came here for lunch with my family- the restaurant is bright and cozy with a patio outside. service was great as well, staff was friendly and our food came out fast. we had to order the pork xiaolong bao, which were great and we could see the chefs making them by hand in the back. if you like a thicker skin on your dumplings, you'll love these. the pan fried pork buns were delicious as well, although I would liked it to be soupier inside, same with the XLB. we also ordered the crispy fried tofu, spicy wonton soup, and dan dan noodles. the wonton soup and dan dan noodles were so flavorful with szechuan spice- definitely recommend those if you like that! overall, I'd say it's a solid place with authentic chinese dumplings. Walked in fairly late (35ish min before closing) on a weeknight - looked like they had a busy night since none of the tables were cleaned. We called around 5:40pm on the Sunday before Christmas to see if they have space for 4 adults + 4 kids, they said yes, and there was no need for them to hold a table as they had plenty of space. Our order: scallion pancakes (very good - we LOVED it!) crab / pork XLB - not a very strong crab taste, but very juicy and each had a little tin under it to catch any escaping tasty juice (mostly stayed intact though) scallion noodles (good and huge serving but could be a little more strong scallion taste, not the best I've had) dumplings - really good as well and they had chicken / corn dumplings which are very child friendly - I had chive and shrimp ones. Tasty, cheap, fresh Chinese food tucked away on the side of San Carlos downtown. Honestly, I wasn't sure what to expect when I showed up -- I've had a lot of mediocre Chinese food served at similar restaurants. A big issue is when they try to "Americanize" it to the tastes of the local customers. However, I can confidently say that the taste here is quite authentic and the beef noodle soup definitely fit the bill. You can definitely still taste the difference between the beef noodle soup and the beef noodle soup at say, Liang's Village in Cupertino -- Liang's definitely has a much more premium product with richer broth and noodles with more bite. But Liang's is also almost $10 more expensive for each bowl. For the price paid, and also accounting for the fact that you can literally see them making the food fresh behind the window, I would consider this a win. Tasty food that was able to accommodate a group of 16 people at night! My group and I made a phone reservation for 16 people and they were more than happy to make it happen. There isn't designated parking so you'll have to find parking along the street but I personally didn't have much trouble securing a spot The dishes here are best "family styled" meaning you should order dishes for the table rather than yourself. Personally, my favorite was the DanDan noodles but the pan fried dumplings were a close second! The sauce on the noodles were tasty and the portion size was extremely generous. My family decided to try Dumpling & Dough for lunch over the weekend. We were the first patrons inside around 11:45am. When we walked in, I noticed immediately how nice and clean the restaurant was. The host seated us promptly at a window table, which allowed for a lot of natural light. The settings on the table were quite modern as I noted that the plates were half circles, which was very unique. As for the food, we ordered the Szechuan avocado salad, Szechuan cold noodle, boiled black pepper beef dumplings, pan fried pork buns and the Beijing pot stickers. Before our food came out, the server brought us complimentary cucumber salad to start, which was a very nice touch. It was crunchy and cool; a nice way to start the meal on a warm day. The cold noodles came out first, and the serving was huge! It was hard to mix well since the plate was overflowing with cucumbers and chicken. The sauce was savory and mild in spice, that even my daughter who can't tolerate spicy foods was able to enjoy it. The black pepper beef dumplings said it included 10 pieces, but we received 11. No complaints there! The wrapper was not too thick and you can tell that they were handmade. The meat was soft and seasoned well and the dumplings even had soup inside. The potstickers were a bit of a let down. I would probably skip these next time, as they weren't crispy enough for my liking. The filling was tasty though. I really enjoyed the avocado salad, which came with tofu, minced jalapeno peppers and cilantro. It was a fusion dish that was refreshing and perfectly seasoned. Highly recommend if you're an avocado fan! The pan fried dumplings were the last to arrive. We nearly forgot we even ordered them since it took so long to come out, but they were definitely worth the wait! It was just the two of us for Xmas Day this year and it turns out that D&D was open, so we decided to give them a try. Started with the shrimp and cilantro egg rolls which were thin and nicely crispy. Loved them. Next we ordered the shrimp and chive dumplings which were hot and full of juicy filling. After that were the pork xlb (we tried for pork and crab but they were out unfortunately), ... these were also really delicious