Last week was my very first time coming here. A friend had brought WFDs to work and I was really impressed with the donuts. So I went and took some home to my family in SF. THEY LOVED THEM!!!! The gentleman who waited on me gave outstanding service. The whole staff really took care of the long line of 4AMers that were there before me. The wait wasn't long at all. Good service. Good donuts. Heard many great things about WFD, and what's cool is they can make giant donuts with advance notice. I'd love to have one for my birthday . I got there late afternoon and they ran out of my go-tos at a donut shop - raised glazed! Instead, I tried a glazed twist, cake donut, glazed old fashion, and glazed donut holes in my donut haul. I then realized as I was sampling everything, the woman behind the counter gave me cream puffs instead of donut holes! Kind of disappointed. Out of everything I tried, I liked the glazed twist. Our first experience eating World's Fare donuts was actually about 6 months ago when we were lined up at 4am for the Jollibee grand opening not too far away from this location. Somebody in line was nice enough to pick up a few boxes of glazed donuts from here and offer them to anybody else in line. I tried them out, and I swear, it was the best glazed donut I'd ever had. I had to ask where they came from, and of course he said World's Fare. Since then, I've done a little research and read about how World's Fare was considered the best in the Bay Area. Since then, I'd been intending to pay an actual visit to this place. We came in a bit late for a donut spot, arriving in the early afternoon. We were immediately helped by Deonne(I made sure to ask how to spell it :P), who was extremely nice and represented World's Fare about as well as he could have. He was very informed and happy to answer any of the many questions we had, made us feel welcome coming in, and ultimately gave us some great recommendations on donuts that we went with. Unprofessional experience over a chocolate donut filled with dry white whipping cream when I asked for custard. The employee told me the baker mixed up the batch of custard that morning. I don't think the floor has been mopped in years. The person who rings you up will also touch your donuts and put them in the box or bag for you. This time, I arrived around 8:30a on a Sunday, and the place was buzzing. Enter on the side facing A Street and exit through the door facing Hesperian. Patrons patiently lined up 6-feet apart. The line moved pretty quickly - the staff behind the counter efficiently packaged up orders while one person worked the register. The jelly donuts and apple fritters are HUGE! My favorite is the French cruller - light, not too sweet and delicious. They also offer sandwiches, shakes, coffees, teas, and boba. They have some booths available if you want to sit and eat. Every other booth was closed to allow for social distancing, and the doors were open for air circulation. Note, there is a $5 minimum to use a credit/debit card. World's Fare is an unassuming little donut shop with friendly staff and easy parking, located in the plaza right across the street from Island Pacific and Target on Hesperian. I sat in the car on a conference call one morning waiting to go in to try their donuts and saw a steady of stream of people going into this shop. Besides the usual popular flavors, there are also some special ones like Buttermilk, Blueberry and Taro (or Ube). Taro is a cake donut and sweetened just right with glaze on the outside. Definitely a unique flavor you can't get anywhere else! I plan to get a birthday donut here later this year for my son who doesn't like traditional cakes.
