WorldMark Schooner Landing - This is what makes it worth putting up with all the problems. - Hotels Near Me - Newport, Oregon

This property is an ABSOLUTE wreck!!! I am honestly surprised that you are allowed to continue renting these units. 1) water damage, soft Sheetrock and peeling paint throughout the INSIDE ceilings And walls of both the first and second floors. It is very clear there has been significant water intrusion for years and never properly repaired. Painting over wet Sheetrock doesn't fix the fact that water is getting inside the unit from outside. This is common sense. 2) back door does not close(top left 1/3 allows sunlight and wind to intrude because it is not possible to close the door enough to seal against the weatherstripping) because the entire two story structure has significantly settled unevenly, and was never properly repaired, this is clearly a security concern. The living room is a Wind tunnel between bottom of the front door which has a huge gap at the thresh hold and the back door. 3) floor on first level has so many soft spots where the sub floor is clearly rotted, I am guessing from water damage, I am genuinely concerned that I am going to fall through. 4) power strips are "Daisy chained" together in almost every room constituting a fire code violation. 5) carpets are very stained and dirty, food stuck to arms of furniture in living room. Spider webs accumulated at corners of windows and between side tables and walls in master bedroom. The overall cleanliness of the unit is unacceptable. 6) Couch is completely broken down and falling apart and should be thrown away. I brushed my tailbone sitting down on it. Dining chairs are falling apart and are unsafe to sit on. Television in living room is about ready to fall completely off of its pedestal. 7) mold in the downstairs shower poop below toilet between vanity. 8) hvac vent in downstairs bathroom furry with rust. 9) hvac filter is so dirty and clogged the system is beginning to eat it. 10) the girl at the front desk was less than interested and less than helpful when we asked about the best place to see the local fireworks show; "the fireworks are at the bay. That's where you have to go". Clearly she believed me to be a simpleton, or perhaps it's just her. 11) our first morning here the irrigation sprinklers outside came on FOUR different times! At 5 am, 6 am, 7 am AND 8 am. The sprinklers around the entire property are pointed directly at the housing units. The rain bird sprinkler at the front of the unit sounds like someone is pounding one the door! When I opened the front door, I was promptly soaking wet. The sprinklers at the rear yard completely spray the unit, the deck is completely drenched and water got into all of the open windows. 12)the "bbq" that we are supposed to share with four other units is a rusty dilapidated unusable safety hazard. It is literally falling apart and not even horizontal anymore. 13)broken cupboard doors in kitchen 14) jetted tub had not been cleaned from at least one previous tenant, it was incredibly gross. We cleaned the damn thing ourselves. It is so loud when turned on that it is not worth using. 15)electrical wires that have been cut and left bare are sticking up out of the ground along the pathways out side. 16)pathway lights are not working at night at the front of this set of units make the front door approach very dark and unsafe after sundown. 17) rain gutters are completely full of dirt, growing a healthy crop of 8" tall weeds and beginning to fall away from the facia. Were just One of these gutters full of dirt to fall to the ground and hit someone, it would most certainly cause serious injury and/or death. 18)fire extinguishers throughout the grounds have no signage and are completely hidden behind overgrown foliage. This is the second fire code violation. 19) the refrigerator is pulled out several feet from the back wall, placing the appliance inconveniently near the center of the kitchen floor. 20) vehicles are allowed to be parked in front of and blocking fire hydrants(3rd fire code violation). 21) Abandoned boat and trailer(last registered in 2019) is occupying three parking spaces. 22) vinyl siding is falling off of the units and is laying on the ground where it fell, property wide. We will never come back here. The condition of this property is abundant evidence that your guests comfort and safety are of little consequence to you. This level disrepair is not something that "just happened" or has "fallen through the cracks", this is the result of years of intentional decisions to ignore maintenance and safety problems in order to increase profits. You have chosen profits over people. This is the most blatant and egregious example of criminally irresponsible stewardship of Club resources that I have ever witnessed. We will be sure to share with everyone we know what an absolute disaster this place is and that it is VERY clearly the direct result of intentional poor maintenance and very bad management. read more

