Although we were unable to book a tour (it was booked solid so plan ahead) We did get a reservation for lunch, which was utterly amazing! Upon walking out we were encouraged to walk around. We were able to visit most of the rooms in this beautiful mansion and caught part of the story that was being told during the tour. It was beautiful and now I want to go back and enjoy the full tour and a dinner as well! Can't believe I'm an Arizona native and had never went! We waited a year to make a reservation here for Valentine's Day since we wanted to come last year and missed the reservation window. We made reservations for 8:30pm and paid a $100 deposit. Had I known the type of service we were going to get for the amount of money we paid, we NEVER would have come here. If you use self park, prepare to walk a very long way to get up to the restaurant and walk up at least 6 flights of stairs. We were on time for our reservation, but they were backed up. 25 minutes after our reservation time, we finally got seated. There were so many things that went wrong: *no bread basket (other tables had one); *6 tiny cubed pieces of bread served with the fondue, so we asked for spoons and it took a while for them to be found; *drink order came one hour after sitting at the table; *water glass and soft drink was not refilled for an hour, and was only done because we asked; *when asking about the bread, the attempt to rectify the situation wasn't much better- a plate of some slices of bread (no basket) and another cup of fondue, this time with more than 6 pieces of tiny bread cubes; *even though they ended up giving us the bread, once the entrées came, (3 min later) they took away the bread (but other tables had their bread until after they finished their entrées) *we ordered our entrées medium well- only one plate was cooked correctly- the other was more like medium rare and sent back; *the "fixed" entrée was still not cooked to order, (more like medium) and served with less food than the plate that was sent back (I suppose our punishment for sending it back.) *one of the waitstaff was clearing a table and put the lit and burning candle votive on the velvet chair- it sat in the chair for a good 20 minutes before someone moved it. The cost was $165 per person plus tax and 20% gratuity, (yes, 20% for 2, NOT 5 or 6) costing over $400 for 2 people with NO ALCOHOL. The laughable attempt to "make up" for the lack of service was to comp an $8 beer and give us 2 chocolate covered strawberries. No lowering of the gratuity that they KNOW was un-deserving at 20%. Last year we went to Ruth Chris and had excellent food and service. Had we known how disappointing, over-priced and underwhelming this experience was going to be, we would've let them keep our deposit and went to Ruth Chris. We know Ruth Chris has great service, excellent food cooked to order, and we would've saved ourselves $150!! Totally ruined Valentine's Day for us. NEVER. AGAIN. EVER. read more

We took out of town guests to the tour and lunch of the Wrigley Mansion. The tour is delightful and lots of interesting facts about the history of the house. We also had the tour lunch which included a choice of 4 items. Two of us got the Turkey Melt, someone ordered the chicken sandwich and one got the Spam Cubano. The Cubano was very rich and quite a presentation with chips coming out of a Spam can. The turkey melts were delicious & served with a mix of skinny potato and sweet potato fries. The fried chicken sandwich was good. Hibiscus Tea was also very refreshing. TODAY - The turkey melt was so good that we picked one up for lunch today. Unfortunately, there was no melt at all, no cheese. That was a bummer! That's the whole reason why we ran by to grab that sandwich. Maybe To-Go for lunch is NOT a good idea!? read more

Let's get this out of the way now: Frank Lloyd Wright not only didn't design Wrigley Mansion, but he also actually loathed the property. So there! Regardless of whether or not you intend to dine here, you must take the guided tour. Honestly, Wrigley Mansion in and of itself isn't the most luxe property you'll see in your life, but the history of this building and the people who have called it home is incredible! The guide we had on our weekend tour was such a storyteller and brought this place to life. From imagining William Wrigley to getting the idea to flavor gum (nope, the first flavor wasn't spearmint but juicy fruit!) to envisioning the second owner Geordie playing his one-of-a-kind piano in the dining room, this is such an immersive experience. I learned so much in one hour here. Thank God that early Phoencians fought to get this property on the Historic Register, or we wouldn't be able to enjoy it now. And the views from up here are spectacular! I've spent considerable time at the Arizona Biltmore, but you can't beat the feeling of Wrigley Mansion. You will look out onto the Valley and realize what a thriving city we are in. I have yet to dine at Christopher's, but I know they put together an extended calendar of special dining events. After your tour, make