My mom was a new patient of Dr. Betty Yao and had a very disappointing experience before even seeing the doctor. After multiple calls, she finally got an appointment scheduled for Thursday at 10:00 AM. She arrived early at 9:45 AM and checked in. She patiently waited for more than half an hour. Since she had an Uber scheduled for 11:00 AM pick up, she politely asked the front desk how long the wait would be. Instead of giving an estimate or trying to help, the front desk immediately told her, "Then you won't be able to see the doctor today," and asked her to reschedule. When my mom asked how much time she was expected to reserve for a routine appointment, the answer was "2 hours." Seriously? What is the point of making an appointment if patients are expected to wait two hours for what is usually a very short visit? And for a new elderly patient relying on scheduled transportation, the response felt dismissive and incredibly unprofessional. Long waits can happen, but the attitude and lack of respect for patients' time were unacceptable. If your office routinely runs this far behind, patients should at least be informed ahead of time instead of being turned away after arriving on time. Very disappointing first impression. read more

My review is base solely off of the fact that I was in need of a new internal medicine doctor. I checked with my insurance and she was a provider that was in network in my area. I was specifically looking for a female doctor so I was very excited. I gave the office a call and it went straight to voice mail. Waited a day and called again. This time a friendly woman answered the phone. She took a majority of my information over the phone. She let me know that there were no appointments for new patients for a few months. I said okay and she let me know that some one would call me back to make the actual appointment. Well, by the time I received a call back it had been nearly 3 week and I had already been seen by another provider. I am with Dr Yao for 10 years long. The reason I choose her because she can speak Chinese. I always have to wait for 2 hours to see her even I have an appointment. I have never complained to her until today. I have OB appointment right after my annual physical check up with her. I came in 15 minutes early before my 9:30am appointment, I told the front desk I cannot wait long as usual. I have no questions with her . And my insurance doesn't allow me to do my lab work in her office. I just need to the paperwork to do my blood test at outside lab and follow up the result. I want to leave on time. But I still not able to see Dr. Yao until 10:30am, a hour later. She came in, and told her the office time management is not really nice. It seems no one reflected my request. She said most of patients are elderly. They always have a lot of questions. They are scheduled ahead of me. She can't help to speed up. If I need to in and out to check up, I may look for another doctor. I tried to tell her a long wait time is not occasional issue, 2 hour wait is happened all the time in my 10 years. Today is my 1st time to ask for being on time but it still failed. I will listen to her and seek another doctor but I would say if most of her parents need longer diagnosis time, then the front desk should scheduled each patient appointment have 20-25mins gap, not 10-15mins. I called Dr. Yao for an appointment. As requested by Dr. Yao's office, I email a copy of my insurance to the office. On the phone and in my email, I asked the office to email to me all required patient forms. After two days, I called the office. Yao's office said that my email was not received. I re-emailed the insurance card to the same email address. Yao confirmed receipt of my email including my insurance card. I asked for the patient forms to be emailed to me. Three more time I called Yao's office requesting all of the patient forms. The forms did not arrive as of the day prior to my appointed. I called and emailed Yao again the day prior to my appointment. The patient forms arrived in my email at 4:30PM; my appointment was at 9AM the following morning. I checked in at Yao's office at 9AM and sat in the narrow lobby. I sat. At 9:35 AM I noticed that patients with 9:30 AM appointments were being called. I asked why I was not called being that I have a 9 AM appointment. I was told that Yao's office needed to call my insurance. I needed to continue to wait. I left. Wow. The receptionist here is RUDE. I am not even visiting the doctor. I'm here with my grandma who is seeing the doctor. They were rude to her on the phone when she called, telling her that she would probably have to wait a very long time because Mondays are horribly busy in a way to make her feel bad. That rubbed me the wrong way. Why not inform her that there might be a wait rather than make her feel bad about it? Once we got here, she didn't even have to wait. The only people in the waiting room were waiting for their wives who were seeing the doctor, not actually waiting to SEE the doctor. As I'm sitting here, I heard the receptionist make an outbound call to someone then complain to someone else in the office, threatening about how "it's okay, they will just be sent to collections" as that will be his revenge on the client for whatever reason- all within earshot of other patients. Her receptionist is very rude and no courtesy. One time i missed my appt, asked her if they do reminders and told me they stopped doing that. Dr yao is nice but so busy , didn't have time to examine . She spent her time writing on her computer. One time she gave me a wrong report that i have multiple polyps based on recent colonoscopy result, she wanted me to have another colonoscopy soon. I i disagreed since just told by my GI doc that result was all normal. Dr