Moved back into Oakland recently, Got comcast because it was easy. Well, I thought it would be easy anyway. The experience, quite frankly, has been awful. Setting up service the tech put in an copmletely unneccessary uncapped splitter (therefore screwing up my service). getting them to remove the splitter was a pain. The past two weeks have been nothing but packet loss, transient outages, and people treating me like an idiot. I just had one customer service man tell me that there was nothing they could do about the problem and that I had to "deal with it". I am never using comcast services ever again. read more

This company is a nightmare. If you have ANY other option for cable or internet I highly recommend you take advantage of that. Comcast/Xfinity has caused more stress and headaches than any other company or business I've ever had to deal with. Unfortunately we had no other option but comcast due to our apartment building. While I have a handful of outrageously bad experiences, I will only share one. Comcast gave us bad equipment, so when we set it up it didn't work (also had to pay $30 to wait in line 45 minutes to pick up the equipment, they call this a "self install kit fee".) When none of our services were working they sent out a technician who informed us we had the wrong "codes." Comcast charged us $70 for his 5 minute visit. Later we found out the problem was our equipment which means we paid $70 for a technician to come out, which never would have been necessary if they had given us good equipment in the first place. After 7 days of no internet and no cable we got our services up and running (I would have preferred going to the dentist 7 days in a row.) But they told us they would credit our account for the 7 days we didn't have service...which they did....until the 2nd bill came...on the second bill came it showed that we did not pay our first bill fully, they added in the self install fees and technician visits and threw away any credits we had and suddenly we owed a whopping $275 just 10 days after paying $135. They graciously offered to take $30 off our bill. WHEN THEY HAVE NO COMPETITION THEY WILL TREAT YOU LIKE YOU HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE...AND YOU DON'T. But if you do have a choice, please stay away from this lying, thieving company. read more

1 star is too much....Where is the the 0 option? Hi Comcast/XFinity, could you please elaborate what kind of service makes up the CHSI SIK fee? I recently moved to my apartment and I was charged twice for CHSI SIK fee fro $200 total and a relocation fee of $25. I have talked to your customer service to have these fees removed as based on their explanation, this was because the technician came to my apartment and did a professional installation, i.e. modem setup etc. I patiently explained to them that I had purchased my own modem and did the setup myself. The problem I encountered was that the main wire in the junction box, that is located outside on the apartment wall, was disconnected. They came and connect it once, and did again a second time because for reason unbeknownst to me and them, it was disconnected again. Both instances, the technician came and all they did was make the connection on the junction box outside, which was beyond the scope of my responsibility. I have contacted your customer service multiple times to have these charges removed and was constantly told that a professional installation was done by the technician. Again, I explained that no such thing had happened and they said there is nothing they can do. Thanks Comcast for being dishonest. read more

Not that I've ever had a great Comcast experience, but this one was by far the worst. I came into this store with my right hand in a cast, holding my equipment for return and the floor rep made eye contact with me and pointed outside at a Dropbox, avoiding any verbal communication. So I asked, "do you only accept returns in the Dropbox? " He replies with an attitude, "Unless you wanna wait..." I look around and there's 2 customers in the store, and about 7 employees who weren't on phone calls or assisting anyone. Feeling like this wasn't going anywhere, I struggle to take the items out of the box with one hand and place them in the dropbox. read more

Really Comcast, how hard is it to change your website and information you give on the phone to give people the right address for a customer service center in Oakland??? I rarely write reviews but am writing this one to save others from doing what i did: Drive an hour in rush hour traffic to the address Comcast gave me: 8470 Pardee Dr, Oakland, CA 94621 only to find a small sign on the door (photo attached) with a different address 5 miles and 40 minutes away in more traffic: 3070 E. 9th St. Oakland, CA. (Oh, and be sure to add the "East" to your GPS or you will end up at a warehouse in downtown Oakland). I am giving it one star because the lady at the counter at the Fruitvale store was nice, helpful and apologetic about the directions given by Comcast. I am very happy to be rid of my Comcast cable box and router -- having shut down cable TV completely (yay Netflix and Amazon) and bought my own router for an internet connection instead of paying Comcast $10 every month to rent theirs. Comcast sent a new modem, promising it would deliver much faster internet speeds. I dutifully installed it. Sometimes speeds were great, other times they were terrible. I called support, and they tried resetting it. No help. They then passed me onto service level 2, who inform me that for a mere $80 they'd help me solve the problem. I protest that the problem began with their new equipment, and that charging me $80 for making it work as advertised is tantamount to charging me $80 for me "free" new modem. They refused to engage with this argument, and insisted that I could either pay the $80 or attempt to have level 1 service (free) fix the problem. And they assure me that level 1 service cannot fix the problem. Total scam. This company is run by piratical leeches. STAY AWAY FROM COMCAST!!!!! read more

