Staying at the attached Ridgeline Hotel, this seemed like the easiest choice but that reviews were scaring me off. Decided to just go for it and was pleasantly surprised. Adults in the family hot half roasted chicken and the elk chili. Chicken was excellent - crispy skin, well seasoned, cooked perfectly. The elk chili was tasty, no complaints. Onion rings were hot and fresh, and a half dozen local beers were on tap. Overall the menu is a bit small but decent. The bar area has TVs but is separated from the dining room and no kids are allowed in due to the fact it's a casino in there. Staff was friendly if a little scattered. I'd come back. read more

Our first dine-in experience here in Gardiner, and it set a beautiful tone for our trip. The ambiance was very fitting for a date night. There is a variety of artwork, from fun posters to beautiful nature photos along the walls. For the dinner service, we also appreciated the candlelight feel with instrumental pop music in the background. We stayed primarily in the dining area but also noticed that the restaurant appears to have a bar and maybe casino in the backroom? A huge plus is a souvenir shop featuring tons of Huckleberry products next door. Now on to the food! We were very impressed. My husband ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich and I ordered the bison burger. The servers were all so friendly and kind and super helpful, recommending the bison to be cooked medium. The food portions were generous, the fries were crispy, and the bison burger was juicy with the right amount of tomato, lettuce, pickles, and melted Swiss cheese to make the flavors pop. Could you tell how much we loved the food? To top it all off, we ordered dessert and had the most delicious Huckleberry cobbler with Huckleberry ice cream. I asked the waitress if that was too much Huckleberry, and she said the ice cream was a hit -- it really made the dessert. Oddly, it was reminiscent of breakfast, but in the best way. The cobbler was warm, the Granola was crunchy, and the ice cream was cool and sweet. The medley of textures honestly made this the best dessert I've had this year. ABSOLUTELY AWFUL. We were the first ones in the line for a "wait." We stood there for ten minutes to be given a finger by the rude lady behind the desk. No name taken. No number asked for as a line formed behind us. She had no problem taking a texting break. We had to ask to give our name to create a true waitlist. We were told to come back in 10 minutes. This restaurant is attached to a motel. Not many choices in Gardiner. Food was very good. Service was fine. William was great. However, badly understaffed by owners cheap-on-service. Interesting decor, but blasted by HVAC vents that are not adjustable. Went there two times during our 5 day stay visiting all of Yellowstone during the day and returning to Gardiner at night. BE PREPARED, though, for outrageous prices all through Gardiner. Though the cost of living is 5% below the national average, food and drinks here rival or exceed airport pricing! We heard all the usual fake excuses from the local shops. Perfect example. Here at Yellowstone's , a no-frills 10 ounce ribeye is $45 before tax and tip. The wholesale / local market price for local ribeye from Wickens Ranch is around $20/lb. Two of us split a salad, the ribeye, two margaritas and ground bison nachos. Total was $120! Wages are $14 or so. There is a family market in Gardiner (only market within 50 miles, BTW). Prices there are reasonable and it's well-stocked. Like most if not all of these tourist traps (all selling made in China - and all the same merch in every store); a few local and import multi-millionaires control all the action, and then a giant subsistence class with very few middle-class. read more

We are staying at the Ridgeline hotel and we were hesitant to eat at this restaurant which is connected to a casino. We finally did go and eat there and to our surprise the food is pretty good compared to Wonderland Cafe. I ordered the half a chicken and it was crispy and moist inside compared to the one my husband order at the Wonderland cafe. We definitely enjoyed eating here. read more

The jerk of a dude at the counter with the crooked teeth, backwards hat and glasses, said, I have a recommendation of a restaurant called "The Yellowstone 'Something'".... Okay... well 95% of the businesses in this town are called Yellowstone 'Something'. I then said, "so you're recommending something that you don't know the name of?!" He then proceeds to get very crappy and tell me that we need to "get out of here, we don't want your business anyway." You want a successful business?! Gardiner, Montana is a great place to use as a home-base when visiting Yellowstone National Park. It's the north entrance to the park. While there we ate at a few places. One of the restaurants which stood out for us was the Yellowstone Mine Restaurant. When we got to the restaurant, we were told it would be a bit of a wait. Within a short while we were seated. The waitress (Marina) was attentive, friendly and helpful. I ordered their Meatloaf special with a side of onion rings and a cup of Elk Chili to start with. My wife ordered their classic hamburger and fries, it was really good food. Both were good large portions. The place is casual and plenty of parking. After eating at a couple of other places that week, we decided to come back for another evening. This time I had their Trout special with a cup of Elk Chili to start with, my wife had their Chicken Pot Pie. Both were very good. We definitely recommend this place if your In Gardiner, Montana. If you have to wait a bit to be seated and served, the food is good and worth the wait. The Elk Chili is really good. Come hungry and enjoy. Ask for Marina! read more

