I was craving for some mochi donut and having seen this location being opened for some time I wanted to come and check it out. When the opportunity presented itself, I came by today for the first time. The decor was mediocre but I was here for a take out order so my review will be strictly on the taste of the mochi donut itself. Mochi donut (Macha & Strawberry flavored) - 5 out of 5 They were fluffy and chewy in texture. Compared to your regular donut, it's just a different style of donut altogether. There is not actual mochi in the donut itself just a mental note. The sweetness wasn't overpowering which I liked and they're extremely fresh. Compared to the ones they offer in Osaka Marketplace, this one blows them out of the park. For any type of donuts, I general look for two things: 1. Are they fresh (if they aren't, you can generally tell from the dough being tougher if no other additives are placed in the dough) 2. The sugar toppings (If they place a heavier emphasis on sugar, I usually stay away since I'm more focused on the flavor instead) Service - 3 out of 5 The lady over the counter was a bit slow. She was on the phone when I came in and it took her about 10 minutes to finish her conversation before she was able to get to us. I think it was a phone order? It looked like she's the only person taking orders since the other workers saw us but kept on doing whatever they were doing. If you don't mind waiting a little like myself, it's a definite must try if you enjoy a chewier textured type of dough in your donuts or would just like to give a new type of donut a try. I don't usually judge too hard on the service staff in places like these since they're mostly mom and pop owned. Understand that when we come, they're just trying to do their best with what they've got is all we can ask for. Ultimately, the food takes home the win and Mochinut here did exactly that for me. They seemed to be Vietnamese owned since they sell other Vietnamese items here as well so keep that in mind. I'll definitely keep this place in mind when I'm feeling like a mochi donut again in the future! read more

I ordered the BBQ Shrimp Banh Mi on the kiosk and it was decent as for as banh mis go. I loved how fluffy and soft the bread is, though I didn't taste any BBQ flavor so that felt a bit misleading. It has more of a simple, sweet buttery flavor. This place has so many yummy snack and drink options, so I got a box of banana milk and my partner got a grape fanta. They also have korean corn dogs, rice bowls, and mochi donuts (of course). I was surprised how spacious the inside was - there are plenty of tables to sit and hangout. This spot is located on Amador St in Hayward really close to the 880 highway, & Jackson St exit. It's directly across the street from the Safeway shopping center on Jackson right off the exit. They had about 11 different flavor options to choose from today. Flavor choices were chocolate, strawberry, matcha, cookies n cream, fruit pebbles, pandan/coconut, churro, Funnel cake. A really disappointing experience, especially considering how much I've enjoyed this place in the past. I usually receive decent service here and genuinely enjoy their food -- the Banh Mis are great, and the Korean corn dogs are solid. But what happened today was incredibly frustrating and upsetting. I placed an online order around 4 PM for a 6:30 PM pickup. When we arrived, not only was our order not packed or ready, but we were also told they had already run out of mochi donuts -- the main reason we placed the order in the first place. What's worse is that no one contacted us to let us know they were out. We were planning to bring the donuts to a family party, and if we had known earlier, we could have made other arrangements. Instead, we were told, somewhat dismissively, that we'd be refunded. There was no real apology or sympathy -- just a shrug and a "sorry." It really felt like they didn't care at all about the inconvenience or that they dropped the ball. This whole situation could have been avoided with a simple phone call or update. It's frustrating because the food *is* good -- but good food isn't enough when customer service falls short like this. It's been a while since I went to Mochinut, which is probably around two years ago. Also keep in mind that it collaborates with another joint called LACA. I haven't tried Mochinut in this location, but probably tried LACA. The atmosphere is ok, not really fascinating though. However, the rice dogs tastes good though. Unfortunately, they don't sell boba just like most locations like the one in San Mateo, but heard that they recently closed. You may want to go to other Mochinut locations if you want boba from it. The service is ok, but would have been better if they have better approaches on interacting with customers. I get that they're busy, but being a little more nice would have been more appreciative rather than having a low tone. read more

