I am very disappointed with the treatment I received from Dr. Yelena Simkha. I later learned from an endodontist that both of my root canals had not been fully treated. When I returned to Dr. Simkha's office with ongoing issues, I was told that the teeth needed to be extracted and replaced with implants. Conveniently, those implants would have been done in the same office. Fortunately, I decided to seek a second opinion. Another dentist referred me to an endodontist, who was able to properly complete the root canal treatment and save both of my natural teeth. Had the root canals been treated correctly from the beginning, I would not have had to pay significant out-of-pocket expenses. My insurance would have covered the original treatment, but it does not cover retreatment of the same teeth. I am grateful that I sought a second opinion before agreeing to extractions and implants. Based on my experience, I can only give Dr. Simkha 1 star. The quality of work was unacceptable, and it resulted in unnecessary stress, additional procedures, and extra costs. read more

Yelena is the best in this field!! She helped me fix my root canal issue so quickly and efficiently after a previous doctor completely messed it up leaving me in excruciating pain. I agree with most of the comments about crowns. Terrible job. I put my crowns paid over $1,5k and had a void under crown. I went to 3 different doctors to confirm that it was a poor work of the dentist, Simkha said it's my poor higiene without even seeing me. They refused to give me money back . Terrible Dentist and Rip off..overcharges on cleanings and then charged me over $ 1200 for a crown that came out less than 6 months later. When i tried to get satisfaction from their office they offered me no financial compensation.. Very very bad experiece~ read more

This is a dentist that I do not recommend to anyone. Yelena Simkha has done a front tooth bonding for me 7 times. Each time with it falling out, sometimes just a few days after it was done. Of course I'm writing now because it fell out again and refuse to go back. Once it fell out at home and I was shocked at how much she had chiseled at my original tooth. When I first went to see her it was only a small chip. She it not a friendly dentist in general. When I went back each time to get my tooth redone she would say it was my fault. Never a smile, never concern or personable. This is a dentist to stay away from. read more

I have had 3 appointments with Dr. Simkha, 2 for general dentistry (check-ups) and 1 for Invisalign. I have had a horrible experience with this dentist during all of my visits-- each one worst than the last. I have had to call her office multiple times over the past 4 weeks and still no Invisalign (she forgot to send it off to the company the first time, and the 2nd time she told me to just check back it wasn't ready). The receptionist is so rude and clearly hates her job and everyone who calls. Usually, that kind of stuff doesn't bother me-- i'm very easy going when it comes to that because I know it's not the dentists fault. But you will have to make all of your appointments through her and especially if you have to go back more than once a year, like me, for Invsalign check-ups. Dr. Simkha has 2 offices, so anytime she needs you to come to the Midtown office (ie for xrays, or anything that she can't do in her tiny UES office), you only have 1 choice-- Tuesday. That's the only day she's there. So if you miss her, you have to wait a whole week. For me, it's been 5 weeks and I was originally promised no longer than 2 weeks. I called today and the receptionist told me she only had the following appointments available on Tuesday: 11:30, 2:30 or 4pm. Some of us work full time so I told her that won't work, does she have any 6pm appointments and she said NO. Funny because I checked ZocDoc right after I hung up and she had a 6:00 and a 7:15 appointment available! Dr. Simkha is forgetful and has so many patients and is back and forth between the UES and Midtown offices that she doesn't seem to care and is very rude when you ask her how soon she can get something. I just can't believe I paid her a $400 deposit for Invsalign and now will have to go somewhere else because I can't stand the thought of going back to her 1 more time. I'd rather eat the cost and go elsewhere. Save yourself TIME and SERIOUS FRUSTRATION-- she is terrible. Just terrible. read more

I saw Dr Sinkha for a routine cleaning, but it was my first time with her. She took some standard Xays and immediately started telling me about how since their wasnt a crown on one of my front teeth, it could break..then she showed me pictures of a patient of hers it supposedly happened to.. (she hadnt even looked in my mouth yet)..after she looked in my mouth she says "Oh" and takes some of it back due to my bite. anyway, she tells me I needs a filing and a wisdom tooth pulled and sends me off after the cleaning (without a referral sheet or any information about a Dr which could see for the extraction..I had the ask the receptionists. I went back today for the filing and the assistant who seats in the room doesnt speak to me, as if Im not there..she checks her cell phone numerous times and then has to be reminded what to do by the dentist, in front of me. When Dr Simkha comes in she asks me about the extraction and I say I didnt do it due to lack of information when I left and she says she can pul it herself. Yada yada she fills the filing and I have to ask her which tooth she is pulling.. I got to the filing and the tooth pulled and am never coming here again.. (I checked the info she told me with my sister who is an orthodontist in LA, before going to this appointment by the way) There was just an extreme lack of bedside manner and I am excited to find another dentist that treats their patient's like people :) read more

I had a terrible experience here: First they ask for your insurance information ahead of time to verify it. Great, then why, a week after my appointment, did I get a full bill saying my insurance didn't accept the charges? I paid the full bill, which included x-Rays that I did not receive. When I asked why, they said they always charge for x-Rays for the first appointment, and it was my fault that I didn't get them, but I owed the money anyway. So they were charging me for a service not rendered... I paid, never went back, and would recommend avoiding this place. read more

