    Koi palace is the go to dim sum spot when you don't know where else to go. The prices haven't changed a lot, making a formerly most expensive dim sum spot into an average priced dim sum spot. The interior continues to provide an old school atmosphere with bustling ambiance, a koi fish pond (beloved by the children), large tables for big families and fish in tanks. The food is generally pretty good. Cantonese food is known more for balance, so even if you order their "Szechuan" dishes, there isn't a ton of spice. I'm a big fan on their XO sauce, so the XO pan fried rice rolls are my favorite. The green seaweed crunch shrimp rice roll is also quite good. Mandatory 18% service charge and the service is pretty decent all considering! They respond fairly quickly and now they have a more diverse wait staff that can respond in more languages now too!

    Came here to celebrate a big birthday and went with the banquet course for 10 people. While the food keg coming, I will say they served some unfamiliar foods. To start there was a shrimp ball and fruit salad which I was unfamiliar with but tasty. The highlight of the meal had to be the whole roast piggy, the chicken soup and the sakura shrimp noodles. The piggy was crispy and they served it with buns to make the perfect little bites. The chicken soup was boiled with herbs and other goodies making for a hearty and healthy blend. The taste was slightly herbal from the ginseng but sweet from the chicken. The noodles were also full of flavor! Since we were seated in a corner we did have good service but maybe wished our teapot was filled more often. However when prompted the staff was quick and attentive. We even had fun banter with our server about dessert! The hand roast and milk their black sesame paste.

    The dinsum here were so good and there are a lot of variety! We made reservation ahead of time and we were able to get seated almost right away. We ordered variety of dimsum and they were so good! Good flavor, lots of food. There were a lot of seating and lot of people there for the dimsum. Popular spot for hanging out. Would definitiely come here again!

    I like this place. This is a place that is in 'SF' but it won't gouge your wallet. Yet it's still got that canto flavor. The staff were very friendly and fast and took away whatever empty dishes we pointed out. The pace of the food came out quite fast tho the order seemed kind of random (got the crab claws after some of the other dishes like the lobster e fun). They also spoke canto when I asked about the sugared doughnuts. The vibe is always great! It's the same restaurant after how many years and yet it's still got a good enough to hold a wedding vibe. It's both a whole in the wall and yet it's got some really nice paintings and even a real mandarin orange tree? But the food is wonderful. The duck with the skin and the buns were great! The skin were very crispy and crunchy. The soup dumplings were also good. They were still quite hot after 5 minutes. The lobster noodles were awesome!! I also liked the fried taro with stuffing. Same for the egg lava buns. Overall it was quite a lot of food and a great banquet to hang out with family and friends. Definitely an awesome pick!!

    I've been eating here for decades. Dim sum and dinners have always been a treat and wouldn't mind the 2 hour wait for dim sum. Last night, we celebrated Xmas dinner and was excited to dine here. We called to preorder (2) crispy fried chicken and put a $50 deposit down. Its one of our go-to dishes here and pre-ordering is required. What disgusted me was they gave our order away to another table. Say what?! They f'd up majorly! Unforgivable! No crispy fried chicken. However, they came back again and gave us 1 order of this instead. So confusing! Even one of the waiters was shocked that we had it. I would had 1/2 forgiven them but it didnt come topped with deeped fried shrimp chips, which has always been a guilty pleasure to eat with the chicken. Service was at its worst. Cold water came thirdway through our meal. White rice came halfway through our meal. We had to remind them several times. The fish maw soup waa not cooked right the maw had this bongee bouncy texture that felt like I was chewing on rubber bits. It was so disgusting that I couldn't even finish the soup. The big kicker was they totally forgot about our long life noodles. And to add injury to more injury, they did not deduct the $50 deposit we made and had to ask about it several times. Most dishes were still good but with all these mistakes it can brought a big negative vibe into your soul... and I had to write about it.

    Visited on Sunday for late dinner at 7pm, there's no wait. We had the beef stew with giant bone, it's really nice to have hot soup in winter, the beef was tender and flavorful. Claypot fish head was another good choice, the fish meat was well cooked and very tasty. The lettuce wraps were mediocre, lacking of flavor. Service was meh, they're rushing you through the process.

