Located on the outskirts of Newport in Middletown, this was a very nice hotel. I honestly wasn't sure what to expect, given the overall ratings, but it turned out to be one of our favorite hotels on our 12-day New England road trip. The bed was SUPER COMFY. The room was very large, very clean, and we were very close to the elevators, as requested. On the date of our arrival, when we attempted to turn into the parking lot, we were being diverted to quite far away because the hotel was bombarded with three major events, and there was absolutely NOWHERE to park. However, when we told them of my difficulties with walking due to my bad back and knee, they made a special concession for us and actually gave us a great spot. Everyone else was being diverted elsewhere !! By the end of the evening, the hotel returned to normal, and many spots had become available again... but it sure was scary when we first arrived. I would definitely stay here again when in Newport. We found Newport itself to be very cramped and crazy, so it was nice staying a bit off the main beat. read more

Overall, this is a fine hotel relatively close to Newport. Pros : The staff were friendly at all encounters, including me calling ahead to let them know I'd be checking in late. The room was very clean and a pretty good size. Complimentary water in the room. Cons : They significantly inflate the price of rooms for events. Stayed during the Newport Jazz festival and honestly there weren't many hotels with favorable ratings in Newport that weren't already fully booked. The charge was north of $700 which I checked additional weekends and this is over double their usual cost. For that pricing, there isn't anything luxurious about this hotel. read more

We would have done a 5*, if the shower had a door that closed it off, so it was easier to shave legs and not have a heat issue! The fake marble up the wall was a little strange too. It was very clean otherwise, the bed was comfy, plenty of parking, and the price savings to be a little outside of Newport was worth it. Nice property in a great location. We appreciated the shuttle service as it was great to have downtown transportation without having to worry about paid parking and availability. Mike the shuttle driver was awesome! Friendly and had great recommendations. Shuttle left the hotel at the top of every hour and picked up on the half hour downtown. Check in was easy and we appreciated the spaciousness of the room and having two king beds. However, I find it frustrating that housekeeping needs to be requested. We did play by the rules though and request daily housekeeping. We were skipped over during one day of the stay though. We called and asked for cleaning and did receive it but trash cans weren't emptied and the late crew never left additional soaps and shampoos which were needed. We also had issues with water pressure and the AC/heater. The staff did come and fix the water pressure issue but couldn't come same evening which was a bit frustrating as we had to forgo showers. The staff did offer us a new room but it was late and we'd already unpacked everything so we resigned ourselves to make do for one night. Issues aside, we enjoyed the stay and the property. I can't say it was perfect due to the hiccups but decent price and close to Newport. Basically half the price of the downtown establishments so worth while. I'd stay again. read more

Just visited Newport Rhode Island two weeks ago. I used to live in Newport went to Rodgers high school many years ago. My family has a timeshare there now and go on a regular basis. We stayed at the Wyndham recently. This time. I wasn't that happy with the accommodation, I'm a little hesitant to complain because family goes there regularly and I was their guest. They are redoing the Wyndham with updates so I understand that the reason why it was a little chaotic is because the grounds are in repair. My family member was disappointed. She had recently lost her husband and we were going there for a little respite and she had requested a waterfront view and when we got there, we got a side view of the water. It was very disappointing to her. That made me upset when she requested in advance for a full water view when calling the office, the young lady was not that accommodating in that the other individuals that did get the room had not even arrived so it wouldn't have mattered whether our room was changed or not because this was a time of comforting for her due to the loss of her husband and the amount of times they had been there I thought they could've made an exception so I'm just a little upset at the Wyndham right now. It was OK. I know that she will be going back so I'm not going to say too much more about it I don't suppose I will be going back. It was clean. It was very noisy all during the night. I got absolutely no rest. I don't know if it was the elevator going up and down. It sounded as though someone was breaking in every night. It was absolutely noisy. It was near the main thoroughfare so you could walk to anywhere you want to go for breakfast lunch dinner shopping it was very cold in April. All in all the accommodations were fine. The trip was good. It was a sad occasion, but I wish my sister could have had the full front view of the water and I do wish the front desk could've been a little more accommodating and just a little more warmer in the way they have responded, but anybody who wants to go enjoy. Newport is a lovely town go to the creamery get an awful awful get a car drive around and go to Easton Beach. Go to the breakers. Take a boat ride. Have some fish enjoy the sun. read more