sure and grab a cocktail or glass of wine at Geordie's. You won't regret spending part of your afternoon in Arizona's historic past. Book the tour on Tock. This was my 4 time at the Wrigley's Mansion, went for Mother's Day brunch (couldn't get a table until 3pm with 4 weeks reservation in advance), it was very disappointing. The menu was a fixed 2 choice 3 course brunch plus dessert which in itself wasn't bad at all but we had to wait 1/2 hr in between courses and by the time I got my main course I was not hungry at all The service was mediocre and the price too high for what you get. $378 for 2 people, 22% tip included, no drinks just the food. (Coffee and juice included) I will not go back for Easter, Mother's Day or any special occasion brunches they are not worth it. read more

The service and ambiance is slipping. This used to be a no brainer whenever I wanted yummy wine in a relaxed atmosphere with decent service and food. Now, it has changed. They have a new manager, new chef, and it is way more crowded than it used to be. So I wasn't a fan of the prior chef. I had been wanting to check out the new chef as he had great reviews at his last place. We went this past Friday and it was very busy. I saw busses on the bottom of the driveway and so many cars on the top. Valet peeps are always nice young men with impeccable manners. Asked them if there was an event and they said there's some private dinners and also jazz night and it's always like that every Friday now. Interesting as I went a few weeks ago for jazz and it wasn't that crazy. My friend reminded me last time we went to the later jazz so that could be why. The table wasn't ready yet at the reserved time so had to wait a bit. When everyone arrived, we still had to wait a bit. Took us to the main dining room and I was surprised the ambiance had changed. It was nice and cozy, but disconcerting to walk and hear the jazz in the tea room, then club music at the bar room, and then other music in the main dining room. They really made it into individual spaces, which is cool. We had our usual table, but I commented they had angled it and that they had rearranged the dining room so that was also a surprise. It was also a much younger crowd than it used to be. It took a while for someone to approach us to ask what water we wanted. Then a bit before Bill our server showed up. We had to ask him for the specials. We didn't order until almost an hour after our reservation time and informed him we had jazz reservations next door so if he could put a rush on it. Service did not used to be this slow! We ordered the pizza to start (this was super yummy because of the sauce), a bottle of 2018 Cade (this was good, but I was appalled that the new manager/Somm used his hand to wipe the wine spillage (note he did this each time he poured so it wasn't like he was busy and forgot the first time) and also in the middle of servicing our wine, stopped to talk on his mic for other customer/staff issues), branzino (surprisingly very good), filet (can't go wrong), Cornish hen (also noms), lamb and side of the eggplant (noms). I was pleasantly surprised with the food so will definitely be back for more. Last time, we had awful service in the jazz room and we were shocked they only played for an hour, especially because it took like 30 minutes before we got service, but food and champagne was good. That same manager/somm took forever to get our bottle--he did apologize and said it got busy, but thats a little cray cray. This time we had a bottle of 2019 daou reserve with our desserts and had great service, but we didn't get seated until 8:30 due to our dinner running late. We made sure to tell the jazz server we were wine members to get our discount. That is the other gripe I have about this place--there is no notation that we are wine members for the servers to know to give us our discount. So we are almost always overcharged. They also changed it so now it's 15% all the bottles vs some bottles bring discounted and others not so I think that will help a little bit if you remember to tell the server to apply the discount. I really enjoy the piano and saxophone players. The calendar said there would be vocals, but for some reason, they only had a guest singer. I was really looking forward to that so was a bit disappointed. I'll definitely return for food. I wish you could have dinner while listening to jazz as I would like that better and not feel so rushed. Since my original review the Chef has changed a number of times and the Wrigley Mansion has been remodeled some. This is a lovely old multi million dollar mansion that sits on a mountain top with lovely views. There are reasonable fees to dine here that are donated to charity. It's almost the same fee for a year membership so if you plan to come here twice in the year it's more economical to just buy a year's membership. They also do tours and you can add on a lunch option. I am a big fan of Christopher's Restaurant so I wanted to try The Wrigley Mansion again since Chef Christopher is the executive chef in charge. They started