It has been a year since I've been here and the quality has increased, if that's even possible because it was fantastic when I went the last time. We ordered the pork and chive potstickers, shumai, spareribs, chow fun, and salted egg bao. Also, a wonderful surprise was the New Year trio potstickers. All the flavors were balanced and there wasn't a repeat of spices. It was a new palate pleaser every time. I also ordered chrysanthemum tea. The total price was $70 ish dollars. It was an enjoyable meal. The place was full but it wasn't noisy. It was an odd combination. Everyone was enjoying their food and their company, yet the volume wasn't loud and I could be attentive to my husband. The only thing that would distract me was watching the magic makers through the window. They were making potstickers, shumais, and the New Year special. Every execution was quick, yet precise. The area was clean and every drop of starch or flour had a purpose. They cleaned up impeccably. I enjoyed eating at this fine establishment. Quality food for reasonable prices. The people who worked at the front of the house worked In sync. No one was without water or beverage. No one was waiting too long for their meals or their checks or even any questions to be answered. My friend from the Bay (whose family used to own a Chinese restaurant) was raving about this place so I knew it had to be legit. We stopped in for dinner after a stroll at the UCD Arboretum and found a super long line outside. Luckily, we didn't have to wait too long ourselves since we'd checked in on the Yelp waitlist before heading here (pro-tip!) Based on the reviews, I knew we had to try the soup dumplings and salt and pepper spare ribs. I was having trouble deciding between the four different options for soup dumplings but was stoked to discover after asking our waitress that the "Yang Kee Soup Dumplings" is actually a combo that includes all 4 of the different flavors (with 2 of each) so perfect to share and sample everything-- so up my alley! All of them were delicious but my favorites were the crab pork and truffle dumplings-- hands down the best I've had in Sac! The salt and pepper ribs were super yummy as well, even as someone who typically avoids deep-fried dishes as they weren't overly greasy. We loved the dumpling combo so much that we ended up ordering a second round instead of trying different items LOL but next time I'd definitely love to try some of the noodle soups and traditional dumplings :) My only critique is that they need to advertise the Yang Kee Soup Dumplings better as being the "sampler" option that allows you to try literally every single soup dumpling variety! The couple seated next to us pulled me aside to ask what we had ordered, probs because we were so visibly enjoying them and it's so tough to tell from what they chose to name it on the menu. I also really dug the ambiance, as it didn't feel too cramped despite how many diners there were and we were seated in front of the glass windowed kitchen with a view of the workers meticulously folding the dumplings which was fun to watch. My parents requested a dumpling spot for an early dinner and since we were passing through the Davis area and I had a friend who used to work here, I decided to try it out. Unfortunately, I was underwhelmed. We ordered soup dumplings, the boiled dumplings, pan-fried buns, green beans, and salt and pepper fish. The taste of everything was decent, however, I thought the dumpling skin was overly thick which took away from then taste and for the green beans, the garlic was cut inconsistently, so there were some large chunks but also some small dices. My favorites were the pan-fried buns as well as the salt and pepper fish. The restaurant was kind of hot also, especially the hallway where you walk to the restroom. The service was fine. The food came out quickly, but the waiter did forget one of our dishes and it took them a while to clear the empty plates (they were busy). What I would get again - Soup dumplings (not the best I've had but still very good) - Ma Po tofu (very flavorful and a generous serving - Yang Chow fried rice - Pork and chive dumplings - Green beans The garlic noodles were good but not as garlicky as I would have liked. This is one of my fav. spots for egg custards. I've been to all the spots and if you are a fan of these, some of the best ones I've had here. Looking at the spot from the outside it's not real impressive, but there's usually a line. When you get in the restaurant there's not anywhere to wait. I highly suggest getting on the reserve list. Inside, it's nice, alot of places to sit, but not to wait for a table. Its always full. I've had most of their menu at some point. Chili won ton's are always a hit. All the dumplings of course are great. Im a fan of the spare ribs. I go for the salt and pepper ones. The pan fried beef dumplings are not to be missed. Last time I went they had these beef puff pastries with wasabi of all things ....and they were really great! Even regular dishes like Chow Fun or Green beans are going to be great. Yang Kee Dumpling is definitely a favorite in Davis. We attempted to come awhile back at noon and the waitlist was over an hour, so after a couple months we decided to give it a try, the smart way! We came during opening, but you can also join the Yelp Waitlist. We came Sunday morning and shortly after, each table was getting filled. The staff here is really friendly and share their recommendations. We had a party of 6, so we ordered a lot of dishes to try. We got the pork soup dumplings, pan fry pork buns, HK shumai, garlic noodles, sautéed green beans, salt pepper spare ribs, honey walnut shrimp, pineapple bao, and steamed salted egg custard bao. We were recommended the pineapple bao because that's what Yang Kee is known for and they only make a limited amount a day, so we had to give it a try! This review would be super long if I went into detail about everything, so I'll keep it as short and sweet as I can. The pork soup dumplings were portioned well and had a good amount of soup. The pan fried pork buns are a little hazardous with how easily it is to burn your mouth. I recommend making a hole and pouring the soup in your spoon because it will take forever for it to cool down. So you definitely need your patience with this one. The family really enjoyed the garlic noodles and spare ribs. The garlic noodles were not shy with the garlic, but not overpowering. The spare ribs were decently sized and the meat was not rough. I thought the honey walnut shrimp was on the smaller size when it comes to portion, but the shrimp themselves were also