Let me start by saying if this place was in DC I would have given it 4 stars but it's in Front Royal Virginia for God's sake. This place was recommended to me be a friend from California so i had to give it a shot. Everything was spot on from the eel down to the green tea. They also have an all you can eat buffet on Sundays if you need to binge. The service was attentive but not over bearing and the guy working the sushi counter is the real deal. My boyfriend and I were craving some sushi and were surprised to find a restaurant so close to home! The exterior of the building made us a little dubious. We came inside and were the only ones there. Service was lovely, very nice servers and sushi chef. I got their spider rolls which were delicious and my boyfriend got eye rolls, blue fin tuna, and some others. He found them to be very good! Very surprised. We went here for their all you can eat sushi with our kids and good friends, the outside did this place no justice! The kids boxes had a nice variety of foods including California rolls, and the sushi was actually very fresh and they had a good selection of sushi to choose from. I love this place and can't wait to go back. It's my understanding they have a sushi buffet on Sundays. Normally I wouldn't go near a sushi buffet but I'm really looking forward to giving it a try. I went to Yamafuji a couple weeks ago and was very very pleased. I got a sunimono salad that had wonderful octopus. The yellow tail and tuna were the best I've had anywhere. The tempura shrimp and vegetables were delicious. The oshinko pickle platter was yum. I'm a Northern Virginia transplant and really miss good sushi. So I'm so glad this place is in Front Royal. We've been to Yamafuji many times over the years - my husband and I even went on our first date here! He loves the sushi, and the bulgogi is terrific. The all you can eat sushi night is a great deal. The service can be hit-or-miss, however. If the owner is serving, then service is great, but some of the younger servers don't seem like they have much experience, and aren't as attentive. Overall, though, it's definitely a worthwhile stop, especially for Front Royal. read more

Front Royal, rejoice! As a frequent visitor who grew up here, my expectations for decent (vegetarian) food after 8pm are shall we say "tempered". Enter Yama Fuji. I can only speak to the meal I'm eating presently, but for under $10 (special) I got a dinner "veggie box" with teriyaki tofu, rice, veggie tempura, sushi, salad and some really good miso soup! On top of that, you can order online and they're open until 10pm. Color me happily fed. Conclusion: Please in the name of All That's Holy let this business survive. read more

I was really looking forward to some sushi and I have heard and read alot of good reviews. But, when I walked in the host told me the chef wasnt there and he had no idea where he is. So, thats a no go for me and the prices are a little high. I paid less in Hawaii for probably the best sushi you can get. Yamafuji is a great asset to the community. I've eaten there at least a half-dozen times and i have never been disappointed. The food is consistently good, and on my last visit, it was even better than my previous experiences there. I had the salmon box, and everything was just right. Even the brown rice tea was tastier than usual. Perhaps this is due to the change in ownership mentioned by another reviewer. As other reviewers have noted, this is not a 5-star restaurant, but if you want good Japanese food, it won't disappoint. The environment is conventional, and everything is clean and well-cared for. Like many restaurants in this area, the wait-staff can be variable, but remember, this is Warren County, not DC. I've eaten at sushi restaurants across northern Virginia, and the food at Yamafuji is on a par with any of them. read more

