Papi's shares the kitchen space with Gee's BBQ, so you get the same friendly service, quick turnaround, and fresh, quality food--but with a completely different flavor profile. And one of the things I really appreciated is that the Papi's side has indoor, air-conditioned seating, which is especially nice when you're visiting on a hot Southern California day. We ordered a pretty wide variety: birria tacos, rice and beans, a Jamaica agua fresca, an asada taco, a birria quesadilla, and two keto tacos--one chicken and one birria. The birria tacos were excellent. Tender, flavorful beef, plenty of cheesy goodness, and that rich consommé for dipping. Birria is clearly one of Papi's specialties, and it shows--the current menu describes the birria as slow-cooked for six hours and served with cheese, onion and cilantro. The birria quesadilla was another winner. Basically all the things that make birria tacos great, but in a big, cheesy, crispy quesadilla. Definitely something I'd order again. The carne asada taco was also really good--simple, flavorful and satisfying. And I have to give Papi's extra credit for the keto tacos. These aren't prominently featured on the in-store menu, but they can be found online, and they're a great option if you're looking for something lower-carb without having to settle for a boring meal. We tried both chicken and birria, and both were delicious. The rice and beans made for a great accompaniment, and the Jamaica agua fresca was exactly what I wanted alongside all that savory food--refreshing, lightly sweet and a great complement to the tacos. And then there's the overall value. The pricing is very reasonable for the quality and portions, especially considering how much variety you can get. Papi's is the kind of place where everyone in the family can find something they want, whether that's tacos, quesadillas, birria, sides or something a little different like the keto options. I also really like the setup here. Having Papi's Tacos & Churros and Gee's BBQ right next to each other, sharing a kitchen space, is actually a fantastic arrangement for families or groups with different cravings.