Attended a work conference in their latge meeting room. Very spacious, tables were arranged well and bot over crowded. Although the temperature of the room was a little chilly, lighting, and other ancillary items were good. Parking is easily accessible. read more

Great value for the location and amenities. The rooms are thoughtfully appointed with plenty of space to conveniently store your things and relax. I really like how our room came with two comfortable King sized beds, window seating and a view of the water. The saltwater pool was a bonus. If you are coming here for a vacation beware of loud wedding guests! This location is a wedding factory and the guests disregard the after 11pm quiet hours, yelling on the way back to their rooms. They'll get dressed in their JC Penney finest and get drunk on Bud Lites and act like their party at a mid-range hotel is the most exciting thing in their entire lives. So sad. Come mid-week if you want to sleep comfortably as these budget wedding-goers will book Thursday/Friday weddings. Shoutout to the red-headed shuttle driver who was on time, courteous and acted like a tour guide. The complimentary shuttle to downtown Newport was a nice perk to avoid the disaster of in-town parking Deducted another star for housekeeping - DON'T BOTHER TO ASK BECAUSE THEY WILL NOT COME. Make sure to request extra towels for the next day since your room will not be cleaned even if you request a cleaning at check-in. ADVICE FOR MANAGEMENT: Keep your wedding block rooms to one or two floors. Better yet, further limit the # of rooms in the block as non-wedding guest rooms are more profitable. Assign non-wedding block guests to the END of the hallways to minimize disruptions from noisy, drunk guests. read more

We had such a great time! The property was very clean with is much appreciated during Covid. I appreciate the level of detail they took when eating at the restaurant (for contact tracing purposes). The reason for four stars was that I had a bunch of eggshells in my dish, but luckily I also ordered a salad and was pretty full off of that. The views are amazing and the room sizes are great. At night, it did get a little loud, but everyone is coming out of quarantine and celebrating that, so I didn't call down to complain. Very close the the beach and flos crab shack. First time visiting Newport, RI and we stayed at their 2 king-size beds with partial water view. The hotel itself was very clean and the staff was friendly. Loved how spacious/clean the room is. The room also has a nice lounge sofa by the windows, which you can open for some fresh air. The bathroom is a sliding glass barn door with no lock. No tub, it is a standing shower. There is free Wi-Fi and parking (plenty of parking spaces in the hotel). The gym is open 24/7 and it is very small located in the basement. There is a pool, which closes at 8PM, but make sure to call to see if they are open especially now with COVID. read more

One of the best places I've stayed. This hotel puts my recent Hilton Garden Inn stay to shame. This hotel is clean and updated. The bed MAY have been the most comfortable hotel bed I've ever slept in. Staff was super accommodating and helpful regarding the surrounding area. Stopped in on a Tuesday night and were lucky they had a vacancy. Will definitely stay again when in the area. An absolutely amazing place. We found ourselves in town when my step dads mother passed away, he grew up in Newport and coming from north of Boston, we needed a hotel last minute for her services. We were happy to stay at the Wyndham. Being a hotel sales manager, I can say that I'm pretty picky when it comes to hotels. This place knows what they are doing. All the staff was extremely accommodating for my family and I. Nice lobby and on site restaurant. We were coming with our six month old son and a clean pack and play was ready in our room upon arrival. My mom and step dad were a few rooms down the hall. All of our requests were noted and granted. The rooms were spacious and CLEAN. (Bravo to house keeping) Great location. Will definitely be staying here again next time we find ourselves in town. read more

