I was Yelping sushi omakase places for the past two days. It's so hard finding a reasonable one for the price and experience. I ended up picking this place because the price wasn't crazy expensive ($195) per person for a 17 course omakase and i also got to reserve sitting at the sushi bar in advanced ! I recommend sitting in the corner near the wall because you don't have to be next to other people hehe (: and you get a better view of the show ! Me and my boyfriend had an amazing time, they even sang him happy birthday at the end of our meal so thoughtful of them. It's a really special experience watching how they make every piece of sushi ! I felt like I was watching a sushi documentary the sushi was delicious you won't be disappointed! You will be full enough to the point where you don't feel fat, you feel light after eating here. The quality of the fish is amazing. They put so much care and effort into each bite! The service was perfect And the sushi chef was so funny, friendly, and informative about each fish we were eating (: The ambiance was nice, it's an Intimate setting for a dinner date!! Loved every minute of it! You have to find street parking though (: The bill for two people came out to ($503) The tip is included automatically hehe For a special occasion this is a nice option! Worth the money and fun experience!(: highly recommend coming here The food pictures speak for itself everything we were served

WOW. This has to be the best omakase place in Los Angeles. WOW. My husband and I are from NYC and we love omakase. We tried a few similarly priced places, but none of them were places we would return to... except Yasu. Yasu is priced extremely well for the quality of their ingredients, the rarity of the fish flown in from Japan, and the incredible service. You're served piece by piece at the sushi bar, and Chef Yasu explains each piece for you. There are some truly beautiful pieces that also taste delicious (see photos). We also had a langoustine!!! Such a delicacy and served beautifully. I'm sad we didn't come to Yasu on the earlier part of our trip so that we could go again. We came to Yasu at the end of our trip. We'll definitely be back. You definitely will not regret coming here. You'll probably be wondering when you can come again. UPDATE - just read someone's review about bad service. The service from Chef Yasu was INCREDIBLE. He was always making sure we were taken care of. In terms of the server, she seemed a bit inexperienced but she definitely did try. Chef Yasu made sure everything was very well taken care of though!

Chef Yasu takes you on an epic omakase! We came here for a birthday celebration and we enjoyed every bite. The fish is fresh and the cuts were super big! The wasabi and the finer was something else! I loved it to the point where I asked for extra. It's fresh wasabi! Service by Chef Yasu and his staff are spectacular. You do need reservation for the special omakase but for other tables you can do walk in. Quiet and personal ambiance!

The first course sweet shrimp was surprisingly amazing, very refreshing and delicate. The uni deserves a photo, which floral decoration, it is a perfect June dish. Chef is friendly and humble. Highly recommend.

Came here for my friends birthday and tried the omakase, and we had a delicious experience. The service was great, and the head sushi chef was fun on top of being very skilled. We had octopus that tasted so tender, almost soft like fish, one of the top 3 monkfish liver I've ever tried, and the sweetest crab meat dipped in broth. The place was upscale yet had a great vibe, especially with sake cups bigger than my palm. Would definitely go back again just to get more monkfish liver!

Love their nigiri, chef is really nice and welcoming. Waitress constantly adding green tea for everyone. I will definitely be back.