The place is in average condition. Excellent location. No laundry Pool and hot tub is permanently gone. Beach is a short walk. Town and harbor , many stores , light houses, beaches are within 3 miles. Fireplace and jacuzzi tub was awesome. read more

I decided to come here with my kids (2 and 5) for some quality mom time away. I've been a Worldmark owner since 2000, so I'm very familiar with the other regional resorts. This was our first visit to Schooner Landing, which I wasn't aware isn't actually a full Worldmark property. Nevertheless, we found a lot of the same conveniences we've grown accustomed to, with a few exceptions, but not major ones. A few things of note if you're used to other Worldmark resorts: The unit we stayed in didn't have a washer/dryer, but there are coin operated laundry machines on site, and soap is provided at the front desk. I would have for sure done laundry had it be more convenient, but as it was, I ended up taking home everything, which was I guess mildly annoying. The unit we stayed in didn't have a hotel security latch lock, which with a 2 year old, is pretty essential, given that most 2 year olds are wanna be escape artists. I actually secured the door at night with 2 dining chairs, which was effective, if not a little overkill. The decor is definitely dated, compared to most of the other Worldmarks. It seems there are also some structural issues with the clubhouse due to land shifting, but it didn't affect our stay at all. I know they were talking about major repairs planned, so make sure you check on the timing of this before you book! Pros: The pool and hot tub are TOASTY warm, which for winter travelers and small kiddos, is pretty ideal. The beach is super walk-able, with a nicely maintained path on the way down, as well as a fire pit, large kids play area (including submerged boats converted to sand boxes?, and gorgeous views. The 1 bedroom condo is HUGE. I feel like it's way more space than most Worldmark properties, and I find them generally quite comfortable. All the rooms (except the kitchen) are quite big, and a family of 4 would feel very spread out here, if they wanted to be. I didn't sleep on the sofa bed, so I can't vouch for its comfort. The king bed is comfy though. Bonus for the huge jetted tub also. My kids were obsessed. The staff were super friendly, and helpful, which sadly, isn't always my experience at actual Worldmark owned properties. I had 100% enjoyable interactions with everyone at this resort. For a pretty dated property, everything was exceptionally clean. I notice the small things, and I honestly couldn't point out anything here that needed to be addressed. Impressive. We didn't find many shops and such in town to be very desirable, but did visit the aquarium and quite enjoyed it. We spent 80% of our time at the resort area, and would definitely consider this getaway again in the future. :) read more

A literal victim of the old adage about "time and tide wait for no man," Schooner Landing has fallen victim to both. As an early time share owner, I recall when it was new, blue and it sparkled. 30 years later, it's fallen victim to erosion. Walking into the club house you note it's out of kilter. The floor is not flat and the rooms are not squared. I was told that the gym/exercise room was removed to save the club house building. A week's timeshare that once sold for for $5,000 to $7,500, now goes for a little as a dollar. Yet, it was known early on that the adjacent property to the south that was intended as a housing community, had to stop construction as their roads were cracking and following apart. Last week we revisited Schooner Landing. The upside is they offered hot cookies at check-in, and a $3 all you can eat pancake feast the next morning. Our room was spacious, impeccably clean and came with two fireplaces and two big TV's. They used to include two thick terry cloth bath robes, but none were to be found. We liked our room. The exterior of the building needs care. Streams of rust from nails dribble down the sides of buildings, paint has chipped away from the stairs and light standards. Work was being on the worn handrails. I wish them well, but feel their future may be difficult. read more

The place is clean and on the beach. The internet has always been an issue so if you need fast internet, this is not the place for you. The weekend staff is at best very unfriendly but I have had good results during the week. I would recommend this resort. read more

I'll not be staying here again. Nothing big just a couple of little things. Arrogant/argumentative staff. Staff member interrupts you before you've had a chance to finish a sentence. Same staff member refused to provide replacement batteries for TV remote control. The 200 building is very close to the highway and had a week of sleepless nights. With so many good resorts out there, I'll give them my business in the future. read more