My kids have been wanting to try Korean dogs. I finally got to take them and check it out. I didn't even realized we had a spot in Hayward. This spot used to be Lee's Sandwiches. Its now LaCa Bakery/Mochidonut. Its pricey in my opinion but you should try it once. I did like how their Korean dogs were more plump and bigger compare to another competitor I went to. We did come about an hour before closing so the Mochidonuts was the last batch and were stale. I feel like their mochi donuts weren't very good. I would pass or head to another spot. Ordered half a dozen at $17.00. I ordered what was left which was pandan coconut, black sesame, red velvet, cinnamon, and cafe sua da (Vietnamese coffee). They all had no flavor of what it was labeled as. The Vietnamese coffee one was close but the biscoff biscuit was stale. 5/5 Potato dog was legit! Big beef hotdog and the potato cubes were fresh and hot. Not greasy at all but it is bland so I wish they would serve it with a sauce or offer ketchup or mustard. 4/5 Hot Cheeto cheese was fresh and we got that cheese pull fosho but you have to eat it quick or it hardens and doesn't taste good. It also kept slipping off the stick so at the end we just had to pick at it or eat it with a fork. You can also order it as half cheese half dog if you please. Its definitely a fun snack to enjoy but is filling. The brown sugar boba didn't look like the picture on the site. It was way too sweet and I wish they did sugar levels and maybe they do but they didn't ask. Not much parking since its shared with Lee's laundromat. On ig we saw my daughter & I free dog. We signed up the dm us right away. December 31.2022 last day for free dog. Pouring down rain. I hate driving in the rain. But, we had a taste for them. Buy one get one free. I choose hot dog/cheese potatoes on the out side. Very warm & and delicious. Customer service was very good. When the young lady was cleaning. Very clean restaurant by the way. The other lady said take the order. I thought that was very nice. Instead of us just standing around. My daughter had the hot Cheetos half/half. She loved it. Such a little gem here in Hayward, and becoming one of my go-to spots! When this place opened, I only viewed it as a mochi donut spot (considering the name). I was wrong! They have so much more than that including boba, banh mis, and KOREAN CORDOGS! Whaaat a Korean corndog place closeby to my house? sign me up! The banh mis are sooo good. The bread they use has great texture, its crispy and soft at the same time. The banh mis are a perfect size as well. I've tried the chicken and tofu lemongrass and both are SO good. This place has everything! Sweet, salty, savory! We got their Korean hot dogs (Mozarella hot dog, and Potato mozarella). And the roast pork viet sandwich and pork belly viet sandwich. All of these were soooo yummy. The hot dogs were super cheesy and probably the best Korean hot dogs I've ever had. The potato one hit the spot forsure! The sandwiches were also very tasty and they add more sauce than other places usually do but I personally loved and preferred it. The pork belly sandwich was my favorite. Believe it or not, this was my first time trying a Korean corn dog! We ended up trying the half and half cereal and the potato original. I must say that I was thoroughly impressed! I actually thought that I would like the potato original more because I love potatoes, but it just didn't have what it took to captivate me. It was definitely on the savory side, but I just didn't feel like it went that great with a corndog. perhaps a sauce or even ketchup would have helped? I actually would never have tried the cereal corn dog on my own, but my mom really wanted to try it into my amazement, it was absolutely amazing! I think you really have to try it with the half-and-half at least to get a sense of the mozzarella thing. The mozzarella was super ooey gooey cheesy and stringy, because it was freshly made. Yum! But the real star was the surprisingly the cereal! I don't even like cereal, but it truly made the difference. It added a wonderful crispy texture to the soft battered corndog and a perfect contrasting sweetness to the saltier hotdog below! It almost tasted like there was some kind of honey marinade on the cereal. It kind of reminded me of the Chex mix furikaki cereal