Originally my husband had come to Dr.Karpman with six cavities & she had done five cavities with no problem but it was the 6th cavity that brought on excruciating dental non stop pain a swollen face & lingering suffering. My husband knew what happened during the sixth tooth cavity filling my husband jolted in pain as he knew Dr.Karpman while drilling had HIT HIS NERVE! This in turn led to dental calamity & the termination of my husband coming back to her as all trust was gone in her. He knew that she didn't do that on purpose but it could have been avoided! During the Memorial Day weekend the excruciating pain got worse & so did the swollen face! My husband called the office but got no response & we were looking for help on a holiday weekend not a good time to be in an emergency & no one from Dr.Karpman's office called my husband back so he lingered in agony!!! The following business day them we heard from Dr.Karpman's office but it was much too late!!! We had already scheduled an appointment with another dentist Dr.Reit who was also rejected by us as he wanted us to use his friend as he left my husband with a bleeding tooth & a swollen face This was another total calamity for my husband's accursed experience both with Dr.Karpman & Dr.Reit not an emergency dental dentist at all. My husband's nightmare wasn't over as I shuddered with fear. As it turned out my competent dentist Dr.Rubinoff at Divine Smiles Dental at 200 east 72nd street which my husband needed desperately saved him from suffering more agony! As it turned out both Dr.Karpman DDS & Dr.Reit who misrepresents himself as a dental emergency dentist which is not so both of them REFUSED to send my husband's x rays which is against the law. Neither of them cared for the welfare of the bleeding patient & showed their claws against the patient whose tooth was bleeding with a swollen face. Dr.Karpmen also didn't admit that she had caused the problem by hitting on the nerve thereby causing a barrage of pain bleeding & lingering suffering as my husband also couldn't sleep with the pain!!! Why didn't Dr.Karpman admit her lethal mistake as an honorable dentist or doctor should??? No not at all because her excuse was irrelevant totally! Also to top it off later when my husband wanted to floss a piece of another cavity done by Dr.Karpman fell!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This came from a filled cavity DR.Karpman worked on!!! What a bloody calamitous painful ignominious experience my husband had with Dr.Karpman & a killer tooth ache like no other plus a piece of another Dr.Karpman cavity falling off!! Autistic adults in my position, please come here! They actually listen! They've got sunglasses, they've got headphones, if you tell them to stop, they stop. The hygienist went out of her way to not use the loud brush on me, instead hand scaling and using an ultrasonic cleaner thing on my teeth. It was the most comfortable visit I ever had, even with the huuuge amount of work I needed done. At no point was I talked down to, yet their bedside manner was still soothing and friendly. Very hands on and I feel that she actually cares about my canines :) Whenever you leave, she makes sure to stock you up on all the goodies--toothpaste, toothbrush and of course, the floss. Never behind schedule, appointments are fairly easy to schedule and the location is great. I have had a few things done to my teeth and she has NEVER recommended procedures that are costly or unnecessary. For example: I had a chipped tooth, and I was given three options on handling the crack. This is RARE in the Manhattan dental scene- usually they try to bill you up as much as possible. She even had the receptionist check my insurance prior to taking the full set of xrays as she did not want them to bill me the additional $170 if not covered- very considerate! The only negative: the office and equipment is a bit dated. I would, however trade this in for an honest dentist in a heartbeat.

Yelp has the honest, negative reviews, in which most had a similar bad experience as me. are I first saw Dr. Roth two years ago based on positive reviews -- a decision I've regretted ever since. On my very first visit, he told me I needed four crowns -- not one or two, but four -- at $4,200 each. This was alarming given that my previous dentist, who I'd been seeing regularly for cleanings and exams, had never mentioned a single crown was needed. Against my better judgment, I agreed to one crown. Once in the chair, I was convinced to do two (because the teeth were next to each other) and was reminded of a "cash discount" -- $4,000 each -- if I paid in cash rather than credit card. This felt questionable, but I trusted them as professionals. I paid $8,000 in cash. During that visit, I was also told I needed to see his partner for additional work -- another $2,000. One of the crowns he placed caused ongoing pain whenever I chewed for over a year and a half. I returned to his office repeatedly for bite adjustments, which eventually caused issues on the other side of my mouth. Finally, he referred me to an Endodontist (another $600) who confirmed the problem wasn't the root -- it was likely the crown. Dr. Roth refused to acknowledge that possibility. Eventually, I saw another dentist who not only confirmed the crown was the likely culprit, but also stated the two other crowns Dr. Roth recommended were completely unnecessary. That dentist charged $3,800 for a NEW crown (on a credit card, no "cash discount" gimmick) and came highly recommended by trusted friends. However, I decided to wait -- but six months later, the ever-present problematic crown Dr. Roth placed fell out. My new dentist confirmed the reason it fell out, and likely the cause of the 1.5 years of pain when I chewed was that it had been improperly placed from the start. For context: Dr. Roth also quoted me $10,000 for 6 months of Invisalign. I later went to Dr. Goodman (a #1 Invisalign provider) for the exact treatment-- and paid $5,200. Once Dr. Roth learned I went elsewhere, his demeanor noticeably shifted. Bottom line: in my experience, Dr. Roth over-treats, overcharges, improperly places crowns, and pushes unnecessary work. His refusal to take accountability for faulty dental work left me in pain for over a year, thousands of dollars lighter, and still needing to fix his mistakes. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND HIM.

