    Crispy Tofu
    Jose Jorel B.

Food was good but a little different than what I am used to. Demon Wings was my favorite. Hot and Sour soup was just right, not too sour and not too spicy. Dan Dan noodles had the right texture and delivered a different experience with shredded chicken. Crispy Tofu was also good but not as crispy as I expected. Dumpling and Dough is a good addition to the Chinese food options in San Carlos.

Tried this place for the first time. Waited about 20 min for a table. They had indoor/outdoor dining. The potsticker and sugar pea leaf with garlic were good. We also tried the beef noddle soup and pork xlb 6 pcs which were okay. Service was also just okay. They missed one of the order so had to cancel it. But seems like it was ready just didn't reach our table.

Great service and delicious food. The shengjianbao were fantastic, juicy, and crispy. Kiddo loved the scallion noodles and hot sour soup. Staff was very kind!

Came for lunch. It really is a small place, but that made for snappy service. I'm talking we dropped utensils to the floor twice accidentally and they've swooped by to first hand the replacement then pick up the dropped item. Just loved how fast and friendly service was. Got the beef noodle soup (not in the least spicy, but had hints of mala), scallion noodle, and shrimp and chive dumplings. I found it strange that the noodle dishes had kale in it, on the other hand, I also did like that it came with sound additional greens. I think I prefer yuanbao in Millbrae but would come back if I was in the area and craving some dumplings.

The foods continues to be great but a word of caution for to-go orders - this was our 3rd takeout order in a row that took significant longer than the quoted time. The last two were supposed to be ready in 20 minutes but took an hour!

First, their customer service was excellent. Also, they offered complimentary hot and sour soup. Even with that, I can't fool my fellow yelpers by giving them a 5 star. Sorry, dumpling and dough. 1. Angel wings- overcooked and very mild in taste (not a whole lot of flavors). They also didn't include the clear rice noodle in the stuffing (2/5) 2. Crab XLB - pleasntly surprised by the crab flavor. However, the dough was a little thick especially the top part. Warning: eat these asap while they are piping hot, otherwise, they would taste fishy. (3.5/5) 3. The noodle in the beef noodle soup was wayyy soggy. The broth had mala spice which was not authentic and odd. (1.5/5) 4. The fried pork buns were decent. Nicely fried but mild in taste. I expected to be juicy inside and was disappointed. (3/5)

Great little spot on midpen - outside of SM, it's hard to find a good authentic homestyle spot. Our order: scallion pancakes (very good - we LOVED it!) crab / pork XLB - not a very strong crab taste, but very juicy and each had a little tin under it to catch any escaping tasty juice (mostly stayed intact though) scallion noodles (good and huge serving but could be a little more strong scallion taste, not the best I've had) dumplings - really good as well and they had chicken / corn dumplings which are very child friendly - I had chive and shrimp ones. Both were excellent. We stopped by at 5PM on a Saturday and it was mostly empty but filled up before we left with a few parties waiting. It's not the biggest space so big parties might have to wait. Service was great and they were very patient and kind with my preschooler date. My son told the waiter "THAT'S MY FAVORITE" every time another steaming plate came out - and he's a picky eater.

Everything is freshly made & it comes thru in the taste. Really enjoyed the tofu/avocado salad, which is something not offered at any other Asian restaurant. The XLB came in a convenient wrapper that makes it easy to slurp up the juices. You can also watch your meal being prepared on site as well.

Tasty, cheap, fresh Chinese food tucked away on the side of San Carlos downtown. Honestly, I wasn't sure what to expect when I showed up -- I've had a lot of mediocre Chinese food served at similar restaurants. A big issue is when they try to "Americanize" it to the tastes of the local customers. However, I can confidently say that the taste here is quite authentic and the beef noodle soup definitely fit the bill. You can definitely still taste the difference between the beef noodle soup and the beef noodle soup at say, Liang's Village in Cupertino -- Liang's definitely has a much more premium product with richer broth and noodles with more bite. But Liang's is also almost $10 more expensive for each bowl. For the price paid, and also accounting for the fact that you can literally see them making the food fresh behind the window, I would consider this a win. Would stop by again anytime I am in San Carlos (which is quite often!)

