I ordered falafel, I've never had traditional falafel before, I was a little surprised when I got my order. I'm was very pleased with the taste, a little different from what I had had in the past. PHENOMENAL!!!! I live in downtown Chicago, but was in Bridgeview one weekend, and stopped by this restaurant because I love Turkish food. I had such a pleasant experience the first time that I can back again, and food/service was even better, which I didn't think was possible! Service was slow as I stood at the door way waiting to be seated. After a few minutes an employee shows up and seats me. I waited for the rest of my guests for a total of 7 people. We order a few appetizers and begin to eat. I asked for plates but by the time he brought them the main food platters were already being brought to the table. Again very slow service. Had to ask for water several times. The restaurant had a bunch of people inside with only two waiters. Two waiters is not enough, at least not with the pace these two were working at. Food tasted good. Presentation was good. Menu said two skewers but I only got one. It was long but the description said two skewers and I only got one. Salads were good, cheese bread was good, tea and dessert were good. Service was below mediocre, the waiter never smiled which is normal given their Turkish heritage. I visited Turkey and no one smiles there. Not sure if it's because they think they are better than Arabs or maybe it's genetics. I get up to pay and at the bottom of the screen it says 20% service fee. Usually when there's a group of 5 and more there's an automatic 18% gratuity fee applied to ensure the waiter gets a decent tip from running around assisting all the guests. Not here. 20% service fee is for the owner, then you can leave an additional 20% tip for the waiter. I paid and left a tip. I will never come to this restaurant ever again or any restaurant that does this. I hope the 20% service fee was worth never having me or my guests ever visit your establishment ever again. I will make sure I let everyone know not to come to this restaurant ever again just like the hookah lounge EL Beirut on 111th, they did the same thing and any restaurant that does this will never see me again. It's a shame really. I am trying my best to give my community my money and business but it feels like every place is shoving down my throat these hidden fees or they don't care and just want to make money now. Al-bawadi wouldn't take a gift card I received from a family member because they said it was over a year old. That's another worthless establishment I go out of my way to tell people to go elsewhere. I recently discovered this restaurant in the Bridgeview area. It is slightly hard to find as it is located at a very busy intersection. Parking is available, but can be tight. I loved the ambiance. Its giving Turkish series local restaurant when the main character is in need of some alone time and is about to sing a traditional Turkish song. There is indoor and outdoor seating, bathrooms are clean (there is a bidet), and the overall decor is flattering. The menu is traditional and extensive, but slightly overpriced. The day I dined in, they were out of so many items, so my friend and I opted for the Haydari (Turkish labne) and a Sucuklu Pide (sausage and cheese baked flat bread) for our appetizers. The pide IS HUGE; can definitely feed up to 3-4 people. The appetizers were delicious! The Haydari was creamy and nutty! For our mains, we tried the doner wraps (chicken and the lamb and beef). The lamb and beef was extremely tender, saucy, and seasoned really well. The chicken was alright, but slightly dry. We also ordered ayran and that paired really well with our meal. Palace Istanbul is located at a busy intersection, and the parking isn't great. The interior is relatively nice, though, albeit small. We ordered iskander kebab, lahmacun, and fries. They also offered a complimentary cup of Turkish tea. The desserts looked amazing, but we didn't try any. The iskander kebab was fantastic. The meat was plentiful and flavorful with the tomato sauce and yogurt, and the soft bread crumbs sopped up the flavors superbly. The lahmacun was decent, but not as good as A Thousand Tales. I usually go to Al Bawadi but I wanted to try a new place in the area. Service was very friendly and my server gave me a couple of free samples from the case. The decor is nice. I tried the hummus and pita, chicken, rice, baklava, and turkish delight. I liked the garlic sauce and pepperoncini, red sauce was a little too spicy for me. I did not know there were onions on the salad, so I did not eat it. And I will say that the baklava was a different taste than I am used to, not quite for me, but I am sure others will like it. Unfortunately, this place did not impress myself or my group. We came in to try this place for the first time and it will be our last. The service ruined the experience before the food even came out. The waiter was a young man with no social skills whatsoever. He looked like he hated being there, not friendly, not welcoming. We started with a few appetizers. We were never given individual plates, serving spoons, or refills of water. We asked several times, would get an "ok", then nothing would happen. We had to use the bread as a serving spoon to scoop the dips, then hurry and put it in our mouths before it spilled bc no plates or spoons were provided. Is that not the bare minimum?! Then we ordered entrees that specifically included 2 skewers, but we each received only one skewer on our plates. We don't send food back or complain for fear that the food is tampered with for sending it back so we kept quiet. Then at the end, at the bottom of the bill was a 20% fee added to the bill. The server did not notify us about this, we just happened to get a good look at the receipt. We asked the server if it was an included tip and he said, no it's a service fee that goes to the owner alone. Hmm...I guess the owner is not making enough money from owning the restaurant that he/she wants to include fees?! There's also a 3.5% fee for using credit cards to pay. So in total: 20% owner fee + 20% tip + 3.5% credit card fee=43.5% total fees for crappy service and food. No problem. We paid the bill, gave an undeserving tip to the waiter, and will never be back there again. read more