***Dinner Review: Saturday, 3/14/20*** Yasu Beverly Hills was my final meal out before the mandatory restaurant closures due to coronavirus, and it was a good one. Relatively new to Los Angeles, Yasu is a highly acclaimed sushi bar in the Toronto fine dining scene. Yasu Beverly Hills, which opened less than a year ago, is now their second location. On a comparatively quiet stretch of Robertson Blvd, it does feel partially removed from some of the more hectic neighborhoods close by. Yasu offers two omakase-only dinner options, priced at either $130 or $180. We opted for the $130 option, which included 21 courses, 15 of which were nigiri. At the end, we ordered two additional items that were not served during the regular omakase (Shira-uo/Icefish & Buri/Wild Yellowtail). The sequence went as follows: 1. Kanpachi (Amberjack) Sashimi 2. Hotate from Boston 3. Spanish Mackerel from Japan 4. Scallop Himo 5. Kasugodai (Young Sea Bream/Young Red Snapper) 6. Ankimo (Monkfish Liver) 7. Shima-aji (Striped Jack) 8. Hotaru Ika (Firefly Squid) 9. Sakura Masu (Cherry Trout) from Hokkaido 10. Kaki (Oyster) from Canada 11. Toro-Ikura bowl 12. Red Snapper soup 13. Akami (Lean Bluefin Tuna) from Japan 14. Chutoro (Semi Fatty Bluefin Tuna) from Japan 15. Otoro (Fatty Bluefin Tuna) from Japan 16. Santa Barbara Spot Prawn 17. Premium Santa Barbara Uni (Sea Urchin) 18. Saba (Mackerel) from Japan 19. Anago (Sea Eel) from Nagasaki 20. Tamago 21. Shira-uo (Icefish) 22. Buri (Wild Yellowtail) 23. Yuzu Ice Cream Best pieces of the night: Kasugodai, Shima-aji, Akami, Chutoro, Otoro, Uni, Anago With only two seatings per night (at either 6pm or 8:15pm), and a limited number of bar seats, the chef is really able to focus on the flow of the meal and pay extra attention to each customer. While I didn't catch his name, the chef we were seated in front of was friendly and spoke good English. He was very informative and able to answer the many questions we had, such as where various fish were sourced. What I liked most about my omakase at Yasu Beverly Hills was the wide variety of neta. Our meal featured many different kinds of seafood and preparation techniques. I thought the quality and sourcing of the ingredients was great, and enjoyed the traditional simplicity of each piece. The decor and ambiance was very conducive to the central focus on the food. Service was exceptional throughout, and the restaurant itself was spacious, with a high-end feel. So, where does Yasu rank amongst the LA sushi greats? Maybe in the top 10. There's definitely no shortage of top notch competition in this city, but I give a definite edge to places like Sushi Tsujita and Mori Sushi. The biggest area for improvement I see for Yasu is the rice. While I thought the temperature was fine, neither of us were too wild about the taste, perhaps due to its sweet flavor. That being said, Yasu Beverly Hills definitely provides a 5 star experience worth visiting.

Took the girlfriend here for her birthday dinner (2/19/23). Everything was delicious. The akamutsu/nodoguro was probably my favorite piece.

We visited Yasu for our 5th wedding anniversary and the whole experience was beyond wonderful! Chef Yasu prepared our 17 course omakase with delicacy in every bite.. our absolute favorite was the monk fish liver, it was soft like tofu and the freshness to die for. Chef Yasu was also very funny and humble man, he had some inside jokes to share which made the experience even more amazing. Thank you for a memorable meal and unforgettable night!

My husband and I came here for a celebratory dinner on a Saturday night. I was able to get a reservation for this place somewhat last-minute (the day before). Although Yasu is technically in Beverly Hills, it is not in the nice part of Beverly Hills. There is a lot of paid street parking near the restaurant. The restaurant is small, with a bar counter and some tables. When we came, we were seated immediately. The service was nice. They didn't check our vaccination cards. Yasu only has a 18-course omakase option for $180. The first course was a sashimi course, that I didn't like. Everything else was good, and I liked that the chef would show us the fish first before he cut and served it. They also had shirako, a delicacy of cod fish sperm which I'd had in Japan, but never eaten in the U.S. I appreciated this unique offering. While we had a good dinner, I do think there are other omakase options that are cheaper and better quality.

Came on a Saturday night, was sat at 1 of the 2 tables behind the bar itself. The fish itself was ok, nothing exceptional especially for the steep price. There was quite a long wait between each individual dish around 15-20 minutes, so we ended up being there for over 2 hours. Would not recommend coming here super hungry otherwise you will be waiting and waiting and likely not leaving full/satiated. There was only 1 server for the entire restaurant while we were there, he was quite busy. One of the last of fish pieces was filled entirely with small bones (my boyfriend's piece was not though), which ended the meal on a poor note for me.

Omakase as if you are in Japan for a very reasonable price! The hubby surprised me with dinner here for my birthday and it was delicious. The omakase was very well planned. The flavors were simple, elegant and without any crazy fancy salt or condiment (in a good way). It is just great sushi! Price $130 per person. I love being able to taste two different types of uni (Hokkaido and Santa Barbara) side by side and also the three different cuts of the tuna (otoro, chutoro and akami). The monk fish liver was very memorable and almost felt like I was eating foie gras! Another diner also gave the same comment. And I usually don't like ankimo. The scallop was one of my favorites and I love how we get to eat the side of the scallop so it is not wasted. And it was cooked over the grill perfectly with a crunchy texture. Yum! We also tried the sake pairing and it was very good! You get 5 different sake for the tasting. All very smooth and refreshing. You can share the tasting if you like which is what we did since we are both light weights. Service was great. We had a great time!

