    THE NOZAWA TRUST ME
    Rachel L.

Sugarfish is like the In n Out of sushi restaurant, the quality is consistent, it never disappoints. They have locations all around. There are obviously better places, but also come with a higher price point. * Wait time could be longer if you trying to walk in on a weekend, we waited for 30 mins. So make reservations if possible We both got the Nozawa Trust Me, the portion is enough to make you feel full after the dinner. Everything is fresh, the nori hand rolls are great (prefer the toro more to the snow crab one). Everything is a solid 7-8/10, favourite is the Tuna and Chutoro Sashimi, scallop nigiri and the Hirame sushi that comes with yuzu ponzu sauce. It's a staple for sushi and won't disappoint, if you want a casual sushi meal. Ambience and service are okay, nothing exquisite. It's a casual spot that's clean and has great quality control, there are always better places but this won't go wrong.

I love Sugarfish! It's a very approachable place for people new to Omakase and a good reliable spot for more seasoned Omakase enjoyers. It's always very consistent. The fish tastes fresh and the rice is perfectly prepared. I always order the Nozawa Trust Me and I feel like it has the perfect amount of food. I 've been to multiple locations all over California, but the Beverly Hills location is the one I've most frequently visited. They are all extremely solid and consistent. Great service, always good food, and a great spot for some casual Omakase.

I had a great time at sugarfish. We had a party of two, arrived at 830, and were seated within 25 minutes. We were celebrating a birthday but they do not do any special dessert or drink for birthdays. We both ordered the tasty me and it was fantastic taste and value. The fish felt fresh and each piece was well marinated. It truly was too much food and I struggled to even finish the dishes. I can't wait to return for another meal the next time I'm in town! NOTE: the tables are pretty close together so conversations can be a bit difficult to have if you struggle focusing in loud environments.

Fine dining ambiance with luxe interior and high class service. My friends and I came in immediately after watching the dodgers win the World Series at a bar close by and were quickly helped to a table before closing. We tried to be quick with our orders and did their Trust Me menu option which features rounds of quality sashimi, edamame, and lovely hand rolls. I had some of their green tea to help ease my throat from the World Series cheering and chowed down all the plates so fast i couldn't help it! I was pleasantly surprised with the chunky and delicious quality of the fish for an arguable outstanding price. You're getting premier bites, upscale service in a beautiful dining room. The plates came out fast and their presentation was excellent. The attention to detail and focus on the customer was obvious. I'd love returning to dine here. Their staff was friendly, the space is romantic, and it's a quick stop for a sushi fix!

Not sure how it took me this long to finally try SUGARFISH, but it was honestly well worth the wait. Anything from the Sushi Nozawa Group has to be amazing. I went to the Beverly Hills location on a weekend and this spot was packed. We were lucky to be seated so quickly! I started with an iced green tea (refills are free and you can take a cup to go) which was delightful. I split the Nozawa Trust Me with another person and it was the perfect portion size. The courses started with edamame. Then came tuna and chutoro sashimi which was insanely delicious. The rest of the courses were albacore sushi, salmon sushi, toro hand roll, chutoro sushi, Japanese yellowtail sushi, New Zealand sea bream sushi, Hirame sushi, and blue and dungeness crab hand roll. WOW. We also added a scallop sushi which was so sweet and fresh. Everything was incredible, can't wait to come back again.

The best sushi experience we've ever had. From the incredible service (our sake cups were NEVER empty, shoutout to the GM Sue), to the multiple rounds of delicious, unique seafood, to the genuine passion from the head chef, it was one of those evenings that left a lasting imprint. And the ambiance was a perfect blend of traditional Japanese cuisine and a modern, exclusive LA atmosphere. We can't wait to go back. Could not recommend this place enough.

First time going and it was amazing! The fish was so fresh and melted in my mouth. I ordered the nozawa trust me box and I loved that they brought each set out at a time so you didn't get everything all at once! Highlights were the tuna and chutoro sashimi with ponzu and chives. I didn't really enjoy the toro hand roll but the crab hand roll was perfection, it had just the right amount of sweetness using the blue and Dungeness crabs! Everything tasted fresh, clean and high quality and the I loved the mood lighting while enjoying a great meal.

Sugarfish Beverly Hills lives up to its reputation when it comes to quality. While I've heard people say it can be overhyped, the fish truly speaks for itself. Every bite was incredibly fresh, clean, and perfectly prepared -- the kind of sushi that almost melts in your mouth like butter. Simple, unfussy, and focused on letting the fish shine. Def would come back!

I came here with 5 friends on a Tuesday night for dinner. There are no reservations available and you must have all members of your party present to be seated / moved off the waitlist. Parking in this area will pretty much have to be paid; there is a $10 public parking garage across the street if you park after 6 pm. SUGARFISH is famous for their pre fixe menu in general, and I opted for the "Trust Me" which includes edamame, several rolls, hand rolls, and sashimi. Ponzu tuna sashimi 4/5, I liked the fish and it tasted fresh but I think they overdid it a bit w/ the citrus sauce Albacore roll 5/5, but rice not well packed, split up when held immediately by chopsticks Salmon roll 3/5, nothing special Yellow tail roll 2.5/5, while soft it was overly salty Scallop roll 4/5, soft melts in mouth, strong yuzu Tuna Tora hand roll 3.5/5, I liked the warm rice but the tuna wasn't anything special

Brandon the host was great! Both hosts were so sweet actually! This was my first time dining at this location. I was with a group and they were a bit rowdy, but the staff was polite and service was great. We didn't wait long at all for a table. Food was delicious!