Great place and it was open in April. Best part is we are gluten free and we could order off the menu. The server was nice enough to find out that they have gluten free buns. For us, this was the best place to eat in Gardiner. The prices are high, as are all of the prices in gardener, restaurants; however, they serve large portions of everything and the food is very good. You have to try the huckleberry cobbler. It's actually apples and huckleberry mixed together. They have huckleberry ice cream you can put on. Itis very good. You can expect to spend about $50 for two people for a meal. The service was pretty good and the ambience was nice. No music just people talking. It is pretty much always packed full of guests in this establishment. That should tell you something. We went there this morning and they had a breakfast buffet which was very good. $18/person. They had everything you can think of except grits and waffles. They had fruit salad, bagels, toast, meat, eggs, cubed hash browns, pancakes, French toast, coffee, tea, juice, cold cereals, almond milk and regular milk, etc... Great food! read more

We got into town late, so our options were limited. The Yellowstone Mine was open, busy, and looked good. We were seated quickly. Then we got filled water glasses & some bread in record time. Next, our drink & meal orders were taken quickly by a friendly waitress. She was assisted by two efficient, smiling helpers. My husband & I ordered the hamburgers cooked medium. He asked for only mayonnaise and lettuce with fries. I asked for the burger with a salad with ranch dressing, instead of the fries. My husband got his burger with lettuce and NO mayo. He asked again for mayo, but when it didn't come in the next five minutes, he settled for catsup and mustard which was on the table. My dinner was fine. Both burgers were delicious, but a tad over cooked. His burger would have been better with mayo. Our friends ordered garlic Parmesan wings (very good) and a Caesar salad with grilled chicken. He got his wings when we got out burgers. She got her salad (more mixed greens than Romaine) and NO chicken five minutes after we got our burgers and wings. The waitress said it was coming. She never mentioned or brought the mayo my husband requested when she delivered our burgers. The grilled chicken came ten minutes later, with apologies and "no charge." It was peppery and our friend could not eat it. She thought it would be bland. Did I mention it was her birthday? Aside from not getting his burger the way he ordered it, and her getting a Caesar salad that really wasn't a Caesar salad with spicy chicken delivered after she ate half her salad, it wasn't a total disaster. But it came close. I doubt we'll try eating here again, but we might. The wings and my burger were good. And our waitress was nice. Her helpers were especially efficient at keeping our water glasses filled and clearing our dishes away when we were done. My family was here for the early breakfast buffet. NOT WORTH THE MONEY! No one was at the register to take us to our seats. All the seats were dirty except one apparently. Then when we went to get our food, there were no plates! How are we supposed to eat? We had to ask the staff to get more plates in which they replied with "we only have 2 workers." They also ran out of some items so we knew the wait would be quite long. I understand you're short staffed but we were the only ones who went in at that time. The 3-4 parties that were there were already eating and pretty much finished. 4 more plates is not much to ask for. Luckily we didn't eat because there were no plates so we had to leave. This restaurant was next to our hotel and provided the included buffet breakfast for hotel stays. Less than a 2 minute walk from our door to theirs, it was quite convenient. Additionally, as it was off-season, very few places were open, so we ate her for breakast daily and 2x for dinner. To keep it simple, I'll combine all visits for the rating and explain it. Daily breakfast buffet: real eggs- This is an automatic point earner as hotels looove to serve powdered egg-like-substace and I need protein in the morning. Wait staff were quick to offer freshly brewed coffee from the pot when they saw us heading for the containers at the buffet... another bonus. The continental items were not exceptional tho I'd say that they were likely provided by the hotel, since there were many logo items out. We found morning service to be quite good and it didn't occur to us until we had left that we should have checked the breakfast menu out. Evening: Again we enjoyed the wait staff - very friendly gal tho service was much slower but it was table service where the morning appeared to all be hotel guests porking in the buffet. The prices were definitely high for the meals and ambiance. We found the menu items to be enticing though, and it beat eating out of a cooler. Soups and bread were delish. The main meals were mixed. My filet mignon had a funny taste. I'm not sure if it was the seasoning or the meat. It was among the worst I've had, though cooked to proper temp. My husbands dish was to his liking. The beers were on point. At this point we were feeling rounding up to 4 stars would be reasonable EXCEPT the kitchen staff seem to be unaware (or not care) that everything they say can be heard by the diners & it is not an enjoyable experience. I didn't care for the way the kitchen staff talked (yelled) to wait staff or for their topics of conversation between each other. It was rude, inappropriate and noticed by several diners in disgust. We came at the end of the season, so be aware that you won't get seated immediately if you show up at 6pm or after. I had the chicken pot pie and elk chili, both are delicious. We ate at the Yellowstone Mine on a Monday evening. I read the reviews but my husband said try it. Although the staff was prompt, courteous and hustling, my meal was just meh. Asked for a club soda and received a Sprite- which was promptly changed when I brought it to the server's attention. The side salad was very crisp and fresh with romaine, carrots, cucumbers, and cherry tomatoes, but dressings were all bottled. My husband ordered the blackened trout with wild rice and grilled broccoli. He said they could have lightened up on the seasoning because it overwhelmed the trout. Other than that, he was ok with his food. I ordered the chicken pot pie. I've eaten chicken pot pie in all parts of the country but I've never had it served with canned veggies and a brownish canned gravy. The puff pastry crust was super flakey and good, and the serving size was very large. There was plenty of white meat chicken, but I just couldn't get past the canned filling. As others have noted, for $50+ price for 2 - even in a tourist town - it really wasn't worth it. read more

