We can into Well Season on a Saturday evening for my son's birthday dinner he chose Well Season…read morebecause he likes their Dim Sum items. We usually. One here at least a handful of times per year. Their food is generally good and their portion size is large. This summer they are running a special (10% off your bill, plus additional 5% if paid in cash). For a Saturday evening, they did not have many diners, two other larger groups, a couple smaller tables of patrons and a couple few takeout orders. The main reason for coming here is for their Dim Sum items, but some items are not available after 2pm. They have a pretty extensive menu for non-dim sum items. Most of their food is pretty good including the dim sum items. Portion size is large, so there is usually leftovers to take home. Today, the service is lacking quite a bit. Had to wave down the server many times during our meal, to order, ask a couple times for water and missing napkins, water refill, didn't check if we needed more hot tea, boxes for left overs, getting the bill, etc. Another ding for them is that we were given and billed for 2 items (chicken buns and steamed long beans) that we Did Not Order. I didn't not complain about it because we were fine eating the extra food, but that was annoying! Overall dining experience was 3/5 stars. Food was a solid 4/5 stars. Service was 2.5/5 stars. There are so many Chinese food options now in Davis. Not sure what's up with the service, but they really need to step that up if they expect customers to keep coming back.

Siu Mai: This was classic & well-executed, and there was a strong mushroom taste which I loved. Shrimp Dumplings: These were also classic, flavorful, and fresh. Jelly Fish & Sliced Beef Tendon: I loved the texture and spiciness of the general dish, and they were seasoned well. Beef Noodle Rolls: These were okay in my opinion, but silky and tender. Pan-Fried Turnip Cake: I loved the crisp outside, and it was soft on the inside. It did not feel too heavy and better than other places I've tried. Green Beans: These were slightly oily, but the portion size was generous for the price. Preserved Egg & Pork Congee: The congee was okay, but it was comforting and smooth and still had a good flavor.

It came out fast and hot. The spring roll that came with the set is delightfully crispy. The Mapo tofu is delicious. I really wanted to try their malatang but that'll be next time. I look forward to revisiting and trying more!

My kid mentioned they usually are very pack and people would dine outdoor, but I guess we arrived early so there wasn't any wait time. Ordered few items, food came out very fast and the tastes are not bad at all. Beef Fried Rice Noodles: How do you differentiate if this dish is good or not, it is about how much excessive oil that's left on the plate. The stir fried was good, not too greasy, and they marinate the meat well. Unlike other Chinese restaurants, this place's meat was good. Only they could stir fried with even higher eat to create more "wok air" Sticky Rice Stick with Brown Sugar: First time trying this dish, so not sure what to expect. But it does seem to be a dessert to me, my comment would be higher if the rice stick is more chewy. Hot & Sour Shredded Potato: This is common dish from northern part of China. The way they prepared was awesome. The potato was not starchy and the seasoning is just right. A bit greasy but this is actually my favorite dish! Shrimp and Pork with Chives Dumplings: Meat is fresh and dumpling wrap is great too. Each dumpling size is not too big and wasn't torn. Taste is okay but maybe try another filling if I visit again. I would come again to try out other things on the menu if I'm visiting my kid again.

When I have gone in they are very nice and because it's in a tucked away area it's pretty quiet. The food is great, but the 5 spice beef noodle soup absolutely slaps and is worth the trip if you enjoy this entree. Most of the time when you order a soup like this it can be loaded with gristle and fat, but not here. They load you up with pure meat here, and I'm here for it. As for the other food, my kids love the wontons and pot stickers. The fried rice is great, I feel like they add more egg than usual and I'm down for that. Their other soups are great too, but it's no beef noodle soup.

I went from a thin top to a medium weight sweater. We arrived in Davis I grabbed my jacket to pair with my sweater. Today was a day spent exploring Davis to see the California Conference for the Advancement of Ceramic Arts (CCACA). What a great Conference. We come each year for this Conference and explore Davis every time we are here. After exploring the first building of the show it was coming on time to eat. We looked around the current shopping center and my husband didn't see anything he was craving. He said we'll go more into town and look for a noodle place. He said he remembered one from our last visit, down one of the alleys. Walking up the street we saw a couple of advertisements. A sandwich board was on the sidewalk for Davis Noodle CIty, the exact place we were looking for. The little Noodle Shop in the alley. We weaved through the other businesses, past the dumpling restaurant, past the outdoor seating and to the front door of the Davis Noodle City Restaurant. The out door seating looked really welcoming, but it was chilly out so we opted for eating inside with the other table that was occupied. There were 3 parties eating outside when we arrived. When we walked inside we were greeted and told to take any table. We choose a table in the corner. The menus were under the glass table top, keeping it clean and easy to read. Each place setting had its own copy of the menu. After looking at the menu, remembering what was offered on the sandwich board in front, and cross referencing it with Yelp Reviews we started ordering. We opted for the Five Spice Beef Noodles, and I asked if that was a good option and she said it was their top seller. The Yelp Reviews were only ok for that dish, but I took our chances. The second dish we ordered was the Dan Dan Noodles She tried to upscale us to the one with vegetables, but that dish was a cold dish so we when for the standard Dan Dan Noodles. Both dishes came out quickly. The Dan Dan noodles were not spicy as I anticipated, which was good, I wasn't really looking for spicy. I liked the flavor and realized that if you mixed it up there is a sauce on the bottom that is really tasty. Dan Dan Noodles ($8.25 a steal) is a solid dish and I highly reccomend it. It's a great bowlful of noodles. If you are hopping for other ingredients you are out of luck, it's 100% noodles with a sprinkling of peanuts on top and a sauce on the bottom. The Five Spice Beef Noodle Soup ($12.75)was as described in the reviews. It comes with American Broccoli and carrots. The beef is so good it melts in your mouth. The broth is minimal and lacked flavor. I'd think that it's advertised as Five Spice that it would have more flavor. I don't reccomend it if you are looking for a strong flavor. If you are looking for great meat, that melts in your mouth, but is also a little fatty then you have the perfect dish. Both dishes came with fresh noodles, none of those dried and rehydrated noodles that some places serve. The noodles on both dishes were different and pleasant. I highly reccomend their fresh noodles. Customer service was good. She came to check up on us and was pleasant. Parking is street parking. And they have a bathroom on site that is clean and well stocked.

I didn't catch her name, but she was an older woman and she took such great care of us. She recommended the wor wonton soup and told us how the wontons were made in house. They were soooooooooo delicious. I would come back just for that alone. We also ordered prawns in lobster sauce, Mongolian beef, pork soup dumplings, and chicken chow-main. They were so good!! All the dishes had so much flavor and everything tasted fresh. We were so full, but she recommended some sesame balls and let me tell you... OMG they were everything!!! It was my first time trying them and I can't stop thinking about them. The red bean paste has the perfect sweetness and texture to it. I can't wait to go back and try all the recommendations she gave us!!