us off with baguette and butter. It didn't seem like Christopher's but was still tasty. I started out with the Corn Gazpacho. It was a cold soup cucumber soup that was thickened with corn. As a gazpacho the soup was good but they didn't use the best corn and the corn used was tasteless. For my main plate I went with the Smoked Salmon Appetizer because at Christopher's this plate was to die for.........It's a completely different plate here. It's not bad....but it's not Christopher's. The Smoked Salmon was cut a little thick and was slightly leathery. However the addition of caviar made it seem sort of special. My husband picked the Cuban Sandwich made with Roasted Pork and Spam was very good. (The Spam is a cute Nod to the Hormel Ownership) We shared a Summer Truffle Macaroni and Cheese. Didn't taste any Truffles but hey it was only $10.00 so that was expected. To add Good Truffles to any dish is extremely expensive. The noodles were cooked nice. the dish was creamy and cheesy...It was good. My plate was ultra light so I saved room to try the lemon tart because I always loved that dessert at Christopher's. The dessert came out less detailed but still had the same wonderful lemony flavor. Crust was thicker here... I'd rate this visit as a 3.5 ....hoping dinner is the sweet spot here. These were made right up front after we were told to inform our server with any diet restrictions we may have. Specifically, all the desserts had gluten, so we were offered sherbert. We loved the 1-hour tour of the Wrigley Mansion. Constructed in 1932, this is just one of five homes for Wrigley -- the chewing gum magnate -- who would often visit in the winter to escape the brutal Chicago weather. We hopped on the 2 PM tour, but there are tours throughout the day. You can either opt for the tour including lunch (varies from $26-$37 per person) or just join without the meal ($15 plus a $5 membership fee). Interestingly enough, ownership changed hands several times. And in 1992, the city of Phoenix was planning to tear it down to make room for condos. However, Geordie Hormel (heir of the Spam fortune) and his wife Jamie fell in love with the property and purchased it. Together they restored it back and opened it up to the public. Insider tip: Be sure to check out the telephone room, which has wallpaper made out of silver Wrigley gum wrappers. The building is oftentimes used for weddings (in fact, one was being set up the day we visited). And there is also a steak restaurant and wine bar on site. If you have time to relax, this wouldn't be a bad spot to enjoy the view and a glass of wine! read more

Is it cool? Yes. Is it worth the $17-plus-tax tour? No. And no there's no real vegan food at their restaurant. We were browsing through TripAdvisor for things to do while in Phoenix and came across this mansion. Reportedly, the mansion was built by Bill Wrigley - the inventor of bubble gum who at 57 years old today is still alive and has a net worth of 3.1 billion dollars. This is just one of his several mansions he's built across multiple cities of the world. And all from selling bubble gum :) Anyways, we drove to see it. It's actually in a commercial/condo area and is at the back of a building that's a little difficult to find. But there are signs and a nice bridge that gets you to the mansion. Parking is free unless you want to do Valet. The mansion sits atop a hill so you can overlook the desert, mountains, and distant views of the Phoenix skyline. It's beautiful even from the parking lot. Once you arrive, there's a board for Gardens on the left. Look for it - its hidden behind a stairwell but well worth the view. It appears as if they host weddings there (because it features a nice arch against a backdrop of the mountain). And is free to just stroll in and look around. There is a grand entrance to the mansion, which really looked nice with all the holiday decor. You climb the steps and there's an indoor+outdoor restaurant and bar. Yes it's overpriced but the view is pleasant. I don't know about the food as it doesn't have any vegan options except for salads (and you guys may know that I hate salads lol). So we didn't eat there.. There's a tour for $17pp plus tax that takes you through the mansion and tells you everything about Bill Wrigley and the architecture of the place. Honestly it seems a little unnecessary. You can enjoy the views of the mansion just peripherally; the tour doesn't add much unless you are a history or architectural fanatic. The views were wonderful. Our server was great. We went last year and had a fabulous dinner. This year they have a new chef and we were less than impressed with the food, which we found to be totally subpar. The worst part of our experience was when we requested a particular bottle of wine from the sommelier & said he didn't have the bottle of wine we were looking for, but something close. He never asked what appealed to us about the wine., what qualities we were looking for. He really seemed like he wanted to get away. We hated the wine. He knew we did not like it and was completely fine