This place goes above and beyond. Rooms are well furnished and stocked with blankets, towels, coffee, dishes and utensils. Anything you need in your room, they have it. You go to the office, they have free hot coffee for you, a game room, a pool, sauna, and hot tub. The view of the ocean is amazing. The in-room fireplaces are so very toasty and warm. The staff are really friendly and courteous. One day a week they have free cookies, and they make them crunchy just how I like them! I was so bewildered by how satisfied I am with this place, I just had to review it. I'm sitting on a mattress in a room there right now, and it is memory foam! They have a computer in the office with a printer(free prints). It's just so much more than someone could reasonably ask for. Anyone who complains about this place is just plain snooty! read more

Love this resort! Nice furnished units with a warm wonderful pool, billard table, deck with BBQ, plus it is on the ocean, and close to Yaquina lighthouse with tidepools. Saw whales from the resort and at several other locations. Many fabulous beaches also close. Staff were friendly read more

My family LOVES Schooner Landing! My husband's parents bought into the time share in the 80's & so he's been coming here since he was a kid. Now they've passed it on to us & we enjoy spending at least a week a year here. The units are clean & comfy & have pretty much all the comforts of home & more. Memory foam beds, deep jacuzzi tubs, fireplaces, a full kitchen, telly with dvd player & beautiful views. The clubhouse has a swimming pool, hot tub, sauna, game room with a pool table/foosball. It also has a giant telly where they often play movies. The beach below Schooner's is awesome for tide pooling when the tide is out. It also has an awesome view of Yaquina Head lighthouse. The staff at SL is great too! Morgan has worked the front desk for years. He is friendly, welcoming & knowledgeable about Newport & the surrounding areas. The maintenance & housekeeping crew do a good job. I've seen some of them here for years. Like I said before, we love it here. It's a great place to relax & de-stress. read more

The refrigerator didn't work so I had to throw away 30$ worth of food, the tv in the room my kids had didn't work, talked to a couple I met in the pool who said the hot tub jets haven't worked in two years! When I checked out and told the receptionist about the refrigerator and my having to throw out our groceries she barely acknowledged my complaint no apology or anything. For what I paid for the room I expected better. read more

I stayed here last fall and am returning this year. The rooms were comfortable, clean, well-stocked and had a great ambiance. The gas fire place added a romantic touch and the kitchen and bathroom contained nearly everything you could need. The jacuzzi tub was a nice touch. We are a family of four. It was our first time going to schooner landing and it was all new. We got there around 9:30pm at night august 3rd. We checked into our room it was pretty dated but decent. We only had one room for two people and the other room was supposed to come with a sofa bed. When we tried to set up the sofa bed we found a note saying the sofa bed had been broken that they had a air mattress instead. My family and me were going to stay there for a whole week and I know my kids weren't gonna sleep comfortably so I went to the office to ask why didn't they let us know in advance that the sofa bed was broken when we were booking the place ? They said on their description that it came with a sofa bed not an air mattress .. The lady was super nice and told us to hold on for a night because no managers were in until the next morning. I slept on the sofa bed and in the middle of the night I woke up to the bed going flat. The next morning we went to the office to discuss the issue and the manager Jeff started to scream and accuse us of popping the bed to get another room I was so surprised by his attitude he wouldn't let us finish and started to accuse us of other things and told us if we didn't like it to leave and to know that he was the manager.. I was so disappointed in the way I was treated by this place and I immediately called my agency told them what had happened and got relocated to an even better resort than that Crappy old place.. I also noticed when I was packing up and leaving how he was screaming at some of his employees. I personally felt bad and don't know how manager with that kind of attitude is running a place like that.. I hope my experience prevents anyone from experiencing what I did from that place by the looks of it I'm not the only one who has encountered this kind of attitude from the manager. read more

