I ordered the Fig & Vanilla Matcha Latte, and my husband had the Yala Latte. Both were absolutely delicious--perfectly balanced, smooth, and not overly sweet. You can really tell they put thought and care into their drinks. The café has great music, wonderful people, and such a positive vibe. Honestly... not really for me, but I think it's more a matter of personal preference than the quality of their matcha. Their matcha is rich and creamy! They offer a variety of milk options and you can adjust sweetness levels. I haven't tried their espresso drinks but they all sound good. My favorite is the fig matcha which has a distinct flavor but does not overpower the taste of the matcha. Came to Yala for all the hype and loved it for the service. As you walk in you are greeted by an open area along with a seating area (bench) along the wall. I asked the barista for her recommendation and ordered the "evil eye" hands down 10/10 . Brewed with hot sand, the coffee is truly richer in taste, creamier and obviously super hot. Loved that the barista explained the process of the brewing and added that the small coffee grounds left at the bottom of the cup shouldn't be drank. I've had my shares of Turkish coffee and can honestly say, this one is worth coming for. Parking is scarce, so come knowing you will spend time looking for parking. Finally got a chance to stop by the Yala Silver Lake location! There was a bit of a line and the store itself was busy but the wait wasn't bad. I was craving a matcha and got the fig and vanilla matcha. The matcha itself was high quality, but unlike the fig and vanilla matcha I got at the Studio City location, this matcha did not have the expected fig and vanilla flavor. Not sure if it was because I got the drink less sweet, but I barely tasted any fig if at all. They had also had run out of the freeze dried figs (it was around 2pm) which is not a big deal but I the freeze dried fig on top adds to the overall aesthetic haha. The cafe itself isn't the best spot to hang out as there isn't much seating (one row of seating along the wall) and it felt pretty crowded on the inside on a weekend. Street parking only. I tried the popular Fig Matcha Latte!! It tased pretty good. The fig mix comes at the bottom of cup with the matcha poured on top. I'd say the fig mixture tastes like very sweet honey with a breeze of fig flavor. The drink is beautiful, with a freeze dried fig on top for aesthetic. Such an adorable touch. After the matcha is mixed up, the color isn't half bad. The reason I rate this a 3/5 is because LA is a hotspot for matcha, especially around the silverlake area! Once Yala opened a spot in Silver Lake, I wondered if this location would carry the same amount of hype as their original cafe in Studio City. As the long line during a recent weekend visit proved, this place seems to be as popular as its first location! However, I find it to be a lot more chill during weekday visits, and while I like the coffee I would not wait in a lengthy queue to get it. I usually get the Evil Eye, which is a small cup of sand coffee topped with a dollop of their cream top and a crusted raw sugar rim. I'm not a fan of Lavendar drinks. Stagger coffee also has a great citrus inspired coffee drink. It's a close call, but they each have their highlights. I've also tried their signature YALA latte. It's super creamy with a nice dash of cardamom to enhance the flavor as well as their vanilla fig matcha latte. I appreciate the unique flavor profiles. You still can taste the coffee and matcha without the flavors overwhelming the drink or being overly sweet. The space is minimal with the counter and some side seating. I'd been wanting to try this matcha spot for a while because I'd heard so many great things, and honestly, the matcha was good--but the service completely ruined the experience. I came in on a Tuesday morning when it was pretty slow. The baristas were standing around talking to each other when I walked in, and the person who took my order acted like I was bothering her. She was incredibly blunt, had zero warmth, and gave off a very obvious "I don't want to be here" attitude. For an $8.50 matcha, I expect at the very least to be treated like a customer instead of an inconvenience. I didn't tip, and I don't feel bad about it. A tip is earned through good service, not automatically owed when someone hands you an overpriced drink. The matcha was genuinely good, but it's not so good that I'm willing to spend $8.50 to be met with an attitude. I came to this location because the other location was way to far for me as someone visiting from across the country and staying in DTLA. I got the Evil Eye, Yala latte and the Fig Matcha latte and let me just say that even if you have to go out of your way to come here - please do! I thought about it but couldn't pick a favorite because all three of our drinks were so delicious - especially the cardamom foam top was chef's kiss! The evil eye is small but mighty - sand coffee topped with cardamom foam and rimmed with sugar so every sip sends you to heaven. It is very hot so be careful to not take a big sip as soon as you get it. If you aren't the adventurous kind, get the Yala because it was a very delicious creamy latte with even creamier cardamom foam top. Some people complain about the sweetness of the Fig Matcha latte but for me it was perfection! There was actual fig pulp at the bottom and freeze dried fig on top which made it even more delightful. Honestly this place was a no for me, maybe we went on a bad day. There was a long line (out the door) but they were pretty quick, i got their Yala latte but it was very milky and flavorless, it almost didnt even taste like coffee at all. The cream top was good but the rest was whatever. The matcha was the same thing, it had no flavor and did not taste like the best quality or maybe just didnt have enough matcha. Parking can be a bit difficult, but that's understandable since Studio City is known for limited parking. That said, the coffee here is absolutely delicious and truly high quality. The café was busy, the service was great, and the overall experience was excellent. I've visited more than 70% of the coffee shops in Orange County, and from my experience, the quality and flavor of coffee in Los Angeles are on a completely different level. Most coffee shops in Orange County taste almost exactly the same--they feel rushed and lack creativity. Here in LA, the coffee is so much better. I'm actually surprised this place doesn't have a higher rating, but I guess that's just because the competition in LA is incredibly fierce.
