When I crave Nicaraguan food, I normally order from Madrono, El Novillo and in past years, Los Ranchos. Yambo is not an upscale restaurant like the ones I have mentioned, but their food is delicious and they serve so much that you can share one order for 2 people. I was very surprised to find their chicken wings to be so delicious, for sure, one of the best I have eaten. I ordered the pork with gallo pinto, maduros, roasted chicken, yucca, queso frito, for several people and everyone loved their food. This is a place that carries the very soul of Little Havana. What was this place that has a line at 3AM? With the bass still thumping in my cranium from the nights activities, it was settled, I had to find out. "Yo Uber, drop me off right here" Suddenly, I'm staring into a window pathetically trying to speak spanish. It all happened so fast and I'm frantically trying to figure out what everything is, but I want to try everything. Is that a pancake? Or a Pastry? Is this a meat or a vegetable? WOWZA. We were on our way home from attempting to go to another restaurant that was closed when we passed by this place. You really can't miss the bright colors and bright lights. We did a quick search online and found that this place was Nicaraguan, which we have never tried before and decided to give it a shot. There is a parking lot located right in front of the restaurant and a large outdoor seating area. There are two windows to order from; one for food and one for drinks. They accept both cash and card, but if your paying with a card there is a minimum order of $10. There is a large display of food options you can chose from. I ordered the carne asada with plantains, fried cheese and gallo pinto. My husband ordered pork and yuca. Both orders came with a salad and spicy vinegar base sauce (which I LOVED). It is not bad but there are better options when it comes to Fritangas in this area of Miami. Pricewise they are in par with the rest of the Fritangas so you are not saving more by coming here. Yambo is a Little Havana institution; I think it's been around since the 90s when I was in High School. I'd always been meaning to go, but between #miami and their smallish parking lot I just hadn't. Stuck at home tonight's with some work I brought, I saw them on UberEats and decided to order. Yo amo las vacas, termino medio..is Spanish for "I love cows, medium well" Nicaraguan restaurants are known for their meat and I'm an unrepentant meatatarian. My main course last night was their Carne Asada, the Nicaraguan version of Churrasco. Compared to the more traditional Argentinian version; this has a smokier flavor and was a touch drier but still delicious. The steak took up almost all of my plate, and I'm not complaining! Sides were gallo pinto (red beans & rice, compared to the Cuban Moros with black beans instead) and fried white cheese. Please get this, it is delicious and with just the perfect amount of grease. Sweet plantains came with my order, and I also ordered a side of what the Uber menu described as green plantains. However, these were just mariquitas and not actual tostones. For dessert (of course), I ordered their Pio Quinto. Ironically named for a pope, this has a cake base with a custard top, cinnamon sprinkling and a NICE bath of rum. My friend has been getting me to try more of the local Latin spots. This Nicaraguan spot was a real surprise. This is a very casual spot more of a grab and go in my opinion. The amount of food that you get for the price is the real winner here. The food is really satisfying and tastes authentic. It taste like chipotles better original version if that makes sense. Stopped here for lunch during a week day . The place was pretty much empty. They do not have lunch specials. I was surprised the menú does not have the prices . The food was ok, nothing special but it tastes good. Plenty of sides included and generous portions on general. The Gallo pinto far away from the good one and the yuca frita was kind of weird. Bathroom were clean but definitely need a deep cleaning. Service? Oh yea, they had a person who took my order and brought the food and the check. I have been on a fritanga kick lately. Why? Not many places are open late night that have such substantial and real food offerings. The other day after a late night, I decided to order via ubereats for me and some friends. Four orders of Fritanga with fried cheese delivered ran about $67 but it was money so well spent. I split the order and did two with white rice, and two with gallo pinto. The steak was piping hot and with a very very ample serving. You could easily split the portions, but honestly you won't want to. While I haven't physically been to Yambo, I heard it is a Little Havana institution so I will need to make it there soon! read more

I've been coming to Yambo for months now, since a friend of mine, recommended it to me and had me try some of their food in March. Last night I went there to go pick up an order of food that I had placed for a friend. There was an incident with one of the workers outside and the worker was very rude and very disrespectful. The worker was trying to tell me that I could not park my car outside of the restaurant or in front of the restaurant for too long and I needed to go ahead and either park on the other side or go figure out to move my car. The thing is that I'm trying to tell him that I was waiting for my order to be finished so therefore I can go inside of the restaurant and pick it up. When I went inside the restaurant to go ahead and asked the manager one of the servers who was behind the bar, who spoke a little bit of English, show me that the manager was not there. I tried to tell her what happened but she told me that she only spoke a little bit of English so when she bought the worker inside, so therefore, I can talk to him in a nice way confront him about the way how he talk to me and handle the situation. He came into the restaurant with the same attitude and disregarded whatever I had to say, and walked away. As I told the server , I have been coming here for months because I love the food and I love the establishment. It is also one of my favorite restaurants in Miami. Now because of that incident. I am not going to be coming back to that establishment and into that restaurant anymore. read more

The price is unbelievably cheap for the quality of food you get and the flavor of everything is magnificent. portions are INSANE! I always order the "Antojitos Nicaraguenses" the portion is enough to feed four people. Have been going here for years and the food has been pretty good, carne asada was tender and juicy and the prices were fair and would be on the menu. But yesterday we went with my family for lunch and there were no prices on the menu, people around us were complaining with the server about the hidden prices and service and the food was mediocre. The carne asada portions were smaller than before and we were given plastic utensils and could barely cut the meat. We had to fight the server to show us where the prices for the total came from because it looks like they made it up and the server said they had a mandatory 18% service fee. Would not recommend coming here and sadly we will not be coming back. What a shame! Use to be good. read more

Was visiting Miami for a bachelorette and we came across Yambo when we were drunk and leaving Ball and Chain. We decided to swing by and was not disappointed. Please take this review with a grain of salt, as we were very intoxicated. However, the staff treated us awesome and was very nice and attentive even though we were a mess. Be aware that there is an outside patio and an inside. I don't know where our uber dropped us off at, but half our group was inside and half was outside. Took us a while to figure out where everyone was. Again, drunk. I ordered the Asada, which was very tasty, cooked well and the plantains were bomb. My roommates and I are a fan of this restaurant. First of all, it is open 24/7! It is a hidden gem with cheap delicious food. Most people place a to go order but there are tables for you to dine at. Their carne asada, rice and beans, fried cheese, salad, and plantains were all delicious. It was a bit difficult ordering the food since my roommates and I don't really speak Spanish but the employees were friendly and we were able to place our orders without any issues. The family and I went for Father's Day and the experience wasn't great. The food isn't authentic and are cutting corners, tacos without the cooked salad that does on top, refrigerator cold salpicón. The menu don't have prices, pinol , the most traditional drink isn't on the menu. The decorations are 50% Nicaraguan, and the rest is Mexican, Cuban and other countries. BEWARE! I used their ATM inside and the machine tells you its going to charge you $2.00 - well it charged me that, but days later I checked my bank account and I was charged an additional $2.00 and then another transaction of $2.00 so a total of $6.00 they took with regards to the ATM transaction. Then when I called to speak to the Owner I was told that he only comes in at 3, I called at 3 and was told to call after 6, I called after 6 and was told he had left. I am still unable to pin the manager down and ask him whats going on - why does the ATM charge me $6.00 when the machine tells you the cost of using it is only $2.00. This is a scam .....and I plan on reporting them to the BBB. read more