Poor customer service. We've had problems with tiling past several months and they don't see able to resolve. Techs have come out 3 times and cannot find the problem. They now have me recording the dates and times it occur which they say can be traced at their end but I get no feedback and it still is not resolved. Today I am furious because we received notice that HBO would be free beginning 9/6/13 6 am ET to 9/10. However we are not getting it and I get an uninterested customer service rep who says in a monotone voice that it'll be activated sometime today. It's same monotone voice I get whenever I call about the tiling problem. I've tried satellite and they are no better. I hear Astound is good but they aren't available East of Concord. Xfinity needs more broadband competition any maybe then they'll improve their customer service. read more

Watching TV shows and movies on Xfinity is horrible. The shows are constantly freezing and timing out. Netflix doesn't have this issue. Other Internet sites where I'm watching videos (like Hulu, Yahoo, and YouTube) don't have this issue. So Comcast should have gotten the technology down first before rolling out this product of frustration out to the customer. read more

When I first began my cable service it was at the Alameda office and the representative who served me was Eunice. She was incredibly helpful and made that transaction easy and pleasant. That office closed, but to my surprise I discovered her again at their store on 9th St in Oakland. I went to complain that my service seemed slow and she immediately diagnosed the problem as an outdated router. She explained that Comcast replaces them for free since I rent their router. If you are 'technically challenged' you might want to hire their installer for a fee, but if you can do it yourself there is no extra cost to change over. I have read the Comcast reviews and they are dismal, but if you need help and are getting no results, you should visit their store in the Fruitvale shopping center and ask for Eunice. read more

Xfinity has to be one of the worst companies we have worked with. Their technicians can only do external work, they offer limited sizes of cable lengths, etc. It's almost criminal how bad they have gotten. If you have other choices, grab them. Their customer service people do not know what they are talking about, their supervisors promise things that can't be delivered, and their technicians please innocence when they arrive with the wrong equipment. Well if I could put zero stars I would!!!! I had a appointment with Comcast to come and help me get my Tivo set up with the cable card in it. The guy that came was soooooo rude. I tried to explain that I wanted my cable card set up. The tech. told us we needed a cable from the router to the tivo, we said but it's wireless. Well that pissed him off! he was brash and wouldn't let us explain the situation. He said were out of here. My husband tried to ask him to stay and fix the problem he said I am out of here. Then he slammed out our front gate. So unprofessional. I have never experienced anything like this from Comcast or any other well established Company. My husband said "did that just happen? So, i ordered Comcast, but before the installer even came out to the apartment, I informed him I was looking for a reasonable installation fee. He told me that it wouldnt be much and one month later....$385.00 bill! When I called, I actually was willing to go for a payment plan and the best they could come up with was having me come up with TWO payments in August and the remainder 2 weeks later, I call that cramming payments into a short amount of time rather than spreading them out in a affordable manner. Anyway, I decided to go for another company and guess what...a $150.00 disconnect fee. On top of all this, the box never worked right (obviously refurbished). So, lesson here, never trust Comcast to NOT charge many extra hidden fees. BAD BUSINESS!!!! read more

Here's something that will shock you! My computer has been crashing for the last year, while online, and although the error always pointed to a hardware issue, no one could find the problem. Interestingly enough, when we called Comcast the other day for an unrelated problem, I listened to one of the many messages you're forced to listen to before they actually let you talk with a real person. This particular message mentioned that my modem might not be compatible with my internet speed. I called. I got the new modem. My computer no longer crashes. We've been paying Comcast for this internet service but we never imagined that the hardware they supplied was incompatible. Nice of them to finally let us know, even if it was only because we happened to call them with yet another unrelated issue. We call that Xcrazy !!! read more