Cute and homey restaurant with the nicest people! The server Phoenix gave us great recommendations, and the owners were also very kind. Not to mention how flavorful the food was! They also gave us a complimentary cucumber salad and this sweet and refreshing cherry tomato thing which were both so delicious and something new to me. I cannot wait to come back :) My order: Green Thai Curry - Super coconutty and flavorful, a bit too spicy for me(I'm weak, my friend was the one to order this haha). Crab and Beef XLB - My goodness this was soo good it was sweet! The soup broth was amazing and the meat itself was so tasty. Presented so well and easy to remove off the foil. The freshest tasting XLB I've ever had, better than Din Tai Fung by a landslide. I could eat 20 of these if I had the chance haha. Black Pepper Beef Dumplings - I didn't know what to expect, it was recommended to us. I was blown away, it was seasoned very well! Again very juicy and flavorful, I wasn't expecting to like it this much. Came in 10 pieces so definitely share.

This is a cute restaurant in downtown San Carlos owned by a cute family. The dumplings were actually really good (not pictured). Everything else was ok. Noodles didn't have enough flavor or sauce though (we got jiajiangmian too). The angel wings were pretty good but not spicy at all haha. Service was super friendly and quick. If you come here, make sure to get the boiled dumplings!

Affordable eats with quality dumplings and a simple menu. Staff was friendly, and gave us complimentary cucumber salad. Beef noodle soup had good flavor, not too salty or oily. Pork XLB had a decent amount of soup and was flavorful. Black pepper beef dumplings were also good. Clean interior and plenty of street parking. Would come back if in the area.

I stopped by on a weekday late afternoon. The place was not busy. Crab XLB was my favorite item here. It had some soup in it. Beijing potstickers was flavorful. Pepper beef dumpling was really good as well. Food was ready in less than 10 minutes.

The actual entrees were really good ( sweet and sour pork, kung pao chicken) service was friendly and fast . BUT I have been searching Redwood City, San Carlos , Belmont and surrounding areas for a decent potsticker. Sadly to no avail. Oddly enough the best potstickers are at cache creek casino over an hour away at Chang Shou. This place is no different. Their potstickers were undercooked perogies. Not sure they know what a potsticker is around here. Most places mislabel by calling them gyosa, or dumplings, or even buns. A good potsticker is firm, well cooked and as close to burnt on the bottom as you can get without actually causing a char. They are not ....wet, soggy, doughy, or a straight up undercooked pork bun. I would come back for the entrees but it's just too expensive.

Curry Beef Stew I've never had Curry beef stew before, prefer chicken, curry, but for some odd reason, I decided to order this dish. It was underwhelming and I won't order it again. The Curry sauce itself was OK but the big long pieces of beef were somewhat gross, lots of fat. They added plenty of slices to onions and a few pieces of green pepper and Julienned carrots, but that's about it for being called a stew. So I learned my lesson by not sticking to my usual order, and won't order wonton soup or curry beef stew again.

From the first visit, it was clear this isn't an "Americanized Chinese restaurant," but a place that truly understands Chinese cooking, technique, and flavor. What impressed me most were the mushroom dishes. Being able to enjoy mushrooms with such depth and complexity in the U.S. is already rare. The aroma isn't built from heavy seasoning, but from the ingredients themselves, fully brought out. The flavors are clean, natural, and incredibly fragrant--the kind that lingers and keeps you wanting more. It immediately brought back memories of authentic Yunnan flavors. Even more impressive were some of the seemingly ordinary stir-fried dishes. At first glance, they look simple, almost unassuming. One bite in, though, and you instantly understand what real wok hei is. That smoky, high-heat flavor can only come from a skilled chef using proper equipment and precise timing. It's not greasy or overpowering--just deeply aromatic and perfectly balanced. Simple, yet elevated. Overall, this is a restaurant that doesn't rely on gimmicks, fancy plating, or social-media hype. Everything is driven by pure technique and respect for ingredients. Each dish has a clear identity and leaves a lasting impression--not something you just photograph and forget, but something you actually remember. In the Bay Area, where Chinese restaurants are everywhere but truly great ones are rare, Ping's Bistro is a place I'd gladly return to again and again. If you're looking for something different, want to experience real wok hei, or simply appreciate honest, well-executed Chinese cooking, this spot is absolutely worth a dedicated visit.