A terrific restaurant with an absolutely wonderful staff! The food is top notch--sushi, tempura, gyoza, all of it is excellent--and the prices are hard to beat. You can't go wrong with the Sunday evening Sushi buffet! Best of all is the remarkable waitstaff. We left our son's teddy bear at the restaurant, and after a phone call they happily agreed to mail the bear to us in our home town. Nice people running a great business--it's good to see that. Third time I have been to Yamafuji, and I love this place! I am absolutely stunned by negative reviews, because my experiences have been of outstanding quality sushi (in Front Royal!) and exemplary service. On two occasions, the waiter brought out freebies for the table. So incredible! First time I went, our group split the 40 piece sushi boat which had an abundance of different types of sushi, but once the waiter identified which was which I shortly forgot. So it was like eating Forrest Gump's box of chocolates, but I did not mind being surprised. It utterly amazed me that the fish was so fresh. Next time I ordered the roll box with California rolls, spicy tuna, salmon, etc. and most recently the vegi box, with teriyaki tofu, tempura, veggie Cali rolls and rice. MAN! IT IS SO GOOD! I can't wait to go back again. Each time I have gone it has been lunch, and it has been surprisingly quiet. I hope they are doing well, because their food and service rocks! We really would have liked to try the other restaurants in the area, but we made the mistake of coming to Yamafuji early on and now we keep going back. I love this place. Everything is fresh, the choices are great, and the staff is friendly. Start with the sesame salad and the miso soup and be adventurous in your sushi roll choices! Some of my favorites are the California Crunch Roll, Spider Roll, and Bulgogi Roll. Also, the value is fabulous. Sushi is good, sushi chefs are amazing, service is horrible and it is cold in there. We've been there a lot but unfortunetly we will not be going back until they get better waitresses. I can't recommend this little Japanese restaurant highly enough. We just happened on the Yelp reviews and decided to check it out. On Friday and Saturday nights they do the full-fledged grill, but what keeps us coming back is the fantastic sushi! I didn't even *like* sushi, and now I crave it! I don't often give any place 5 stars, but this one definately deserves it! This was probably our 5th visit. On this Friday evening we invited a couple that had never eaten there to join us. We ordered salads, soups, shrimp tempura and a ton of sushi from the al-a-carte menu. EVERYTHING tasted so fresh and flavorful. We ordered so much sushi it came in a 2 foot wooden boat, what a hoot! We ordered such a variety of sushi that I couldn't say that one was necessarily better than another, but every bit of it was delicious! I do however have an affinity for any of the "spicy" rolls. Our friends agreed that it was definately the best sushi they had ever had and they have had a lot of it. We will absolutely be returning!! By the way, Sunday night is "all you can eat" sushi night. Great little undiscovered sushi and japense place in Front Royal. The sushi is very reasonably priced and the free samples he through it make it even more of a bargin. I found the restaurant on yelp. I was total disapointed about the quality of the food. I ordered sheimp tempura normally there are vegie tempura in the meal. but they do not have it. tofuteriyake, no vegie also. the miso soup was super bad. looks like soy sauce soup and very sauty. the worse the thing of my order is the size of the rice. i think they use the small icecream spoon to measure. one spoone is one order. I laughed when I saw the rice. it is like a joke. not even enough for a cat. I also order wodon soup. the did not seperate the noodle and brouth. so every thing was soaked up. since I order the soup. when I pick up. I ask if the spoon is inside. they did not put in. and the old lady was not happy becuse she has to walk back to station to take some. she gave me attitude. I will nerver come back. read more

We are SO lucky to have this place so close. Their Sunday night "Sushi Festival" has got to be the best food deal anywhere!!!! The last time I was there, it was still AYCE for $18.95. This is NOT old lackluster sushi. This is amazingly fresh, artfully prepared delicious sushi, and, among other treats, a super fresh salad (with to-die-for peanut salad dressing). We just ate here last weekend. The food was OK, but certainly not 5-star. My tuna sushi tasted alright, but looked questionable. My tempura was overcooked and dried out. My husband, who is a sushi nut, said his salmon was just OK. The service was excellent, however. I ordered a shrimp tempura hand roll, which wasn't on the menu, but they made it for me anyway. My father-in-law ordered a bento box and didn't eat his California roll. When the sushi chef came over to clear our table, he asked about it. When I told him that my FIL didn't care for it, he said to let him know next time and he would substitute something else. We will definitely be back, but if you're expecting top quality sushi, I think you might be disappointed. read more

I had ramen and pork cutlet at this place. Ramen was the instant ramen which cost 99 cent at an Asian grocery market, and cutlet was so dry. I do not know why people love this place. read more