Yao handed me the copy and found it was a wrong patient filed on my record. Same thing happened to lab result. I have been a patient of Dr Yao for the past 3 years, aside from some of her staff I'd recommend her as a primary car provider her level of care is quite good and she listens and responds to her patients, sounds good so far. well no, not really I'm guessing my opinion is she's busy seeing as many patients as she can book and it feels like her assistant runs the office. you'll read mention of her here in other yelp reviews, described as non responsive, rude I think you can add untruthful if my estimation is correct based solely on her answers to me about issues on refills and yes you'll read comments from others on that here too. in the 3 years with that office prescription refills went smoothly a hand full of times, the odds of not getting the answering machine calling the refill line are slightly better than winning the lottery so I can't say she won't pick up. my experience when I do gat her on the phone is I'm met with curt I don't know how else to describe rude like don't bother me now responses... my feeling anyway. I think possibly my objecting to her Wednesday only policy day for prescription refills annoyed her and it's intentional. I like my doctor reachable to call or return a call, I've never succeeded getting past the staff she doesn't take calls I'm told? my wife and I both experience long waits well past our scheduled appointment time averaging an hour or more every time I can understand occasional emergences playing havoc on schedules but this is the norm. you have to be seen twice a year if you feel well or not or no prescription refills without being seen. I've used Walgreens for year without a hitch for prescription refills not any more, I've been blaming the pharmacy for all the delays now I think they were just taking blame for the office manager doing things on her schedule or whatever. Oh, appointments don't count on less than a week on average so become familiar with the local urgent care. This doctor is all about getting your money. There is a copay for your follow up visit. I had blood work and someone left a message for me to make an appointment to go over my lab results. Is it life threatening? Is there anything seriously wrong? No one will tell you anything but you should at least know if your blood test were abnormal and what the concern may be. I strongly DO NOT recommend Dr. Yao. List couple reasons from my experience. 1. During my first time visit, they lied to me that my insurance (UnitedHealth) covers ultrasound fee so that I do not have to pay anything. However, when I went to the place where the doctor referred, they forced me to pay $113 for only the left side breast because they don't want to bill me later. 2. The worst service ever is after I did the ultrasound. I have been waiting my result explanation for a week! I called the radiology office, and they said my result was already faxed to Dr. Yao 2 days after I did ultrasound. I was really shocked and disappointed with the follow-up service. 3. The most surprising thing is when I called to the Dr. Yao's office. The receptionist was extremely impatient and rude. She conveyed this unbelievable message: I am not the person who is in charge. No matter the result is good or bad, you have to come to our office and see out doctor! Overall, I had really terrible experience with this hospital. I had a horrible experience with Dr. Yao, so much so I am making an effort to let all my friends and family know not to come here. When calling the office to follow up on my blood work results, the receptionist informed me there was some abnormality with some of my blood work and that the doctor requested that I come in person to go over the results. They said it is not something they could discuss with me over the phone. Most of the doctors I have been to had always called me to tell me the results, so at this point I figure it was something important and I went ahead and scheduled the appointment. The day of my appointment I had waited 30 minutes in the waiting room and an additional 30 minutes once I was in the patient room. When the doctor finally made it to me she said, "Your blood results came back great, you are only vitamin D deficient so just take some vitamin D pills." Are you kidding me?! I waited 1 HOUR, paid a COPAY, so she could tell me I am perfectly healthy and to buy some over the counter vitamin D pills?! I'm sure you all can understand my frustration now. She said it was against her office policy to make any phone calls discussing results - OK, I understand if it is something life threatening, but being vitamin D deficient isn't. I've spoken to all my colleagues at work under the same health plan and they all had other physicians that either called them with results or could access them through an online portal, WITHOUT A COPAY. Anyway, I also had requested the doctor to test my blood type (the week prior when getting my blood drawn) and she said she would go ahead and test for it. Come to find out, her incompetent nurse assistant wasn't able to find the blood type testing code for Quest, and Dr. Yao's excuse was, "Oh you have to go to Quest to get it tested, we can't test your blood type in this office." Really? It's a simple blood type test, and why didn't she tell me that earlier when I first requested for it? I called Quest as soon as I left the office and they confirmed that the doctor's office is definitely able to request for blood type testing. At this point, I did not even want to waste any more of my time dealing with Dr. Yao or her incompetent staff, the next day I did some research and switched to another primary care physician. Regarding appointment times and being seen, this office is