My friend, and former supervisor, Mike was retiring. (well, retired as of press time) I needed a gift for him; I just can't show up at his retirement party not bringing squat, especially, when I haven't seen him since I left the county hospital in 2005. Moreover, I haven't RSVP'd or anything because I just found out where the party was being held...let's see, oh about, 2 hours before the actual event! (actually, I didn't even know there was such a party until the very last minute!!!) Anyhoo, I seriously thought this was going to be the party that never was. I Next thing I knew, I landed in the aisles of cost plus, and I needed something...STAT!!! I was making a mental list of the things that Mike enjoys the most: a) golfing, b.) drinking wine c.) cigars. Well, cross out choice A. It's too late to get anything golf-related. Forget choice C, cost plus does not sell cigars. That leaves me with the default choice then. I immediately marched over to the wine aisle, grabbing a Robert Mondavi Cab. Hmm...maybe I should go for BV? I was ready to head over to the cashier when my eyes caught the champagnes on the wall. "BUBBLY BLOWOUT!!" the sign screams. Of course, I dump the red wine, and picked up a Veuvee-Cliquot. Or.. Should I go for the Moet? (white star). The Veuvee, even with the discount, was still priced at $41.99, while the Moet fetched for, would you believe this? $31.99. It was the last bottle too! What a FIND! By this time, it's already 7:30pm. Like I needed another reason to return! Normally shop at the waknut creek location and have never had any issues doing a price adjustment without having to bring everything in. I just give them my receipt and let them know that I wanted to keep everything. It got lower in price a day later and I happen to be in concord so I brought my receipt in with the one item i wanted to return and asked for an adjustment for all the items in keeping. Im in Ops and this seems like people are just lazy to type in a sku thats in front of them for 3 items. I could understand if theres a bunch of skus but its 3 and it's the same one for 2 so they could scan the i brought in twice and only need to manually type in 1... anyhow they made me get all the items just to scan one.. seems like it needs an ops refresher for Sarah when im pretty sure you could type in skus manually... go to the waknut creek one, custiner service is amazing over there. read more

On November 25 I decided to make a quick trip over the bridge from benicia to cost plus to purchase some wine for thanksgiving the next day . I have always been a fan of the wine at cost plus . I'm always able to find fun wine for bargain prices . Since I didn't get off work until 8:30 i checked their store hours before I headed over . I was glad to see that they didn't close until 10 pm. I arrived at cost plus around 9:15. I walked up to door and it wouldn't open. Their was a couple of employees inside eating or something . We tried to get their attention but no one saw us . Their door also had a "holiday store hours " sign on the door which clearly read that they closed at 10 pm on November 25. My boyfriend and I left and got q coffee at Krispy cremes before we went home . As we were leaving the parking lot I thought I saw an employee at a register . We got the guys attention and through the glass we asked him, " why they were closed at 9 when it says online and on the door that they close at 10" . He was confused so he got the manager . She was an middle aged lady with long hair with glasses . She was extremely rude ! We asked her that we were curious to why they were closed at 9 and the door and online says 10. Confused she looked at the door and rudely told us that times on the door sign was clearly a mistake that corporate had made. I told her that whosever mistake it belonged to was causing an inconvenience to customers . Especially ones who live out of town and have to pay bridge toll . She asked me if I knew what exactly I was going to get . My boyfriend told her that all we wanted to get was a few bottles of wine . She rudely told us that she will make an exception for us and give us 10 minutes to get our wine but 10 minutes was all she could give because blah blah blah . If it was up to me I wouldn't have even bought the wine there and I woulda spent my 50 bucks elsewhere. Oh and I woulda bought a few more things but I didn't have time to look at anything because I was giving only 10 minutes . She made that VERY clear . Only reason I bought the wine there was because nothing else was open and nothing would be open on thanksgiving . However, the employee that rang us up was a very nice gentlemen ! I love this store and I have to limit my visits or I'd be in terrible debt. There are so many cool things here, and many just screaming "I'd make a great gift"! I will say they've parred down the stock from the way I remember. Back in the day when I was just a mire child, they had rows and rows of glasses, bedspreads, pillows and just STUFF! I remember as a kid they had these cool balls of crepe paper that were in strips of different colors all rolled together. And as you unwrapped the ball (about the size of a baseball) when you got to the end of each strip there would be a little toy, oh I loved those balls. And all the imported candy and cookies, yum. As I got older and moved into my first apt. I found all the pretty and inexpensive glasses and dished were great for making my apt filled with funky cool shit. I've now discovered they have a very cool greeting card section, my new go to for a card. And the wines for you wino's, can't go wrong with all the choices. Oh and I almost forgot (I think this happens near the end of October) they have the cutest and coolest ornaments for Christmas. I've grown up with you Cost Plus and I'm your loyal fan. read more