Without the online help of the FCC I would have been taken. This may have happened to you. My 2 yr contract was about up. I was sent a notice to call xfinity to renew service term and price or be subjected to whatever price xfinity was going to randomly charge me. Before doing so someone just so happened to call me from xfinity to renew our service. That person said since we were good customers he would renew the identical service for us at the same price and term. Sound too good to be true? It was! I never heard or was sent paper work or contract for our agreed upon term. Instead Xfinity sent our new bill charging us some ~$80 more per month. My guess is this was a stall tactic or a method to frustrate me into accepting the new charges. Well it only pissed me off and thus I wrote to the FCC online. To my surprise the FCC answered my complaint within 1-2 days and got the attention of xfinity to resolve the matter in about 30 days back to our agreed upon terms. Thank you, FCC! I suggest if you get the FCC involved, keep your letter short and concise. I'm sure they're processing thousands of complaints each day. They don't need to read long drawn out nonsensical letters to respond to. All these cable and satellite companies scam us as much as they can get away with. If you ever have a problem, you are shuffled from one idiot to the next and they don't care whether you die while you wait. And there is no way to actually speak with a live human when you try to find an answer to a question. Go directly to Comcast jail, do not pass go. It's the usual recorded message that doesn't even offer a subject close to what you are interested in. What's wrong with actually employing people to work and provide real service? I am happily viewing less tv (although I do subscribe to Amazon Prime and Netflix) which, if we all did, the world would be a kinder, gentler place. When Alameda's municipal cable went bankrupt, Comcast bought it. Comcast has given me a $20 loyalty discount for the last 3 years but it has to be renewed every 6 months by haggling. This time, my bill went up without explanation, by 32%. I called twice & [got Manila twice] finally got a discount of $15. The next day, i get an email from Comcast with an entirely different "confirmed" amount than is either on my bill or was quoted to me over the phone. I call the IVR to pay and it tells me a Fourth, completely different amount. Now i have 4 different quotes for my new monthly rate, all more than what I have paid for the last 6 months. i call & ask for live agent. he says the amount I was quoted over the phone is wrong, & he doesn't even have a record of Comcast 's email to me! He won't let me speak to a supervisor, first he says there aren't any, then he says he has a Floor manager, but I can't speak to him. I tell him this is Bait & Switch, & outright FRAUD. My bill says I have On Demand but my box has never accessed On Demand. I don't want an "upgrade" . I just want to pay for what i have. There has been no reason given for a price increase of 32%.It might be worth going to ATT. read more

This company has really gone down. I have been with them since 1995 and now the service is awful. They outsource to the Philippines and it's awful. Not the Loyalty department is just as bad. It took more then three calls to get my rate lowered because the agents kept lying about their rates and did not include all the charges. They kept trying to sell me things that I did not need. The first time they came to install new boxes and modem they did not inform me that they were also installing a new router. Not possible unless my programmer is around...the installed was to be rescheduled. When I called to reschedule I found out that my plan had been cancel and I needed to start over. Got me another plan suppose to be lower got the loyalty agents name and number and was told to call him back if there was a problem with the install. I called only to be told that they could not locate the agent via his employee number and I am unable to speak with him... Another Comcast lie. Oh, did i mention that when the first guy came out he started to install my cable boxes and then stopped and put everything back the way it was...except now one box is not working and I had to wait two days to get another box. Of course it was not like the good box that I had but a little crappy box. Now I get to go to Comcast"s offices/store to try to get my old box back. It's just too much work. I am no longer loyal and will be changing to a company with better customer service... No more lies!!! read more

