonori, mayo and brown sauce. The meatballs were in a brown sauce of some kind and were incredibly robust and meaty. They were too meaty for my liking (some mock meats sort of gross me out!) but that's more of a preference thing and doesn't speak to the quality. It was very flavorful, it just wasn't for me. 7. Matcha Ice cream The ice cream looked like it was slice from a cake! Maybe they peeled back the paper carton of the ice cream and cut a slice from that. It looked super surgical and clean, like art! The flavor was super robust and matcha-y. It was not the typical (disappointing) green-colored ice cream that tasted mostly of vanilla and had hints of match. This was the real deal! What a rare find! It extremely pricey but it more than made up for all the times I've ordered green-colored matcha imposter ice creams, so get this if you are a matcha lover! Being how uncommon these types of restaurants are, the server was super patient in answering my questions and was helpful in making suggestions too. If I find myself in BC in the future, you can bet I'll be making another stop in here to try other items on their menu. This was such a treat!!

I think there was a bit too much rice used in the sushi. Smaller amounts of rice would have been preferred. Also, we found that the Salmon Avocado Oshi tasted just like the Tuna Avocado Oshi. Either that, or they gave us two identical sushi orders by mistake instead of 1 Salmon Avocado Oshi and 1 Tuna Avocado Oshi. I was kinda bummed that they didn't have their vegan spam that day. Hoping to go back some other day and try it. If it weren't for the vegan spam though, I probably wouldn't bother coming back to this restaurant again. Pains me to say that as I'm usually a huge supporter of plant based restaurants but...this restaurant was really just OK for me. Not horrible, but aside from wanting to try their vegan spam...the food just wasn't good enough for me to want to come back again.
