It was a very confusing explanation but from what I gathered, one of the veggie options along with guacamole that they usually put inside this burrito is no longer a thing. i give xolo 3 stars - they are usually well worth the extra cash in the taste and quality ... but not always. which is why they are a-ok with me. their burritos are delcious and satisfying - and not stuff you so full you will pass out - big. the churritos are also very delcious - when they are not overcooked - which we have had on a few occassions. the girl behind the counter should really not be in a customer facing role - her service skills are really not very accomodating. read more

Got carne asada burrito overall it was a 7 good flavors the only this was customer service is awful I told the girl exactly what I wanted in my burrito twice I get it and theres onion mix .. ok fine I pick it out.. I'm half way thru my burrito no sour cream my bf goes to ask the older man for a lil side of sour cream the man tells him go pay for it my bf tells him u theres none in the burrito then the man tells him there is some in the burrito my bf walks away then the man comes to give me some I show him the burrito he says she said she put some in there he seemed bothered because we asked for sour cream r u kidding me even .. first place he shuda just happily gave us a lil side of sour cream it's not a big deal its customer service to do so.. yes I left my burrito open when I left so they could see there was none.. For a cute neighborhood taqueria, Xolo does a nice job. It's bright, colorful and they do serve up some decently delicious tacos. We had the little monster with us (dog) so we sat in their little patio out back. We ordered 6 tacos- 2 al pastor, 2 carnitas and 2 shrimp. My go-to meat carnitas is always tastiness-packed. The shrimp ones were a big hit too! They're light fried and very tender. Add a little hot sauce and squeeze a bit of lime juice and you're ready to stuff yourself ... just don't get any of that neon orange oil on your face. We finished the meal off with some Mexican donuts (small bits of churro dancing in sugar and cinnamon). They were freshly made, steaming and crispy. Bueno! The reason this is a 3-star, technically 3.5 star rating is that it was a bit pricey. 6 tacos, a beer plus chips and salsa cost $26. For $26 I want to be stuffed like a Thanksgiving turkey... especially if it's Mexican food!!! Someone had mentioned small burritos. I did see some other people order burritos and they did look small, which adds to my point. read more

The inflated price complaints are true. Still, when you've had a few too many drinks at the Fox theater, and you're looking for a quick meal before hopping on the BART back home, it ain't that bad. If you're like me at that point, a few extra dollars isn't a big deal. Just remember you won't get burrito truck size portions and you'll be alright. read more

Never been to this spot before and I must say it's pretty nice. The food is yumi and restaurant decorations is very arty and hip. I like how specious the atmosphere is inside and the organization of tables and chairs. I got arty feel eating which made me feel at home and comfortable. They only thing is the food comes in very small portions which makes it a bit too pricy for the size. I have eaten many burritos in my life and by far Xolo's was the smallest one. read more

Xolo taqueria is so good, Xolo Taqueria is so fine, if you can't tell I'm singing. Everything has a different edge, its what makes it stand out from every other taqueria I have ever been to. Not only is everything here pretty tasty, but they have this hot sauce that I can't get enough of, it has a brown wrapper and of course if I could remember it, I would list it here. my husband ordered me a chile verde burrito, but they gave me a chile relleno burrito instead. so so gross to get a surprise mouthful of grease and extremely sugary breading when i expected pork and green sauce. worse even, since we got it as takeout, it's not like i could just take it back. guys, get the orders right. that was a supremely horrible experience. still three stars for typically being pretty darn tasty, but blech. read more

This place is a gem. Every time I go to Art Murmur in Oakland I stop in here for shrimp tacos before heading back into the city. It never takes long to get your food and it is a perfect night cap after a few beers. Highly recommend. I'm sure it tastes good sober in the day time as well. read more

This is the most expensive Mexican joint I've been to but you get served fairly quickly. The food is tasty but is $$ for the portions that you get. The tacos are not worth the $4. My favorite item is the fresh cinnamon churros. So sweet and crispy. The frescas are a disappointment and lack authenticity. I come here regularly for lunch with coworkers. The service is always fast and the food is consistent and delicious. I almost always order the pollo burrito. I like how their aren't a bunch of customization choices to make - it's just good the way they make it. Also the burritos are a good size. I honestly love coming here for the impossible tacos but the customer service sucks. The guy with long hair at the register has a bad attitude and doesn't even greet you, saw him open a wine bottle and drink on the job. Him and the other guy at the register both eating behind the register as we were waiting to order. Then you have to pay for chips and salsa no big deal right except they give you a little cup of salsa and I asked the server/bus boy for extra salsa and he said you have to pay for extra and laughed at us. Well, we waited for 40 minutes for our 3 burritos. We tried to disappear into the wall in the crowded waiting area as staff zipped around us, paid 10 bucks each for the burritos, and they were... good. Not great, but good. Convenient location across from the fox, good depth off flavor in the pork (but quite a few big hunks of untrimmed fat), although portions are quite small. I would probably pick one up if I was in the area and the line wasn't long, but wouldn't go out of my way for the food. read more

I had the hongos taco with grilled mushrooms, cheese, and some other veggies. It was very good, nicely seasoned. The best part was the flavor of the corn tortillas (homemade?). I had a side of half rice, half black beans (pureed and really tasty). I enjoyed all of it, not sure why this place has received some bad reviews. They have a great menu, nice variety. Vegetarians have some decent options, esp. considering how small the menu is, including soup and salad. I like how you can order just one taco. I prefer this place over most of the other mediocre Mexican places in the neighborhood that use crappy ingredients and don't even know what a good corn tortilla is. Well, I'm in love with this place! While some of the reviews complain of the size of the burritos lets just say you aren't going hungry by ordering one! The burritos are packed with the good stuff! It's not the size of your arm packed with random grade E meat and rice. They have fresh, well thought out ingredients that leave you satisfied. The Machaca burrito is moist and flavorful and the chicken burrito is delicious with black beans, tomatoes, guacamole, and juicy flavorful chicken. I've also had the vampiro tacos, how can you go wrong with fried cheese and pork? I am a fan of the tababaya salad. The dressing is light and zesty and the pumpkin seeds and avocado give it a great contrasting texture! Finally, they have these perfectly textured mexican brownies. The sugar is crystalized just so in them and the chocolate is light. They have a light crisp on the outside with a soft inside. I wish I could duplicate this at home! read more

Xolo Taqueria has become a staple of my weekly lunch outings and it among one of the more consistant places I've found in Oakland's thriving uptown/Fox Theater district. Full disclosure: I'm so taken with their tacos I haven't bothered to move on to anything else on the menu, which is plentiful. Their beef tacos are the only well-made crunchy-shell tacos I've found in town, while their camarones, pollo and vampiro tacos are all excellent soft-tortilla variations on the standard proteins. Any combination of these makes for a really great face-stuffing experience. There are plenty of other offerings to round out a group visit - the enormous Mexican brownie is a favorite of mine - so I'd also recommending visiting Xolo before a show at any of the nearby theaters. Personally, I'll continue making it one of my favorite lunch stops for a long while. read more

Sat upstairs, which provided a nice view of the crowd lining up to go to a concert at the Fox Theater. Seems like a great pre-show meal spot! And affordable too! Lots of seating and very airy.