I like the assortment of items that Cost Plus sells, but since when did they become 'bag your own purchase'?? This is the third time lately that I've gone to this location, where the cashier just stands there, while I bag the items that I've just bought from their store. Have they changed their customer service policy, or are they just lazy when there's no manager around? I finally interrupted the girl who rang me up, who was chatting with her coworker, to ask her to 'help me' to bag. She almost didn't even put paper in between the dishes that I bought. Unbelievable. This is my little secret for good imported wine. Just take a stroll down the wine aisle and you'll surly find a good deal that you wont normally find at the local Bev. Mo. People dont usually think of going to cost plus for wine. maybe because this places sells everything from Imported Chocolate to Chinese Lanterns to Bamboo sticks to African Face masks. When I was a kid my mother bought me a jewelry box from Cost Plus and it started my obsession. I love this location in Concord. They are always very welcoming. It is like a paradise in there for me. I walk around the store thinking, look at this, look at that, oh my god look at that. I love that they have so much culture to offer. I pick up a lot of spices there. One time I needed Cardamom Pods for a recipe. I went to Safeway and it was $12.99 for one of their bottles. The same size Bottle at Cost Plus was $2.99. I know it was not about the quality because I have used Cardamom before from an Indian market and it was just as good. They also carry my favorite incense, Nag Champa which is a temple incense. It is divine, I burn it at home all the time. There is a good selection of food from all over the world. Their chocolate selection is quite extensive. They have a lot of Asian, German and British candy. I just love this place, I could go on and on about the subject. Definitely a recommended place. read more

I first discovered of this store 10 years ago when I was living in Los Angeles and I am happy to find this location in Concord. The customer service here is always friendly and accomodating. I came here last Saturday and I was looking for Rice Tea, he went above and beyond his call of duty in trying to help me find it but to no luck they did not have any in stock and offered to call another store, he also informed me that when they usually get shipments and or to call in. We had a Secret Santa thing at work with a daily treat under $2.00 and a final gift of no more than $15.00. I had so much fun finding things here that were perfect for my recipient. I was greeted by Sue who was sweet and funny and helped me get my selected large merchandise behind the cashier so I wouldn't have to lug it around. Antoinnette think her name was. Was kickin ass running around the store as I became that annoying " changed my mind chick." Who's indecisiveness to one small table to a large table probably became annoying. But Annette was cool and super accommodating. She even whipped out some tools and sold me a floor model buffet table that she took apart ( so it could fit in my car.) I was VERY IMPRESSED. Lucky to get 2 stars! Shoppers, beware, if you buy something you need to return and you don't do so soon! I tried to return a stiff apron for a more comfortable one but lacked my receipt. I tried to make a simple exchange--items cost the same. Was refused unless I was willing to accept some much lower sales price from the past. Ridiculous! Went back a month later with the receipt. It had "expired" 3 days after the 90 day limit. Horror of horrors! Offered me the same lousy deal. Had to go through a big song & dance--disabled, rarely can get to store, etc etc. Finally, a grim faced manager arrived, and spent forever manipulating things at the register before I finally received the refund. Staggered back to the car, in serious pain from the prolonged standing. May return for their cheap glassware only. But will never buy anything again I am not absolutely sure of. Best Customer Service Ever! We do a lot of special touches / wow'ing of customers here where I work at Peoples Home Equity in Concord. Gift baskets are always loved, so I went to World Market and asked a sales woman there by the name of Charlene to help me put together a basket representing the country of India. It was to be a door prize for an annual event of ours. I must say, she was the most helpful and creative individual I've ever met. She not only knew the products, she knew where things were located, took extra time to look up some additional information on the country, then proceeded to help me create a beautiful basket. When I ran out of ideas, she had suggestions. It was an amazing experience. Because of this, I went back again, today for another gift basket also themed and although not the same sales women, the service was impeccable. I saw Charlene as I was standing in the check out line, and she remembered me and asked about the success of the basket she had helped with. Even the checkout woman, Sue was super helpful with even more suggestions. I loved it! I highly recommend this store for it's excellent customer service, product knowledge and excellent prices. I go to this place a lot, today 5/2/19 around 2:12 pm I came in to grab a couple of things on my lunch. Let's just say Jessica who was working the cash register this afternoon was rude as fuck. I'm standing in line she doesn't acknowledge if I'm ready or anything. So, I myself walk up to pay she doesn't ask how am I doing,nothing no greeting or anything. She rings my things up slamming each damn item as she rings it up. At this point I'm ready to just walk the hell out but I needed to get these items. After she rings me up she doesn't say a total doesn't offer me a bag or anything. She doesn't even greet me to have a great day... I pick up my items and tell her to have a great day sarcastically. I simply asked her to check the price of an unmarked bottle of wine, and she went beyond the normal quick answer & goodbye. She took note of the wine that we were buying and respectfully asked if we were interested to learn about a couple of other wines that she liked. When we responded yes, she lit up with a genuine excitement of that a happy person who truly likes people. She brought us 5-7 recommendations and explained why she liked them. We enjoy trying new wines and Corrine made this shopping trip to Cost Plus a fun experience. We ended up buying more than we had expected, but have no regrets. read more

