We walked back out and found the door to the restaurant. Staff is warm and friendly and we were seated quickly. Our server was Robert and he was great! He gave his recommendations for which sides would go best with our meals and I felt they were spot on. They give complimentary bread and butter. It was warm and delicious. Hubby ordered the rib tips with fries, baked beans, and had the hot and mild barbecue sauce on the side. I ordered the 1/2 dark smoked chicken dinner with mac-n-cheese, spicy Cajun green beans, and spicy honey garlic barbecue sauce. I agree with Robert, that the sauce pairs very well with the chicken. The tips were tender and falling off the bone. He didn't care for the fries and loved the baked beans, even though they were a bit too spicy for him. My chicken was also very tender and I enjoyed the smokiness. The green beans had the right amount of spice although they were not as spicy as the baked beans. The mac-n-cheese was creamy. We were too full to order dessert. Maybe next time. This is a great neighborhood staple and will definitely be back.

La Cocina De Mama is one of the popular places to drink and eat along this particular stretch. Far from authentic. They focus more on look and taste. Came in and got seats at the bar. It's about $12 for a burrito. Menu has a good amount to choose from. I got the Vegetariano Burrito. This has beans, cheese which I left off, lettuce, rice, and tomatoes. Filling. We arrived around 4 pm and there was about a 25 minute wait. It is cozy so there were people waiting outside. The decor is more modern than traditional. They have a bar and TVs. Staff are warm and friendly and our server was Dulce. It was a busy day yet she would periodically check in to see how we were doing. We ordered the table side guacamole. It was made fresh at our table and hubby added a little more salt to it. We were also served a small bowl of salsa. The chips are warm and fresh. Hubby ordered the combo fajitas and a strawberry margarita. I ordered the steak enchiladas rojas and a pina colada. Everything was seasoned well and we enjoyed our meals. Kudos to the bartender for making great drinks!

I got the Fish Dinner Tacos ($25), and my husband got Flautas de Papa ($18). I was eyeballing their Pozole or Menudo but didn't really want to pay $22 for a bowl of soup. Everything on the menu just felt too expensive, especially for being in a casual atmosphere outside the city. Quesadilla La Reina del Sur has a plethora of vegan tacos you can get for like $4 each. I was in the mood for dessert, but even something as simple as 2 cookies with milk would be $24, so we went elsewhere. The food was fine, and the service was fairly attentive, but nothing blew me out of the water for these prices. They also added a 3.5% fee to the bill.

I loved that we were given some recommendations on favorite dishes. -The vegan calamari (made with cocunut meat) was perfect: breaded just right and crisp. -The Fresca (watermelon & cayenne ) was perfect. 3.5 stars for: Our main entrees lacked seasoning. I was really surprised by this. Both of our dishes were extremely light on any seasoning. We both decided to take the rest home to add some garlic/ chiles/ sea salt ... maybe? However the presentation was appealing, food tasted really fresh and cooked right. We spent approx $160... that's including the 20 % tip and tax.

I sat there so long without being greeted that the owner himself stopped by and ended up waiting my table. I was wondering what that was all about! I knew it wasn't the norm for the owner to be waiting tables. My brother and I both had the "cigar" chicken and waffles. Funny thing is it doesn't actually come with a cigar lol. All the items are ala carte. Coffee is mediocre. The restaurant is pretty and clean. I especially loved the outdoor space underneath the pergola. I would have to come here again on a day where the weather is playing nice.

The place is very busy so parking can be a bit hard to find but they do have an overflow lot. Inside, they have a seating area where you can wait until you're seated at a table. Both times I've been there the wait time was around 20-30 minutes but trust me, the food is worth the wait. Even though they were busy, our server was attentive and the food didn't take too long to come out. I went with a group and for our appetizer we tried the platter that comes with hummus, baba ganoush, grape leaves, and fresh pita bread. For my drink, I had the lemon mint smoothie...very refreshing. The plates that my husband and I got were the chicken shawarma sandwich with a salad and the filet plate that comes with rice as well as grilled tomato and grilled onion. They give you generous portions which made it possible for me to share some of my meal with someone in my group to try and I still had leftovers. Finally, we could not leave without having dessert. We had knafeh which is made fresh. Everything was amazing and I can't wait to come back next time I visit the Chicagoland area.

I felt the entire meal was just OK. The corned beef hash was crumbly and though I was told it was made in house, it didn't seem like it. The hash browns and eggs were cooked fine but lacked seasoning. The pancakes were too thick and even though I paid $3.50 more for blueberries, they were hard to find within the actual pancake. The majority of blueberries were placed on top or around the pancakes. My sister's banana foster French toast was the best thing I tasted, so kudos to the cook for that dish. Otherwise, everything else we felt was just average and the prices were above average. My son's strawberry lemonade was $6, and it was fountain lemonade with a strawberry puree syrup added to the glass. Everything added up quickly to $100 for three of us so watch what you order and add on to your meal. I wouldn't return but it was a nice place aesthetically and location-wise. Also, our server Erica was quite pleasant and attentive.