even though it was cornflakes. It was so good that I couldn't stop thinking about this corn dog. It was a bit on the pricey side, and beware that there seems to be ongoing price increases over short periods of time as far as I can tell on yelp. Plus, unfortunately, the prices that were posted on the menu were all incorrect and we were mischarged. The employee was nice about it but said she couldn't honor the price and make changes to the price to reflect what the menu said, which was disappointing and misleading. Oh the mochi donuts are soo good here! Also a La Ca Bakery as others have stated. I would love to try the Korean hot dogs or banh mi sometime. I've had their Vietnamese iced coffee which was good. Their boba is also very good--perfect balance of chew and softness. Of the mochi donuts, my favorites so far are black sesame and cheesecake. I can't wait to try more flavors! The Nutella and milk tea were ok. Passion fruit was ok too. It's dangerous that they are so close to my school (CSU East Bay) that it's tempting to come by a lot. The pon de ring shape of the mochi donuts are perfect for sharing. You can come with a group of friends and buy a bunch of flavors and have a bit of each one. I highly recommend ordering mochi donuts early in the morning when it's freshly cooked. The donuts are softer, fluffier and there are more favor options. The first time I went around 4pm and the donuts were dense, chewy and there wasn't as many choices to pick from. My favorite flavor is the nutella and pebbles cereal. YUM. Was visiting a friend in the east bay and wanted to bring mochi donuts over to her and her fam. The store was easy access from the freeway so it was a breeze to stop by and pick up donuts. The shop is cute and there are vietnamese dishes that you can also order which didn't look too bad. There were the typical flavors of mochi donuts so I got a few of each to total a dozen. The texture of the donut was great but the flavors of the frosting didn't have much flavor but tasted more like a sugar coating. This review has been long overdue. It was for our visit on 10/02/2021, when we came to try their Korean corndogs for the first time. Hubby and I have been coming to La Ca Bakery (which is shared with Mochinut) to get their Vietnamese coffee. We have had Mochinut's mochi donuts and were waiting for the Korean corndogs to finally start to sell. I saw on Yelp that they finally got a page for review and saw that the corndogs had started! I asked Hubby if we could go when he comes up and we did! We tried their Whole Mozzarella, Potato Mozzarella, Cheddar Cheese, and the Cheetos Sausage. We are saving the other 4 flavors to try next time. They are so delicious! I love how crunchy they were. They all have their own tastes, but for us, the ones with just the mozzarella in it needed like a sauce to go with it. I've always wanted to try these special corn dogs I've seen trending on the gram and lucky we got to try these out now. So actually the Mochinut is sold inside and apart of the Laca store. I ordered three mochi nuts: one strawberry, one matcha, one raspberry funnel cake Mochinut. SOOO cute that some of the mochi donuts came topped with a cute pocky stick! For the corn dogs I ordered five: three half mozzarellas, one Cheeto mozzarella, and one potato mozzarella. The corn dogs are super yummy and crunchy. The mozzarella is super stretchy and cheesy. I crave this place. It truly haunts my dreams... definitely not the healthiest place but such a treat! I'm obsessed with their hot Cheetos mozzarella corn dog. I've tried their half mozzarella hot dog and mozzarella potato which are both good and super crispy but the Cheetos is the most flavorful Their mochi donuts are tasty too. Always in search of a good donut, I found myself here at Mochinut. It's a former Lee's Sandwiches, sharing space with LaCa Bakery so with 2 sets of menus, there's probably something for everyone here! I got 3 mochi donuts ($9) and chose nutella, cookies and cream, and the churro. All 3 were great and I appreciated that the staff said they don't use peanuts so that my kid would be able to enjoy them! Finally got to try mochi donuts from a mochi-specializing spot! Honestly, I think they definitely look more impressive than they taste. Although I tried several different flavors, all of them seemed to taste similar, with only slight bits of flavors shining through. Texture-wise these donuts are great. Airy and soft with a bit of chew. If I had to recommend a flavor I'd say get the fruity pebbles! The korean corn dogs are tasty. Got a great cheese pull and a delicious salty crunch on the outside.
