I went to Yakuza House for my birthday and had an incredible experience! I was a little confused by the seating options when I booked, but even on a busy Saturday night right after New Year's, the staff was great and moved us from the bar to a table relatively quickly. The bar area was cool as you get to watch the make sushi up close. I just preferred the table for this visit. The vibe was super cute, dim but bright enough to still enjoy the experience. We started with the crispy rice topped with spicy tuna and the gyoza. The gyoza was a great addition, and while the spicy tuna was good, I personally would have preferred the crispy rice piece to be a bit thinner. I started my sushi journey with three hand rolls, which were all solid, but the absolute star of the night was the sushi assortment my server helped me put together. I tried two each of three popular pieces and one each of two more unique ones. Every single piece was amazing and literally felt like it melted in my mouth. It definitely had a high end Omakase feel but without the crazy price tag! I ended up ordering one final piece before leaving, and they were thoughtful enough to put a little candle on the plate for my birthday. I was introduced to Yakuza House last year by Yelp and Im so grateful for the introduction. Everything here is FRESH and delicious! I started with the salmon and tuna crispy rice which is YUM. The hangry and the sake toro were okay. The flavors didn't feel as impactful as they should have been. The ube cheesecake was nice and light. Omakase experience was amazing. I've done Omakase at different restaurants before and this was 2nd to none. I worried it wasn't going to be enough food because we're big eaters, but I was stuffed. The service was perfect and the ambiance was beautiful. The experience took a little over 2 hours and my rump was a little sore sitting in the hard booth seat. Yakuza House is a fairly priced restaurant that offers great quality items. The new location off of Severn is modern and spacious. You can see how clean the workspace is if you sit at the bar. It's also cool to sit there and watch the skills of the chefs working too. This time, I tried their: *Takoyaki ($7 for 4 pieces) - Freshly fried and delicious, crispy on the outside with a piping hot soft center. The topping off with a little drizzle of ponzu is new for me, and it goes well! *Salmon teriyaki hot plate entree ($18) - Fantastic, can't go wrong with soup, salad, teriyaki salmon, grilled veggies and white rice! I love both the clear soup (fish-stock base) and the miso soup that they have for options. No skimping on the miso here, it's perfect. I also love both the ginger-carrot dressing and the sesame dressing for the salads. *Unagi donburi ($19) - Veggies and broiled eel topped on white rice. Another classic that can't go wrong. It's amazing. I wish there was a little more eel on top of the rice portion-wise, but overall not a real complaint since we know eel is pricy. This one also comes with soup and salad! *Crispy rice appetizer ($15) - I didn't love this one. it's basically 4 pieces of nigiri sushi topped with tuna and salmon, but the rice is made into the little nigiri shape and then fried. I thought frying the rice would be a creative delicious twist, but I found that it made it feel more dense, which took away from the favor of the tuna/salmon. Presentation was top-notch though as with all of their other menu items! *Shisojito cocktail (not sure the price) - This tasted like a lemon sour cocktail. It was really good! I wish it had shiso (a fragrant herb/leaf in the mint family) mixed into the actual drink and not just used as a topping because I LOVE shiso. It would have gone well with the drink itself! Their portions aren't large or anything, but they're fair and you won't go home hungry. The quality of the items here are high, the flavors outstanding, and the restaurant is a local favorite for a reason! read more

Really really wonderful service. Our waitress was super upbeat and excited to hear how our food was. I loved that you check off your menu choices with a pencil so it's easier to keep track of your options. The real standouts to me were the aji and hotate nigiris. The aji was a rec from the waitress and was very fresh, light and buttery. The sear on the hotate and shiso butter were an addictive combo - I had to order another. Overall I would say if you are a sushi lover for the flavor combinations, this is your place. If you're a sushi purist, i can't say it is the best fish I have ever had in the New Orleans area, but it was very good! read more