with that. When you spend $125 on a bottle of wine it would be really nice to savor it! The Wrigley Mansion was built in 1929 and is actually just one of the many residences that William Wrigley owned. I read that this mansion is actually the "smallest" one he lived in. At over 16,000 square feet I would have hated to have William Wrigley come over to my place; he would have thought that I lived in a van down by the river by that standard (Lah-dee-frikkin' dah!). In the early 90's ownership changed hands when Geordie Hormel of the Hormel foods family empire bought the mansion. Small touches of his imprint on the house permeate through the building, such as the on-site restaurant named Geordie's and a few walls showing old photographs and news articles about Geordie Hormel's life. The mansion offers both self and valet parking. The self parking is in a lot that is a short walk up to the mansion but there's no sidewalk for you to walk up so you might have to dodge the occasional car coming down the road. The mansion is stunning. You don't see architecture like this too often. The art style inside was an interesting hodgepodge of different eras. In some rooms it was very art deco (I felt like I was in a Bioshock hotel room before everyone wigged out and turned crazy), while others had wood decor that channeled more of an old European manor. Many paintings adorn the walls by various artists that span multiple time periods and styles. There's even a Renoir near the bathroom of the bridal room. Eclectic is probably a good word for this place. They offer guided tours, tours that include lunch, or you can go wandering around the grounds and rooms on your own. We did a self-guided tour, roaming through each room taking in all the fantastic detail of the mansion. Since there are various articles on some walls about the history of both Wrigley and Hormel, we got the general gist of the mansion's life from conception to present day. I'd still be interested in taking a more official tour sometime later though! Zoning regulations dictate that the mansion has to operate as a private club, so there are options to become a "member" of this club. The cheapest membership is $20/year and includes valet service, no additional fee for dining at the restaurant (Otherwise they add $5 to your bill), tours, and special events. They have two restaurants here, Geordie's and Jamie's Wine Bar. Both are on the ground level and offer full service dining. As a former mansion of the Wrigley family, it's too bad they don't offer Wrigley gum during your tour or dining experience. I could've used some Doublemint or Juicy Fruit after downing one of the delicious Spam Cubanos at Geordie's! read more

This is the second dining establishment that I enjoyed in The Time Before that I returned to during my recent vacation. It has changed drastically, but I think for the better. This time around, the brunch was brought to us. I'm totally fine with the latter option. What stood out with our experience was the quality and taste of the dishes we ordered. My partner had the poutine hash and waffles. I had the waffles with a side of eggs. I really likes hash. I have always felt like it was no big deal--until this trip. The flavor combination in the poutine hash was something out of a dream. Cheese curds? What? If you like food and you aren't vegan, you'll like it. Trust me. Then there were the waffles... The waffles came with an apple sauce. No, not the garbage that is served to toddlers and hospital patients. These were apples cooked to perfection in a sauce that defied logic. It should have been too sweet, and it was not. You know how you're supposed to use tart apples in apple pie, but then the pie still tastes too sweet? These waffles achieved what most apple pies hope to accomplish. I've been to Belgium many times. I scoff at the waffles there compared to what I had at The Wrigley Mansion. I took off one star for the time it took for our food to be served. My partner got his hash, I was given my eggs, and then the wait began. Again, I understand staffing shortages in the middle of a pandemic surge. I'm hoping that was the issue. I wish we had had room for dessert. The online experience to make reservations was very user friendly and easy to do. The tour guide, Helen, did a great job providing the history and color of the home and the families who lived within. Lunch was outstanding! All the options were great, but I chose the turkey melt. The bread it was served on, a cranberry walnut grain bread was amazing, quite possibly one of the best sandwiches I ever ate. The fries were great, too. The package price of $35 per person was a bargain, well worth the visit. I highly recommend this place! read more

Our tour guide was well-versed with unique information, and really took the time to answer our questions and point out little details. After our tour we had a delicious lunch. It was our anniversary and the staff was super attentive to that. Tatum, our server and bartender was just great! She made us excellent cocktails, our food came out hot and delicious!
