Been about 7 years since my last review. This restaurant continues to deliver excellent food and service. We have come here so often over the years that the regular staff knows our orders even before we do. It's nice to be remember, makes the experience a little more personal. My kids have been eating here since they were 1yr old and this is still one of their favorite to eat. Very kid friendly. Chefs span the range from a serious cook the food experience to a full cooking show, complete with train whistles, egg tricks, and lots of fire flames. My son knows their cooking show so well that he will object if they don't do the volcano or train tricks.!it's great. The chefs also accommodate each of the guests for their hibachi experience. We like LOTS of garlic butter but not teriyaki sauce. Some guests like no garlic or extra eggs in the fried rice. I've seen them make many accommodations. I have been eating at Shogun since I was 10 yrs old, & I'm now 46. Tonight was absolutely abhorrent customer service on every level. Group of 9, arrived at 5:30 pm right when they opened. We ordered immediately. I ordered a roll w/ 1 modification spicy tuna instead of salmon. My roll never came. Everyone else was done eating & my roll was apparently 'still getting made because of modification'. After waiting 1.5 hrs I decided to cancel. Manager came over & offered an impressive NOTHING to compensate for his sushi chefs completely forgetting my order. Shogun is smack dab between 2 all you can eat places. I think I will patronize sushi Nami & sushi masa before returning to shogun. It's legit nothing special & they don't understand customer service. After 36 yrs of eating there I'm super over it. read more

The food we had was phenomenal. Everything tasted very good. I had ordered the hibachi chicken add fried rice with takoyaki on the side and everything was delicious. Service was a little slow but it was very busy so it's to be expected. The atmosphere was also very welcoming. Only warning I can give was the food was not cheap at all. I was able to eat my food twice but it was still over $50. read more

I went to Shogun because I wanted hibachi and I've heard great things. I did have a little bit of a wait once I got there, around 6pm. This place was busy! I decided to get a drink from the bar while I waited. I asked the bartender to make me a strawberry lemon drop and she delivered! It was one of the best lemon drops I've ever had! I got the Shogun Delight which is chicken and shrimp. I opted for the hibachi rice with no egg. I loved that they accommodated me. The chef was fast and entertaining. He cooked the food perfectly. Unfortunately, this was a very disappointing experience from start to finish. As soon as we walked up to the restaurant, we noticed multiple dead roaches and dead flies sitting in the windowsill. That immediately raised concerns about cleanliness, but because the restaurant had such high ratings, we decided to give it a chance anyway. We ordered hibachi, and the chef was not interactive with the table at all. Instead, he focused almost exclusively on one regular customer sitting with us, giving him extra food and plenty of attention while barely acknowledging everyone else. It made the rest of the table feel like an afterthought. The food itself was underwhelming. Nearly everything tasted the same, with an overwhelming soy sauce flavor, and there wasn't much seasoning or distinction between the different items. The one positive was that the steak was tender. To make matters worse, the staff came across as rude and inattentive throughout our visit. Overall, this meal was not worth the price, the time, or the money. Between the cleanliness concerns, poor service, and bland food, I would not return or recommend it. read more

I ordered the combination hibachi rice and it was extremely delicious. The bartender recommended it and stated they pack the plate and it's enough for two. Everyone in this establishment are very nice and friendly. I really enjoyed the rice. However packing the plate was an understatement. Shogun has a great variety of sushi rolls but I opted for hibachi. I love that hibachi rice and a shrimp appetizer was included. Everything was tasty. Our chef was not as enthusiastic as the others which really didn't bother me because I can do without a show but there were kids at our table. Their parents had to ask him to toss food in their mouths and they enjoyed it. I got here at noon when they opened and there was already a line at the door so this place seems pretty popular. read more

Awesome the best sushi on the planet. Get the Tuna Tacos out of this world fresh. We had about 5 rolls for tables all of them fantastic. The Sushi melt in your mouth buttery. My daughter had some kind Scallop & noodles dish out of this world good. The place is old but very clean. read more

I visited here for the first time yesterday afternoon. There is parking onsite which is always a plus. It was crowded but we were able to be seated without a wait. The waitress was helpful with the right amount of attentiveness. The food was tasty. I ordered the shrimp and scallop hibachi meal. I also ordered some plum wine which was also good. Shogun has been in business for so long, and honestly, I was never a huge fan because everything seemed mediocre to me. I think of it as a staple in Metairie, where if you ate here since the beginning of time, you'll continue to do so because it's what you're used to. The hibachi section doesn't offer much entertainment by the chefs as other restaurants but it's good for people who aren't into that and rather just eat and go. Let's talk about togo phone orders. They're definitely hard to get ahold of. Constant busy tone because they're always so busy. It tests your patience, for sure. So why the four stars? Because I've found myself frequenting the sushi bar for their omakase. I'm usually not a fan of sitting at the sushi bar and rather a regular table but I don't think omakase can be ordered there. Either way, omakase is basically a plate of sushi, sashimi or whatever the chef want to put together. You basically leave it up to the chef to create your meal. It seem to be more affordable than other restaurants that offer it too. Service is always attentative too. So that's a plus. read more

It's really hard to go somewhere and have pre-existing expectations. We were trying not to compare to our favorite hibachi place back home in KY, but it was hard not to. The food was pretty good, but would have been much better had the shrimp not been pre-cooked. It makes a HUGE difference. read more
