We wanted to explore more non-taqueria Mexican food options, and it was great finding this hidden gem in Redwood City! Many of the employees primarily speak Spanish, but even though I speak Spanish muy poquito, we had no problems getting seated and ordering while speaking English. The menu is primarily accessed by QR code, but they will give a physical copy of the menu if you ask. There was plenty of indoor and outdoor seating available, and we were seated quickly. Chips are not complimentary, so we ordered Chips and Guacamole ($11) to start, and my goodness, it's been a while since I've had really amazing guacamole. It's fresh, it's chunky, it's a nice balance of other toppings - I was in love with it. We ended up ordering more chips (this time Chips & Salsa ($4)), because we had plenty of guacamole left over. The salsa was a nice roasted salsa, rich in flavor but not too spicy. The chips tasted homemade as well, as they weren't overly salted but had a nice crunch to them. They had plenty of homemade Aqua Frescas available, so I got the Strawberry Horchata one. I didn't realize they default to large ($7) from the start, as they also have small & medium. A little surprised by that, but the horchata was so good that I ended up being happy they gave me a large. We shared the Molcajete D. Carne ($40), which came with sides of rice, beans, and tortillas. The molcajete was huge - definitely plenty to share with at least 2 people! The meats were plenty flavorful and not overcooked, so they weren't chewy. El Camaron is one of my favorite places for Mexican food. The vibes are always good with loud music and laughter; great place to celebrate and have a great time. The food is so good. My favorite dish to get here is the Aguachile's. Tip: ask for mayo and tostadas for your aguachile. The service is great and the waitress's are fun. This place is a true hidden gem in RWC. Once you come into the restaurant, you are led to this backyard-like canopy filled with Mexican art decor, trinkets hanging, etc. Tables are filled with different variety of hot sauces from Mexico which is authentic. Me and my coworkers loved the food and our time here. I ordered a burrito filled with shrimp diablo sauce (it was literally like lobster bisque). This was delicious and paired great with their spicy habanero sauce. My co worker ordered a fish ceviche tostada and aguachile. Both dishes were piled with fresh seafood. There was so much and we really loved it. Even their chips and guac was also great! Real tortilla chips, guac and fresh salsa to pair with it. I've never dined in, so can't speak to the ambiance too much, other than that it seems like there's an outdoor patio, the inside is small-ish, but everything is very clean and neat, and there's a small separate (but visible) bar side. I also have been o pick up food and have seen live music playing. The service is always prompt and friendly. I usually have a medium to large order and they always give me a full bag of tostadas. The food: Sushile is basically a "sushi" stuffed, deep fried pepper which you're rolling the dice on how spicy it can be - but the taste of the filling and the fry is very good! The seafood torre is SO GOOD! But SOOO SPICY! Please make sure to keep that in mind and ask them to make it less spicy (it can literally alter how much you enjoy it bc of how spicy it is) The Gobernador tacos are also super yummy! They are a generous size and come 3 to an order. They have both asada and shrimp options, just keep in mind they won't mix/match. The sauce they include is also fire! We , a family of four and a toddler, were in need of delicious Mexican style seafood so we chose this place. Parking as always is not easy but if you are lucky enough you will find a spot near the front door. We ordered tacos gobernador de camarón , yum! A quesadilla as the shell stuffed with creamy fajita like style shrimp. Those are a must try, it's three per order. We also ordered chicharrón de pescado which was wonderfully crispy and well seasoned, oh yeah! The coconut horchata was a party favorite and you can't go wrong with a suero to pair with all the nice choices. We also ordered papadas which is mashed potatoes loaded with toppings, cheese and breaded sliced chicken. Different, good but not my favorite of our choices. They have Sinaloa's style sushi as well, chorizo, etc. great choices. The only down side is that there was one server for both the patio and inside so we had to wait a very long time. There were heaters but no gas tanks except for one so we were cold until another table generously offered the heater for our son. Here's what we ordered: MANGOENADA ~ The first time my daughter ordered this, it was great! She ordered it again and it was a let down when you find hard, sour unripe chunks of mango in your drink. It wasn't easy going down when you're constantly chewing hard pieces. 3/5 SHRIMP CEVICHE ~ Quite tart with the lime juice, but they give a generous amount. 4.5/5 CHICKEN FLAUTAS ~ 4 Crispy flautas and the chicken was moist and tender. 4/5 ORD. RORO TACOS (3) ~ Shrimp tacos, which were good but small/average sized. 3.5/5 SUPER TACO ~ This was a beef taco, but it was really small. It should not be listed as SUPER when it's tiny! Now, that was $7. Honestly, it should just say 1 beef taco. My daughter ordered it because she knew it was small. Tasted ok, but nothing special. 3.5/5 MANGO PINEAPPLE DRINKS ~ This was underwhelming. No real mango and some bits of pineapple. It's sugar water with flavoring. 