We stayed at the Schooner Landing on an Interval International exchange. We had read the reviews…read moreand were leery, but decided to go anyway. The resort is in decline due to the settling of the ground where the club house and pool are located. Both were closed and off-limits. The ground to the beach is sinking so the horseshoe pit, playground and picnic are is tilted and not usable. They also have a couple junk boats on the property near the path to the beach. I am including a couple photos of the sinking ground where the club house is located. The condo itself was comfortable and ok. The carpet was in need of cleaning and a couple blinds had missing/broken vanes. The one worry I had was there is only 1 smoke detector for the entire townhouse unit!! And it looked yellow like it was 20+ years old. And despite having a gas furnace and 2 gas fireplaces, there are no carbon monoxide detectors. I guess due to lack of funds for maintenance, these items are not installed, but should be for guest safety. I feel sorry for the owners as the future of this resort is uncertain in my mind. I don't know how they can build a replacement club house, pool, etc. if the ground is still settling. We won't be retuning.

Unfortunately it appears Schooners Landing hasn't improved much since my last review. Notice I…read morestill go there? Yes, I know what to expect, and I pay for what I get. It's a deteriorating 3 star resort that needs a lot of cash infusion before deterioration accelerates with a recession. The "front" building closest to the ocean has been demolished due to beach erosion. Even the rec center, pool, and check-in area I think is going to be razed. Look at the paved parking area near the west side of the resort and you see evidence of serious erosion. A temporary trailer has been brought in for guests to check in. Feel bad for the owners, but don't feel too bad. The exterior of this resort looks like timeshare owners have simply given up. It appears no one wants to pay any maintenance money. The Pacific Ocean won. Everywhere you look, paint is peeling off the white trim, rust from the siding nails, rotted posts, deck uneven and warped. The exterior siding needs pressure washing. 2 of the 3 plastic deck chars were cracked. (see the photos) This unkept look isn't new. It's been on-going for many years. Honestly, how costly is it to pressure wash the siding a few times a year? This alone tells me something internal with Schooners isn't right. Also look at owners trying to sell their condos there. The interior of our room was very good this time, and other than a dated wet bar it's been updated. The interior is on par with any Worldmark interior. It's early 80s architecture, lots of interesting corners and angles with a loft that overlook the living room. I'm therefore updating from 2 to 3 stars. With this said, if you value the interior of your room, our last stay was very nice. But as far as on-site activities, and the overall horrible deterioration that's been on-going for many years, it appears the owners have simply given up.

To celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary, I, Wife N, our two kids, Brother N and a good friend all…read moretook off to Newport and stayed here for a weekend. Now, we've rented probably five different homes in as many years at various locations up and down the Central and Northern Oregon Coasts--Newport, Depoe Bay, Cannon Beach, Rockaway, etc. This is, bar none, the nicest vacation rental home I've yet stayed in. It is absolutely beautiful. Perched high along the shoreline, just across the highway from the ocean, it features stunning views and sunsets. The house itself is a three-level, with a garage and game room on the bottom floor, kitchen, dining area, general living area and bedroom on the middle floor, and family/sitting area, twin bedroom and master bedroom on the top floor with the two bedrooms connected by a beautiful and large master bathroom, complete with jacuzzi tub, shower, and dual sinks. The first and second floors also feature their own full bathrooms complete with showers. The house is expertly decorated with nautical themes throughout, high-end appliances, beautiful kitchen, ornate sinks---just excellent. As a home/amateur chef, I was blown away by how completely the kitchen was equipped. In most rentals, you find the owner's discards in the kitchen--that old flaking 1980's non-stick skillet, the fraying spatula, rusty can opener, etc. Not here. The veritable bevy of pots, pans, dishes, knives and a large assortment of kitchenware was fit for any reasonably adept cook. There was easily service for a party of twelve in the cupboards, and a wide variety of glasses ranging from typical to shot glasses, cocktail glasses, and several sizes of wine glasses fit for your white or red selection of choice. A closet held no less than a hundred DVD's to play (though we did find ourselves wishing for a few more titles that would be suitable for younger family members in the 4, 8, 12 range--nothing bringing a few of your own can't resolve). They also had a decent selection of card and board games for those so inclined. It's a quick 5-mile scoot south into the town of Newport, close enough that it's easy shopping, but far enough that it feels nicely rural. Some nice walking and hiking trails are a half mile off to the southeast and avid walkers will find Devil's Punch Bowl two miles to the north. Each room had its own thermostat and space heater, and we found the house comfortable round the clock. Our only (minor) complaint is the bed in the master bedroom is up on risers, presumably to give a better ocean view while lying on the bed. But short people like 5' 1" Wife N will have some degree of difficulty climbing onto it. I would recommend the owners add a small stepping stool in here to provide needed assistance. This was not enough of an issue to detract from a very solid 5* rating, well worth the money and we hope to be able to return for another stay this summer!

