The atmosphere and ambience was like hanging with a bunch of good friends in your own backyard being loud and no one is complaining. I was pretty satisfied with the flavor, the only downside is the price. I would say for the portion and quality it's a bit more expensive than other spots. Saturday at 6pm, we had a 15 minute wait. By the time we finished, there were way more people in line. The ice beer is pretty much your only beer option, but it's their specialty. The food is good but not great. The menu is also pretty small so you don't get a lot of choices. The fish crackers, black bean noodles, and corn cheese were good. We were disappointed the only soy garlic wings were boneless and the other flavors had bone in. Definitely skip the calamari cuz it was near impossible to chew. Honestly, this is a great pub for both drinks and food! While there can be a bit of a wait, the line moves quickly. Once seated, our food came out super fast and fresh--the only minor exception was the chicken skin mandu, which took a little longer, but was still worth it. Hmm as for pochas, this fits the vibe. However, I found the food selection/flavor and their portions just a bit lacking. If its meant to be a "everyone orders their own" then the portions arent too bad (the prices do reflect a single portion). I may be biased though as our rice order came in after we sent in TWO food orders. We ended up just cancelling it, our water wasn't filled constantly, and I believe water replenishment is an indicator for good service. Now I wouldn't say this as a driving factor as many restaurants are understaffed. The frozen beer was great! Something new, and as a beer hater, I would drink this. We ended up trying a good portion of the menu (not everything made it into the photos), and two dishes absolutely stole the show: the fried shrimp heads and the chicken skin mandu. Both were outstanding. The shrimp heads were crispy, savory, and incredibly addictive, while the chicken skin mandu was one of the most creative and memorable bites I've had in a long time. I've never seen either dish executed like this anywhere else. Major kudos to the chef for bringing something genuinely unique to the table. I was super excited to try Yeokjeon Halmaek after seeing all the hype on Instagram. We checked in on the Yelp iPad and we stood at the front entrance for several minutes without anyone acknowledging us. Eventually, we walked around the counter to figure out what was going on, and the waiter finally emerged from the restroom and told us to sit anywhere. By then, we had already helped ourselves to the popcorn machine. Ordering was done through an iPad. Our food and impressively ice-cold beers were brought to the table, but the waiter barely said a single word beyond directing us to our seats. We watched another table receive a warm welcome and attentive service from who appeared to be the owner, but she never stopped or glanced at our table. The beers were fantastic and honestly the only reason this review isn't lower. The frosty mugs were the highlight of the entire experience. As for the overpriced food... The Fried Filefish Fillet was served with peanuts and had a smell and flavor eerily similar to fish food. The texture reminded me of a Dorito chip, which was not what I expected. The Charcoal Grilled Chicken Skewers arrived slightly cold and tasted like they had been cooked earlier, reheated, and dipped in an overly sweet glaze. The Chicken Wings were crispy, but the batter immediately reminded me of Wendy's chicken nuggets. They came with French fries dusted with parsley flakes and shredded cabbage topped with dressing and Sriracha. Not terrible, but certainly not memorable. Unfortunately, this felt like one of those places where social media hype far exceeded the actual experience. Between the indifferent service and food that was barely elevated above bar snacks, there's really no reason for us to return. 3/10.