Don't waste your time. I agree with most of the reviews, the service is by far the worst part, however the food isn't great either. The bar has a pretty upbeat and fun feel to it, that's about the best part. If they'd light the fireplaces, it could be cozy. The bar also had good tv's so that was a plus. My husband got the Philly cheesesteak, and thought it was actually pretty good. It was huge, and had tons of fries. I got the chicken pot pie, I wouldn't recommend it. It had no flavor, and wasn't creamy. It had a decent amount of chicken and was large, but overall I'd give it a 3/10. Definitely don't ask for a cold glass with bottled beer, the server literally told me she could bring me one if I wanted to wait 30-40 minutes. Expect to get up and order most items from the bar, because servers don't come around after they greet you. I haven't tried the other local restaurants, but I can't imagine any being much worse than this. read more

Again one of the few places in Gardiner, MT that is still open for this time of year. The sign outside says breakfast, lunch, dinner but that is not accurate. They do breakfast until 10:00am I think then close until 4:00pm to re-open for dinner. We had a glass of white wine, a beer, the chicken pot pie w/side salad, the bourbon glazed meatloaf w/mashed potatoes and broccoli. We ordered the cookie sundae to go also. The total was $78.97. The pot pie had a flaky puff pastry crust but not a lot of flavor and kinda skimpy on the filling. The bourbon glazed meatloaf/potatoes/broccoli was decent. We ordered the chocolate chip cookie sundae to go and I don't think they were prepared for that request. The menu says a warm chocolate chip cookie topped with ice cream, whip cream and cherry for $12.99. The broke the cookie up in small pieces and put it in a soup cup with a lid, I don't think it was heated at all. The other soup cup with a lid had the ice cream with chocolate & caramel sauce but no whipped cream or cherry. Pretty disappointing when we got back to the hotel to enjoy our dessert. Me and my fiance ordered a ribeye,medium rare, and it came out extremely overcooked. Broccoli was great, mashed potatoes were good, but the steak was WAY over cooked. We spoke to management about our disappointment and Cedar said "ok" and walked away from us. We are locals that visit this establishment 4 to 5 days a week, drink,eat, and gamble and were trying to be professional with the upper management. "Cedar" to be exact, it was as if he didn't care at all. I would suggest ordering your steak at least 2 temps lower than you want it prepared. read more

How can a breakfast buffet have all cold food first thing in AM? Seems they took leftover breakfast meats, eggs and potatoes out of fridge and tried to reheat just using the butane burners. Sign says open at 630am but everyone waited until 645am before someone decided to come unlock the door and then proceeded to make everyone feel like we were a burden. The restaurant is pretty old and could use some updating, but the folks that were working here are super-friendly! The breakfast-buffet had a fair selection (sausage, biscuits/gravy, cereal, eggs, pancakes, orange juice, etc...). The food was so-so.