Vacasa (1950 NW Harbor Ave Lower Apartment "Cake by the Ocean")…read moreCheck-in: 4:00 pm Tuesday, September 3, 2024 Check-out: 10:00 am Thursday, September 5, 2024 Actual Check-out: 9:26 am We arrived in Lincoln City around 6:15 pm and had a little problem getting the door open. After placing our backpacks in the rooms, we went out to eat. Upon our return, we sat on the bed and were immediately overwhelmed by the smell of dogs. While I like dogs, I do not appreciate sleeping in the same bed as a dog, especially when the covers have not been changed. The entire place reeked of dog odor. At around 8:30 pm, I called your 1-800 number, and the recording said it would text me a number for assistance. Vacasa: Hi from Vacasa. Welcome to Cake by the Ocean. We wanted to check in and make sure our cleaning meets your expectations. How clean was the home when you arrived? Myles: These beds smell like dogs. (Time: 8:12 pm) Vacasa: Let me check what we can do here. One moment, please. (Time: 8:14 pm) Myles: Ok. (Time: 8:14 pm) One hour later, I had not heard back from your company. I texted again, asking if someone would bring fresh sheets and blankets. We started washing the covers ourselves so we could go to bed. I used an entire can of Febreze, but it did nothing to mask the smell. Vacasa: I have notified the cleaning people, and they will reach out to you. Myles: I was tired from driving from Seattle. At 10:30 pm, I texted that this company should be ashamed. I requested fresh sheets, and you asked if both rooms smelled like dogs. You replied that you had to check my ticket and told me to keep my line open. We washed the blankets with the dish soap provided. We have been coming here for 30 years and have never experienced such poor service. The refrigerator smelled, and the toilet in the main part of the house did not work. The sad part is that no one called us back. All communication was via text. Vacasa: I'm really sorry to hear that the beds were not clean upon your arrival. That's certainly not the experience we want for our guests. (Time: 10:32 pm) Vacasa: Our local staff has been notified. Rest assured; we will get back to you once we receive an update. (Time: 10:33 pm) I never heard from anyone the next day. While we were at the water all day, we received a message at 12:31 pm from a male voice saying, "They did not say what you really needed, but call me if you need something." We were leaving the next morning. We were gone all day, returned to drop off some things, and then went out for dinner. The service was poor. When we woke up, the dog smell was even stronger, and the toilet was still not working. I took a picture of it. Upon checking out, I received two questionnaires asking about our stay. I mentioned the poor service, and today is September 9, 2024, and I have not heard a word from your company. We checked into a hotel in Portland and had to wash all our clothes and shower to get the stench of dog off our bodies and clothes. I love dogs, but I do not want to smell like them or sleep in the same bed they have slept in. The place was cute and in a nice location, but the smell was too strong, and I do not even have a strong sense of smell.

Right above the beach!…read more This place is a group of small cabins on the cliff above the beach. My daughter and I stayed in number 7 which is the two room cabin. Maybe the biggest here. Looking out the living room window is the OCEAN. The only downside of this is place is there are no bedroom doors. There is only one heater/gas stove the back rooms get cold. But this is late November so snuggle up with some warm blankets. It's so quite here you her the refrigerator making dying cat noises. You also here all the other noises in the cabin. In the summer time it must be great here. I'm thinking you can pop open a window or two and let the ocean air and crashing waves sounds in. Nye beach is a really cool part of town with shops and restaurants within walking distance. You can stay here for a whole week and not eat at the place twice.

This place was probably the worst travel experience we have ever had. Please keep in mind this…read morereview is for Cottage #6 - The Lighthouse Lookout Cottage. The following items comprise the negatives regarding Cottage #6: 1) Online advertisement was very misleading; the ad stated there was a balcony. There were not even any chairs or any place to even sit on the outside lawn. 2) There was no stove/oven. The ad said there was a "full" kitchen so we planned to cook a few nights. We couldn't do that without a stove/oven so we threw out all the fresh fish we had bought. What a waste! 3) The corkscrew in the cottage had an old cork in it and it was covered in hair. Why would I open my wine with that? Ugh! We went out and bought another one at Walgreens. 4) No bureau in a very tiny bedroom - left all clothes in a suitcase. 5) You have to pay to access the beach or nearby firepit ($15/day) because the cheap owner of this cottage will not pay for it. But, he'll gladly take over $400/night for this horrible shack. We paid almost $1700 for four nights over Labor Day weekend and we regretted it the moment we booked it. It was very overpriced for what we got even over a holiday. Factor in you have to eat out every night. 6) Not even an extra roll of toilet paper in the bathroom. No sheets, blankets, or pillows for the sofa bed. Old and damaged end tables in the bedroom. 7) The mattress in the bedroom was old and very uncomfortable. We both had a hard time sleeping and woke up every day with backaches. 8) One of the worse things not revealed in the ad is that there is another cottage directly above you. The first guests smoked and the smoke came down to our cottage. Plus the second guests arrived at 1:30 am waking us up with all of their noise and watch out if they have kids. The kids will run back and forth all day and there's not much you can do about it other than leave the cottage. The kids also peer right into your windows trying to look inside. 9) An oceanfront view was not worth four nights of terrible discomfort at $1700. We will never recommend this cottage (#6 Lighthouse Lookout Cottage). As I said earlier, it was the worst travel experience we have ever had. Do NOT rent this cottage for all of the reasons I mentioned. Also, don't walk barefoot in here - your feet will be black. The carpets and floors were filthy. 10) Go to The Landing at Newport. The Landing is 1000x better than Nye Beach Condos and Cottages. Just look it up and see all of the true amenities you can have. We wanted to go there but they were sold out. We settled on Cottage #6 and it was a big mistake we will not soon forget.
