It is hard to find a good banh mi in this city, and this place has them. 8 different kinds, I have had 3 so far and they all have been winners. I have tried the egg rolls as well, small but super tasty. I have not yet tried the pho but It looked pretty good. Lots of seating in this place, but if the restaurant is busy you might be waiting a while for your food. My favorite was the house special banh mi. It will cost you around 6 dollars for the sandwich, not bad because the banh mi is on the larger side, very filling :) read more

I had lunch here two days in a row while on a business trip. The pho soup is great. The pork sandwich was great with an Asian flavor and blend of crisp vegetables. Best pho I've ever had, and perfect on the near 0 degree day we visited. Fresh everything came they in the flavors, and the fried rolls were pretty tasty too. It's a small place, but very clean. And definitely not a date night spot, as you won't be impressing anyone with the decor, etc., but if you want great pho it's the one. You order at the counter and they bring your food out to you. Going back to when this place was in Pacific Produce it was my go-to place for banh mi. My latest visit was a big disappointment. I'm not sure what is going on with this place but the quality has significantly gone down in the last few months. They were closed for several weeks earlier this year (or maybe late last year) for "remodeling." I'm not sure what was remodeled because everything is the same. On this last visit they raised the prices. I understand that you may have to raise your prices from time to time, however if your going to do that make sure quality at least remains the same. On the last few visits the soda machine is out of order, so no ice or cold water. And on the sandwich there was significantly less meat than in the past so the ratio of bread to fillings was not right. It is also much more salty and it is now has a weird texture. It used to be sliced now it's like a cross between ground and puréed. Not good anymore. Too bad this place was a regular spot for me. I won't be back. read more

It is nice for Xankia to have a lot more seating than they did at Pacific Produce. Do expect to wait a couple minutes as each sandwich is made to order. High expectations based on the other reviews, but they definitely fall short. I've never been to a pho place where I can count the number of bean sprouts to put in my pho- 11! That's all they gave me. They also have the smallest spring rolls I've ever had. Expensive based on the amount of food you get. The only service you get is when they drop the food off at your table. I came from a small town in Central WI and had a Bahn Mi restaurant there. The food was great and the prices even better. Well my friend told me about this place and my eyes lit up. Could it be as good as my small town shop? Was it going to cost me an arm and leg for good food? I couldn't wait. We ended up going the first day they were open in the new location. The location is right down town so I figured the prices would be super high, but boy was I wrong. This place rocks, and in more than one way. The price point on the sandwich is spot on. For what you get in the meal its almost criminal to charge so little as I think its cheaper than what I was paying back home! The quality is spot on and the service was great. Super friendly staff and they make some of the best food I've had in the city thus far and I love it. We ended up getting some Pho as well and it was excellent. In my opinion the egg rolls are amazing. I seriously have never had an egg roll like this and loved it! I could just eat them all day. Overall I've been back several times and each time love this place even more. This was my first foray into bahn mi and although I have a novice palate, the bar has now been set. The veggies were fresh and crisp. The bread was crusty and soft. The meat was flavorful. The ingredients were perfectly proportioned and blended together excellently. I got the jalapeños and there were just enough to give a bite but not be overbearing. I washed everything down with the Vietnamese iced coffee. Creamy and rich, it offset the heat of cilantro and jalapeños. The menu is not extensive, evidence of quality over quantity. Unfortunately the steamed pork buns and the shrimp chips were sold out, obviously a favorite of earlier customers. This simply provides an excuse, not that I need one, to return. read more

If you want to get a nice sandwich on Wells St, you can choose between national chain, S-way or just go next door to Xankia. I love their banh mi. Their French bread is crunchy and toasted well.I I tried their house special with cold cuts inside. It's perfection with their wonderful, crisp, fresh carrot pickle and cilantro. My partner tried the grilled pork banh MI which has a wonderful seasoning. You can add jalapeño pepper to your sandwich for a kick. Their sandwich is very affordable. For around $5, you can get a huge sandwich or make it into a meal for a couple dollars extra. If you choose a meal, you can choose between egg rolls or chips. Their egg rolls are OK, nothing special for that. This place also serves boba smoothie. I tried their milk tea boba smoothie, which is a bit too sweet for my liking,buy it's not bad. I will try their fruit next time since they have durian flavor available! Their service is very good. The cashier was kind, efficient. The food also came fast. Xankia is definitely in my regular rotation and would encourage anyone that is looking for a great sandwich with an ethnic bite to come here. Went here for lunch on a Friday. It wasn't too busy and there's lots of space to sit down and eat in. The food was awesome! I got the number one house special with the egg rolls and it was so much food for only $7. Amazing deal and delicious. The sandwich was so fresh. We also tried the pho which was ok, but a little salty. And the bubble tea was ok. Really, the sandwich deal is what makes this place amazing. I wish I could give it 5 stars, but the service was so slow. Maybe 20 minutes to get a sandwich. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and taste of the Banh Mi sandwiches! I had the Pork Tenderloin and it was very good; excellent baguette, tasty pork, and very fresh veggies. I saw this place was closed to where I worked and I was craving Pho so I decided to try it out. Upon entering into the establishment it was extremely dead and their drink dispenser was mostly out of order, but hey that didn't bother me none. I order the Special Pho and an Egg roll to go. Upon my return to work, I noticed that each items were separately packed up (great concept), but my egg roll was extremely small (for $1.25). I should have sprang for $4.95 shrimp and pork spring rolls instead, as they were much bigger and fresher. I tried the Pho and the broth was a bit bland, as it was lacking something that I couldn't put my finger on. Although it was bland the brisket was tender as well as the Asian Meatballs, but wish they would have included shrimp in the pho special as well for that would made it a lot better and worth $9.99. What a nice discovery while I was working in Milwaukee this week. Really good pho, nice and hot, which is great because all of the basil, peppers and bean sprouts can quickly turn your meal luke warm. The broth has excellent flavor, better than most I have had in the Chicago area. I didn't feel the urge to add hot sauce, like I do when the broth is very bland. I walked in close to closing time. Most of the chairs were going up on the table and there were people cleaning the floors but they still served. I got the fried tofu bahn mi. Really tasty food in downtown, perfect for a quick lunch (quicker if you call ahead) and some tasty Vietnamese food. I have tried three different types of their bahn mi sandwiches (Meatballs, Grilled Pork, and House Special) and they were all very tasty with really great bread. Their lunch special comes with a fountain drink and TWO egg rolls for only a few dollars more than the sandwich. They also have vermicelli bowls and pho available, which I have yet to try!
