Did a pick-up order here recently. Staff was friendly and the prep time given was correct. They were masked but telling patrons they could sit anywhere they wanted-no distancing practices. I complained a couple of years ago that they were not making their sushi as described in the menu. Sadly, that is still the case. I ordered the Yamato roll which is described to include masago-still no masago! I called and the first answer I got was that "the sushi chef said we don't do that anymore." Then it was followed up by the statement that they had limited ingredients due to covid-19. I didn't feel like that was an honest answer, but perhaps it was. To the owners, please update your menu or explain to patrons when something can't be made according to how you advertise. read more

TL;DR - Overall average: 2.4 + 0.1 (as a a buffer hoping this was just an off day for their rice and dressing) = 2.5 so rounding up to 3 to fit yelp Menu: 3 stars When I originally ordered (to-go), I was ordering based off their Facebook menu (which was identical to all the other menus I found online) but that was actually an outdated menu because there have been some price changes and they no longer have masago. I've attached a picture of the new menu for reference but it is now also outdated because of the lack of masago. Annoying because there was about a $6-$7 discrepancy but overall not a big deal. Service: 4 stars The person who took my order was friendly but didn't seem to really know the contents of the rolls I was inquiring about so that was a tad frustrating but not that big of a deal either. Sushi: 3 stars It was just...decent. I ordered the shrimp tempura roll, the Yamato roll, and the salmon roll. - Shrimp tempura roll (2 pieces of shrimp tempura, avocado, and cucumber): components were good but it was so large (I'm talking at least 2 inches in diameter) there's no way anyone could eat it in a single bite but I could tell the shrimp tempura was fresh - my issue wasn't really even the size but that it was absolutely drenched in eel sauce, so much so that I basically just ate the insides of it and a small nibble of the wrap/rice. - Yamato roll (deep fried with cooked salmon, cream cheese, and avocado with spicy mayo and eel sauce - was supposed to have masago): had the same issue of being so saturated with sauce, it basically tasted like the sauces and cream cheese. Only ate like 3 pieces of it because it was so overwhelmingly saucy - Salmon roll (nori on the outside, rice and salmon only on the inside): At first glance looked great with decent size pieces of fish. It wasn't rolled the best because it was coming apart before I even got it home but that's not a huge deal. When I tasted it, the fish was almost dry-ish with it starting to kind of flake/fall apart (which I've never experienced with raw salmon before) and it didn't taste super fresh but it didn't have an off smell. I also found a piece of bone in one of my pieces. Only ate like 2 pieces and ended up discarded the rest because I didn't want to take a chance. Fried rice: 1 Star As soon as I smelled it, I could tell it wasn't going to be good but I was hoping I was wrong. I hate to say it but the smell resembled dog food. The taste, I took one bite and immediately spit it out. I tried a bite with the white, yum yum sauce, and it wasn't much better. The yum yum sauce was passable but it was super watery. Ended up throwing both of them away. Ginger dressing: 1 Star I was going to make a salad at home so I got a small condiment cup of their house ginger dressing but it tasted like straight up onions and salt. It looked like there were small carrot pieces in it? But couldn't taste any ginger or other flavors. I like onion but it just wasn't pleasant. I threw it away. read more

First I have to say we were planning on eating at Shoguns. The universe said no. We picked this place on a whim and it was WAY better than we could have imagined. Service was incredible. Food came out fast and was absolutely delicious. We got chicken hibachi and some steak hibachi? I can't remember exactly what it was called? It was fantastic. I like this place. I first tried them at the beginning of the pandemic, so every order has bee for take-out. But they have been timely, well packaged, and high quality. Food and service was excellent! Contrary to what Yelp and my Google Maps said, they are indeed open on Sundays! The place was clean and tidy and we were greeted, seated and served immediately. It was our first time here (traveling from out of town) and we will definitely return if ever in the area again. The only complaints I had was there was no scallops option for the Dinner Bento Box and no mushrooms in the veggies. The Yum Yum and Ginger Sauces were some of the best I've ever had. We've been a regular at this restaurant for several years and we love the food. However, post-pandemic they have switched to serving all of their food in plastic takeout containers. Even if you eat in the restaurant. So your salad comes in a foam burger box. Your soup comes in a plastic soup bowl. Your sushi comes in a little plastic sushi tray with a snap on top like you get at the grocery store if you buy sushi there. You get plastic silverware. When I go out to eat, I don't want "to go" quality packaging and presentation of my food. I called to express my concern about this, and the young woman that took my call was very understanding and said they've tried to get the owners to change. But that they refuse. I told her to please pass on that my family will not be back until they switch back to actual plates and bowls for in house dining. So until that happens, I can't recommend this restaurant. read more

