I pass this restaurant every time I go to plaquemine and decided to try it today! The food was very good! It is not your traditional hibachi restaurant with the table and them cooking the food with fire and all. It's just a regular sit down and eat hibachi with no excitement lol. Overall the service was very good. My waiter was very nice and patient and gave wonderful recommendations! I had the shrimp noodles with vegetables! I usually always want yumyum sauce with it but I didn't even need it! It was great without it! The ambiance was very calming and just overall nice atmosphere to be in! Gross! Absolutely Awful! The Server was so confused on how to seat us, much less take our order in a decent time. But thats not the reason for this review. The Food is just nasty. I have heard they have GREAT Sushi but this is what I get for getting the grilled steak and chicken dish. My girl got the chicken and shrimp. Wow, I didn't think you could go wrong with this- and everything that could of went wrong: did. The steak tasted like iron, with a greasy coating of some sauce which was probably blood and oil, as the iron was STRONG. The chicken was cooked but tasted almost slimy. I did NOT finish my plate. My girls chicken was just as gross, she put it off to the side. Once she dug into the shrimp, we both knew THAT WAS A WRAP. I paid immediately and we left. My experience this time at Yamato was totally different than last time. We ordered to go food this time and we had a terrible experience all around. First, I called to make the to go order. The man on the phone had the biggest attitude. I asked him three times if this steak a bocce came with vegetables. On the third time repeating my question, he finally answered with an attitude and yelled yes at me through the phone. I was shocked because this is suppose to be a nice restaurant, not a fast food place. He tells me it will be ready in 20 minutes, we drove over there and I let him know at the window that we need extra eel sauce and spicy mayo with our order. He has the most sour look on his face and turns around and re rings up our ticket adding 4 more sauces on to our bill, which are $1.20 a piece for half empty 2 oz cups. Ridiculous. Then he basically throws the bag into my car, I grab it, hand it to my boyfriend and tell him to check and see if the sauces are in the bag that we just paid for. The guy in the window hollers "they are!" Through the window. At this point we're just staring at each other through the window, and I am aggravated. I said well can I get some soy sauce and yum yum sauce too? He doesn't say a word and turns around to grab the sauces and hands them to me. No words. No thank you, have a nice day, come again, nothing! We drove away literally speechless and angry at ourselves for leaving this rude man a tip for that terrible service. To make things worse, I'm pretty sure this man is a manager of some sort. It's the same man that always works the drive through/host stand. I use to eat here once a week. Came in on a Friday night at 7:45 pm. Closing is 10:30. When we arrived we were told it would be a wait. Even though there was only two people ahead of us. After sitting for 10 minutes the owner came back and said they were too busy and abs had too many tickets. And ask us to leave. The other owner was on the phone. I waited for him to get off the phone. I said as much as I eat here you are going to ask me to leave overs little bit of a wait. He Simply rolled his eyes. This told me he must just be to comfortable being the only sushi restaurant in town. Soon told him I would go into the city to eat sushi from now on. . I said I would never return as long as they owned the restaurant. This is not the first time the wait staff and female owner was rude to us. I will find another place to go eat sushi on a regular bases. Apparently the owners make too much money. Also not they have received several bad reviews on Facebook lately. So they have eliminated that feature from there page. You be better off to fine some place else to eat. read more

It's a fast food type Japanese hibachi. Food is really good and I live the rice. If you get the chicken or shrimp fried rice plate you get a huge plate of food. I'm always satisfied. Not of course what you're looking for if you want a fancy night out but great for pick up ! read more

I went to Yamato for lunch while in the Plaquemine area. I didn't expect much from a sushi place outside the city. Boy was I wrong. The service was good, the selection of rolls and the lunch special were great. My seaweed salad was tasty and juicy. The amount of flavor was incredible. The tuna sashimi was tender and fresh. My roll the three musketeer was packed with three varieties of fresh tasty fish. The rice was not chewy or overly sticky as you find sometimes. If you're looking for Japanese food in the area this is your best bet. It's a good deal for the amount of food you get, especially if you opt for one of the specials. I have been multiple times and I typically get the filet minion Hibachi dinner with ginger salad, miso soup, and white rice instead of fried rice (a bit too greasy for my taste). I was amazed at how delicious the sushi is here. Tastes better than any sushi I have had in Baton Rouge.

Experience was great. Best sushi i had in awhile. The Tuna Tataki is a must try on the appetizer menu.
