OMG! I was served a BIG bowl of Wor Won Ton Soup w/ Noodles! Yat Sing Restaurant is a Chinese restaurant located in a shopping center on Woodside Rd in Redwood City. Okay, I heard this place has good won ton soup, big portions, and they brag about their potstickers. So I came here for dinner on a warm and sunny Monday. First off, I didn't experience any rude customer service. I think they read the negative reviews and fixed the problem. A young man greeted customers, took orders, and served tables. He was outgoing and chatty. He seemed to treat everyone like we were regulars. I ordered the Wor Won Ton Soup for $15.75. It's just one size, no small or large. For $2 extra, I added thin egg noodles. Of course, I had to try their potstickers. Price $11.75 for 6. My bowl of Wor Won Ton Soup w/ Noodles was huge and tasty. Lots of goodies, tender meat and seafood, and lots of fresh noodles. This bowl of soup is a meal. I'm really sorry, but I didn't think the potstickers were really that good. They gave me all my favorite sauces.....soy sauce, vinegar, hot chili oil and hot sauce. They were good, but not great. Not enough seasoning on their own. On the window it says: "BEST POTSTICKERS IN TOWN." Well I haven't tried the potstickers at the other chinese restaurants in Redwood City, so maybe these ARE the best potstickers in town. There were 4 of us with different temperaments. We each ordered something and shared. There were green beans, honey walnut prawns, lamb, chow fun, and of course the best potstickers in town. I'll tell you what, I was not expecting everything to be as tasty as it was but everything was fresh and came to our table hot. There was always something extra with the way it was prepared that impressed me. The green beans had jalapeño that added an extra kick, the potstickers had extra thick noodle wrappers, the chow fun was prepared very well. Everything was made with care. The waitstaff were friendly and brought the food out as soon as it was ready. There were families celebrating a birthday or enjoying meals with the kids after their game. Food: 5/5 It was hard to choose what to get and not go overboard because we were so hungry, but we ended up getting the following: - Calamari: my husband loved it! Super crispy and seasoned perfectly - House Special Chow Fun: Delish! The gravy was how I like my chow fun and the noodles were thick. Loved that the veggies had bite. - Black pepper beef lunch plate: so good and peppery! Fried rice was good, too! Super simple and a perfect compliment to the beef. Only thing for me was there were so many onions, lol. I'm sure if someone fancied onions, this would be their go to dish. - Szechuan beef lunch plate: my husband got this one and he really enjoyed it. I didn't taste it, but it looked really good. I'm not gonna rate the ambiance, but it was clean. It could use a bit of an update, however, all the best Chinese food spots have the feel this place did, so if they changed the decor, it wouldn't share the same charm. The only reason why I gave it 4.75 was because our tea pot didn't look so clean and when the tea was poured there was a bit of a layer of oil on top. She kept trying to justify how things are so expensive now so her potstickers need to be expensive. Would never return here. The dude at the front was super nice and patient, he can probably tell it. It was my first time there, and didn't know exactly what to order, but I did have an idea based off TikTok, so I ordered the honey, walnut prawns, always a banger, they're spicy garlic, string beans, or something, also a banger, and then the one I was really excited about was the wings that they had on their menu, I forgot the exact name. They had like a certain extra layer of fried batter that was giving the wings, a good texture, along with the side of their sauce to dip the wings in, and it was fire. My order took about 15 minutes, maybe I should've called in, doesn't really matter, it was only 15 minutes, and it was a good amount of food for just me lol. I only did take out, so I can't say much about the inside, but seems like a chill place , it's next to the Michaels and the round table and stuff. Overall, I'm gonna have to go again! The food looks unappetizing. The portions are super small and the food is expensive. You can get better food at other restaurants. The staff only gives you 1 napkin. I've been going here since high school, but I moved out of the area 5 years ago and hadn't been in a while. Every time I go I order their lemon chicken. So of course I got it this time and it tastes just as I remember. It's the most perfect lemon chicken I've ever had. The sauce is is so bright and citrusy, and they include some veggies like onions, carrots, and I forget what else julienned. They're only lightly cooked and maintain their freshness and crispiness which contrasts well with the lemon flavor and chicken. The chicken has a beautiful light breading, and is tender. One dish is like 1.5 meals for me but it's hard to not eat it all in one sitting. Staff is friendly and it feels like the same family establishment I remember from my childhood. Unsure if it's just a lunch special thing or if I chose a poor item, but I was surprised with my experience, not that I was expecting anything. Sweet and Sour Chicken (Lunch Special) - on the bright side, the chicken is not super greasy while still being fried. Besides that, the rest of the dish was a bit sad. Unlike normal sweet and sour chicken, there aren't any bell peppers. There's barely any onion too. There's maybe 8 pieces of onion and celery in total. Food was also not hot, barely even warm. Tried this place for the first time it was really funny because as soon as we walked in the lady wanted us to order and she told us to hurry and stood in front of the table until we made our order. It gave a bad taste already before we even tried the food. This also led us to order a lot less because we felt so rushed as if she didn't want to help us due to her " lunch" Anyways the place is really pretty in a good plaza but the service was just rude, the portions are not too big but the food was good. I think the food here is OK. Redwood City (and to some extent the Bay Area in general) seems to be lacking good tasty Americanized Chinese food that I find on the East Coast. I ordered chicken and broccoli, cashew chicken, and spicy eggplant. I thought everything was just ok? I felt like I didn't get a lot of chicken in my chicken and broccoli, mostly broccoli. My husband commented that they used a lot of cornstarch in their dishes. Flavors overall seemed mild and I used a little bit of added salt. Rice is not included. Overall I guess if I were really dying for Chinese takeout this is an easy place to pick up food given the fairly large parking lot and the okay prices. read more

Went to dinner with my family of 5 (4 adults 1 child) The service was great, but the food was all right. I would give it a four, but they charged us gratuity at 18% When clearly on the menu, it says for parties of six or larger. I brought it up to the guy at the counter. And he told me " sometimes we charge when it's a group of five" I generally leave a good tip and have been coming here with my family for over five years now. First time .. takeout on a weekend I was tired. Takeout came quickly. We ordered a set meal because I felt like having some soup tonight. Egg rolls were crispy but extremely oily. The oil was dark brown. I had a bite but had to pass due to the amount of oil and color . I loved that the cabbage was shredded with carrots and lots of veggies but needed a lighter wrapper. ( can be found in a local grocery store in the produce section) Takeout portions are pretty small and was expecting more food in an order based on the pricing and compared to restaurants of similar offerings. Favs? My favorite is the cashew chicken so far. Lots of nuts. Wish less corn starch was used in the sauce. It coagulated. I would like to "eat in" the next time so I can give a better assessment. For now I'm rating this restaurant a three and hoping to raise the rating by visiting in person next time. This rating is just for takeout and for the set meal item. They always give me the smallest size box for any kind of meat!! Medium size for a vegetable and the larger one for rice! Or chow mein I guess is the cheapest this is how I see it! I like this place. It has a wide variety of selections. My coworker and I come here almost once a week. We usually order their potstickers, Mongolian beef, and fish filet with tofu. We tried their west lake beef soup today and it was super yummy! The only hipup is they give very little portion of rice. We asked for two bowls but the rice only came in one bowl. I was still pretty hungry after we finished dinner. I also ordered food to go for my partner but was shocked to see how small the rice container was. My partner was still hungry as well so I ended making more rice at home. Rice is cheap so I don't know why they are so stingy! :( read more