The food here is always delicious. The taste, flavor and presentation always spot on for my palette. They always seem to need another server or two to really do a good job of taking care of the customer. The server tonight is friendly and polite but needs help. I'd give it a zero if I could. Filled sushi rolls with so many tempura flakes it was disgusting. Sent back one roll because it was so bad. Owners did not want to remove it from the check. Our server finally convinced them to remove it, only to discover they slipped it back in after we gave them the credit card. I've had miso soup many times but never have I had it separate into layers before it's even placed on the table it was tolerable at best but not at all what you would expect the salad was standard albeit a bit small no complaints there the entree was almost acceptable the chicken and shrimp had good flavor but the shrimp was rubbery and the rice was undercooked and some of it wasn't fried at all but by far the worst offender of the evening was their volcano rolls it came in a plastic box and appeared fine at first glance upon opening the box the pungent aroma of fish essentially uppercuts you the presentation was fine but it just covered up fried seaweed wrapped around crab and "tuna" that hadn't been fried with the rest of it my girlfriend couldn't even swallow one bite without spitting it out she also ordered a side of white rice that was devoid of flavor altogether they didn't even use butter this has been my worst dining experience in Glasgow by far altogether our bill was 50$ and all we could stomach was the chicken and shrimp there is absolutely NO REASON to eat here you'd be better off trusting the sonic/gas station/subway combo store in horse cave I downloaded yelp just to leave this review and I'm not just complaining for free food my experience was truly dreadful I wouldn't go back if they paid me to eat the food -7/10 the only way it could get worse is if they had bugs in the food read more

We were iffy due to past reviews but the food was great! We really loved the Yamato Roll and the service was great! I gave only 4 stars since the atmosphere was a little below what I hoped for. The bathrooms were dirty and there was a lot of clutter around making it not very pretty but since the food was a good we will definitely be back! read more

Probably my favorite place to eat in Glasgow. Same quality food as shoguns, maybe a few less menu items, but you don't get set on fire at the hibachi and the place doesn't smell of mildew or trash. Friendly staff, never had a complaint when it comes to the food, between dining in and take out, it's consistent delicious food. read more

I stumbled upon this restaurant with my two boys today. I was very happy to find a place in Glasgow that serves sushi. There isn't a huge selection of rolls, but it is fresh and the service is fast. The young wait staff are efficient and super friendly. The sushi chef was very attentive to my boys as they watched her work. This is definitely my new favorite place in Glasgow. read more

Absolutely terrible. We have tried to eat here twice. The first time we order medium rare filet mignon hibachi we ended up getting sirloin done well. Didn't go back for a year and a half. When we did go back we were seated in a booth and my side was full of soup. We immediately left, I had to go home and change my clothes because the ass was soaked. Beautiful restaurant and amazing prices. A gem of a place. No corners are cut here. Quality is top notch and the kitchen can be seen from the seating area. Parking can be tight at times. For a small town like Glasgow this is a bigger city establishment easily. Portions are good and the price was very cheap compared to nearby towns. I will return again. I should preface this review by noting that I have heard from other customers that they actually enjoyed the food when they ordered *takeout* from Yamato; this, however, was not my experience dining in. In short, after waiting a reasonable amount of time, my friends and I were served food so salty that it was nearly impossible to eat--the three of us weren't even able to finish our meals. Along with the main course, we ordered a tray of sushi that appeared to be store-bought and tasted just as stale, confirming suspicions that the sushi is not actually made in-house. This too was unpalatable. I was also informed by our waitress--who admittedly was very polite and attentive to our table--that the kitchen had no way of making any of the food spicier. A bit jarring, if you are charging $15 for food served in styrofoam and begs the question: what makes this meal worth it? The final and most disappointing experience was being charged $30+ for two meals that were inedible and very, very bland for Japanese cuisine. I would highly recommend anyone considering eating at this restaurant to arrive having adequately prepared to be overcharged for basic and un-exciting food. I like this place a lot! The food is delicious and well priced, and their sushi is really affordable and tastes great! It's a cheaper alternative to shogun or family style, but still great food! I would say Shogun is better for their hibachi, but sushi wise they are equally delicious and this place is cheaper so why not save your money? read more

As good as it gets for a small mid-western town serving raw seafood and maybe even a little better. Having only been a mid-westerner living in Ohio, Iowa and now Kentucky, I can't speak to seafood and fish the way our coastal friends can, but I still know when something is good or bad. I've always loved shrimp and that's what I asked for my birthday when I was 6 years old...I love the shrimp here. I don't think there is any alternative when it comes to Japanese/Chinese cuisine here in Glasgow--not that I've tried. No thank you China Buffet etc...I won't even try it. This place is not formal in the least and the prices are excellent. I know everything is relative, but this place performs. The miso soup, the ginger salad dressing, the yaki soba noodles are all really really good. There are several things I've yet to try but it is one place I trust to perform with our out-of-town guests. The one and only caveat when ordering sushi take-out, be sure to specifically request the sushi to be bagged separately from the rest of the meal. I figured this would go without saying--apparently not, and I once had half-baked sushi and had to throw it away. We live in Adair County but my husband works in Glasgow. We wanted to order some food to go that he would bring home for a special occasion. This turned out to be impossible because The Yamato in Glasgow has not bothered to create a website or make a menu available online like the Yamato in Campbellsville has done. We found the Yamato menu online thinking it would be the same for both places but it is NOT at all the same. Nothing we wanted to order was available. The person who answered the phone was not at all knowledgeable about the items on the menu but offered to read the menu to me over the phone. Thanks but no thanks. She said they don't get many take-out orders... gee I wonder why? What is it with restaurants in Kentucky never bothering to create even a simple website or post their menus online?? Come on! Drag your lazy butts out of the 1980's and get a clue, will ya? Oh, we did eat there one time. They didn't have gyoza on the menu and the waitress didn't even know what it was.