Hi, My name is Yeung. Me and my family accidentally checked in early on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011, at around 3:30 pm. However Arturo was able to help get our unit early anyways. We checked in to the unit 409. We were very grateful for his assistance. On Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011, I received a phone call from the manager Jeff asking me to allow one of his maintenance members and internet technician to come to the unit to do some internet repair work. He told me that the internet had been an issue already for sometime. I asked Jeff how long would it take to complete the repair. His response was he has the right to come in to the unit even though if the unit was being occupied by a guest at the time. I didn't know why he would answer that way but it didn't bother me that much that day. The repair took about an hour and it wasn't successful even though it took them several trips back and forth in and out of the unit. The following day Thursday, Dec.29, 2011, he gave me a call again asking me to allow him to come in to do the internet repair. I said ok. When he was inside the unit walking back and forth in and out of the unit I asked him "is this going to be the last time that you will be coming into the unit again"? I also asked, "Can you do the repair when we have completed our stay"? His response was again that he has the right to do maintenance work regardless whether the unit is occupied by a guest or not. I told him if the maintenance was in regards to plumbing, electrical, or heating, I would understand. But if it is about internet, then the work is bothering me and my whole family. Also, he said that if i was a WorldMark owner, i had to go call WorldMark myself because of HIS problems with dealing with me. (I actually am a WorldMark Owner myself) He yelled at me and slammed the door in front of my son while I was eating brunch. I locked the door without letting him into the unit. He left a message in the unit's voice mail box and told me that he can relocate us to a different unit and regardless whether I open the door or not, he will come in to do the repair. Yes, were relocated to unit 502, but why didn't he relocate us the day before and this situation would never have happened. I don't understand why this kind of unprofessional behavior even exists in Schooner Landing and after all, he IS the MANAGER. read more

Old, very dated furniture, no real access to the beach. Facility is stuck in the 80s! Exterior of units is in very poor condition. If mauve is your color this is your place. The units are large and have all the necessary stuff but it is all cheap. The shower is in a large jacuzzi which is very difficult to get in and out off and the shower head is for midgets! The decks and club house are rundown and the play areas are in bad shape. The only good thing about this place is its proximity to RT 101 so you can get away. We traded Hilton grand vacation points for this place -- not a fair trade. If you have any other choice do not stay here. read more

We booked our week stay through Global Discoveries. SL is a new property for Global so we were excited to try it out. We read many reviews that were less than positive. I have to say that we are pleasantly surprised. Yes, the units are a tad outdated but who cares. A little mauve won't kill anyone. Freshly painted and obviously kept in good shape. We have stayed many places on the coast and so far this will be one of our favorites. The units are well appointed. Someone previously complained about no laundry. There is laundry available and they provide soap and dryer sheets, who does that? We were provided with a Welcome booklet upon check in that contained about everything one would want to know. Definitely an entertaining read! There is even a small section touching on the hide a bed/inflatable mattress thing. Kudos to Morgan at the front desk that is not only entertaining but gets the whole importance of customer service with a smile. Did I mention that they have jacuzzi tubs and memory foam mattresses? read more

We stayed at Schooners Landing in Newport this weekend and were greatly disappointed. There were only two redeeming qualities there. The beds were amazing! They are memory foam and very comfortable. My husband says he got the best nights sleep he had gotten in a long time. The other is the view. We had ocean front views and they were perfect. Now, for the failing qualities: 1. We seriously felt like we were in PeeWee's Fun House! The buildings are moving and sloping. This is causing the rooms to be uneven and tilted. We could see all of the patches in the ceiling covering the cracks. Our friend's shower (we were in a 2 bedroom condo) actually was slanted and their door didn't even stay closed! My husband fell down the stairs because they were crooked. 2. Our heat barely worked! We had the heater set to 85 and the highest it ever got was 65! We were bundled in sweats, sweatshirts, and blankets all evening! The fireplace didn't help at all. 3. Our other friends in a different condo had their water heater break. When they complained to the front desk, they were told "well you could always come and take a shower in our office"! They had to shower in our room and beg to be moved when they couldn't fix it while we were gone. 4. The rooms had a very musky smell. It was not a pleasant smell. My husband stayed there two years ago in another unit and loved it. He was excited when we decided to stay there again. Sadly, as my first time, I was not as impressed. We will not be staying there again. As a WorldMark property, I was very disappointed. My parents are share holders and were shocked and will not be trying this property, either. As my first experience in a WorldMark property, I am not planning on buying shares there anytime soon. read more
