I have now been here 7 times! It is my go to sushi restaurant even though it's not close to my house. I got 3 nigiri and the scallops sashimi appetizer. The nigiri was omakase quality. What I mean is, it's not just fish on rice. Each one had its own topping and sauce. As an example the tuna tatake was topped with a vinegar based sauce with those shiso (?) leaves. A friend and I frequent Fuji Sushi at least once a week, it's so good! We get the 2 roll lunchtime sushi special with miso soup or salad with an absolutely delicious ginger dressing but if you're more hungry, you can order 3 rolls. I always get eel avocado roll & salmon avocado roll but sometimes will get a spicy crunchy roll - all for $10.95! I've seen other diners' orders & am tempted to get the Drew Brees roll - maybe next week! This restaurant has been around a looong time & the owner is so friendly & nice. Managed to come here in person after getting delivery from them first and it's AMAZING. We ordered the same rolls, because not only were they delicious, but we also wanted to have an accurate comparison. We were already impressed with the delivered rolls and in person they're 10x better. The flavors are intense and blend together nicely, the presentation is beautiful, and they're freshly prepared so the rolls with seared fish have an incredible smokey flavor and aroma. As far as the service, we happened to go when it was slow and our server was very kind and attentive. Additionally, the chef made small talk with us and recommended other rolls he thought we'd enjoy next time based on what we ordered. This sushi restaurant is a hidden gem in a strip mall located in Metairie off Veterans. My sis and I wanted sushi but didn't want to head uptown, so we took a chance on Fuji Sushi. I love this hidden gem. I started coming here a few years ago and have been impressed ever since then. The food portions are great. The price is good too. It's a great sushi bar/ restaurant . Besides having the sushi rolls and popular sushi fish ..They have odd/ not the norm fish that are spectacular from the Uni to, the Toro and bluefin tuna and some other fish with crazy names but it's so delicious. I ordered the Cajun Poboy Roll (crab, crawfish, and tempura shrimp) and the seafood fried rice (my friend said I HAD to order that rice). The sushi was exceptional. The rice was delicious (I could of ate an entire pot of that rice). We then ordered bubble teas. Great service from the staff. They were all friendly and most seemed to recognize the regulars. This is a solid 4 1/2 stars but it's not quite a 5. The actual fish is wonderful. The fish is a 5 (or 6), fresh, yummy, excellent fish. The c waitress came up to me and asked me if I liked sushi. I relied on the affirmative. But then I started asking about kani (fake crab). So many places are saying there is crab on it when it's kani (enough said, look it up). So she directs me to several tools without kani. Generally I just order a roll and have them hold the kani. But the Tiger Roll looked good so I went that way. TIGER ROLL: inside: salmon and tuna. Outside: salmon, barbecue eel, avocado, roe [masago], green onion, crunchy with eel sauce, I was like "okay, let's try it." I rarely eat eel and now I'm asking myself why. The roll was extremely creative and yummy but the person assembling it didn't make it tight enough and it didn't always hang together. Another issue was when I asked about beer I was only told about Sapporo, which is a 22 oz beer. I feel like there should be less-ounce choices. Oh well, I'm in Louisiana so I'll just get a to-go cup. I was impressed because they have uni (sea urchin) and Toro (fatty tuna). Honestly, you only see that in the better sushi restaurants because it's such a specialty. Came to Kenner to visit my brother and he recommended this spot after eating here one time. We ordered to go and the staff was super rude. Didn't pay attention to my order because he repeated it back to me but incorrectly. I corrected him and then when he gave me the check he still got it wrong. Gasp. I seriously cannot believe it has been FIVE years since my previous (and first ever!) Yelp review. Seriously, where does the time go? I am happy to report that not much has changed since my last review. Fuji is still my very favorite spot to grab dinner in a pinch or get my sushi fix in general whenever a craving strikes! The food is as delicious as ever. The employees are so friendly they'll make you feel like family. The location is convenient, although parking can be tricky on certain nights of the week since it's a shared lot- but it's well worth a trip or two around the parking lot. Nowadays I'm a fan of the tuna avocado roll (+asparagus), but I have yet to be disappointed by any