We had a truly positive and comfortable mattress shopping experience at Yawnder. It's a great showroom full of high quality mattresses that you typically only see online, so being able to try out more natural, eco-friendly options was so helpful. We found our perfect mattress with the help of Trystan and Katherine, who were both SO nice, genuine, patient, and very knowledgeable about their inventory. Trystan especially spent a lot of time with us answering all of our questions honestly and in detail, but also gave us time and space to shop around, and never made us feel pressured to buy. We purchased 2 Technogel pillows, a Diamond Generations King size mattress (made here in California!), a bed foundation, and mattress cover for a very reasonable price. We didn't feel the need to shop around for any of it because a quick check online showed that Yawnder's pricing was very fair, and we also wanted to buy everything from this awesome small business. We opted to have our items sent to the showroom, then delivered by Oscar, who was excellent with communication and coordinating a delivery time, and even took our old box springs away all for free! I generally despise having to mattress shop. This last go around, I spent way too much time going down rabbit holes with reviews and reddit, etc. I wish I had just started at Yawnder in Encinitas. They had 3 of the 4 mattresses I was interested in. After test driving those (and a few others in the store), we settled on some from Nest (two twin XLs for our split cal king and a queen for a guest bedroom). The in-store experience was terrific. I had a fantastic customer experience at Yawnder in Encinitas. They carry a great selection of the online brands I was most interested in like Helix, Nest, Nolah, and several others I've been wanting to check out. It's tough to find a place where you can actually lay on these brands (the next closest I found was in Orange County!). You've got to see how it feels before committing to an important purchase like your mattress--where you'll theoretically spend 1/3 of your life for the next several years. You just can't do that online. Yes, do some research and check reviews. But ultimately, you've got to test some out and find the one that works for YOU. I want to give an extra shout-out to Cimarron, who was sooooo patient with me trying out all of the mattresses, sharing so much knowledge and insight with me along the way. Mostly because of my online research, I ended up purchasing a certain hybrid mattress I won't name here. The new mattress arrived on my porch; and Yawnder took away my old mattress. It was a great mattress, but I tried it out for maybe 40 days or so and decided it just wasn't the perfect fit for me. Their return/exchange process was easy and no-headaches. Second time around, I chose the Nest Owl Natural Latex organic mattress. I was able to take advantage of some fantastic sale pricing they had that even beat what the manufacturer was offering. The Nest mattress arrived on my porch, and Yawnder came by and took away the first one. I've had my Nest mattress for a couple of months now and I'm loving it. In conclusion, in my opinion, there is NOTHING BUT ADVANTAGE FOR YOU by going to Yawnder vs. ordering online. You get to actually see, touch, and try the mattress yourself before you buy. You also get expert guidance and service, and someone local you can speak with face to face if you have any issues. If you're looking for a better way to shop for a mattress, Yawnder is the perfect solution. After visiting the usual mattress stores we only saw the major legacy brands like Simmons, Sealy, Tempurpedic, and a couple of the online brands, used mostly to upsell us to the other more expensive brands. The other option is to buy online any of the newer brands and hope for the best. But mattresses vary so widely, it's a real hassle to find the best one by ordering without trying and returning successive times, especially after you've gotten rid of your old mattress. Yawnder solves this conundrum brilliantly. They have most of the newer brands available online to try and compare in one place. My wife and I visited Yawnder and were able to try the ones we were interested in from reading Consumers Report, Wirecutter, Wired, the ads, and the many paid review sites that, of course, disagreed with each other. We discovered the mattresses felt very different in person from their descriptions. One company's firm was softer than another company's medium. Some sagged at the edge, while others were too bouncy. We really needed to try them in person. Luckily, this one visit to Yawnder allowed us to try and compare all the models of a dozen or more brands. We were helped by Billie, who was very knowledgeable and applied no pressure at all. She just explained each one objectively and never pushed one brand over another. Buying our mattress came down to trying them at our pace for over an hour. Pricing was as good or better than online. (see below). Our mattress was delivered about 10 days after ordering by very two very capable individuals. They set everything up, including the remotes, adjusted the height to our liking and removed all of the cartons and the old mattress at no charge and took our old frame and box spring for a small charge. A few days later I noticed the mattress we bought on Amazon advertised by the manufacturer (Helix) for about $270 less than Yawnder's selling price. Even though Yawnder had also provided their own store discount of $290, making our net cost $20 less than Amazon, Yawnder said their price guarantee applies to the advertised price of the mattress without their extra discount, and insisted on giving us a refund of $270! This was truly an amazing experience in every way. My wife and I feel we lucked out by finding an easy way to try out all the mattresses before buying, experiencing an educational, no-pressure sales process, getting timely white glove delivery, and paying less than anyplace else. Came in on a Saturday and was greeted by Billie. We were looking for a mattress that didn't retain body heat, and was medium firm. She knew exactly what we wanted. She had us try the Avocado Green mattress. Billie left us to test it out and decide. No pressure, no selling speech. She just wanted us to take our time, which was nice. We loved the Avocado Green right away. But we did want to try comparable mattresses. So Billie showed us 2 other mattresses. We tried them, but knew for sure we wanted to Avocado Green. Billie ordered us the mattress, platform and pillows. She even gave us a discount (Labor Day sale). We also purchased their White Glove service which includes the platform, mattress set up and old mattress haul away. Diamond Hands (Yawnder's 3rd party delivery at the time) texted us a few weeks after we ordered. They set up a time convenient for us. Two guys step up the platform and mattress in our bedroom. Yawnder's White Glove service charge did not include the Box Spring haul away. So Diamond