Dr. Chase said that my jaw was in severe pain because my teeth weren't straight, so convinced me to get Invisiline. The new dentist was actually professional and referred me to a TMJ specialist, who said that not only was Dr. Chase's reasoning bullsh*t, but the Invisiline was actually making my jaw pain worse. The actual diagnosis was arthritis in my jaw with 3D x-rays to prove it. Another way they scammed me was that Dr. Chase insisted I needed a cleaning every 3 months because my teeth were "so bad" and they would all "fall out", needing dentures. My new dentist assured me my teeth were actually fine, I brush well, and took the more reasonable and insurance covered approach of cleanings every 6 months. Truly BEWARE of this place.

I returned to this practice in August 2025 specifically because of my past positive experience with Dr. Martin, who had always been sensitive to my severe dental anxiety. For my August appointment, booked for a cleaning, exam, and X-rays, I confirmed in advance that I required nitrous for the entire visit along with Valium. Instead, I was met with repeated pressure from a hygienist I had never met before about "concerns" with my teeth and gums, even though Dr. Martin had already examined me and said everything "looked good." The hygienist left mid-appointment to discuss insurance coverage with the office manager, leaving me waiting. When I asked to proceed with the cleaning I originally booked, she turned the nitrous off, switched to oxygen and I ultimately left without the full service. Because I care deeply about my dental health, I later scheduled Periodontal Scaling and Root Planing for today, the deep cleaning their hygienist recommended. I was told it would take two hours to complete all four quadrants and cost roughly $350 per quadrant. I prepaid nearly $2,000 and confirmed, in writing, that I required nitrous for the entire appointment and did not want any upsells mid appointment. Despite receiving multiple confirmations (two emails, three calls, and a text), the experience again fell far short. I flew into NYC specifically for this appointment and timed my anxiety medication with the appointment time to ensure treatment would go smoothly. When I arrived early at their request, the hygienist attempted to rush me into treatment before the nitrous had taken effect, contradicting their claim of understanding dental anxiety care. Then I was told I would receive injections to numb my entire mouth, something never mentioned during the booking process, not listed online in the procedure description, and not disclosed in any of our prior conversations. I declined and requested standard numbing gel. The "two-hour" Periodontal Scaling and Root Planing began at 4:02 pm and ended at 4:32 pm, 30 minutes total. Literally. I was then told the reason was simply, "Your teeth are in such good shape." This is especially concerning given that four months earlier, I was told (during a basic cleaning) that my gums were in such poor condition they needed to stop mid-appointment to verify insurance approval for a deep cleaning. Yet now, after paying cash upfront, all four quadrants were completed in just half an hour. It feels inconsistent at best, and at worst, like a bait-and-switch situation. I also paid $215 for nitrous oxide. Based on the photo I took, the machine displayed 60% nitrous / 30% oxygen. At no point did I feel the typical physical effects one would expect--especially when combined with a prescribed sedative. It raises the question of whether the nitrous tank was empty or improperly administered. I've had nitrous EVERY dental appointment for 20 years - i know how I'm supposed to feel, I repeatedly said nothing was coming and I was fully alert, yet another scam. To summarize, I paid nearly $2,000 for: * A two-hour Periodontal Scaling and Root Planing that lasted only 30 minutes * Four quadrants of scaling, when realistically only one or two may have been addressed * Nitrous oxide that did not appear to be delivered as represented * An exam I was told was required, yet I never saw the dentist at all. Oh and on my statement, it stated I received an Ibero scan - never happened and the receptionist said, well you weren't charged for it. LOL. I am requesting reimbursement for the nitrous charge, two of the four quadrants, and the exam fee. Patients have choices in dental care. If a practice advertises expertise in treating dental anxiety, the staff should be trained to actually deliver on that promise. Unfortunately, my experience demonstrated the opposite.

They have all the high tech tools you need, and a lab on site for a very quick procedure, which is super crucial if you have anything beyond a regular cavity that needs addressing. The only thing worse than a root canal is a root canal that takes two--or even three(!) visits to complete. The time and trauma saved doing everything in one place is a valuable thing indeed. Amazingly for a city like NY, they fit me in quickly to take care of a not-quite emergency-but definitely concerning incident--my implant crown and screw just came out overnight-- it somehow just made it out as if it was never in there to begin with. They had me in that day and put everything back in place. I won't spill the details in a public forum but it was one of those freak occurrences that required some sleuthing and very steady hands. I saw Dr.Orlando and he was very knowledgeable and did an incredible job. I even sent him pictures so he could research the implant and find the right tools, before I came in, and when I got there everything was set up and good to go.