Beware when signing up for a bundle package with Comcast. The representative I signed up with in Best Buy told me my internet and cable bundle was a about $50.00 (actually more after service fees and taxes) for the first 6 months then the price would change and I could change my account or cancel it. However that was only half true. It turns out that the internet was a 6 month contract and the cable tv is a year contract even though they sell it as a bundle and if I want to cancel the service it costs $120.00. Customer service said they were sorry that the sales person misrepresented the terms of the contract but there was nothing they could do unless I payed the cancellation fee. Basically responsibility was deferred to the sales person and not accepted by the company or customer service. Crooked business practices at best. Make sure to read all the fine print folks, they will trick you and try to keep you stuck in their shady contract if they can. As soon as I can get out of the contract I plan to cancel my service and never use them again. Hopefully there are some better options out there. Judging by the number of bad reviews they get I'm surprised they continue to exist. Perhaps if we all take our complaints to the Better Business Bureau they will change their ways. read more

I canceled my service in walnut creek and a week later attempted to start new service in Oakland but was disturbed to find out that even though I was a loyal customer for years and had given a billon dollar corporation thousands of dollars yearly and on time the rep still demanded a $50 deposit for new service . I payed nearly $200 a month for years and on my last bill I even was credited $109.00. I was broke after moving but I assumed my re-connection was flawless due to my loyalty but the supervisor said he could do nothing mind you this was a supervisor oversees on the telephone not here in America . I was furious and upset I felt that I was a nobody in a world of greed and abuse when it came to these huge corporations . Let me get this straight a billon dollar company is trying to squeeze $50 out of my wallet after I have given them thousands ! I went to my local office in Oakland and had the great pleasure of meeting an outstanding customer service rep named Darlene . She listened to my sob story without interrupting, continued to smile the entire time and said she would do everything in her means to help me . She was Latin and beautiful for anyone who wants specifics and company managers who may read this hopefully . She collected all my information and presented it to her supervisor in a timely fashion always attentive to my needs resulting in the supervisors decision to override the deposit and set up my new service . This is for you Darlene thank you very much ! And for Xfinity you are very very fortunate to have Darlene as a direct representative of the company she is a strong asset to the company . read more

Comcast sucks! The TV service is abysmal - why would anyone choose it over satellite? That being said, I've used Comcast as my Internet ISP for well over a decade and recently, they screwed me so thoroughly I'm looking for an alternative. On Monday, 5/13, my Internet service is fine, that night, it crashes and rebooting the modem doesn't work. Service people can't help - they say my modem is dead and to take it in to the local office to replace it. I did so, but when I called the activation number, the new modem wouldn't activate. I was told a service call was needed but they couldn't schedule one until Friday (of course! A lot of people's Internet was out!). I asked if it could be the modem itself, and the support person said unlikely, but I could trade it for another and try again. I did so, and this time, the local Comcast reps said that an update had been downloaded that had made a lot of modems obsolete. (The service person on the phone claimed they'd sent out email warnings, but my email is on Comcast, and I didn't get any such warning.) The new one wouldn't activate either, so I was stuck waiting for the Friday service call. Mind you, I work from home and Internet is critical to my business, so I spent the week at Starbuck's with my laptop so I could at least check my business email, even if it wasn't feasible to do actual work. Friday, the serviceman comes and says he "sees something" up the pole and after he gets the modem working in my office, he spends about 15 min. up the pole, and of course my Internet service was off/on while he did that. When he left, however, it was working fine and has been ever since. HOWEVER, my Comcast bill came yesterday and I was being charged $50 for a service call! I called and spoke with "Joe," who spent considerable time trying to market to me (if I work from home, I need a more expensive service - of course, that makes sense - no, I just need this one to work!). He said he couldn't remove the $50 charge, but he'd have a supervisor call me "within the hour." Next day, no call having come, I called again. This time I got "Michael," who disconnected me while I was trying to explain the problem. I was beside myself, called back (no, I don't want to order pay-per-view, yes, I can give you my addy and last 4 of my social AGAIN and hold for 5 min. listening to stupid music) when I finally got Eva, who couldn't remove the charge either, but did put me through to a supervisor. Ten minutes on hold later, I got through to Gabby, who is giving me a special $39/mo. + modem rental (yes, folks, YOU pay to rent the modem to have their service but if it goes bad, you have to pay again to get it fixed - makes sense, right?) for a year. That worked, so I'm staying on the service, for that year, but I urge everyone to check your billings carefully and dispute unfair charges like this, even if they make it a struggle to do so! read more
