Fresh Food, Warm Hearts, and Worth the Wait I stumbled upon Yagul while visiting Solana Salons nearby, and I'm so glad I did. This was my second visit, and it confirmed exactly why I came back. The food is fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. On my first visit, I enjoyed a traditional breakfast burrito with fresh fruit and café de olla, and everything was delicious. On my most recent visit, I was reminded once again why this little spot stands out. Their fresh juices and smoothies are excellent, and the beans and rice taste homemade, which is something you don't find everywhere these days. What really makes Yagul special is the people. The woman who helped me may be the owner, but either way, you can see the pride and passion she has for the food and the guests. She, along with the rest of the staff, was incredibly kind and welcoming. Everyone greeted guests with a smile and made you feel at home. One thing to keep in mind is that your food may not arrive in five minutes, and that's a good thing. They're preparing fresh food, not fast food. The extra few minutes are well worth the wait. Yagul is one of those small, family-style restaurants that can easily be overlooked, but once you find it, you'll want to come back. If you're looking for authentic Oaxacan food, warm hospitality, and food made with heart, this place is absolutely worth a visit. read more

This place is truly the definition of a hidden gem -- I have no idea how I never heard of it! They probably have the best breakfast burritos in town.The tortilla tasted super high-quality and homemade, the sausage was perfectly cooked and seasoned, and even the potatoes were cooked exactly right (and I'm picky about potatoes). The sauces and juicy beans added the perfect balance to everything. The service was super friendly and professional, the ambiance was lovely, and the music outside added a really nice touch. So let me start off by saying that I do not give 5 stars out easily. It's rare when I do. I need to be blown away to give 5 stars, and this was 10 stars!!!! When I tell you I felt like I was eating a home cooked meal in someone's house, I'm so serious. This place was delicious. The fish taco was the best I've ever had. Along with the already best meat tacos I've had. Horchata was incredible again, and the addition of the prickly pear sorbet was excellent. The sorbet trio were all hits, with the leche being my favorite. It was very similar to an Italian ice, but the best. 4.7/5 Yagul cafe is in my top 5 restaurants of all time. We had a fantastic experience at Yagul! We went on a Wednesday morning, there were a few people in but our service was fast and friendly. We both got the house coffee and the breakfast burrito, and both were DELICIOUS. They also brought us an array of salsas to try - all were fresh and so tasty. Our server Lorenzo was super friendly and helpful, and even gave me a to-go cup for my coffee without me asking! Our entire bill was $47 before tip - definitely great value. We love Yagul. We've had a breakfast and lunch here. Had the Hueveos Rancheros and Memelitas for breakfast. Both were excellent. For lunch had the Mole Enchiladas and Queso Fundido. The Queso had great flavor with the Chorizo and the Mole was also excellent. A bit of a surprise here is the fresh juices they make. Love the green juice. Whoah. The breakfast burrito photos do not do the good justice. One of the best and likely underrated breakfast burritos on the west side, and it doesn't leave you feeling full and about to burst. The gentleman behind the counter was incredibly nice and the food came out fresh, hot and delicious, I can't describe it. The burrito has the perfect ratio of everything with a little pico de gallo sprinkled in. The flavors are great and the hot sauce adds a ton of flavor without making you have any regrets. read more

We just stopped by for drinks, but trust we'll be back for more. Came here early on a weekday and it was mostly empty. Staff was extremely welcoming & patient with us. House coffee w/Oaxacan chocolate - Top 5 decisions of my entire life. Not too sweet, and the chocolate was a great addition to the hot drink. Only thing is, when it started cooling down, the chocolate became a little chunkier. Normal stuff. I really enjoyed this. Shrimp fajitas - yummy! Awesome Oaxacan breakfast and lunch spot in Santa Monica. It's run by the same family behind Quiadaiyn in Mar Vista, one of the best Oaxacan restaurants on the Westside. I'm thrilled that another good Oaxacan spot is open on this side of town. Yagul Cafe opens at 6 am on weekdays / 8 am weekends and does a good amount of breakfast business. My favorite breakfast dish is the Chilaquiles al Campo, pairing chilaquiles with eggs scrambled with your choice of either chorizo or chicken sausage. The El Campesino is a great combination of a fried egg over a tamal stuffed with peppers and cheese. Eliseo's Scramble with chicken sausage is tasty, as is the unique Enfrijoladas de Tasajo -- beef strips covered in a black bean sauce. They serve a huge tasty cup of Mexican coffee, which they happily refill. Lunch dishes are good as well. The tlayuda is my favorite lunch item, a corn tortilla the size of a medium pizza topped with asiento, black bean sauce, cabbage, quesillo, avocado, tomato, salsa and your choice of tasajo, cecina and/or chorizo. It feeds two. The Mole Enchiladas are excellent thanks to the tasty mole coloradito. I'm glad that Yagul Cafe opened here a couple years ago, it's convenient and the early hours are great for early birds. The staffers are pleasant, courteous and fast. It's like a pared down version of Quiadaiyn, and it's great for that, but Quiadaiyn is open for dinner, offers a more extensive menu throughout the day (5 moles!), and would be my pick if I lived near there. Nonetheless, this is a very good addition to the Santa Monica dining scene. read more

Yagul Cafe is a family owned and operated cafe, very traditional food! My favorite are the Memelas with tazajo (steak) and pork, it's always freshly made and it makes a difference! Fresh squeezed orange juice is always available parking can de a little difficult during busy hours but definitely worth to try!! read more

It had a slight taste of spice that made it unique. Unfortunately, the banana bread was extremely dry. For that I would like to only takeoff half a point, but that is not possible.
