We stopped in West Yellowstone and randomly found the Timberline whilst shopping and exploring. It was a nice looking diner-type restaurant, and to be honest, it was just ok. The service was just ok, and the food was just ok. we were there for lunch, and I went with the slider sampler. One (the bison) was good, one (the elk) was ok, and one (the mixed meats) was just eh. I got a couple bits of bone in the mixed meat one, which was not great. My wife got the hot turkey sammich. Again, it was just ok. I did like the interior of the cafe. It was cute. read more

This place came highly recommended with a 4.6 overall review through yelp, sadly that was not our experience. The staff was kind and courteous, the restaurant was clean and had the appearance of a great Mexican meal ahead, however that is where the 4.6 stars ended. Our waitress didn't know the menu, the salsa tasted as if we were eating straight out of a Morton's can of salt, the "carne asata burrito" was cubed meat, not proper carne asata strips of meat. My wife got veggie tacos and subsequently was in the restroom for an hour within the hour. Not a pleasant experience or aftermath. read more

After a long day on the road we stumbled upon Timberline Cafe. It was close to our hotel, Three Bear Lodge, and in the midst of all the touristy things that West Yellowstone has to offer. Cool place--seemed exactly like a cafe should in West Yellowstone. The food was pretty good and they served beer! I got a steak that was a touch undercooked, but our waitress was nice enough to knock a few bucks off. The salad bar was a nice touch, and it seemed fresh and plentiful. They also had a decent kids menu, which my son picked chicken tenders (go figure, right?). All in all, we had a decent meal and would recommend this place! read more

Overall, our experience was mixed, giving it an average of 3 stars. Went in for a late lunch and ordered double cheeseburger, split by two young kids, and two had the one time trip each to the salad bar. A drinks to go around. Let's start with the positive; the burger was a good sized portion, served with your choice of cheese, fresh romaine, sliced tomatoes and pickles, and fresh cut fries as a side, not bad. The one trip salad bar at $7 was a good bargain, in addition to fresh veggies to make a healthy plate, other offerings included boiled eggs, cottage cheese, croutons, dried fruit, nuts, and an assortment of dressings. Also on Clyde's was soup, which was some sort of beef barley. I was told was really good. I thought the plates were a bit small. We ordered a round a sodas, no refills by the way, which I despise because drinks are cheap I was sucking on my ice cubes after the first 10 minutes, not because I drank it fast but because the cups were on the small side of things. The macaroni salad tasted like Resers...which I like. The cottage cheese was good. The banana cream pie was a joke. Perhaps the baker never had a slice of that pie before because what they served was banana pudding in a pie shell. The young lady server showed her inexperience with such a basic pie by trying to say that the cream was in the pie. She said she makes the pie. She needs to google what the cream in banana cream pie means. And why bananas are an integral part. The hubby didn't like his roady beef sandwich. Said it was dry. Dad liked the shrimp and fries. Save yourself and eat elsewhere unless you want a deal with the salad. Staff was pleasant and prompt. read more

The yelp reviews weren't great, but we had vouchers from our hotel and thought, "surely they can't screw breakfast up," but here we are... As we walked in, there was a definite aura of "don't give a shit," and that was confirmed as we sat down and were handed lunch menus at 7a. Our waiter (in name only) had vanished. After a few minutes, my girlfriend finally got up and rifled through the host stand, retrieved our menus, and got some more for another table who were also sat with no menus. Our order was taken and delivered during the last encounter of the rarest Yellowstone species, the Timberline waiter. He would be spotted once more during our meal, playing intently on his iPad, but we never made eye contact, and I didn't bring my binoculars, so one can't be sure. Only the finest craftsmanship went into my breakfast burrito. To the naked eye, you'd think it was a normal burrito until you took the first bite and glowing hot egg magma dumped into your hand and rolled down your arm. The only thing more amazing is that the vegetable ingredients were completely raw. The breakfast potatoes were undercooked, and I had to go on a ketchup hunt to another table. All things that would be solvable if only there were a waiter. My girlfriend's coffee was never filled, but only because she couldn't find the pot to do it herself. Finally, we got another server to give us the sweet release of our check and we left. The two best parts of our meal were knowing that we'll never have to eat here again and the fact that, 30 min later, neither of us have diarrhea... yet. read more

After a long day in the park, we wanted a quick meal. When we walked into Timberline Cafe, the young girl doing the greeting was already frustrated as she was having to explain a 20-percent discount coupon to a lady; apparently there was a communication gap, even though they both looked to have immigrated from Istanbul. When that interaction was concluded, the girl acknowledged us (I wouldn't say "greeted") and put us at a table. The server was quickly at our table and we selected the bison slider trio. The sliders were supposed to be a selection of different game meats, but all seemed exactly the same, which is to say they were dry and tasteless. The fries were very good, as was the can of local IPA. Nobody came to our table to ask how everything was. Eventually the young greeter girl showed up to ask if we wanted the check, but my wife ordered a slice of blueberry pie with coffee. There was no coffee and the pie was sour and inedible; even if they'd just picked the blueberries off the bush, they would have tasted better. The girl grudgingly removed the pie from our bill. I paid and left a tip (though smaller than usual). As we walked out, I noticed some guy had come from the back to eyeball us, as if wanting to know just who had complained about the pie. Of course that could have been my imagination. Next time we return to West Yellowstone (probably never), we will definitely avoid this restaurant. read more

This restaurant was recommended to us for the salad bar and chicken fried steak. The salad bar looked good but we decided on a chicken Caesar salad and the chicken fried steak. The lettuce in the salad was wilted and nothing like what was on the salad bar. She ate maybe a half of the salad and told the staff it wasn't good. They responded with sorry. The chicken fried steak was big but had very little gravy on it. It was very tender and had a good flavor. It was the best thing we had during dinner, but I think it was way over priced at $24.00 for a chicken fried steak. We also tried the huckleberry lemonade and it was super sweet. We went here for dinner. We got there at 5 pm and there was no wait time. The waitress we had was super nice and attentive. I got the chicken parmesan. It's not the best I ever had but better than anywhere else we ate in town. My dinner came with a trip to the soup/salad bar which I liked over just being give a regular dinner salad that most places give you. The vegetables that came with my dinner were perfectly cooked but the angel hair pasta was just a tiny bit took cooked. The noodles weren't horrible just a little too soft. Husband got the Bison Burger and said it was good. My son got the fish and chips and liked it. It seemed like at least one person as every other table ordered the bison meatloaf. While Visiting West Yellowstone we ate at this cafe twice. My wife and I enjoyed the food, the service and the atmosphere. The food was great. The prices were great. The staff was Great. I'd recommend this place and if I lived close by I'd visit often. The menu is not overly full and they are masters of what they make. Definitely a must if you're in the area and they are open. We were still charged and when I asked to have it taken off the check , the manager came out and refused to take it off the check and took 10 percent off witch wasnt even the tax.