a good size and I loved the walnuts! The shumai was decently and I have no complaints. The pineapple bao was definitely different from what I've had before. It had actual pineapple chucks inside which added a great texture. It wasn't too sweet and balanced well. I was shocked that the steamed salted egg custard bao didn't come in the classic white and was a little fancy with them being black with some gold accents. I loved how the custard was still warm and gooey. Only reason I put a four star is because the green beans came at the very end even after the dessert. We ordered another order of garlic noodles and that came out way before the green beans. I wish they would have acknowledged they forgot about it or apologized for it coming out so late. Tried this place where it is close to my daughter's apartment. Open at 11:00 AM and accept waitlist. We went to run some errands before and put our name on the waitlist while still traveling. Estimated wait time was from 14 mins to 28 mins. Upon arrival, just checked in with one of the staff and wait until being called. Actual wait time was not too long, when we were called, there was a lot of tables were cleaning up. Sat right next to the open kitchen. We were able to watch the whole process of staffs wrapping the Xiao Long Bao. It is a clean environment. One star was taken away b/c one of the kitchen staff was not using gloves like the rest and the mask was not properly worn. Fast ordering and food came out quickly. Their Xiao Long Bao was very yummy. We noticed the use of spice to marinate the meat is different than other stores which made them special. This is my third time dining at Yang Kee, and it has never disappointed me. The food is always fresh and consistently delicious. As a Cantonese, I'm quite picky about the quality of dim sum. Many Chinese restaurants serve pre-made frozen dim sum, and you can really taste the difference. At Yang Kee, however, every dim sum dish tastes freshly made, with excellent texture and authentic flavors. My partner and I had such an amazing experience here last night, and we left feeling so warm, happy, and excited about our meal! From the moment we walked in, the whole staff was kind and helpful, and I really want to give a HUGE shoutout to Andy. He truly made our night! We ordered the crab soup dumplings and the curry chicken dumplings, and they were incredible! Super hot, juicy, and full of flavor! We also tried the salt and pepper fish and the salt and pepper ribs, and both were unbelievably delicious. The garlic noodles were also a hit, and we loved the little cheese detail on top. I joined the waitlist ahead of time, and luckily, the place wasn't too packed when I got there--though I can see how it could get busy. Definitely recommend using the Yelp waitlist before heading over so you don't end up waiting too long. I ordered the har gow, xiaolongbao, and wontons in chili oil, plus a fried rice dish. The dumplings were solid--pretty flavorful, fresh, and well-made. The wontons had a nice kick without being too spicy, and the xiaolongbao had a great balance of soup and filling. The fried rice, though, was just okay--nothing bad, just not super exciting. Portions were pretty big, and we even had leftovers. Service was really fast, especially with the dumplings and hot tea. The vibe was nice too--pretty open space with a cool view into the kitchen, which made it feel more fun and lively. My partner and I have been very huge fans of their red bean buns. I love red bean pastries and to be frank Yang Kee Dumpling used to be the undisputed champion. Unfortunately in 2025 it seems like their recipe was changed. They are less red bean and more sugar. I hope this was not a cost cutting stunt from management but they have not been the same since. At first we chalked it up to a bad batch but they have been consistently worse in flavor. Sad to see this amazing place loose its flair but at least the buns are still cute. Delicious! We were on our way to Tahoe and decided to stop by Davis for lunch and we came across this place on Yelp. We ordered pork and shrimp XLB, garlic green beans, sui mai, shrimp dumplings, gravy beef chow fun, shrimp chow fun and pan fried baos! The pan fried baos were my favorite! We were driving home from Sacramento and wanted to stop to grab some food. Yang Kee was highly rated and not too far from the freeway so we decided to give it a shot. It wasn't too busy and we were seated right away. The service here is great - very efficient, yet courteous. The food on the other hand was just okay. We tried the pork soup dumplings, the pan fried dumplings, and the gravy chow fun with beef. The chow fun was decent but really lacked the wok hei flavor that makes chow fun so delicious. The pork soup dumplings were okay as well. As others pointed out, the wrappers are just way too thick so everything feels a bit doughy. The soup in the dumplings was nice and porky and the filling was good as well. The pan fried dumplings had even thicker wrappers - maybe 1/2 cm thick in some places. Way too little meat to dough ratio. I'm honestly not too sure if there are better options in Davis since we were just driving through, but we've had much better soup dumplings in Sacramento and of course in the Bay Area. If we were in the area again and felt like noodles or dumplings, we might give this place a shot again and try some of the other dishes. The three items with tax came out to be roughly $50 - fairly expensive by college town standards so I'm not sure who's eating here :) read more

This was one of the most upsetting restaurant experiences our family has ever had. Before ordering, we clearly informed the staff about our child's severe nut allergy and were explicitly assured that the food contained no nuts and was safe to eat. That assurance turned out to be dangerously wrong. After eating the meal, our child suffered a serious allergic reaction that required medical treatment. What is even more disturbing than the incident itself was the restaurant's response afterward. When we contacted them to inform them of what happened, our concerns were brushed aside rather than taken seriously. We also sent letters regarding the incident and never received a response. Food allergies are not a minor inconvenience--they can be life-threatening. Restaurants have a responsibility to provide accurate information when customers disclose severe allergies. We trusted the assurances we were given, and that trust was misplaced. Mistakes can happen, but the complete lack of accountability, concern, or follow-up after a child suffered a severe allergic reaction is unacceptable.