    Came here for dinner in a weekday and they were quiet. We got seated right away and ordered half duck and friend rice with some soup dumplings. The duck was flavorful and tasty, it paired really well with rice. Portions were not bad and we did have some leftovers. Service was good and they did check in on us. The inside is standard for a Chinese place, they have a nice koi pond inside which adds to the ambience. I have also come for dim sum on the weekends and they can get really busy.

    We had reservations here for a dinner on Sunday, walked in and were seated immediately, the place was packed as always, it's Koi Palace, everyone usually comes here for dinner. The Ambiance was as you expected, a bit noisy, a few birthdays, some family gatherings, and everything in between. The service was also a bit slower, not sure if they had some tables confused, but a few of our dishes were sitting on the table next to us for a while, might have been a bad hand off or a bit busy, but a few times that happened. I've been here a few times, and I'm not sure why, the food just didn't hit the mark as it used to. The soup was good, the honey walnut shrimp was on point, but the other items weren't as great as they were before. The meat was tender but felt a bit off; the seabass was great looking but just a smudge off flavor wise. There was an ox tail curry dish in a pumpkin bowl that I forgot to take a photo of, which was really good, but everything just felt okay.

    Food is good if you stick to traditional dim sum staples. Service is what you'd expect from a busy, understaffed dim sum restaurant. SERVICE - 2/5 We arrived at 1pm on a Sunday without a reservation and waited 30 min to be seated with party of 3 (not too bad). We were sat in the very corner, so it was difficult to flag down the server as they were very obviously understaffed. It was an hour from the time of order to arrival of all dishes, so I don't recommend coming if you're in a tight time crunch. That being said, the waiter was friendly. FOOD - 3.5/5 2/5 Rainbow Shanghai Soup Dumpling Platter: pretty for photos, but that's about it. just order other dumplings if you want something tasty 5/5 Har gow: shrimp was fresh and bouncy, delicious 4/5 Shu mai: juicy, flavorful, but the pink dyed roe looked unappetizing 3.5/5 Chicken feet + spare ribs: unfortunately there wasn't a lone chicken feet dish, so had to get spare ribs too. both were delicious but for $13.80 plate portion was sooo small. 3/5 Honey glazed crispy fried chicken wings: actual wings, not just flats. imo korea styled wings are tastier, these seem to have curry powder. AMBIANCE - 3/5 If sat in the main dining area, it's pretty but we were sat in the very back corner. There weren't table cloths and wooden tables were water stained. Bathroom was dirty. There's so many other great dim sum spots in the Bay Area such as H&L Peninsula. I probably won't come back unless we happened to be in the area.

    Koi Palace (usually Milpitas since it's closer... but we occasionally go to this location as well) is usually my go-to for dim sum. It's been YEARS since I came to the Daly City location for dinner but we wanted to take my brother here for his birthday dinner. Before we dive into the food, let's talk service & ambiance. Things started off a bit rocky... we had a 7pm reservation and ended up waiting for an additional 30 minutes to finally get seated. This was for a Saturday night but dang... no one was really communicating with us (but won't focus on that too much since they were busy). We sat down around 7:30pm and safe to say we were definitely ready to EAT. Our server was very friendly and helpful, so he made the experience a lot better. Regarding ambiance, the location is definitely a bit older now. Fairly outdated and very loud but my family had fun for the most part. (Don't expect to be able to hear someone sitting on the opposite side of the table easily haha..) Food was pretty good! We tried different dishes (lots of veggies this time around) than what we usually go for. The dishes took a while to come out and came out pretty staggered - not sure if that was intentional but it felt a bit strange. Nonetheless, the food itself was good. - Abalone with truffle shavings & snow peas: yummy! Great dish with rice - was pricey but would order again. - Black Cod stir fried with Chinese Brocoli (normally bitter melon but we made a substitution): flavor of the fish was very good but expect A LOT of bones. - Longevity Noodles (yi mein) with dried scallop and mushrooms: a must for bdays! We normally get w lobster but went more simple - Soya Chicken (half portion): we normally get the steamed chicken with ginger scallion sauce but wanted something new and WOW the sauce on this chicken was addicting. Could eat a whole bowl of rice with this haha. - Stir Fried Pork Cheek: I'm a sucker for anything with XO sauce so this was a hit! - Pea Sprouts: never misses as a veggie for the table

