I really like this place, but I have many a-typical opinions about burritos, so take what I say with a grain of salt. This is kind of like a hybrid between a place like Serrano's and a "mission-style burrito chain" (think: Chipotle, Qdoba, etc). Where it's different than the chains is that you don't pick out all your ingredients, Subway-style. You choose from a menu of burritos with pre-populated ingredient bundles. Ya'll indecisive types are probably delighted by this. (you know who you are, you take 20 seconds to decide if you want pickles on your sub or not...HOW DO YOU NOT KNOW?!) Me. I know what I want. When I want it, and how I like it given to me. So, I wish I had more ingredient control. I ended up getting a fajita burrito. It was massive AND it came with chips. They have a wide selection of house made sauces too, which is very much appreciated. Nothing more depressing than a Mexican place with a mild house salsa and a bottle of tapatio and...that's it. Them's the only two options. It was tasty, but I find the burritos at the chains I mentioned above often have a fresher taste. Also, the ramekins for sauces are way, way too tiny. I was surprised how nice it is inside. Even though it isnt full service, it's really pretty. Order at the counter, pay and they bring it to you. It's not cheap though, dont expect Taco King prices. For 8.95 I got the Tortilla Soup and OMG it was so good. It had avocado, zucchini, cheese, chicken, chips, cilantro and a fantastic savory broth. Also got the best Horchata I've ever had. Honestly Xalos kicks it up to another level. Ended up going for late lunch and was not disappointed. Very quick and easy lunch stop. Ended up getting the quest Birria tacos. I would say they do them better than most the places here. Very juicy and flavorful. If you don't want to get messy then I would not recommend. Also get chips and salsa. Been here once and it was mad decent. The size of the burrito for the price is pretty great, I did struggle to finish it. I'd love to come back and try some tacos or combo plates. I'm surprised at how good this place is. This was my first time trying it. The burritos are huge. Enormous! The quality of the meat was surprisingly good too. Normally in a chain you have to really pick and choose wisely, because there's no telling if it was pulled from a bag and rehydrated with water. The food is actually exceptional. The service could use a little work. My first visit, my order was wrong and we didn't get all of it. When we went back for the second time hoping it was a fluke, the order was wrong again. Luckily we ate there so we got the problem fixed. The restaurant is very clean. The staff is very nice, although could be more attentive. I've got no issues with food. It had been awhile since my hubs and I had been to Xalos. We had to do a quick Target run and we're both hungry so we went to Xalos. He didn't remember the last time we were there and all I remembered was the food was good. I had the Pollo Aso plate and he had the Birria plate. We each got a drink and we split the queso and chips. And if you order soup, it'll come out a little later than the taco/burrito orders - believe me it's worth the wait. The only complaint I have of their soups is the menudo does not have hominy. It must be a regional thing, but grandma made it with hominy and it's just weird not having in my menudo. Very nice staff, but my (ex) boyfriend and I were told that they were out of ground beef when we ordered so I asked for steak instead. The price went up and they charged my (ex) boyfriend over $30. When we left the restaurant and opened our boxes, I saw GROUND BEEF on my nachos. I though they didn't have any! I showed my (ex) boyfriend and he said, "so I just paid an unnecessary amount of money?" I agreed with him and ended up giving him some money since we couldn't get a refund. Really great fast food. Very comparable to Taco Del Mar which brings me a lot of happiness. My husband and I both got the burrito con queso. He had ground beef and I had shredded beef. So delicious. We loved the salsa bar. The flavor overall was great. Only downside to my burrito was that it was a bit too liquidy. Nothing a little time in the fridge wont fix. My biggest suggestion would be to wrap the burritos tighter and maybe add a bit more rice so when you do have so many wet ingredients that it wont be a liquidy mess. Restaurant was clean. So, being a huge fan of Mexican, we finally decided to stop in for dinner the other night with our son. I was not overly impressed. It reminded me of a scaled down version of Qdoba. This is really good fast food! I can't believe I waited so long to check it out. The offerings are all so tasty, from the different meat fillings (the carnitas are my favorite, followed by the carne asada) to the fresh veggies. They have a nice oniony pico de gallo, too. I've only tried the burritos, huge as is the style now. I like that because then I have two meals. The salsa bar is excellent! Gotta have that restaurant style sauce, chunky and with some good heat that's not overwhelming. The staff are so helpful and always have a pleasant attitude. I appreciate that. And I love the decor! So vibrant, creative, and nice enough to feel like you're not at a fast food place if you decide to eat in. I cook, I travel and review restaurants, but the AMAZING ladies of Xalos of the 100th Ave store will always get 5 stars!!! The special's for each Xalos location vary. All three if the Xalos locations have the same menu. I got a grease taco ONE TIME in three years. That is the only negative thing I could ever say about Xalos. THREE YEARS people, that is quality!!! It wasn't even from my favorite location so I don't think it counts. I LOVE THIS RESTAURANT. casual and fast. Some of the best Mexican in town. I've had a lot of the menu items and all of them are made with love and great. Ceviche, quesadillas, Cinco de Mayo burrito, picante burrito, the veggie burrito barefoot, chicken tortilla soup, queso dip, torta loca, street tacos, taco salad, all of these are delicious. Even their black beans and rice are flavorful and delicious. I may be their number one fan. We go there at least once a week. I grew up in this town eating Mexican. They are my favorite.
