Good service, everyone was happy, Welcomed as soon as we entered. This is an order at the kiosk type place, look at the menu and be ready to order. No rush though, they were nice. Yum yum sauce isn't exactly how we're used to but it was thick and worked well with our meal. We ordered two dumplings and two orders of steak hibachi (medium). Dumplings are ok, nothing special. Sadly we forgot to order without mushrooms and our meal was more mushrooms and onions than steak. The zucchini were tiny slivers smothered in onions. Steak was good, not a prime cut but the steak hibachi was only $12.50 though. The veggies could have been grilled longer. Pretty clean, unisex bathroom, you pick your own table. Didn't see anyone wipe tables down after customers left. This place really reminds me of express food at the mall food court . Fast casual. There were a few times where we overheard the employees curse, someone dropped the F word pretty loudly. Not against it just not appropriate in a work setting especially with children present. I was first customer of day and greeted as soon as I came in. They explained I could eat in but you order at register first. I was given the menu and not rushed as it was my first time here. Friends had given me some ideas of what to order so I looked at menu picked soft shell crab for appetizer and dirty old man sushi roll.. they have variety of yummy sauces by the drinks on counter.. self serve. I went to bathroom to wash my hands and must say I was impressed by how nice and clean and updated it was. I got back to table just in time get my tray of food. I ordered to-go combination steak and shrimp $12.50) and the dirty old man special roll sushi 8 pieces, $15.50). They were on time with the food when I arrived. They both were great and flavorful. The steak and shrimp were tender and the sushi tasted fresh. The combination meal came with fried plain white rice, sautéed onion slices, broccoli, mushroom, and zucchini. The only negative thing is that the beef was not medium as I requested. The sushi had a hint of spiciness from the sauce, which wasn't mentioned on the menu. Chopsticks, soy sauce, and a mint were packed together with my to-go. You pick out the extra housemade sauces of your choosing from the sauce station, which included the white hibachi creamy sauce, ginger soy sauce, teriyaki sauce, and hot sauce. I didn't try the teriyaki sauce, but I enjoyed the rest of the sauces. Their white sauce is a lot better than another hibachi place in town-it doesn't make me nauseated, probably because it is made from scratch. The first time I ate here, I ordered one of the specialty rolls (can't recall the name). It had tuna, avocado, salmon, and a white fish; with crab salad inside; eight pieces total. I though it was excellent (the fish was very fresh), although on the pricey side. On my second visit, I was very disappointed. I ordered the shrimp tempura roll and tuna roll. The tuna was not prepared properly, as there still sinew, which should have been removed. This made tough to eat. The shrimp tempura: It was the slimmest shrimp tempura I've ever seen! I've been here twice and I've had a nice experience both times. First time we dined in and second time we had takeout. This place is mostly a takeout restaurant. They do have a seating area but it's limited to just about 3-4 tables. The food is average. The hibachi is pretty good but nothing better than you'd get at other Japanese restaurants in Wilmington. We tried a couple sushi rolls and same situation. Definitely a nice place to go for a quick takeout but there are definitely better options out there if you are truly wanting a Japanese restaurant experience. It was a $16 roll and I wanted hibachi. I got steak (filet?! Maybe) and shrimp. Good portion, not over cooked or greasy. I also got the crab puffs...nothing to write home about. They were well filled but the filling was a wee tasteless. The dipping sauce is their own creation, it looks like, and was very tasty. Lastly, I tried their sushi. Who ever made it is not a sushi chef for sure. It was very slipping and the diameter of the slices are HUGE. 2-3 bites, which means, if you use soy sauce, they fall apart and are very messy. Currently on my quest to find the best hibachi in Wilmington and decided to check out Yaki. This place had the BEST service, however, the food was lacking. I ordered the Chicken Hibachi and my husband got the steak. Additionally, we shared a spicy tuna roll. The meat was bland, and did not have much of a taste, but the roll and veggies were delicious. The spot is super cute and the staff were constantly checking in to see how everything was and if we needed anything. I think it's because they are newly opened so not a lot of people know about them (?) I got the shrimp and chicken entree for around $12 and they gave a generous amount of shrimps!! You don't see that often anymore in this inflation era. Food and flavor are delicious, meeting my standards for a hibachi grilled place. The entree automatically comes with fried rice and not white rice so you gotta ask if you prefer white rice. The place was sparkling clean. Anyways, I'm impressed. I am a local. This was our first time here. We were greeted upon entering by everyone behind the counter. They answered all of our questions easily. We waited less than 10 minutes for our food. Portion sizes were a good size, food was tasty and delicious, our proteins were not swimming in a pool of teriyaki or hibachi as some other places. Vegetables were crisp and seasoned well. Wow!! My oldest daughter found Yaki Express online while pleading for sushi. She's a good kid so we decided to try it for dinner :) We came in for pickup and were greeted really warmly and only needed to wait a few minutes. The place is small and really charming with lots of lanterns and lights. There is a window to see the chef and I picked up my 5 yr old so she could watch. He smiled and waved then surprised us with a blast of water on the window! Hah It was really funny and my daughter absolutely loved it. Everything we ordered was incredibly delicious!