Hand charged us $135 extra. That was not expected (I didn't ask the details of white glove service at time of purchase). But I would have paid for the box spring haul away anyways. Only thing I wish the delivery guys could have done was wear clean gloves during set up. Their everyday-gloves were a little dirty and got our new mattress dirty. :( We were missing 1 pillow because Avocado sent the second pillow later that afternoon to Yawnder. I emailed Yawnder, and they shipped it to us the next day. Great service! Overall we have a great shopping experience here. No pressure. No up-selling. Came here based on their reviews and also because they are the only retailer in San Diego that carries Dreamcloud brand mattresses. I had done some online research and decided to come in to try out the different models. Ben explained to me all the features of the Dreamcloud mattresses and provided me with a lot of information. We visited Yawnder in Encinitas after trying an online mattress purchase. The salespeople were very helpful, with no pressure, and gave us plenty of time to try out the mattresses on our own without them hovering around. They seem to have just about every online mattress in their showroom, including the one that turned out not to be right for us. Had we gone here first and sat on it, we would have avoided a lot of frustration. I've been on a search for a new mattress. I hit up the typical Mattress Firm /run of the mill stores. I just wasn't sold on dropping so much on a mattress I didn't absolutely love. I started to look online and came across this store Yawnder. I was curious to try out all of the beds you read about online but are not able to try out. I cruised on over to this spot and I met Ben who I believe is the owner. He was knowledgeable, kind and honest. I felt absolutely no pressure AT ALL to purchase a mattress during my visit. I spent close to an hour and half just narrowing down the mattresses I liked there. Ben answered all of my questions from coil count to manufacturer, to which beds find their way back as returns. He listened to my feedback and was able to show me mattresses that were to my liking. Four mattresses were in the running, but when I finally left it was between 2. I would recommend anyone looking for a new mattress to come check out how far mattress technology has come and venture off the top selling mattress brands we thought only existed. Highly recommend! I had a really good experience here. I had gone to Mattress Firm and didn't find anything I loved. Some online quizzes had suggested some online only brands, but I was hesitant to buy them without being able to try them first. It was so nice to be able to come here and try the online only brands in person. They also had tons of pillow options to try. Marcela helped me with everything, and she was fantastic. She helped me figure out the firmness level I liked, and once we narrowed it down to my top couple of choices, she had me go in a massage chair as a sort of reset before I tried them each again for a little bit longer before deciding. She answered all my questions and gave me as much time as I needed. I never felt pressured, just supported. I was hunting for a new mattress, mattress protector, and pillows, and found good options. Marcela helped me place orders for everything. One small hiccup with one of the websites rejecting my phone number for an order (when the other websites had taken my orders just fine with my phone number). So I paid the store, they ordered it with their account, but I forgot to ask about shipping/tracking info. I called and Krista (Christa?) was able to give me a quick answer: because it was their store account, the shipping/tracking info was coming to them, which makes sense... I should've thought of that, haha. It should be here in a few days. Super pleased. I've been in the same crappy under $200 mattress for almost 10 years, so I'm excited to upgrade. This place is awesome because you can test out pretty much every mattress brand you can think of and even those you didn't know existed. When traveling in Asia, my travel mates complained about how hard the mattresses were, but I couldn't get over how good I felt after sleeping on these VERY firm mattresses. So, I wanted to recreate this sleeping experience at home. I bought two different off-brand mattresses online that developed sagging within 4 months and they were never firm enough. So, I learned you get what you pay for. Based on my further extensive research, I planned to buy a Brooklyn Bedding Plank, because it's advertised as the firmest mattress on the market. When I googled to see if there was any place that sells this mattress locally, Yawnder popped up and I'm so grateful to have found them. Had I bought the Plank mattress online without testing it out, I would have been very unhappy (yet again). Ben was kind, super knowledgeable, and honest guiding me through all my options and I was feeling totally dejected because it seems that we can't get the same sort of firm Asian mattresses here in the US. As luck would have it, Ben was reviewing a strange-looking ANSSiL Korean air mattress with "string technology" that comes with a module that allows you to dial in the level of firmness. The mattress wasn't even on the market yet here in the US, but when Ben let me try it out and dial in the firmness levels, I knew that this was exactly what I was looking for and he helped me to purchase it. When I looked at reviews for this Anssil mattress in the US there were lots of complaints about it because the 1-10 firmness levels essentially go from VERY firm to like-a-rock, but after having this mattress for 5 months, I absolutely love it and would still be searching for a mattress, had I not wandered into Yawnder. Think twice about ordering anything from here!! Their return policy is horrible and very misleading. The assumption is that customers do get to return after 30 day trial period; however, at the very bottom of their policy they list a long list of exceptions / non-returnable items, which unfortunately read too late. I purchased a Brooklyn Bedding 3" latex queen mattress topper - medium firm, slept on it 1 night and was in excruciating pain and very sore the next day. I gave it another try, but could not withstand the back pain after 1 hour. It was torture! My back is all messed up. I messaged them right away and they would not work with me as a customer or even cared to work with me. I went in person to their location in San Diego on the 2nd day to try to return mattress topper as it was still new, had the box and all packaging with me, and still nothing! All the manager could say was, "I'm sorry this is our policy." Horrible!! They were not willing to return or even give partial credit. Very disappointed. Paid $475 and can't use it. Ripped off! I HIGHLY recommend going to a more reputable place with a better return policy and a company who really cares about their customers versus their profit. LOOK ELSEWHERE. read more
