If you're on the southern part of Laurel, you will find Dumpling and Dough. There is quite a bit of competition on this street, but Dumpling and Dough did not disappoint. There is a bit of fusion going on here and I did order accordingly. Service was pretty decent. They were prompt to get water out to me and checked in appropriately when I needed anything. I ordered Thai Papaya Salad, Beijing Pot Stickers, XLB Pork soup dumplings, and the pan fried Pork Buns. In general, all of the foods had wonderful texture; especially the pan fried pork buns! The papaya salad was well put together and nicely made. I am a sucker for papaya salad in general. The pan fried Pork Buns were my favorite thing I had. They perfectly cooked them and had plenty of "juice" in them. I've gotten better and being patient and waiting for them to cool down a bit so I don't burn my face off. Haha The potstickers were pretty good. I really appreciated the crisp sides that helped hold their structure together. The XLB also were made well. I felt like they had plenty of soup in them. The place itself was clean and the vibe was pretty chill in there. I did go around an hour before they close. I actually appreciated the vibe as I was trying to relax. came here for lunch with my family- the restaurant is bright and cozy with a patio outside. service was great as well, staff was friendly and our food came out fast. we had to order the pork xiaolong bao, which were great and we could see the chefs making them by hand in the back. if you like a thicker skin on your dumplings, you'll love these. the pan fried pork buns were delicious as well, although I would liked it to be soupier inside, same with the XLB. we also ordered the crispy fried tofu, spicy wonton soup, and dan dan noodles. the wonton soup and dan dan noodles were so flavorful with szechuan spice- definitely recommend those if you like that! overall, I'd say it's a solid place with authentic chinese dumplings. I'd already been do Dumpling & Dough two other times for takeout. I knew the Beijing Potstickers were amazing so I decided to head back to try more! I'd also already had their amazing Dan Dan noodles and Tomato/Egg Noodles. But this time I needed a soup! And being that the place is called dumpling & DOUGH and I'd already had there noodles, I figured this would be a good bet. I arrived in the welcoming but cozy little spot. Immediately greeted and seated by Felix, our very sweet and attentive server. I was between the shrimp and Szechuan noodles, but really wanted a soup. So I asked Felix if I could get the house Szechuan soup with shrimp and he said yes! I was so excited. But little did I know...my group had ordered the jalapeño bites, Beijing potstickers, and cucumber salad to start. Everything came out quickly and was delicious! And then the entrees came...the noodle soup is HUGE! I was prepared to eat a little bit and have to deal with the guilt of leaving most of it behind. But then I tasted my soup...my tried and icky feeling self immediate felt refreshed and comforted! The Szechuan soup had the perfect amount of spice, numbingness, and comfort. The noodles have the most perfect bounce and chew with each bite. The soup very easily landed its way into top 5 best soups I've ever had! I finished most of my bowl! The broth was the most heavenly broth I might have ever tasted. And I loved the addition of kale for freshness and bite. I could have this soup every day! At the end, we also got an order of the dark chocolate xlb. The melty dark chocolate was perfection. My husband also had a very delicious green curry that packed the most gentle but noticeable kick. Our order: scallion pancakes (very good - we LOVED it!) crab / pork XLB - not a very strong crab taste, but very juicy and each had a little tin under it to catch any escaping tasty juice (mostly stayed intact though) scallion noodles (good and huge serving but could be a little more strong scallion taste, not the best I've had) dumplings - really good as well and they had chicken / corn dumplings which are very child friendly - I had chive and shrimp ones. Both were excellent. We stopped by at 5PM on a Saturday and it was mostly empty but filled up before we left with a few parties waiting. It's not the biggest space so big parties might have to wait. Tasty, cheap, fresh Chinese food tucked away on the side of San Carlos downtown. Honestly, I wasn't sure what to expect when I showed up -- I've had a lot of mediocre Chinese food served at similar restaurants. A big issue is when they try to "Americanize" it to the tastes of the local customers. However, I can confidently say that the taste here is quite authentic and the beef noodle soup definitely fit the bill. You can definitely still taste the difference between the beef noodle soup and the beef noodle soup at say, Liang's Village in Cupertino -- Liang's definitely has a much more premium product with richer broth and noodles with more bite. But Liang's is also almost $10 more expensive for each bowl. For the price paid, and also accounting for the fact that you can literally see them making the food fresh behind the window, I would consider this a win. My family decided to try Dumpling & Dough for lunch over the weekend. We were the first patrons inside around 11:45am. When we walked in, I noticed immediately how nice and clean the restaurant was. The host seated us promptly at a window table, which allowed for a lot of natural light. The settings on the table were quite modern as I noted that the plates were half circles, which was very unique. As for the food, we ordered the Szechuan avocado salad, Szechuan cold noodle, boiled black pepper beef dumplings, pan fried pork buns and the Beijing pot stickers. Before our food came out, the server brought us complimentary cucumber salad to start, which was a very nice touch. It was crunchy and cool; a nice way to start the meal on a warm day. The cold noodles came out first, and the serving was huge! It was hard to mix well since the plate was overflowing with cucumbers and chicken. The sauce was savory and mild in spice, that even my daughter who can't tolerate spicy foods was able to enjoy it. The black pepper beef dumplings said it included 10 pieces, but we received 11. No complaints there! The wrapper was not too thick and you can tell that they were handmade. The meat was soft and seasoned well and the dumplings even had soup inside. The potstickers were a bit of a let down. I would probably skip these next time, as they weren't crispy enough for my liking. The filling was tasty