Cozy restuarant and very customer-friendly. The owner checked on us a few times and was humble to greet us. When I visit a restuarant, I care about quality of food, taste of food, cleanliness of restuarant, and customer service. On our visit here, this restuarant gets the best marks on all of these. Came here on a Sunday and it wasn't too packed and the server took the order right away. We ordered few appetizers and few entrees for 4 people. 45 minute passes and the appetizer is still not here. I tell the server that I don't want my dinner and appetizer together. She said since both the entree and appetizer are hot dishes, it's taking some time. Since we were waiting for so long, she brought the salad and some hummus/baba ganoush mix while we waited. I asked if we can get bread or Pita for the hummus and 10 minutes later they brought cold bread. Finally an hour later the the appetizers came, lahmacun and Ezme. The appetizers were the best part of the dinner and only giving 3 stars because of how good the appetizers were. Then later the entrees came one by one but we were rushed to eat it because the table was so small and it wouldn't fit the two entrees...we even asked for a bigger table earlier but they said they didn't have any. The entrees were okay, probably wouldn't try it again. Their dessert Knafeh was also good and fresh. I would only come back for the appetizers and dessert and definitely will not dine in ever again, will do carry out or delivery or something. The service was just horrible and so disorganized. Unfortunately the service was horrible. It took an extremely long time (about 45 mins) for us to receive our food even though we were the only one dining in there. We were not given any explanation or updates so we had to keep asking. They also forgot parts of our order so we had to keep following up and ended cancelling our dessert order. I've been to every Turkish restaurant in Chicagoland, always eager to support new restaurants from my homeland. However, my visit to Istanbul Palace/Istanbul Kebab House compels me to share a disappointing experience, marking the first time I've felt compelled to leave a negative review. I went to this restaurant with my husband who is an American with a deep appreciation for Turkish cuisine, we entered the restaurant only to be met with silence from the staff. There were three people behind the register. One waiter, I don't know what the other lady does and the owner. There was no acknowledgment from any of them. So I asked the waiter if we can get a table. After securing a table, we waited an extended period of waiting for our menus that never came. There were only one more table other than us. So me and husband discussed what we are going to eat without the menus. We always get the same dishes anyways. Beyti or iskender and lahmacuns. So we decided on beyti and lahmacun since we saw alot of posts about beyti in this restaurant. Then I called the waiter over, she grabs menus for us. I said we don't have to look, we ll just get beyti and 3 lahmacuns and 2 cokes. Beyti was not an traditional version that we usually get wherever we go in unites states or in turkey. It was with gyro meat and cheese insideit resembled a Turkish inspired quesadilla rather than the authentic dish. It was not their fault though, because i guess in the menu it does have a description of beyti. So that was on us. We should've read the menu but we were done waiting. Beyti did taste good and delicious. But i wouldn't call that Beyti. We asked for our cokes again and reminded them. When the owner brings the lahmacun, he did not bring any parsley, lemon, onions, sumac. Those are the garnishes that you are suppose to serve with lahmacun. You can not serve lahmacun without lemon. So the owner asks me if we want any greens, garnishes with lahmacun. I was shocked and confused by this question. So i sad maybe lemons, and my husband asked for little bit of onions. He comes to the table with a sliced whole onion, little bit of sumac on top and two slices of lemon. Lahmacun did not taste good. We couldn't even eat it. It had a bad taste. They should not survive this lahmacun to anyone. I asked for the check and to go cup. I couldn't believe what I saw on the receipt, they charged me almost 6$ for the onions and called it as onion salad. It was literally a whole onion that was sliced, little bit sumac on top. That onion probably doesn't even cost them 40cents. I didn't want to say anything there. I should've have. I was embarrassed to say something, but he was not embarrassed to charge me that! He definitely took an advantage of us and charged us. And the sad part is that it was the owner. I came home and read the menu and it says lahmacun comes with those garnishes with free of charge. After leaving there, we said we would never come back. I talked to couple of my friends they said they got the same treatment from them. So service is 0/5. Food 2/5. I wish the owner read the bad reviews that people have been posting on Google and yelp months ago, so I didn't have to experience such a horrible experience and write a review like this. Clearly he does not understand how to run a restaurant with customers. If you guys are looking for a turkish restaurants there are plenty of others everywhere. They are all good. We traveled from Milwaukee, almost 2 hours, and will not be going back to this restaurant. The people who worked at the restaurant, sans the busboy who seemed to be doing the job of 5 people, were rude, forgot about the tables they were waiting on, and let their stress and bad moods get the best of them. I was asked to go wait in my car as they were still getting a table ready for my parents and I, and I politely declined. A party that came right after me did end up waiting in their car (because they had small children) and were promptly forgotten about and waited an extra 45 minutes. My parents and I were able to listen to the interaction between the forgotten party and host because we were seated by the door, and the host kept repeating that tables were reserved and that they couldn't be seated. To reiterate; I would not recommend this restaurant. The atmosphere, workers, and food aren't worth it. The fake flowers and greenery around the restaurant are cute, though. read more
