This is a cute little gem in the east end of Beaches (by Beech Ave), seating is limited so I would recommend calling ahead for a larger party size. Service was great, it was run like a mom and pop shop , having been in the neighborhood for 13 years. Great recommendations were given and food came out quickly. The food was very tasty but be mindful the portion sizes vary so definitely take their advice on how many plates to get. Our top dishes were the Barbacoa (lamb) and Arrachera (beef tenderloin). I only have all praises for the food, presentation, and setting. I have gotten to try the Grasshopper Taco ($14), and they are such a treat. They are not as exotic as it looks to be. It came out crunchy, savoury, and a little bit of sour due to the complementary lime that comes with it. Another dish I have gotten to try was the Pollo en Pipian ($25.50). It was equally delectable, and good for around 6 or 7 individual portions. The order comes with about that much pieces of soft corn tortillas. The place's decor was properly decked out to properly match the Mexican theming of the restaurant. The lady who hosted us also offered very amiable service. She constantly was checking up on us and was friendly to chat a bit and share some interesting trivias about the food and overall culture of the whole dining experience. What fell short was that the location was small and they can only seat very few people at a time. They also do not have a waitlist sign sheet nor do they get your phone number and offer to call once a table is ready. Me and my companion had to wait outside in the cold for about 20 minutes before we were seated. We spent the time walking around and exploring The Beaches neighborhood. Another thing is that the food pricing is on the high-end side. It is good that the food taste, and presentation is equally up to par to match the price tag. It was alright but we had greater expectations. We were in the beaches area so dropped by for some Mexican food. The place isn't big, only three tables indoors and some patio seating outside. We were seated indoors. Ambience is relaxing and nice. Drinks are strong and lots of varieties of Margherita to choose from. For food we ordered the guacamole which had good flavour but had some large chunks of unripe avocado in it and cannot be mashed but seasoning is fresh and good. Shrimp ceviche is ok. It was a little spicy and tangy but shrimp was hard and taste over cooked. Wouldn't order again. Duck confit tacos were decent but the duck itself had no flavour. Beef adobo taco wasn't our fave. The meat was chunky and chewy and was a bit spicy. Not the typical beef taco profile I was going for. They are family run shop so it's nice to support local but it just wasn't my fave meal. They list their specialty on the chalkboard so maybe try those instead. read more

At first bite, this was a 5-star, but the flavors were just so rich that, by the end, I was wishing for something to cut the fat. Maybe a slice of lime? I ordered the lamb barbacoa, as I'm an enthusiast of Mexican braised meats. The mole it was in was wonderful, the lamb was deeply tender, the guacamole fresh, the potatoes crispy, and the tortillas soft. So that's all unfaultable. It was an excellent first impression. That said, lamb is already so rich that the guacamole was just too much fat. And while the refried beans were the smoothest I've ever had, neither that nor the oddly creamy red salsa was enough to cut all the fat. A more tomatoey salsa, or a lime slice, or something acidic, would have made it a more enduring meal. Prices are high, yeah, but that's The Beaches for you. read more