and came in a choice of four or six. Finally we had the four piece fried pork dumplings which are favorites of mine... hot, crispy and tasty with plenty of delicious filling. We enjoyed everything and service was friendly and fast. There were some Chinese people eating here so that's how you know it's legit. We saw staff prepping and cooking in the back kitchen. We ordered a bunch of items to share. Really liked this spot! It's all of the classic dishes you'd find at a dumpling spot in the Bay, with multiple kinds of dumplings, noodles, buns, and more. Felt like a Din Tai Fung alternative, albeit a bit more mom and pop shop-like. Our favorite thing here was strangely enough the truffle brussels sprouts! They were fried to have crispy edges and felt like popcorn, but the saltiness of them was perfect and fairly addictive. The pork and crab XLBs were also great and felt like your standard good soup dumpling. I also really liked the wood ear mushroom salad because it came with white wood ears (which you don't usually find) and made things more texturally interesting. They also threw in a dessert on the house, so we went with the dark chocolate XLBs. They were VERY rich and decadent, and I kind of wish there was something on the side to help offset that richness. Found myself seeking shelter from the rain with my wife at this new cozy spot in San Carlos, and boy, did we stumble into dumpling nirvana! Perfect way to clear those sinuses and warm the soul. Let's talk XLB (soup dumplings) - these little pouches of joy are like flavor grenades that explode in your mouth! The regular steamed dumplings? Not to be outdone by their soupy cousins, they're bringing their A-game too. But the Beijing noodles... oh my! These thick, gooey noodles with their subtle garlic flavor had me contemplating whether it would be socially acceptable to face-plant into the bowl. (I resisted, barely.) They've got these fancy little heating plates for the tea that make you feel like you're participating in some sort of ancient ritual. Every table had one, and I caught at least three people trying to figure out how to sneak them into their bags (kidding, mostly). However, I do appreciate the effort & accountability so I'm updating from 1 to 3 stars. :) I really wish I could say I had the same experience as my fellow Yelpers. I started my day at 6am, working some overtime & attending an art gallery afterwards. I think I ended up here around 3:30pm yesterday, 12/13/25. My girlfriend & I chose Dumpling & Dough because we love dim sum & needed something quick to eat since neither of us had eaten all day. I also don't eat meat & she does, so somewhere that accommodates both of us is a must. The place was completely empty which was great because, again, neither of us had ate all day. We were seated right away by a male server & another party of two came in & sat right next to us. As we were still deciding, the server took the other party's order. When we're ready, the server comes to take our order. He takes my girlfriend's order first, she ordere the chicken noodle soup. He checks if it's okay if it's bland. She says that's fine. I tell him I'm going to have the green vegetable curry. Then I tell him we're going to share the green onion pancake and as I'm telling him this, he cuts me off to tell me "Ladies, you're already ordering a lot of food." Like, excuse me? We both just pause. I say "We'll take whatever we don't finish to go." And then I also order the dark chocolate XLB for us to share & that completes our order. Before we even get our food, he has completely ruined our experience. My girlfriend texts me to tell me that she heard him say something similar to the other table, I'm shocked they have this guy out here working with people. Maybe 20 minutes later, the male server leaves & a woman takes over. We are relieved. The other party also gets their food. They have only ordered two entrees and one dim sum dish. Although, no matter what anyone orders, comments should not be made about their order. It takes us a full 50 minutes to get our food. They are not bringing things out as they finish them. I don't know if the male server didn't put in our order or what, but it was ridiculous. The food unfortunately didn't hit the mark to make up for the wait time, and nothing could have made up for the earlier remark by the male server. The party next to us also put in an order for two additional dessert dishes with the female server. No sly or weird comments by her. Perfectly normal. Unfortunately, the male server comes back while we are finishing up what we are going to be eating there. We decide we will not be interacting with him at all. We ask the female server for a few to-go containers and the bill. He's cleaning up the table next to us & making comments under his breath. Super uncomfortable. Then as he's dropping dirty dishes walking away he's cursing. I get we are the only people in the restaurant but we are still customers in the restaurant, have some class. Overall, had the food been out in 20-30 minutes and just been alright & we had the female server? Would've been a 4 star for sure. But the male server made it a nightmare experience.