Great place for sashimi and hand rolls. Tried the crispy rice app which was pretty good, personally prefer a lower rice: fish ratio. Hand rolls always a hit. Yakuza House has quickly become one of my fave local places to eat out for sushi in Metairie. The handrolls are amazing, the scallop hand roll is my personal favorite. Everything is so fresh. We also loveee the crispy rice appetizer! We tried the tako-yaki appetizer this time which was good as well. The restaurants itself is cute, and there's a sushi bar in the middle where the rolls are all made fresh in front of you if you prefer that style of seating. Our service was attentive but not at all rushed, and the food came out in a timely manner. They have seasonal cocktails (which we didn't try this time, but looked good), and they have creole creamery ice cream for dessert which is an extra bonus since that's one of my fave ice cream shops! Yakuza House is hands down one of the best sushi restaurants in the city, so I've been here a few times and I love it. Their menu is vast and everything is delicious. I have been sleeping on this place. When NOLA travel is required, I typically stay at the Marriott property next door. I drive right past Yakuza when arriving and departing the hotel. Yakuza's exterior kinda gave me that cheesy fake sushi vibe so never tried it. Well, this past trip, I felt like sushi, which I never do in New Orleans. I mean, why? A quick Yelp search brought up Yakuza with its outstanding reviews. And hey...next door. Everything about the place impressed me. The hostess asked me where I wanted to sit. Bar is always OK when traveling. Optional anonymity. Then she asked if I wanted to sit near people or away. Whoa...pro move. The whole experience was excellent. Sushi was fresh, presentation was top notch, and the service was attentive and courteous. I spent way more than budget but didn't care. Authentic Japanese sushi bars are traditionally named for their head chef. Doesn't matter here...there's no chef Yakuza. Would be kinda like naming an Italian place Mafia. Cheesy, right? I have to Yakuza House twice now and I'm sure there will be many more visits in my future. Good sushi isn't easy to find, but this place has it. We celebrated my daughter's birthday at the sushi bar. It's always so fun to watch the chefs at work. This visit we tried a few new things, and it didn't disappoint. The servers are very sweet and attentive. Make sure to save room for dessert. Great service from start to end during my dine in. My waiter checked on me multiple times during my meal. The Shisojito was refreshing and delish. Bite size crispy rice is served with tuna and salmon in a creamy spicy sauce. I also ordered the Starving Handroll Set: Panko Shrimp, Akami, Negi-Hama, Red Crab. The set came with either soup or salad. I got the salad with ginger dressing and had my handroll cut in four. The handroll was very fresh and light. Whenever I go to a sushi place I pay attention to the flavor and texture of rice first. Rice at Yakuza was great, well seasoned, sticky but had that firm and chewy texture. Now the fish, they were all great. The sea bream suggested by our lovely waitress Vina was my favorite. Vina was really really great, proactive, thoughtful, lots of attention to details. Yakuza house did not disappoint. It was a great option for fresh sushi/sashimi and all things seafood. The place was easy accessible and had good parking. The place was nicely lit and was decorated with a lot of Japanese items throughout to include Godzilla and d gundam in framed pictures as well as a geisha painted on the wal. The sushi bar was cool and loved sitting next to the sushi chefs and getting everything right there and talk to them as they served us. The food was fresh and delicious and it all came fast. As soon as they took the order. We were bamboozled with great tasting dish. We love fresh sashimi and even though not a big selection what they had was great and how they dressed it was delicious did not have to dip in soy sauce or anything . The o-toro, uni and salmon were my favorite, but they were all equally delicious from the king mackerel to yellowtail and other sashimi it all banged. Now I tried the udon mushroom carbonara and it was so delicious I wanted to lick the plate. Is a must if you are not into sashimi too much. And then the handroll we had the Alani or spicy tuna and it was a nice kick. I enjoyed it all, will come again. read more

Went a long time ago to their old location and loved it. I was hoping it would be the same quality of food at the new larger location. I can report the new location is larger and I should not have worried about the quality cause it was just as good. Got some edamame to start, along with crispy rice with salmon and tuna. The crispy rice might have sneaky been the favorite part of the meal had a crisp bite tons of flavor think I preferred it topped with tuna over the salmon, but both were good. A close second favorite might be the mushroom udon carbonara. It was earthy and very filling. My main was the hangry temaki. Comes with blue crab, salmon, akami, red crab, and scallops. All were very good, but my favorite might have been the scallops even though I'm not typically a huge fan. It has a great citrus bite that just complimented it very well. read more

This place is great! We showed up on Black Friday about 30 minutes before happy hour ended without a reservation but they were able to get us seated. I do recommend making a reservation as this place was busy and we just got lucky. Everything we got ended up being off the happy hour menu, except for the yellowtail Crudo. The hand rolls were super tasty. The scallop ended up being my favorite. They do give you the option to have them cut, which I would probably do in the future as these kind need to be eaten right away or the nori gets chewy. The staff was all very friendly and were checked on by a few different people. I never felt like I needed to search for my server for anything. I asked for a nigiri suggestion and the amberjack is what I went with. DELICIOUS. I am still thinking about how good it was. It was so good I ordered another round but went with the hotate (seated scallop) that time. It was good too but could not compare to that amberjack. I also tried some of the spicy kimchee edamame and it was good as well. I could easily have eaten the entire bowl lol. I had the Lunar Cat cocktail, which was apart of their spring cocktail menu. It had blood orange & yuzu, Roku gin, Cointreau, and these little popping strawberry boba. It was such a delicious & delightful drink. The boba were my favorite part (duh). I'm SO GLAD I finally checked out Yakuza House! I sat at the sushi bar, and I'm glad I did! You can see the chefs preparing rolls, sashimi, and nigiris! I actually sat next to a group doing the Omakase experience, and it looked delightful! The Yellowtail Crudo was so good and they don't skimp on the fish -- the pieces were pretty thick! The dressed Sake Toro was also a delicious bite! For the hand rolls, I tried the Akami and Unagi, both were good but my sister and I ordered 2 of each and we should've gotten more variety. The chef also made us a bite that he was preparing for the omakase people -- and omg I will be thinking about that forever. I don't remember what it was exactly but it was exceptional. I've made this my go to joint when I make trips in to the area. I discovered Yakuza House browsing tiktok one day and decided to go when I picked my GF up from the airport. You can tell the restaurant is put together with intention when you step in the door. The sushi bar in the center of the restaurant draws you in. We sat at the sushi bar because it was clear the chefs knew what they were doing. Every piece we saw them assemble had an attention to detail you would expect from a Michelin star restaurant. The restaurant has a bright, yet classy vibe. I did want to try this place a few times before leaving a review as the menu is pretty eclectic. Everything I have had here has been excellent. The mushroom udon carbonara was insanely delicious. Potent mushroom flavor, perfectly cooked noodles, thick creamy sauce that stuck to the noodles, amazing presentation. We ordered the Yakido because we have seen Japanese style egg salad sandwiches online, and it was better than we could have expected. The pictures dont do the sandwich justice, its bigger than it appears as well. I ordered the Starving Temaki set and a piece of Deluxe Toro (a special on the menu at thr time) to give their sushi a taste. I had forgotten how good real fresh crab can be on sushi until I had this. The Toro sushi may have been the singular greatest piece of sushi I've ever had. I dont have the words to do it justice. Nothing we have had from here has been bad. It's easy to recommend a restaurant when everything is great. We have had lunch each time we have been here. The lunch combo comes with soup and salad.