Early morning on Valentine's Day 2014, with an evening out looming; I broke one of my back teeth. At an unrelated physical later that morning. I asked the staff at my doctor's office if they knew of a good dentist. Doctor Yelena Simkha was recommended. I called her office and explained my situation and they told me to be there at noon. Having seen some complaints on this site about Doctor Simkha, I don't get it. Doctor Simkha and her staff are a definite improvement over the two other dentists I've seen in Manhattan. And any delays or wait time [which I did not experience myself] are due to the fact that they look after their patients and also see patients with urgent issues. First, Doctor Simkha agreed to see a non-patient with an urgent problem. Second, Doctor Simkha was upfront and realistic about the costs. Third, Doctor Simkha was upfront and realistic about the fact that the crown was temporary with temporary adhesive and I may need to come back. Now the good part: Later, that FRIDAY NIGHT, the temporary crown shifted and came loose in a restaurant. In a panic, I called Doctor Simkha that FRIDAY NIGHT and she answered the phone. The next morning, ON A SATURDAY, Doctor Simkha came to her midtown office and took care of everything. So now I'm a patient of Dr. Simkha and very satisfied with her. I also find both Doctor Simkha and her staff to be warm, friendly, and reassuring. I would recommend Dr. Simkha for sure. read more

Very pleased with Dr. Yelena. She was suggested to me by a friend back 2 years ago. Before my first visit to her office I last saw dentist maybe 2-3 years ago, so you can imagine how many problems I've had. I do not recommend Dr. Simkha for root canals. Other dental issues such as gum cleanings were taken care of adequately. However, I had a root canal done a year ago and there is now incredible inflammation that is forcing me to have retreatment and remodeling of the crown. Do not come here for root canals!! Just go to an endodontist!!! read more

DONT GO TO THIS DENTIST. I had 3 root canals done all within a few months of each other, and they are all infected and one needs to be extracted. Dr. Simkha did not do a good job. I would definitely not trust her with your teeth. I am paying the price now for it with my time and even more money. read more

I've been seeing Dr Simkha for years. One of the reasons she's still my dentist is that she does things extremely well that other dentists will refer to specialists, like root canals, extractions, and implants. She's done at least four root canals for me, an extraction, and an implant and I've never had a problem with them. If something needs adjustment, she does so immediately and without complaint, and she follows up after procedures. Dr Simkha also patiently answers my questions. Not sure about why there are so many negative reviews on here. I just saw Dr. Simkha for the first time last month for a bi-yearly check up/cleaning. The office is beautiful and clean. Dr. Simkha was friendly and personable. The lady who did my cleaning took x-rays and was gentle and did a good job. The only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is because I had to wait about 30 mins after my appointment time to get called back, however once I was called back the cleaning and exam were pretty quick. It was also easy to get in for an appointment. I would recommend Dr. Simkha. read more

Dr. Simkha is the best dentist ever. She's committed to the best work and the best care. She is careful to explain beforehand everything she will do in the treatment and then continues to explain as the treatment ensues. She is very creative and came up with a solution to a problem I had that 8 other dentists couldn't solve. Her execution is impeccable. Her staff is attentive and cheerful. Avoid like the plague. She is incompetent. Four years ago i went to her for a root canal. At 5:00 PM, when she was in the middle of doing my root canal and that of another patient in the adjoining office, her assistant left and for a while she was running back and forth between the two rooms, spending a minute here, a minute there. Then her teenaged son showed up, and she had him assisting with me - basically a kid , not even wearing scrubs , just handing her instruments and holding the suction device. Did he wash his hands ? No gloves. I knew I was in trouble. She was having a lot of trouble with my procedure and said so. I should have just gotten up and left, but i foolishly decided to see it through. On the next visit she filed down my tooth to below the gum line to make way for the crown. When I got the crown - on the third or fourth visit - I felt intense pain and I told her the crown was not comfortable and also that there seemed to be a crack between the tooth and the crown which Ii felt with my tongue. She told me it fit perfectly and would not hear any complaints. The tooth continued to bother me off and on with pain or pressure. About a year and a half ago i finally decided to have it checked out, and I went to an endodontist. This dentist , who also called in another endodontist for a consult, said that the root canal had been very badly done and that there was a chronic infection there and that there was no other option but to remove the tooth and clean out the area.. I went to an oral surgeon who prescribed a course of anibitoics before the surgery. I had to cancel the surgery appointment at the last minute, but miraculously the infection, pain and pressure seemd to clear up and I did not follow through. BIG MISTAKE. Today, I had the tooth surgically removed. The oral surgeon had to do two additional emergency medcal procedures, because the chronic infection had spread to my jaw and sinuses. The surgeon said that it was a very bad infection and probably accounted for my various sinus problems and earaches and headaches on that side of my face over the past year. read more

I don't understand the bad reviews that Dr. Simkha got. She was very nice to me. I was an emergency case and she saw me right away. My regular dentist went on vacation. Before he left he gave me a root canal and prescribed painkiller. No antibiotic. It turns out I had an infection. Dr.. Simkha prescribed antibiotic. Who knows what would have happened if I hadn't seen her. I was in terrible pain. I am transferring my records to her. Her office staff was also very considerate. Dr. Simkha is outstanding! I have been seeing her since 2003, moved to the Midwest since then, and still keep coming back to her for my dental and oral care. You'd really have to look hard to find a dentist with her level of expertise and skill. She has done wonders with my once rather poor dentition and I now have a gorgeous smile and healthy teeth. She works a lot and it should be easy to schedule an appointment. Her office is brand new, well-kept, and clean. She and her staff are professional and friendly. I have been going to Dr. Simkah since I moved to New York 3 years ago. I never have a hard time getting a convenient appointment time and they always try to take me right away when I arrive. I've had both general cleanings as well as veneers and couldn't be happier with the way my experiences have been. I think Dr. Simkah is an excellent and thorough dentist always giving me the action plan before proceeding. Her office staff is also really efficient with handling insurance.
