After reading so many great reviews I'm bummed our experience didn't live up to par.The warm chips and fresh salsa were definitely the highlight of my visit here. We visited Xochimilco on a Saturday with a group of 4. Myself and my fiance ordered the chicken taquitos and the chicken enchilada suizas. Both tasted like day-old chicken that hadn't been seasoned. The other couple in our group ordered fajitas and the enchiladas rojas and were'nt thrilled either. The environment didn't bother me much however and the staff were friendly enough. If you don't eat here, it is your loss! I went there last night with friends. It was absolutely amazing! We're here on business from other states and really wanted to eat somewhere locally owned. We the margarita our waitress suggested was delicious! Shaken and poured table side. The mole enchiladas were exquisite! Out waitress was very gracious, as we got there an hour before closing. This used to be our favorite Mexican restaurant but the past few years it had gone down hill. Went there for dinner a few days ago. I chose this restaurant after reading reviews on Yelp. I wondered if it was worth the four miles off the interstate highway. Having spent a lot of time living in Texas and traveling to San Antonio and the Rio Grande Valley I am particular about my Mexican food. This restaurant rates with the best Mexican restaurants in Texas and San Diego. The exterior as well as the interior could use a little updating. It is however on par with the better restaurants in the Rio Grande Valley. I ordered the seafood enchiladas which were outstanding. The true test of a good Mexican restaurant is, how good are the tamales. I ordered a side of tamales and they were outstanding as well. The service was friendly . My husband and I went there tonight to try out the new one they opened up in Glenwood.....so glad we did! We were greeted straight away and seated, within a few minutes the server gave us chips and salsa. The salsa had great flavor and we didn't have to ask for more chips and salsa, they were at our table asking us if we wanted more!!! Outstanding! The bartender came to our table and asked if we wanted drinks, we wanted margaritas, so he recommended a specific one, that was awesome!! ( can't remember the name :-)) The dinner came shortly, I ordered the Burrito Al Pastor, and my husband had a Carne Azada Burrito, although mine was good , I think my husbands had more flavor, as the bartender recommended also! I really disliked the food at this place. I did, however, like the service. The staff was super friendly and the renovation was great. Though my three year old liked the multi-colored tortilla chips (standard yellow with some red and green), I didn't like all that food coloring and it seemed to cheapen things a bit for me. I also thought they tasted somewhat stale and were not warm. The salsa tasted sort of strange to me - some kind of spice in there I haven't tasted before and tomato base was watery. I had enchiladas and the cheese seemed to be just normal kind of Kraft cheddar cheese (and not much). It was nothing like the thicky, gooey yumminess of different types of cheeses you get, say at El Pastor or El Porton. The enchilada sauce was extremely bland and seemed very, very, very runny. I think they actually must've added lots of water to it: because I actually saw a pool of water atop of the sauce on the side of my plate. Maybe I hit the place up on a bad day with a new chef. Go for the mole; stay for the Xochimilco Margarita. Both the drink and the chicken mole were large enough to share. We over ordered. On the downside: As other reviewers said, the salsa dish is too small. It made for sloppy dipping. And, since it was late, they were out of beans. On the plus side: I liked the dark atmosphere. My husband and I have heard about this place, have driven past it, and we finally gave it a try. Glad we did! We were greeted right when we walked in. All the staff was very nice. We sat down, were brought water, salsa, and chips within a few minutes. The waitress asked us what we wanted to drink. She brought my husband's drink soon after. Gave us a few minutes to decide then took our order. She noticed we were getting low on chips and asked if we wanted more. Brought those right away. Brought us our food, refilled our water, and brought more salsa. Checked on us a couple times throughout. The waitress was wonderful! Very polite, very attentive! Salsa was good an the food was very good. Large portions, decent prices. Glad they were open on Sunday evening! Glad we stopped and we will be returning. read more

Best margarita, worst fajitas! My whole dinner was inedible because so overcooked. The kindly waitress gave me an understanding shrug when I told her the meat was to tough to chew; also the lovely additions that usually come with a fajita dinner were not all represented. I come here often, and i'm never disappointed with the service. In my opinion, one of the best in town. My younger brother orders his fountain drinks mixed in one glass. The stilo of the place is killer, and tacky all at once... give you something to look at, i'll tell you that. Anywise, I'm a big fan of the chipotle chicken... amazing! I took a party of 6 there once, and one of them ordered a hamburger. OBVIOUSLY he was the only one that was disappointed; but that's his own fault. ( Who orders a hamburger in a Mexican restaurant anyways?) I'm addicted to there salsa they have for you before ordering, the color of the chips are unique, and compliment the experience. Yummy food, generous portions, tasty if strangely colored tortilla chips, okay service. It's kinda dark in there but the food is really quite good so go for it! It's overpriced and the cheese, my Mexican traveling partner tells me, was not authentic. I recommend going for lunch since it's way way cheaper than the regular menu. When we walked in, the place was hot. We commented, and they said the air conditioning was all the way on. Should have left right then. I ordered the Pollo Crema. What I got was a huge glop of sour cream with a few chunks of chicken, peppers and mushrooms. I ate about three bites and then looked for a waitress. No one came to ask us how our meals were. We had to go get someone to tell them how bad the meal was. After another ten minutes the waitress came back to say they would take half off the meal I did not eat. I told them I did not think I should pay at all because it was so awful. By this time I was so hot my appetite was gone. They finally agreed to take the price off our bill. The menu can be a little pricey, but they back up their claim that the chicken mole is the best in town, and it's worth paying $15 for. Also recommended are the camarones a la crema or chipotle. Only went for lunch so this is a limited review. My biggest disappointment is that they did not have anything with mole sauce available at lunch. Would have liked to try it. Chips and salsa were very good but the rice and beans could have been better. Although this sometimes is a matter of taste. I would NOT recommend this place. Very over priced and food is greasy (practically swimming in oil) and has absoutely no flavor, I couldn't believe how bland everything was. Staff is friendly, but we had coupons and they made us sit at separate tables to use them. I love this place! been there only once and that was enough! My dad's side of the family is from Oaxaca and the times we've gone down to mexico we always love love love the mole they make. When my mom told me that this place tasted just like it did in Mexico home cooked i didn't believe her. went to Xochimilco Mexican Restaurant with the kiddos and asked before we sat down to eat if I was going to get a free drink because its my birthday If they would've said no than we could've just left and went to Tequilas' restaurant instead because I know fo sheezy that they do there so the lady told me yes then the waitress when I asked her she told me that I didnt get no free drinks but i could have a desert I told her look at me do I look like I need a desert..lol ayz i didnt say that but anyways the food was cold, I didnt get my free drink/desert or a pic next year i am going to Tequilas i give them a bad review sorry that's just how I feel. ;( read more