What's the best time to beat the rush on a Sunday?

You can go right when they open (11:30am). With all the new locations open, the wait is not as crazy as it used to be. I would also go during non-lunch, non-dinner times...like 2p-4p is usually a good time to grab a table.

What time do they open for dinner? What's the best time to go to beat the rush on a Sat eve?

    3pm is dinner

Do they let you bring in a birthday dessert?

    Do they take reservations ever?

    Gluten free dishes?

Sushi and sashimi... rice is gluten-free

    Are there Vegan options?

No. This wouldn't be a place for vegans.

My friend and I were a bit boozed out from the night before, so we stuck with a handful of sharable platters including California rolls and ceviche, all tasted amazing. Nothing was too heavy and the portions were all manageable, not too small or too large. The outdoor seats were very cushy and comfortable, it's perfect for sitting with your fur baby, and the restaurant provided water bowls upon request as well. The staff was friendly, professional, and welcoming throughout the evening. There were some delays in getting a few of the dishes to the table, but the service itself was still good and the servers did their best to take care of us. The food was fresh, high quality, and definitely enjoyable. However, I'm someone who loves fine dining and high-end restaurants, so I tend to be very picky when it comes to reviews. While everything we ordered tasted very good, there wasn't a single dish that really stood out as unique or unforgettable. Nothing made me stop and think, "Wow, I've never had anything like this before." The food was delicious, but not necessarily memorable. The pricing is on the expensive side, but that's also what you would expect for a restaurant of this caliber and location, so I don't consider that a negative. Overall, we had a nice evening, enjoyed the food, and appreciated the service. I would absolutely consider coming back in the future to try more items from the menu. Maybe there are some signature dishes that we missed this time around. If a future visit impresses me a little more, I could definitely see this becoming a 5-star review. For now, it's a solid 4 stars from me.

I was expecting more balanced and fresh flavors. On the positive side, there were a few dishes I did enjoy. The mushroom salad was very good, and the cucumber salad was fresh and enjoyable as well. Those were the highlights of the meal for me personally. The atmosphere in the restaurant was pleasant, the place itself looked nice, and the staff were friendly and attentive throughout the evening. We were in the area for my son's doctor's appointment and discovered this place nearby. What a bonus! If you're anywhere close, it's absolutely worth a visit. The sushi here is next-level. You can immediately taste the quality of the ingredients--the freshness of the rice, the fish, and the attention to detail in every bite. I started with salmon and tuna nigiri, plus a salmon roll that was cut into small bite-sized pieces. Honestly, I was popping them into my mouth like candy. Everything was incredibly fresh and delicious. They also have a great selection of hot foods. Right when you walk in, you're greeted by freshly prepared unagi (eel), which looked amazing. They also offer katsu, and other ready-to-eat items. I grabbed a Spam musubi, and wow--it may be the best Spam musubi I've ever had, even better than some I've had in Hawaii. The Spam still had a slight crispiness, the egg added richness, and the seasoning brought everything together with an incredible umami flavor. What I love most is that the place reminds me of a Japanese convenience store (konbini)--but an upscale version. It's like Tsukigi market had a store in Ginza. You can buy fresh seafood, ingredients to make your own sushi at home, or simply grab a meal and enjoy it there. The quality throughout the store is outstanding. The atmosphere is great too. There's always a buzz of people shopping for sushi or enjoying their food outside in the seating area. It feels lively and authentic. One suggestion: try to get there early if you can. They had so many ready-made sushi trays, rolls, nigiri, and prepared foods available, but a lot of them were already nearly sold out by the time I got there. I noticed a sign saying items are made fresh regularly throughout the day, which is a great sign of how popular and fresh everything is. Still, if you want first pick of all the goodies, I'd recommend arriving earlier. My only real complaint is the parking. The lot is small, and during busy times you'll probably need some patience. I visited on a weekday during rush hour, but once I got my food, it was completely worth it. The drive back to Simi Valley flew by because I couldn't stop eating and thinking about how good everything was. I honestly can't wait to find another excuse to come back. This place is such a treat. Eventually, a lovely girl finally came to my aid as I awkwardly stood there to find this manager, and she made the worthwhile effort to do that. The initial idiot made a quip, "Oh there he is", and I shook my head. It should also be said that the manger isn't exactly a brain surgeon either. They hire privileged idiots with no mind for common sense for the front and regular idiots managing these places. Their sushi and other dishes also looked cheap showcased under their plexiglass. Rockpool sounds a little generic for a sushi spot, but the quality of the fish is quite delicious for the value. In particular, the lunch omakase is probably amongst the best sushi deals I've had for a sitdown spot. I'd definitely take it into consideration over let's say... Sugarfish. People often talk about how "fresh" fish tastes at sushi restaurants, but I feel like the best raw fish is often aged to an extent. The taste of the fish here is good, but I don't feel that they always use the best cuts. For example, the otoro was tasty, but it was not as marbled as I'm used to seeing. That said, another critically important and often overlooked component of sushi, particularly in handrolls and nigiri, is the rice. The rice here is delicately warm, pairs well with the fish, and has a pleasant, slightly sweet and vinegary taste. Simply delightful. The miso soup was also quite delicious, with a hearty, deep, set of flavors in the soup stock, and the scallop hand roll here was so good, I forgot to take a photo before devouring it haha. The lunch special should be enough food for most folks, but you're always welcome to add additional items to it! Now, is it good enough for me to try the more expensive dinner courses? Debatable, but it might be... just barely! The value proposition is hard to ignore, though. It's certainly one of the best deals you'll find on the Westside.