of their rolls. If you want something special or want to add/remove something from a roll on the menu, just ask! They're happy to accommodate their customers special requests and their goal is to serve you sushi you enjoy. The only thing that has changed in the past five years is they have recently added bubble tea to their menu. The flavors they are currently serving are strawberry, mango and passionfruit. So far we have tried the strawberry and mango; Both tasted amazing and were very refreshing. At most, Fuji is a decent little sushi place but definitely not my favorite joint in the area. The waitress understood English but didn't speak it well and was hard to understand. The service from the waitress was okay, she kept up with the drink refills but never removed dishes from the table the entire time, was really slow to bring the check and pick up our payment even though we were one of two tables in the whole place being used. The sushi chef was very friendly, spoke great English, and was very helpful and descriptive with our menu item questions. The noodle salad is something I'd recommend for sure, the noodles were slightly undercooked but still edible and pretty good. I'd order it again for sure if I were to come back to Fuji. The miso soup was full of tofu and had a great taste. Easily one of the best miso soups in the Metairie area. The ginger salad was decent and had a lot of dressing. My entree was the sushi lunch combo. It comes with 6 pieces of sushi and a California roll. The nigiri as well as the California roll were both smaller than average and not very filling. The fish unfortunately didn't taste too fresh either. Fuji isn't the worst around but there are definitely better places around the same price, fairly close to here. read more

My girlfriend and I were craving sushi and we stumbled upon fuji sushi and read great reviews. Upon entering, we were greeted by a server who only gave us one menu but two sushi menus. After we decided our order, another server took our orders to the kitchen. I felt confused as neither server told us who was actually serving us. We started with the snowcrab salad and the salmon skin salad. The presentation of the snowcrab salad was atrocious. The avocado was already browning and it looked like there was no preparation to it at all. The salmon skin salad was actually dressed beautifully and tasted wonderful. Our entrees consisted of the snowcrab Naruto roll, spider roll, volcano roll and the steak teriyaki dinner. The rolls were delicious but the steak teriyaki is just the steak with no sides. Confusing as most places serve it with a bowl for rice. I did not even get the soup and salad as advertised as I had to ask another server(different then the first two) to even get them. I checked out this sushi joint because it was the 2nd closest to my brother's house (the closest served me fish the wrong color last time) and because Naomi P recommended it. Naomi did not steer me wrong. The location is a bit difficult but they do have 2 reserved parking spots in front of the restaurant. I tried a variety of rolls and everything was top notch. The little nieces enjoyed the shrimp fried rice and I even got them to eat some of the cooked rolls. My cucumber salad was delish and the noodle salad was also tasty...and not as mayonaissey as it is other places. The server was also great to the little ones, even making them custom starter chopsticks. The rainbow roll was smaller (and didn't use spicy crab) then I've had in other places, but the fish was beautifully interwoven. Definitely worth checking out. read more

Fuji Sushi saves the day! My husband and I love sushi and have been living in a "dry sushi" community for a while now. Our favs(to give you an idea what Im comparing this review to) is rock n sake but theyre only open for lunch on fridays and Kyoto on Prytania--both located in an inconvenient area for a quick bite to eat for us Kennerites. I refuse to go to Sake Cafe(the mcdonalds of japanese food) and Kyoto 2 is just ok and closed on sundays. Thanks to my fellow yelpers, I tried all of their suggested rolls and all them were GREAT ! Perfect medley of flavor and freshness. Its my new local spot and Im so happy about it. This place was probably one of the best sushi places I have tried. My husband and I ordered the Mango Roll and Lsu Roll. Very pleased with the food. I probably would have gave it a 5 star if it wasn't because of the waiter. She wasn't very friendly and very pushy for us to get things we didn't want to get. She also offered a mango bubble tea and I got it but when I got my check she charged me extra for the bubbles in the tea which I would of been okay with if she would have mentioned it was extra for that but she didn't.