Ok this business is wonderful and I love there products. But this particular visit was really frustrating because my wife and I were looking for stuff to decorate for christmas. On the showroom floor there is furniture, stands and tables, in particular a stand that we thought would be nice to put our Christmas tree on. We spoke to the manager Kelly the store manager/supervisor at concord COST PLUS WORLD MARKET about purchasing a stand. We had no idea about the policy of not being able to sell the floor model stand and that's alright but for her to have a attitude and to speak to us in a tone like we are kids is not ok. She proceeded to tell us that we can go and pick it up in a different city but we aren't selling you this stand. She didn't offer to order it online or have one sent to the store for us to pickup. By the way the closest place to get the stand was Oakland and San Francisco, and we live in Vallejo!!! It would be great to train managers to provide great customer service and we didn't receive that!!!! read more

oh how i have loved this place for so many years. they have something for every part of your place for every style. my favorite part of the store of course is the selection of gourmet foods and tasty adult beverages. i literally spent an hour going through the food aisles today. this place is way too dangerous because luckily i had a budget so i had to limit myself money wise. i ended up getting some great sauces and marinades. i know sounds boring but i'll make up for it in a big way on my next trip. the employees are always so helpful and friendly asking if i need any assistance or if i need a basket for my items. many times they even give me free cloth bags for the goods. unfortunately i must limit myself on how times i go to cost plus because i will go off in a big way. read more

This Cost Plus was very well managed. The staff was very helpful and my girlfriend and I were asked if we needed any help at least 4 times while we were there. We ended up paying for our purchases with cash because I left my Cost Plus card at home and they were very accommodating in allowing us to come back with the card and transfer the amount paid in cash to the credit account. read more

My last experience shopping here was on New Years Day first thing in the morning and I was looking for furniture. These guys had run ads that said up to 50% off furniture, so it sounded like a great bargain, which it was. We searched for the sourav dining table, 6 chairs, one Courtney queen sized bed frame, 1 Courtney night stand and the matching dresser. Thankfully, they have a laptop with all of the stores inventory listed so it was very easy to find what this location had in their hands and what we would be able to grab from their location in Antioch/Brentwood. Two of the girls were assisting us with grabbing the Sourav table that was supposedly in stock and asked us to take a look. It had been returned and had a small chip on one of the edges. Their manager had agreed to give us an additional 15% off because the box had been opened and the item had a ding in addition to the sale that the item was in. This was great for us! They also safely packed all of our breakables which we were getting that day: plates, a few glasses and salad bowls. We even had help from their sales people out to our car and made sure we had the items on hold at the Antioch branch before heading over. After working in retail in my early 20's, i must say this is exactly what you want from any store and I'm not just saying that because we went on a morning where 70% of the adult population was too tired to go shopping first thing in the morning, but also because everyone from the manager down were able to make sure we got everything we needed. I've recommended the store to any of my friends who are desperately looking to replace their Ikea furniture for something a little more grown up. read more