    Our most recent BDC celebration was here Saturday. Reservation at 1:30pm for party of five. Of their several tea houses I enjoy the dim sum here and at Dragon Beaux. By the time we ordered it was 2pm. That left an hour for us to eat as they needed to set up for a dinner banquet later. Everything we ordered was fresh. As we were celebrating two birthdays we ordered the longevity noodles with lobster. It was outstanding. The other item that was great was the sesame balls with black bean paste. Hot and oozing. Parking was tight but I got a space. .

    It's been four years since I last dined here and how things have changed. From the bustling and packed dining hall to the current state of business, it's a marked change. My last visit was to celebrate my mother's table where we had two tables in a private room to the left. Now, only the main dining is open for dinner service and the staffing is a near skeleton with only two waiters and a host and cashier heading the front of the house with two people bussing tables on an early Thursday evening. After being seated, we were handed a one-page two-sided menu. A week earlier, a friend mentioned a set menu, thePeking duck set menu for $218.00 (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=48&select=RmKWVNAH6pSFez15vqRjfA); the nice part of this meal is that there are four items on the menu and you get to pick two choices from a list of eleven. Here's what we had: 1. Shanghai juicy dumplings (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=48&select=EqpyWkW7V5pGJ3ABa6ncLg) - Standard stuff and consistent with what you find at lunch when having dim sum. 2. Roasted duck slices w/buns (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=48&select=4mcTwRLZXHakFw81OUsgEA) - They also do this well though don't expect a northern Chinese style version as the skin is slightly on the soft side. 3. Warming soup for those chilly Daly City nights. 4. Our choices: 5. Recommended if you'd never tried this. Supplement: 7. Whole dried scallop w/daikon ring over pea shoots (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=3wOwY37oTMIZ4MSdJdSxDw) - Noticing our menu was light on vegetables and seeing the menu photo drew me to suggest trying this. It was as delicious as it looked. Bonus: 8. Almond tea soup dessert (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=whRl02XRqcvZDAtrU5UcYw) - I chose this in being offered a couple dessert choices. It was not overly sweet and the almond flavor was prominent. Initially, I asked our waiter whether we could pay an add-on fee to make the portions enough for 5 but he told me the portions were enough though the menu states that it feeds 4. In fact, we even had enough food to take home. Service was standard but sometimes difficult with the skeleton crew so do be patient. Our business meeting was also a delicious meal and it was nice to see a few familiar faces in the staff, customers, and the chef and owners. With their brand expansion which includes a variety of names and themes, their footprint is clearly established in the Bay Area and soon, if not already, into Vegas. If you're looking for a true experience of their flagship, you'll need to wait till the new one opens a few blocks away.

    This was our first time back at Koi Palace for dim sum in a while. There was no wait for a Saturday afternoon. We walked in without a reservation around 1:30pm. Overall, the experience was not great. Food was not good and service was subpar, especially considering they have an 18% service charge for all parties that's not considered gratuity. The food just didn't taste good. The chives dumplings tasted super oily and the Portuguese tarts were also not warm at all when they arrived. Food also took long to come! Took about 20 minutes for our first dish to come after ordering, and at this point, the restaurant wasn't busy anymore. We ordered the fish fin & soup dumpling and that didn't come for a full hour. We asked the staff if our order was ready and they told us they were making it already and to wait. After finishing all our other plates,, we asked again and wanted to cancel our order. He assured us that the soup dumpling was almost done being prepared and to wait a little bit more. He then comes over by himself and said that the soup dumpling will take a little longer, so he'll cancel the item for us and give us the check. He comes back with the check and luckily, we looked over the itemized bill because he did not remove the item. I don't know how that got missed after he explicitly said he'd remove it, but surely, what great service ! Honestly, the service charge they have feels unjustified. I also forgot to mention that there's normally a stand with a candle inside for you to place the teapot on to keep the tea warm, but they didn't even bother lighting our teapot stand. Overall, we will miss this location of Koi Palace as it has been here for so long, but we can't say we'll miss the service or the food! Hoping the new location will improve!