We love this place so much. The food is fresh, vibrant and flavourful. We ordered the guacamole that was a classic. The coconut milk ceviche and Sopa Azteca (traditional Mexican soup) were standouts. The Mole and Beef Adobo with soft tortillas were very rich and tasty. The drinks were impactful and made with fresh ingredients including fresh strawberries. Good Eats can be that simple and I love how Xola Mexican Food prepares their food. Fresh ingredients and with a touch of love, herbs and spices, Mexican Food is just that simple. The interior is small and cozy. We were here for a late brunch on a Sunday and there was no wait at all. Service can be a little slow as Xola is more like a family run and with only 1 chef and 1 server working here during our visit. We shared: Horchata ($3.50) - I never really into Horchata and I found their version not as nutty and creamy as I preferred - maybe adding rum to become Ronchata next time! Burrito Lamb ($8.95) - slow cooked pulled lamb was so soft and moist with a lot of flavour Fish Taco ($15) - fish has a nice and firm texture and the breading was so light and crispy! - love the spicy mayo, guacamoles, pickled cabbage and everything just go so well together! I came her few weeks ago. I straight up saw this lady (pretty sure the owner) handle cash/ scratch her head and touched the food right after. I Of course I only had a few bites and left the rest cause I was so grossed out. When I was paying for my bill, I let her know what I saw and she started giving racist quotes. "All the chinese places do the same thing", and walked away. I would have just left it and not think twice, but for them to say something like that, that is a big nono. It is pretty hard to find good Mexican food in Toronto ( at least veggie) and I'm not talking about the good ole beans and cheese on tortilla! Anyway, this restaurant is NOT in that "off the hook" food category. Dinner with hubby and child on a Friday evening was alright. This place is pretty small and can accommodate 18-20 people total in the restaurant, sitting is pretty tight. Service- mediocre, we had to ask for stuff every time as no one really "checked in" on us, excepted once towards the end. Price- comparable to other restaurants in the neighbourhood. I stopped by Xola during the Family Day long weekend and got their churros. They were ok but I was determined to give the place a fair chance to impress. Wow!!! Did it ever impress me! So here's the scoop: the place is as tiny as it gets, but comfortable. Depending on the time and day that you're stopping by it's very likely that you'll end up having to wait. The servers were all really nice and attentive. When my order took ages to arrive, (for God knows what reason as the place was still quiet when I arrived), the server brought a side order of homemade tortilla chips with guacamole and apologized for the delay. A simple but really nice gesture. The tortilla and guacamole were outstanding! And the taquito de calamare that I ordered was probably the best I ever had. It had the perfect balance of ingredients and flavours, leaving an incredible after taste in the mouth. The portions aren't big and it's a little on the pricey side compared to other food options on the Beach. With that said, I don't think I've encountered another place in the neighbourhood where the quality of the plate was so good! The quality of the food more than justifies the price. First real experience : as awesome as it gets! I know I'll become a regular, especially with Ed's Real Scoop next door and Chocolate across the street providing amazing dessert options. read more

Nice and cozy with friendly service. Dinner was good but not wow. We had Barbacoa de Borrego and Chocinita Pibli, both were good but you only get tortillas, a very small cup of beans and pineapple salsa. No rice. Both dinners were appetizer sized and priced $18-$20 each. For starters we had guacamole sampler which was excellent but definitely overpriced @ $18. Xola is definitely one of the better authentic Mexican restaurants around the beaches area (if not the only) This is the second time we came here. It's a small mom & pop restaurant and has great service and food. Ok so first off, this place is not your cheapest Mexican place, but you get what you pay for. But once you stack up the prices against other Mexican places like la carnita and Wilbur, it's actually pretty reasonable. Came here twice, once with just 2 people, and another time with 4. First time we just ordered bunch of apps, wings are awesome and the Baja taco was ok. The better experience was when we came with 4 pple. We ordered 3 apps (wings, app trio, and guac) to share and each person ordered a main for themselves. The apps were delicious. Guac was $11 and is around that price no matter where u go.. App trio was okay I would say..would have liked 1 more tacquitto in there. The mains were great. The 4 of us all ordered different things, they brought them out alongside with a container of fresh tortillas. They were even kind enough to bring out more tortillas when we were finished. We were stuffed when done. Bill including tax and tip came to about $35 a person. Pretty good if you ask me. Overall service was great. Came here upon invitation of my friend for his birthday dinner. Because the restaurant was tiny, we shut the place down for the night with 20-something people in our party. Happy to be there as the service was very good, the servers keeping up with the big crowd and I was in good company for the whole meal. I haven't even started with how the food tasted good and this comes from someone who is not such a big fan of tacos. Absolutely love this place! Me and my husband have been coming here for years. The staff is friendly and attentive and the food is delicious. The prices may shock you at first but all the produce and meat is well sourced and the portions are quite large so you really get what you pay for. We always make sure to try at least one new thing off the menu whenever we go and are never disappointed. The food is always fresh and bright and completely satisfying and the close, intimate setting always reminds us of my husband's mother's kitchen. A great hidden gem and a must try in the city. Our hungry selves found Xolas after a walk along the beach. The overall vibe was inviting and cheerful. We only had to wait a few mins to get the table by the window. There's something about this place that catches your eye because as we ate many people stopped to check the menu and I felt like telling them to just come in!
