I've often wondered about the huge income disparity between large chains and small mom&pop businesses. It's not a happy thought. Pixie's has delicious donuts and the coffee, while probably not roasted from Nicaraguan beans, actually suffices. The place is small but clean, they have an adequate variety of donuts and most importantly, they taste really good! I had the chocolate glazed one and it was the right amount of soft. Donuts here are so delicious! I came by here one day to get some coffee. This place is cash only but he let me pay with my card for a minimum purchase, so I decided to try their donuts. I was skeptical as it was already 3pm and at most donut places the donuts are pretty dry by then. To my surprise the donut was very soft inside and warm. I bought a cinnamon roll for my boyfriend along with 5 donuts, but with each donut being $1 each (as stated on the menu), I find it hard to believe that the cinnamon roll is $4. The lady at the counter was so sweet (must be all the donuts) and gave me some extras! They weren't the most astonishingly tasty donuts but they were fresh and big and everyone seemed to like them. My wife and I bought 9 donuts here today (neither of us kept track while we were selecting them- I thought for sure that we had reached a dozen). We weren't given a receipt, but our total was $8.10. That translates to $.90 a donut (regular ones were $.85 each last year). Came here on a whim after passing by, I will say it's not in the most appealing part of the shopping center but it is definitely a hidden gem! There was a very wide variety of donuts to choose from, some I've never even seen before and also some classics. Ranging from sugar and glazed to chocolate donut with chocolate glaze and peanuts. There were also a bunch of twists and even some croissants type breads that were layered with toppings. For drinks they also have two big fridges to the side which have a wide variety of juices and such and I saw on the menu they have a wide range of coffee as well. The place is pretty spacious and looks very clean. There's lots of tables and the case which holds the donuts is spacious and clean as well! The lady who helped us was the sweetest. When we picked out some donuts she let us in on which were popular and answered any questions I had happily. Overall an amazing and fair price for my donuts! The chocolate donut with chocolate glaze was dense but delicious! I also tried a donut that had a cinnamon type crumble drizzled over it and it was incredible! What can I say? It's a mom & pop donut shop! Love going to this place cause I literally live right there and when I want a quick & sugary breakfast, I usually go here. In a few words: They Aight. Not better however, than just 'Aight'. In the southern most part of Hayward, I do not travel in this neighborhood very often in the early morning. As everyone knows, you have to get the best of a particular donut shop's wares before 8 am when they are (supposedly) at their freshest. I did so, just to make sure I was getting their very best effort. I sampled their Glazed French Cruller, Straight Glazed, and the Sugar raised. The Sugar was the best of the three. The other two were only sub-par, at the very best. The ladies who tend to counter are eager to assist, smiling and courteous. The shop can be busy early in the morning. If I had the choice of bringing a Peanut Butter & Jelly sando with me from home or going to Pixie to sample one of their creations, that might be a tough choice. Pixie Donuts is easily found off of 92 and 880 just before the San Mateo Bridge. There is plenty of parking in the shopping center's parking lot that is shared by varies other stores. I came by early around 5am and majority of their racks were full with a good selection of typical donuts (Raised, Cake, Donut Holes, and Old Fashion) you find at most other shops. I got a dozen donut holes ($1.99 per dozen). The donut holes were average size and had just enough glaze to cover. The donut holes were fresh, still warm and very soft. The donut holes were a little more on the greasy/oily side compared to other shops. This donut shop seemed like any average donut shop in the area. Nothing really separating themselves apart from the rest. The donut holes were good so I will come back and try their other donuts. Cash only so plan ahead or if you have Wells Fargo there is an ATM very close to the shop. read more