Sad because I loved the location, the grounds and the hotel! I was definitely going to give a 4 or even 5 star review, until I was shocked by the woman who worked Saturday July 18th at the front desk during the overnight shift. My boyfriend and I went for a walk around 3:30am because right when we arrived we left to grab dinner and drinks. We really didn't get a chance to check out the hotel/grounds/etc. So we walked down to the lobby- walked around outside and then went into the "Guest Office" which is on the first floor (same floor as the lobby) and was filled with tourist attractions, maps, brochures, a computer and iPad. As guests of this very hotel we had paid for- I didn't think anything of it. Until we were harassed for walking around - THE VERY HOTEL I PAID TO BE A GUEST IN!!! After grabbing a few maps and pamphlets we went to look at the pool and the security guard immediately opens the door and asks what we are doing. I said just checking out the hotel & he told us the lady at the front desk says we can't wander the halls because guests are trying to sleep??? IM SORRY- but what?!!?!? The security guard was REALLY nice and apologetic but WHAT JUST HAPPENED?!? I was kind of beside myself and didn't want an argument so we both just said ok and quietly walked back to our room. I've NEVER EVER been harrassed for walking around my OWN hotel at night and I travel a lot and have stayed at a lot of different hotels- everything from 2 stars to 5. The weird part was we were 100% quiet and barely spoke above a whisper. We weren't disruptive or loud by ANY means. I COULD see if I was being rowdy loud or disrespectful- but to not be able to walk into the GUEST ROOM at YOUR OWN HOTEL?!?!?! AM I MISSING SOMETHING? She also cockily told my boyfriend he needed his mask at 3:30 am on his way out the door when not a soul in the hotel was up or around!! Attitude adjustment and like some type of "power trip check" might be needed- this is the HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY & this is just completely unacceptable! I AM STILL SHOCKED OVER what happened last night because the employee who checked us in was AMAZING and Everyone else I've encountered here during our stay was beyond GREAT! The woman who checked us in, the security guard, the woman who brought up our room service, the people who helped us coordinate our late checkout and even the women who cleaned our room-- all WONDERFUL!!! But I guess one rotten apple truly does ruin the whole bunch. Because the next morning I just didn't feel like a guest here anymore! I was so disappointed because I really liked this venue and was admiring the wedding's they had here and was even considering it as a possible venue for my wedding. Everything about my experience was excellent minus a couple of things but they weren't enough to deduct a star. The location was perfect. Went during Easter break and the traffic was perfect. It's sort of away from the hustle and bustle with two ways to getting back to town and avoiding the beach route and that traffic. It's 5-7 min from the mansions and the main strip. The double bed rooms were very spacious. Clean and perfect. The issues that I have and I guess could take a star off is the thick glass door to the bathroom that DOESNT lock or has any safety measurements to prevent your fingers from getting smashed off. The reason I bring this up is because I had a 3 year old that kept going to the door and it was getting annoying to have to run to stop him from breaking his fingers. The other issue that I had was the price gouging they had on the snacks in the lobby. It was airport prices. You would think that they wouldn't gouge their clients but it appeared that they saw a profit to make from convenience and I get it but it was bad. Enough to not support this business. I can't stand when business takes advantage of people. 1 oz bag of Doritos: $2! Water: $3 dollars (double the price from Cumberland farms gas station down the street) .... Everything was At least doubled Back on the positive note... the front end were excellent. I forgot how much I paid for one night but if price didn't matter I would definitely return because of the cleanliness and location. read more

