This is stop number five on arriving back to New York City from being away for about a week. I was craving pizza. In the area and winging it with what's near by. I briefly read the reviews of my fellow Yelpers. Saw the decent reviews. The pie looked decent, not stale. But before that: name looked cheesy-no matter, seating is basic local joint seating. I order based on the pie behind the counter looked gooey. It is! This place serves a good plain slice for $2.30 - gooey, stringy cheese. Crust like a very good local pizza place. The ones I new back when I was a kid where I had an old Italian guy making the pizza. It's really good and the size is not Xtra big or anything but not small, it was large enough for my approval. Sauce is tasty and amount balances out right with the gooey stringy cheese. The pizza is hot, very much so, be warned it's a hot tasty slice. You know in psychology where you learned about figure-ground perception. The figure-Xtra Cheese Pizzeria. The ground- dominos pizza and pizza hut a block away. The end result- that pizza from Xtra is looking real good. A pizza pie from Xtra would be decent in comparison to shops in Manhattan and Brooklyn. But when you put this pizza in Flushing NY and next to commercial chains, you get that WOW factor. The pizza is 3.5 IMO. The pizza could use more tomato sauce. Family friends of mine have been going to this pizza shop run by two affable brothers for decades, and I've been introduced to Xtra [X-tra] Cheese just in the last few years but I'm digging it as much as they do. Shockingly, I've actually never had their pizza, but Xtra Cheese makes a mean chicken parm which is what we typically get. It's a decent size, with lots of sauce and chicken, and the bread has a pleasant crispiness to the crust. I've had the meatball which was good too but the chicken parm is my fave of the two. I definitely plan on sampling some of the other offerings next time I'm in Flushing! read more

I swear by this place, Joes an amazing guy (I think that's his name ) most of the times he's tossing dough like a cool guy and for the simplistic ease it takes for me to enjoy such things he gave me a show once with my younger brother and his wife. The service is impeccable, th pizza is tasty and piping hot when you get it. The garlic powder is to die for in my opinion and the family homey environment that he provides takes the toppings and throws them in any chain places face. Always fun to go. The pizza... Xtra cheese is a place that lives up to their name. The pizza is delicious and so is their pasta. Tip: If you get the baked ziti, make sure you ask them to add ricotta! They'll add small pockets of ricotta cheese into the baked ziti so every time you get a bit of ricotta, it's like a prize! It's a small place on northern and unless you're searching for this place, chances are is that you won't see it or you'll pass by it. The place is very small, however they do take out. Their Pizza is very good but what I really love is the spaghetti with marinara sauce. They saute the garlic till it disappears and then add their special tomato sauce to the pan and top the spaghetti with it. So good and so garlicky! read more

Pizza is a very personal thing. Some people are into deep dish and other like it extra greasy. Some like more tomato sauce and others want more cheese. Whatever the combination is at Extra Cheese though is what I've found to be my favorite. They make it with just enough tomato sauce and cheese without an oily, greasy crust. The crust is crispy but still fluffy on the inside. It doesn't make you feel gross afterwards even after several slices! The people are friendly and the atmosphere makes you think of Cheers, a local neighborhood bar where everybody knows your name, except it's not a bar it's a pizzeria and not everybody knows your name. I've always said if i have to eat one thing every day it would be pizza. Xtra cheese pizza would one of the many pizzerias that i'd be ordering from. It's not the best pizza that i've ever had but it's definitely good pizza. There are some basic components of good pizza. crunchy and chewy crust, sweet and tangy sauce, and creamy and salty cheese. Not only did they arrive at the exact agreed time - The food was fabulous & reasonably priced. Everyone loved it ! Especially the sauce - & 2 people had grown up in Italy! I had ordered salad - Baked Ziti - lasagne - eggplant parmigiana - chicken parmigiana. & the trays were huge & packed full. It came with 4 loaves of bread salad dressing plates napkins cups forks Everything you could need for a work party. So much cheese on every tray that people remarked on it. I've settled on Extra Cheese as my pizza delivery spot. It's my favorite "standard" pizza joint; the pizza tastes great and it's inexpensive. Not too much cheese, too much sauce or too much grease and oil; they've found a really nice balance in my opinion. A large pie is $15 and a one-topping is $17. I really like their sicilian pie, but their regular pie is good too. Topping-wise, I enjoy their meatball pizza the most. Owner is racist. I'm Asian. I sat down on the other side of the table that an old white male in his 80s was sitting on. The old man said something about and the owner said that, "you could sit at the other tables." That statement comes directly from the fact that the old man was white and I was Asian. What year is this? Why would the owner make a suggestion like that? The old white male moved to the other tables clearly not wanting to see an Asian face and said something like, "only the hippies sit on the left side (the side he was sitting on after he moved). He doesn't know what a hippie is." I then told the owner about the situation saying the old man was rude. He went on to defend the old man that he was just joking. Came here two nights in a row. The first night was so good I actually had to come back. I was visiting from out of town and appreciated finding such a friendly group of people not only working there, but the other customers were friendly as well. I came to United States from Korea in 1990 and I used to live in 149Pl for about 10 years before moving further south of Flushing then to Fresh Meadows, but still this is my favorite pizza store, still go there at least once a month. You must try their Xtra Cheese House Special (large pie with everything on it! no anchovies though, not that they carry it, but they had it on their menu). I'm not picky with toppings and neither is my family so the first time we tried their special, we immediately fell in love with it. I'm guessing not a lot of people order their house special because sometimes when I call beforehand to pick it up, they sound surprised. I introduced this place to my church members and told them about the special and they went bonkers. Even to this day, my fiancé who I dated for 8 years still tells me, "I can't believe you didn't tell me about this place earlier." From the outside, this place just might seem like another local pizzeria, but it's not. The lengthy tall dude and the stockier dude that makes these pizzas have been making pizzas here even before I came to the U.S! My favorite are their (of course) Xtra Cheese House Special Large Pie with Everything on it and Meatball Parm on a hero. If I could give them 10 stars I would. Simply the best pizza ever! read more

I was searching for a pizza delivery a little after 10PM on Friday night and found this place on yelp. This place close at 11PM so I wasn't sure if they would actually take my order but they were so nice to take my order although it would be close to the closing time and I don't live too close by. I called backed 5 minutes before their closing time to make sure they were coming and the guy on the phone explain the delivery guy would come drop off my pizza on his way home after they close. 5 star customer service for that. And the delivery guy that came even apologized to me for being late and I was so so happy and thankful to get my pizza at that late hour. Their pizza is really good also. This is really the only option for pizza delivery in the area besides dominoes or pizza hut but the good news is that it's pretty good.
