I get my hair done here every few months. This salon is wonderful, & the employees are amazing! They'll get you anything you need or request. Anything from a food to a Starbucks run! Yehia in Oak Park, IL... NO!!! Omar consistently and BLATANTLY stands up his clients. He will have you waiting more than an hour for him to arrive at the salon - His counterparts have had to call to remind him to come in for a client - as if he completely forgot about the appointment! Or he will overbook, and have you waiting an hour for him to finish another client - for an appointment that *he* set. He has zero regard for any one else's time - and has a nonchalant attitude about making you waste your time. I switched to his cousin Mohamed because of this. Mohamed rescheduled a Saturday appointment twice, then finally cancelled it at the *last* moment. My appointment was for 11:00 a.m., and he cancelled it at 10:15 a.m., saying that he is too busy!! Well isn't that the purpose of having your client make an appointment, to schedule your time properly?! He told me to come back on Monday... Well most people work Monday thru Friday (myself included), hence, scheduling the appointment for Saturday! They seem to miss the obvious that some people must make great arrangements to obtain an appointment, and they do not care. I do not understand these people. It is as if they are lacking the most basic aptitude for professionalism, and have a complete disregard for their clients - very disrespectful. Thankfully, I made a back up plan for my hair (due to Omar's reputation); I am grateful that I do not have to rely on them for my hair needs, and can happily take my $110 + Tip elsewhere. read more

I really don't want to check off any stars after the way I was treated by a particular stylist. I have been stood up by him not once, not twice, but THREE times. I love to give people the benefit of the doubt, but he made a fool out of me. I tip well, make my appointments WAY in advance just to be treated like this?? I don't think so. This salon will NEVER see my face again. I even called the manager/owner Omar to let me know what happened and I NEVER received a call back to rectify the situation. I recently visited Yehia's looking for something different that how I usually wear my hair. I usually wash and go or wear naturally. Bored with that, I asked Omar to surprise me. I told him I was open to color and or a cut. After he asked a series of questions to get an idea of what I was looking for, I told him that I trust that he would figure something out that would fit me, yet different from what I've been doing and able to wash and go naturally of need be. So he cut. And colored. And the results is amazing. The colors are really a good look for the fall and my complexion. The cut as well, works well for me and I am still able to maintain a wash and go when it isn't blow dried. Hands down to Omar... Again and again. read more

Took my 10yr old daughter to Yehia this afternoon at 2pm. We were walking back to the car with a new do at 2:56pm. My daughter has natural hair so it cost more ($55). I so far have been to Yehia's at this location four times. Mohamed has done by hair all four of those times. Each time that I have come I have done a simple wash and blow dry. The first time I came my hair was brittle and breaking mostly from the extensions I wear and from not taking care of my own. So when I went for the initial appt Mr. Yehia took off quite a few inches, but he said that I had to get my hair healthy again. After that experience I have been going back almost every two weeks, my hair is looks healthier, thicker and slowly it is getting longer. Besides for the service that I receive for my hair, the reason that I keep going back is because of the time that I am in there. I always have 9 o'clock appointments and I am in and out by 10:15-10:30. Ever since I was young I was always taken to Black salons but now that I am older and have a life and things to do, I cannot spend SIX HOURS!!! In the beauty shop for a touch-up/wash and dry, that is just crazy!!! So I really appreciate that Yehia's does not waste my time. I love how my hair feels, and how shiny, and voluminous it is each time that I go. The deep conditioners and massages that Mo gives are more then what I would have expected from a salon. Most salons give you the typical scalp massage; Mo gives you the scalp, temples, and neck massages that just make me feel so good afterwards. Now that I think about it, I wonder is that why my price yesterday was more, LOL just kidding. Mohamed really hooks it up; I promise you won't be disappointed. The other stylists in there seem really good too. The only one that I question probably touching my hair would be Kevin, he seems to always be running late and rushed. Omar does a pretty good job from what I can tell. Since Mo gave me the ok to do a sew-in, I think that I will call and schedule another appt and have the sew-in done there, and then have him style it for me. In a word...TERRIBLE! I aim to be fair in all my reviews so trust me ladies, go elsewhere or do your own hair, it will come out better. Came here in a pinch, had a work meeting. The woman who did my hair was very nice but, I'm wondering why she is working at this salon because she DOES NOT KNOW the proper technique for a blow out. My hair is long, and comes out very straight normally because I have a fine grade of hair. I left here looking like who did it and wtf!??? Smh, will not be back. Had to pull my hair back in a ponytail, and get my normal stylist to fix it the next day for the weekend. Total waste of money.... read more