though. I really enjoyed the avocado salad, which came with tofu, minced jalapeno peppers and cilantro. It was a fusion dish that was refreshing and perfectly seasoned. Highly recommend if you're an avocado fan! The pan fried dumplings were the last to arrive. It was just the two of us for Xmas Day this year and it turns out that D&D was open, so we decided to give them a try. Started with the shrimp and cilantro egg rolls which were thin and nicely crispy. Loved them. Next we ordered the shrimp and chive dumplings which were hot and full of juicy filling. After that were the pork xlb (we tried for pork and crab but they were out unfortunately), ... these were also really delicious and came in a choice of four or six. Really liked this spot! It's all of the classic dishes you'd find at a dumpling spot in the Bay, with multiple kinds of dumplings, noodles, buns, and more. Felt like a Din Tai Fung alternative, albeit a bit more mom and pop shop-like. Our favorite thing here was strangely enough the truffle brussels sprouts! They were fried to have crispy edges and felt like popcorn, but the saltiness of them was perfect and fairly addictive. The pork and crab XLBs were also great and felt like your standard good soup dumpling. I also really liked the wood ear mushroom salad because it came with white wood ears (which you don't usually find) and made things more texturally interesting. They also threw in a dessert on the house, so we went with the dark chocolate XLBs. They were VERY rich and decadent, and I kind of wish there was something on the side to help offset that richness. Not to be outdone by their soupy cousins, they're bringing their A-game too. But the Beijing noodles... oh my! These thick, gooey noodles with their subtle garlic flavor had me contemplating whether it would be socially acceptable to face-plant into the bowl. (I resisted, barely.) They've got these fancy little heating plates for the tea that make you feel like you're participating in some sort of ancient ritual. Every table had one, and I caught at least three people trying to figure out how to sneak them into their bags (kidding, mostly). I started my day at 6am, working some overtime & attending an art gallery afterwards. I think I ended up here around 3:30pm yesterday, 12/13/25. My girlfriend & I chose Dumpling & Dough because we love dim sum & needed something quick to eat since neither of us had eaten all day. I also don't eat meat & she does, so somewhere that accommodates both of us is a must. The place was completely empty which was great because, again, neither of us had ate all day. We were seated right away by a male server & another party of two came in & sat right next to us. As we were still deciding, the server took the other party's order. When we're ready, the server comes to take our order. He takes my girlfriend's order first, she ordere the chicken noodle soup. He checks if it's okay if it's bland. She says that's fine. I tell him I'm going to have the green vegetable curry. Then I tell him we're going to share the green onion pancake and as I'm telling him this, he cuts me off to tell me "Ladies, you're already ordering a lot of food." Like, excuse me? We both just pause. I say "We'll take whatever we don't finish to go." And then I also order the dark chocolate XLB for us to share & that completes our order. Before we even get our food, he has completely ruined our experience. My girlfriend texts me to tell me that she heard him say something similar to the other table, I'm shocked they have this guy out here working with people. Maybe 20 minutes later, the male server leaves & a woman takes over. We are relieved. The other party also gets their food. They have only ordered two entrees and one dim sum dish. Although, no matter what anyone orders, comments should not be made about their order. It takes us a full 50 minutes to get our food. They are not bringing things out as they finish them. I don't know if the male server didn't put in our order or what, but it was ridiculous. The food unfortunately didn't hit the mark to make up for the wait time, and nothing could have made up for the earlier remark by the male server. The party next to us also put in an order for two additional dessert dishes with the female server. No sly or weird comments by her. Perfectly normal. Unfortunately, the male server comes back while we are finishing up what we are going to be eating there. We decide we will not be interacting with him at all. We ask the female server for a few to-go containers and the bill. He's cleaning up the table next to us & making comments under his breath. Super uncomfortable. Then as he's dropping dirty dishes walking away he's cursing. I get we are the only people in the restaurant but we are still customers in the restaurant, have some class. Overall, had the food been out in 20-30 minutes and just been alright & we had the female server? Would've been a 4 star for sure. But the male server made it a nightmare experience. Walnut Shrimp: Well-cooked shrimp, I personally really liked the texture. There wasn't enough sauce to coat the shrimps however. Probably my least favorite dish. Cucumber salad: Very refreshing and the sesame oil dressing is addicting! I added some of the excess sauce to the chili oil and it added a nice, sharp aspect. Came for lunch on the weekend. Restaurant was mostly empty except for a few tables. We ordered the beef noodle soup and pork dumplings. Beef noodle soup was massive - easily enough food for 2 people to share. The soup was flavorful and hot, the noodles were chewy and bouncy, and the beef was tender. The pork dumplings were also good. Food came super quickly. We also appreciated that when we asked for boxes, our server boxed our food for us and gave us a nicely packaged brown bag to take home. My boyfriend and I came here Friday night because another spot we went to had too long of a line. I'm pretty happy that we ended up coming here because this spot is pretty good! The tables are a bit cramped though since it's a small restaurant, I was constantly worried I would get spilled on since we sat right in front of where the waiter grabbed the food from the kitchen. We ordered the Dan Dan Noodles, black pepper dumplings, and the demon wings. The waiter got our noodles wrong at first and offered to comp the noodles but my boyfriend doesn't like cucumbers so they made the dan Dan for us. Highly recommend that dish, it was my favorite of everything we got. The demon wings were really good but wish it came with more pieces for the price.