    They do not serve dim sum during dinner. The dinner and dim sum menus are completely different. Only some items that are carried over to the dinner menu like the Shanghai dumplings, roast duck, beef chow fun, etc.

    Asked another high end Chinese restaurant who similarly offers this. There is a fish from Japan that has fins that are similar to shark's fins that many restaurants now use.

    How much does the geoduck cost? Is there a minimum about we need to order?

    There isn't a minimum but usually it's by the weight of the product like most seafoods . 1-2lbs or whatever. Pricing is seasonal . I'm gonna guess $20-$30 a lb. but usually you can get 2 styles . Like sashimi, fried, soup

They are located in a strip mall near several different food places, bakery, and a bowling alley. This is a solid dim sum place, with no frills and reasonable prices. You order off a printed menu that's in Chinese with tiny English subtitles. You can also order off their regular menu if you want to supplement the dim sum dishes. Their food is very good, and some dishes were excellent. The service was pretty quick, and before we knew it, all our dishes were out with almost no room on the lazy Susan. The standouts for me were: + Steamed custard buns (piggy buns) - I ordered these for the kiddies, but dang they are so good. The custard filling is so velvety, it's almost like pudding. I think I detected a hint of coconut too - yum. + Beef chow fun - this had a really good wok flavor and the noodles were less wide than most. The noodles didn't clump either, and the bean sprouts were still crispy. + Roasted pork belly - the skin was so crispy and the pork was juicy. We ordered most of the basic dishes like har gaw, sui mai, noodle rolls, turnip cake, stuffed eggplant, chicken feet, etc. and they were all above average. My only complaint is if you don't read Chinese, the menu is a little hard to navigate. The English subtitles are so small that if you're looking for something, you have to scan the front and back of the menu trying to find the item. I was looking for sticky rice in lotus leaf, but found sticky rice roll and thought it was the same thing. It wasn't. The sticky rice roll was not bad, but I found the rice drier than when it's in lotus leaf. We ordered a few things by mistake because the English subtitles were not that descriptive. Overall, a great alternative to more popular places like Koi Palace. The menu may not be as creative as Koi, but you don't have to deal with the lines and you still get great food.

The dim sum menu was extensive, and they also had daily specials. Everything we ordered came out hot, fresh, and in a reasonable amount of time. One of the staff came around with a tray of baked goods immediately upon seated. We tried the BBQ Pork pastry, and it was flaky, flavorful, and just the right amount of sweet and savory--definitely recommend that one. Overall, we enjoyed almost everything we ordered. The only miss for us was one of the fried fish dishes and the green onion mantou, which was just okay. Would we come back? Absolutely. The service was efficient, the portions generous, and the food solid. Great spot if you're looking for dim sum that delivers on quality without the usual weekend chaos.

Most Chinese restaurants will accommodate a guest request so long as they have the ingredients and they know how to compose the dish. How they work out the pricing may be something else. At the table immediately behind my mom, I heard the guest ordering a Hot & Sour Soup, add Won Ton. One of my favorite mash-ups! We ended up having a very nice conversation over lunch. Seafood Pan-Fried Crispy Noodle: Decent enough but pretty flat on flavor. Just okay. Deep Fried Fish Balls: The flavor was actually there, which was a plus, but they were a bit overcooked and came out harder than they should have been. Overall, the service genuinely saved the experience. The staff were great and the vibe was pleasant. But the food didn't quite land for me and I likely won't be back. When one of the waitresses accidently knocked over the soy sauce on the table and onto the my pants, she was very apologetic. I understand as we are all human and mistakes happen. The manager came by and provided us napkins/wet tissues as well as being apologetic. I was able to go to the bathroom and wash/dry off the stain in 5 minutes. It was not a big deal at all to me and I went back to our table. When the hostess came by and said she was sorry, she also mentioned to sit on the inside of the table next time. I didn't want to counter as my mother was present as well as all the other staff were very cordial. However, when you make a statement like that and to imply that I had anything to do with the sauce getting on my clothes, it just takes turns all of these apologies into a hollow statement.