I gave no stars for this salon. It is always crowded so plan on taking a lunch. If ur appointment is with Yehia please pay attention while he is doing ur hair and give him instruction on what u want and NOT what he wants......he is a HAIR CHOPPER! Here is the deal.....u will have an appt with Yehia. Yehia will consult you about ur hair then he will give u a magazine and inform u that he is going to CLIP the ends and when u look up from the magazine while he is "clipping" ur hair Yehia has given u the HAIRCUT that u did not ask for.... Then he will refer you to one of his other hair stylists because he does not have time to finish styling ur hair. The real reason behind that is that Yehia knows that those kind of actions r inappropriate and so he sends u to another stylist! Use this as an FYI and choose ur stylist with caution.....dishonesty is NEVER the key in anything. No stars for this.....the option would not allow me to post without selecting at least 1 star. read more

I've been to this salon a few times for a quick trim and style and honestly never had an issue. I always go to the same stylist and I always am in and out within two hours, with a nice hairstyle for a fair price.Yes, my hair is past my shoulders and yes I am a natural; trust me - a quick way to piss me off is to try and over cut or to not be on time to do my hair as scheduled. My suggestions for this and any salon - make your appointment in advance and either really early or late. just a thought.... read more

Really Bad Service. The people do not hold themselves accountable for their work. My sister in law went in to get her dreads dyed royal blue. She brought in her own dye. It was suppose to take an hour. Not only did it take 4 hours, her hair came out green, then they redid it with their own dye and charged her more. When they redid it,it came out a dirty looking blue and all the blond spots were not even covered. Her dreads became extra dry. They asked her to stay even longer, to dye it for a 3rd time, but she had to leave after 4 hours and it still was not right. She went to a birthday party looking jacked up. They asked her to come back so they could redo it again. We called and asked how will you compensated for her time, and continuing to add chemical to her hair, drying it out even more. They said they were gonna do it free, that was the compensation. We said doing something over that you messed up is not a free service. We asked for the owner and was told that the owner left the country and could not be reached.. We asked if the shop burned down you cant call the owner and was told that the owner doesn't use his phone when he is out of the country. We were told by the manager Mohammed that he would ask the girl who messed up her hair if she would twist it down for a discount or something and when my sister went to the shop, she asked him what was going to happen. He replied he had asked her but she did not let him know yes or no. So he ended up dying my sisters hair, and it came out very dark blue black, didn't condition it to prevent more dryness, and at the end the lady Ms. Y who did not take accountability for her work or offer a discounted or free service asked. "Will you be back on Thursday to get your hair twisted?" Which was gonna be the next service my Sister was gonna get. My sister said no I don't think so. If she had said can you come back Thursday I will twist your hair down for free or half price to compensate for all the time we caused you and the inconvenience having you go to your party with jacked up hair, then all may have been better. Not good either way because the blue is not even blue. The twist down probably would not have been any better. She ended up paying $75 for a dye job that was suppose to be 55$, and it was $75 dollars because when they messed it up the first time when it turned green they made her pay an extra $20.00 to reprocess it. If you are looking for someone who will take accountability for their mess up. DO NOT GO TO THE SHOP IN OAK PARK ON MADISON STREET. They dont value your loss of time and dont feel responsible for your inconvenience. read more

I really wanted to like this place. When i found out that Yehia was coming to Oak Park I was very excited! My first experience with Yehia in the down town area was awesome! I made the difficult decision that most Black mothers make when it comes to their daughters, "To Perm or not to Perm?" I decided to allow my daughter to get her first relaxer by the experts, when we arrived the staff was at odds with each other arguing and cutting eyes at one another, then they all migrated to the owners nephew, Omar, to chat. Finally, a nice girl, Angie prepped my daughter for her relaxer she took her time and was very professional. So we came back, This time Angie was not there and an older gentlemen prepped my daughter, when Angie arrived and began to style my daughter I noticed large soars in my child's head, she had not been properly based. I calmly brought this to the attention of Yehia himself who yelled at me, exclaiming that this happens and it is not the fault of his staff, and suggested that I brushed her hair too close to the scalp causing the chemical to penetrate beneath the skin, He was so rude that I started to tear up in anger, I was so embarrassed. He said he would get something to make it better, he did, offered to cover the cost and apologized for his tone. SO I CAME BACK! this time I allowed Omar to do my hair as well, he was an hour late, when he arrived he had to eat, and take care of other business, He was RUDE, and ARROGANT, he seemed to care less that clients were waiting and spent more time looking at himself in the mirror than me. He is an awesome stylist, but customer service is not his strong suit. On a whole this Yehia is ghetto, and slow. If you complain you will get yelled at, Omar is the best stylist they have to offer and he is rude and must have his ego stroked constantly by the the staff just to get through the day. If you want to hear bickering, feel the weight of tension, and drama, be mistreated by your stylist and be subject to be yelled at THIS IS THE PLACE TO BE. In short this is an old fashioned GHETTO SALON, SLOW, RUDE, AND EXTREMELY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE, AND VERY EXPENSIVE! Take your money else where may I suggest GOSSIP, right down the street better quality, better service, better attitudes. read more