We loved our stay here! It was one of the bigger hotel rooms we've ever stayed in. This was useful for us since we generally get take out and eat in our hotel room. I liked that they had a couch in the room. The beds were very comfortable. I loved the bathroom. The highlight , of course, was the pool. We did several excursions this past year and the pool here was my son's favorite. It wasn't so crowded. The water wasn't cold. The staff was very friendly. This was my first experience visiting Rhode Island and the Wyndham made it smooth. Everyone that worked here were very friendly. The hotel itself was beautiful. Large space, lovely indoor pool...but the shuttle to Newport was the game changer! It made everything sooo easy. Hop on the shuttle and not worry about parking downtown. A lovely modern, clean hotel! Our room was great and had cool lights above the tv and above and over the bed. There were plenty of outlets and usb ports at each bedside table. There was plenty of lounging furniture as well and a great TV. The staff (expect one guy who didn't have any enthusiasm lol) were really kind and helpful. The views around the hotel were lovely as well! A note though there is a YMCA next door w/ an outdoor camp going on currently, but we had a very quiet stay. Clean rooms with a modern feel. The bar is a nice size, and the restaurant inside is spacious, but pretty much like a big open room. Water pressure on the fourth floor for my shower was almost nonexistent. Stayed here on business. The conference rooms are nicely laid out, and the food options were OK. Lunch options were pretty good, but the dinner preparation could use some work. Then again, cooking in mass quantities is always a difficult task. My boyfriend and I came here for our anniversary and had a wonderful stay. The front desk staff was so welcoming and knowledgeable about the area - they answered all our questions about the mansion tours, gave us restaurant recommendations and answered the phone with two rings when I called. The rooms themselves were extremely clean and updated. I was very happy to find that the rooms actually look like those pictured on the Internet. The bed was extremely comfortable, and looked really cool with the different light functionalities under and behind it. The bathroom was also extremely clean, and I loved the shower. So open, large, and beautiful. The location of the hotel was great, too. It was out of the busyness of the wharf area but close enough we were there in 8 minutes, and we didn't have to deal with parking or valet with the hotel, which was great. They did have a pool and a gym which were both nice/updated amenities. Ultimately, giving this place 5 times because my boyfriend told them it was our anniversary and while we were out spending the day, they put champagne glasses, a mini bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries in our room with a very sweet note. My partner and I had a fabulous time here on our anniversary. It's definitely a popular place for weddings and events as there were events on both the Friday and Saturday of our weekend getaway. There was a little bit of noise, audible from the elevators and people walking up and down the hall past the indicated quiet hours. Besides that, we had a fabulous time. We had solo time in the pool because no one else happened to be there while we were there. The property is extremely clean. The food was very good in the hotel restaurant! Hotel itself was updated. Pool was nice. However, this hotel needs to decide if they're a wedding venue or a hotel where guests can come to sleep. I stayed here on a Sunday night and couldn't get any sleep. There was a wedding party in the restaurant area after the restaurant closed. There were drunk guests running down the hall and yelling there and also screaming in the restaurant which had no doors to shut. It went on from 10-12:30 at least. At midnight I went to the front desk and the lady was unsympathetic. She finally moved me after I complained but right next to the elevator which was also not quiet. The most frustrating part was-When I checked in I specifically asked if I could have a quieter room if possible as I had a lot of driving to do solo the next day and I needed to rest. There are also signs and information in your room about quiet hours start at 11pm and you can be fined if you get a complaint. However the hotel can book whatever and rake in the dough and break their own rules. Seems like there are other reviews like mine from all days of the week. Wouldn't recommend this hotel if you like to sleep. read more

What a great stay! We stayed there for three nights last week (second week of July), the hotel is clean and modern. It has a restaurant, bar, outside patio and a saltwater pool. What we really loved was that they had a shuttle that takes you down town and picks you up. Everyone was very very nice. We have to give a huge shout out the the shuttle bus drivers they were amazing. Some of them talk on the ride and give you recommendations and if you have questions they always have an answer. I wish I caught the name of the gentleman that drove the shuttle bus our first night there, he was excellent!( July 12 @ 6pm) He gave a whole tour of downtown. Another great driver was Gene! Also I'd like to give a shout out to the host at the patio. He might have been a kitchen manager as well. Didn't get his name but WOW talk about customer service. He was so attentive and nice. The night time front desk girl loaded up the luggage cart and took all my stuff to my room. She did that twice!! Need to watch when you cancel at this place. Had to cancel due to changes in my work schedule. My stay was for for 11/22/21-11/26/21. I called and canceled on 11/10/21 and got a refund on the money I had put down. On 11/22/21 they charged me for there no show policy. I called and they said someone had put in the notes that I called back and stated that I was going to still be coming or that my mother was going to be paying for the room. Little shady if you ask me. Had to call and get another refund for the new charges after I had already canceled weeks prior. read more

We had a fantastic experience here. The grounds are gorgeous. The hotel is spotless. The bed was comfy! Our only issue was that the noise in the hallways and doors closing were really really loud. We had a sound machine with us and it didn't make a difference so our toddler startled a lot at night. Other than that it was a great stay and we will be back! read more

At first when I got to the hotel it looked very nice, a restaurant with a full service bar, snacks to purchase, nice big, comfy beds. But this all changed when I turned on the shower. I waited 30 mins for it to get warm and it never did (lukewarm at best). If you are going to pay a high price for a nice stay, you at least want a warm shower to end your night.