not too bad but pretty awful. My appt time is at 10:15. This is also on the first day the opened for the year so I was expecting things to be ready. I had to wait 1 hr just to be seen by the doctor. Not only that, but people who came in later than I did even got seen before me. 2 in fact. I asked the lady why.. she responded "the room that she went to is farther from dr Betty but don't worry your room is right over here and you'll be seen shortly". I didn't quite understand what that had to do with why I waited 1 hr but that's okay. Later on, she tells me with a rude manner that it was because they got a new system and it apparently malfunctioned. This is unfortunate, but should definitely not happen first day back. We then got seated and proceeded to only wait for 20 minutes so that was fine. My mother also had a check up as well and as the doctor asked her if the info was correct, it was already incorrect. Keep in mind we literally just got the vitals and everything done in the room to the right of us. The staff in general wasn't very up to par and it looked like they were talking shit when they whispered to each other when I went to the rooms. However, staff aside, the doctor is very kind and pays attention to her patients. She did start a conversation with me regarding personal things which kind of seemed condescending, but I can't say for sure if it was intentional or not. Tl;Dr 1 hr wait, eh staff, decent doctor P.S. I skimmed over the reviews posted here and I have to say that wasn't my experience at all. I drive a considerable distance just to see Dr. Yao. So I make sure I have everything I need before I leave, both home and her office. I also make sure I really need to go in, or if I have an alternative method to remedy my ills. Arriving at a medical facility is always the least favorite thing for me to do given my past experiences. Since I have been seeing Dr. Yao for a few years now, I believe we have a healthy respect for each other. Something you don't usually get from a sin city doctor. Too few and far between in my opinion. Her staff might be seen as brisk at times but accounts receivable is not a pleasant task either. My least favorite thing to do, and avoid it at all costs. Jon is a personable guy if you just give him a chance. The rest of the staff is pleasant and professional as well. Dr. Yao is not your old fashioned doctor for sure, but she is methodical, studious, astute and most pleasant. I do not particularly care to have an online presence nor write reviews, especially given the possibility my doctor becomes too famous and I then have a harder time getting my appointments with her, but in this day and age finding the right doctor is paramount to ones health. THIS DOCTOR IS THE WORSE I HAVE EVER BEEN TO!!! i cannot express my anger and frustration towards this doctor. the office was messy, the staff was unprofessional and honestly shes a damn joke. she barely spent any time with me in the exam room. she barely looked in my ear, she patted me ONCE. when i told her i had a baby 5 months ago, she said " oh so you`re healthy then." after her staff interrupted my exam 3x she picked up her computer and left, didnt say a single word to me letting me know she was leaving and not coming back. then her nurse came in asking me to fill out a survey for her and i asked is she not coming back anymore because i wanted to talk to her about my anxiety. She came back 15 minutes later, backing away as i was talking to her then just prescribes Xanax. i asked to unlock the ipad again to finish my survey and they said oh you're all set! 2 days later i asked if she could fill out fmla papers for me and she told me to see a psychiatrist. like Im fucking crazy. Great doctor. Don't mind the other reviews. Shes nice and gets straight to the point. It is a small office so she writes referrals for blood tests, X-rays, etc. so don't be surprised. Easy to get an appointment and if they can't they definitely try to work with you. I had to change my insurance so she was out of my network. However, I referred my husband because she's in his network. He's had bad doctors in the city, but hasn't had an issue since he started seeing her for the past couple of months. I first came to doctor for medical problem. the doctor gave me the exam and told me to go Steinberg for xray and ultrasound. they said that they will send the referral to Steinberg. I made the appointment and went 2 weeks later to Steinberg and when I went that morning, the people at Steinberg said that they never received the referral. the people at Steinberg called the dr. yao office to get referral . when Steinberg finally received the referall, I realized after the xray that the tech xrayed the wrong area. I asked the tech and they said that this was what was requested on the referral. the tech told me that the result would be sent to the doctor within two days. after two days I called dr. yao office and asked for result. the receptionist had an attitude on the phone and replied that I have to make an appointment to get the result. I made the appointment and saw the doctor. I told the doctor what happened at the clinic and she replied that Steinberg was bad and now referred me to pueblo medical for the lower stomach ultrasound. this time I asked the doctor for a paper referral. I did the ultrasound with no problems at pueblo. I called the doctor office to get the result about one week later and the receptionist at the doctor office was growing exceptionally rude. I have come to realize that it was not the fault of Steinberg for xraying me in the wrong area but It was the doctor office for not giving the correct referral. the referral had to come from the doctor to the staff. I have found that the staff has a very poor customer service. read more