3/5 First time trying this place, it was great! But the last few times, it's been average. Then to find discrepancies with their menu and the bill, it just doesn't seem like they're on top of things. And the menu prices should be honored even if it's incorrect. I wasn't going to stand there and argue about this. Most businesses would give you back the difference. Maybe the boss wasn't there, but if a customer orders something with a set price on the menu, the bill should show the same price. Unfortunately, this left a bad taste in our mouths. We needed a dog friendly restaurant and happy we found El Camaron on Yelp. Their outdoor patio is large and welcoming. Karla, our server, was the best. She was helpful with suggesting items to order and always came to check on us. We ordered the chicharron de puerco and chicharron de pescado for appetizers and shared a carne asada plate. All was delicious. A mariachi band was a pleasant surprise. If you want to order alcohol, you need to order it from the bar next door. La Costa only takes cash but they have an ATM. We were in the area during a work night so we found this gem, and let me tell you definitely worth a come back to sample more of their offerings. Let me break down all we sampled and how it all faired Pulpichelados - baby octopus grilled to perfection and seasoned well, lime added if you like that add more taste to this already seasoned dish, if you like baby octopus definitely must try Salmon Tacos - grilled not fried, seasoned perfectly, very filling and the fish did not fall apart on any bite like salmon does when it is overdone, order this if you like salmon Molcajete Mar y Tierra - literally a bucket of seafood and meat all grilled, at the bottom base you have green onions, then you have carne asada that sits on the bottom sucking up all that juice from all the other items, it was super tender, perfectly made, grilled chicken also sitting in the sauce, not dry, juicy, tender, chicharon they don't skim these are pretty hefty slices this was the only item that was deep fried it also sat at the bottom sucking up all the juices, dip in the sauce provided or back into the bottom of the bowl, the shrimp was seasoned well, not rubbery, shell still on but definitely hearty, also trying to call out from the bowl is semi large octopus boiled then grilled I believe but it was seasoned well, if you want a sample a bit of everything this is the dish you want. Everything sooo good, but my favorite are the sinaloa rolls. My favorite is the Aleman roll ask for it fried. The meat was spectacular and delicious it was seasoned to perfection. All the portions are big and you can definitely share plates with other people so you can try a variety of their huge menu. When we come we always opt to side in the back patio as its more roomier and more calm and its a nice place to hang out at. Never showed me the screen re: tip which I might have added. Instead, when I looked at my charge on my cc at home, noticed she gave herself a tip. That is not ok. El Camaron in RWC serves delicious Mexican food. The chips and guacamole were fresh and flavorful. The shrimp ceviche and jalapeno sushi were also very good, and the ceviche came with a full bag of tostadas which was a nice touch. We tried the super taco with carne asada and it was big, tasty, and loaded with guacamole. The kids Alfredo pasta was creamy and well made. There was live music on the patio with a guitarist and singers which gave the place a great atmosphere. The decor was warm and inviting. If you enjoy spicy food, their hot sauce is very strong and caught me by surprise. The service was fantastic and we really enjoyed our meal and we always look forward to coming back. read more

I looked for a parking lot but found none so we parked on the street (2 hour parking). Parking is limited to what's on the street. My group and I were offered to sit inside or in their outside area. We went for the outside are as it looked more spacious and the music was still not as loud out there. The guy told us the menu barcode was right there and that someone would be with us shortly. We scanned it and found the food and drinks menu. I've had their tostadas de ceviche at the SJ location and they are very good so I went with the Tostada de Mango and Aguachiles Rojos. My kiddos had items of the kids menu. Our food came out about 10-15 minutes later. Both my dishes were good. Plenty of spice and was very fresh. In the middle of our meal a band came out to sing happy birthday to the table next to us. It was very loud but I've seen it go louder at the SJ location. This is a part of the ambience hear and I know what I'm getting into when I come here. Our drinks weren't refilled at all and our table was only checked on once. At the end of our meal we had to go find a server to get to go boxes for our leftovers and to request the check. I was given the wrong box for the ceviche so that spilled on the way home. You pay at the front. CASH ONLY. But there is no itemized bill. Our total before tax was $98 and the end bill was $115. Not sure how that became the total even with tax. We also tipped on top of that. I'll be requesting an itemized bill next time. The music is blaring on the speakers and again it comes with the ambiance but I always feel like it's TOO loud. If I have to yell at my group it's TOO loud! It's a party in there for sure. Service was good. Friendly staff ready to serve you. Staff can improve in checking on tables around the visit to ensure cups are filled. I also wished they had the adult drinks menu more accessible. They have a bar inside but if your outside it doesn't make sense to not have menus visible. Parking is limited to the street.