I recommend coming to Yasu for a decent Japanese traditional omakase experience around BH area. We booked this place on Resy, one day before. They have two timings for dinner: 6pm and 8.15pm. We chose the 6pm as omakase normally lasts about 2 hours, so we ended about 8pm. A good amount of time; perfect pacing in between each course not too slow & not too fast. There are 17-course and each of them are unique on its own. Ask more about it if you're curious to the Chef, so you'll have a pretty good understanding of what you're eating & where it comes from! We love this place specifically for its ambience. A small restaurant but delivers a fancy yet nice comfortable atmosphere. Great for small party: 2-3 people normally. But they do have tables for larger parties, make sure to give them a call. For the food, We feel that everything here is great & fresh! But, personally we prefer omakase that serves more variety. The fish that come in each course is pretty thick and some are less delicate/soft in texture than others. I can say that the food could be better. However, we do feel that this is a personal preference. We find that other people seem to enjoy a thicker cut of the fish and less soft (or melty) as we prefer. Yasu definitely is a perfect place for that type of preference. Favorites: (1) Monkfish! (2) Saltwater unagi (3) Tuna Uni (4) Toro (5) Tamago! I definitely recommend coming to Yasu for great quality of omakase & friendly pricing! Chefs are really nice and service is good as well.

So... I'm a bit lactose intolerant. This place did NOT hurt the tummy…read more A friend invited me here. I was afraid that everything was going to be extremely heavy, like French cuisine can be with all the cheese and butter. But I ordered the Combo of the Lemon Butter Chicken Ramen and a side of the Miso Teri Bowl (in case the ramen would be too much for me), and I was blown away by both dishes. The Lemon Butter is NOT heavy at all. It felt light and savory, but had a depth of flavor that's hard to identify because this is a dish I have never had anywhere else before. I can see why it's the most popular item on the menu. I took the side of Miso Teri Bowl home for dinner as the ramen was filling enough. There's a hint of wasabi in the dressing they drizzle over the shredded green onions that elevate this dish from other Teriyaki Chicken bowls I've had. Just DELICIOUS. I'd come back to Tonsho just for this rice bowl. My friend got the Dan Dan Ramen which he said blew his mind. He was surprised by the lightness of the broth, which is unlike the Chinese Dan Dan which is usually made of heavy creamy sesame paste. He actually drank most of the broth, and didn't feel like he was cheating on his diet. Additionally, the design of the restaurant, from the layout to the choice of bowls and utensils reminded me of a certain 2-Michelin Star restaurant in Culver City. The service was bar none. The waitress was attentive and thoughtful, even getting us a glass of water after we had been sitting there for another hour after paying our check. We never felt rushed or pushed out. Five stars, period. Coming back for more.

We came in on a rainy day thinking this would be a cozy sushi and ramen spot to warm up, and instead it turned into one of those experiences where you're annoyed before the food even hits the table. It was not busy at all when we walked in, and there were multiple empty tables in the front section. We were seated in the back and asked if we could sit in the front instead. We were told no because the roof was leaking. Okay, fine. We sit down near the sushi bar and immediately notice it is extremely warm. Like uncomfortable, stuffy, why is it this hot warm. We came to warm up with ramen, not feel like we were trapped in a heated room. I then noticed that none of the front tables we wanted to sit at actually had any water dripping on them, which already made the explanation feel questionable. About five minutes later, a party of four gets seated in that exact front area we were told we could not sit in. Nobody had left the restaurant. Nothing changed. That was already frustrating. We finally speak up again and say it is way too warm and ask if we can move to the front. Suddenly it is no problem at all. We get moved. No water leaking. Still raining outside. So what was the truth, because it clearly was not the roof. Now let's talk about the food, because this is a sushi and ramen bar and that should be the strong point. We ordered a couple of appetizers, a bento box, and a ramen. Everything was incredibly bland. Like shockingly flavorless. The sushi had no punch, the ramen had no depth, and the overall taste was just flat. It needed salt, seasoning, something. There was not even salt on the table, which honestly felt like a perfect summary of the entire meal. For the price point, this was extremely disappointing. The only reason this place is getting two stars instead of one is because of the staff who were actually working hard. The servers were attentive, quick, and clearly doing their best in an uncomfortable environment. You could tell they were on edge, but they were still on it and responsive whenever we needed something. That effort did not go unnoticed and they deserve credit. Without them, this would have easily been a one star experience. It also was not just me. I came with two other people and all of us felt the same way. We spent around one hundred dollars and walked out confused about how a sushi and ramen bar could miss the mark this badly on both comfort and flavor. Between the weird seating situation, the temperature issues, the noise, and the bland food, this is not a place I would return to or recommend. Two stars only for the staff. Everything else was a letdown.

We shared a bowl, but honestly, I would've happily eaten a whole one by myself if I had known how good it was. The prices were pretty reasonable for the area, and portion sizes felt fair. Service: The staff was friendly. Service was smooth, and our food came out in good time. Overall: A nice casual spot for sushi and ramen in the Fairfax/Melrose area. Good food, friendly service, and decent prices. I'd definitely come back, especially for that ramen.
