INS brings you into a Korean poocha, bar vibe from the interior design and traditional looks. You are almost transported to Korea in Buena Park. We came for the frosted beers, soju, and food. Definitely over order food, kimchi pancake (4/5), bulgogi pizza (4/5), soy chicken (5/5), sukiyaki beef (3/5) along with frosted beers, Jinro soju, and strawberry makogeli. Kimchi pancake was crisp and flavorful. The puff pastry crust of the bulgogi pizza was light and fluffy. The chicken was moist and so flavorful. It's either the alcohol taking our taste buds to another level, or the food was just that good. All the drinks were great on its own. If you never had frosted beers, INS definitely delivers this fabulous drink between a root beer float in beer version. Who can resist frosty beer mustache! Jinro soju was yummy that we finished 3 bottles... the Strawberry makogeli washed away any alcoholic taste- just a fruity strawberry drink. Service was good and quick, we got all our food and requests taken care of. Gotta order less so that we have room for desserts, the bingsol looks good but no room. Love the ice beer but the food is rather forgettable and gimmicky, aimed at foreigners. We ordered so many dishes here, but most were subpar and the best ones were mid at best. It's like there's only two choices here for food, very spicy or not at all. It's also missing the classic Korean pocha dishes that I would expect at such an establishment. We came as a group of 4 at 6:30 on a Friday, and it wasn't too busy. The inside is very spacious but music was very loud, which makes sense because it's a bar. Our goal, however, wasn't to drink but to eat. We ordered: beef sukiyaki, fish cake soup, beef and bean sprout stir fry, chapagetti, and one glass of their famous ice beer. The beef sukiyaki was very good, with a good portion of meat. I was surprised with how good the beef and bean sprout stir fry was, and definitely will be getting it again. The fish cake soup was warm and comforting, the broth being slightly spicy had a nice kick. The chapagetti, unfortunately, is a hard pass for me next time. There was nothing wrong with the dish but I was a little bit ashamed of myself for paying $12 for it when I make it at home for less than $3. Lastly, the INS beer was pretty good. I'm not a drinker at all but I liked the icy thing on top. Service was friendly. Overall I would come again, and definitely come early or else there will be a wait the later you go. read more

I have been twice to INS and I would say this spot is great for bigger groups or if you just wanted to hangout one evening. First time I went, I went with a huge group of 15 people. The second time I went, we were 5 people. Make sure to put your name on earlier because it is a busy spot. You have to have at least 90% of your party there or they will give away your table. It is recommended to wait there the whole time so you don't get your table skipped. During this visit, we ordered fried chicken, potato pancake and pork with rice cakes. The fried chicken isn't anything special. Normal soy garlic korean fried chicken. I quite like the potato pancakes since it was crispy and served with a dipping sauce. Be warned that the pork with rice cakes is quite spicy! We also ordered rounds of Apricot Soju and the famous INS Ice beer which is a beer glass that is super cold and frozen. Your beer stays cold throughout the time that you're drinking it. You can also get the slush version of it and it's quite refreshing as well. The customer service is pretty good despite it being quite busy. I like that the menu is on the screen attached to the table and you can order off from it. You can also request utensils, water and more so it makes for quick customer service. The servers were all very friendly and helpful. One comment I have to say about the place is that it is LOUD. They play edm, kpop and more. You have to speak pretty loudly to the people around you and it gets progressively louder as the night goes on since it closes at 2am. I also recommend showing up before 10pm in case the ice beer mugs run out! read more

Disclaimer: My review is based on coming with a large party. I came with a party of 15 on a Friday night. They don't take reservations so we came to put our name down on the waitlist with an estimate of a 2 hour wait at 6pm. We hung out a different bar in The Source until then. We checked back in 2 hours later and they estimated an additional hour wait. When we did get seated at 9pm, we couldn't get seated together. We were placed at 3 different tables across the restaurant. So all this to say, it's probably better if you're coming with a smaller group. This place isn't readily able to accommodate large parties. It's been so hot and humid so we were excited to get their ice cold beer that they're known for. We sat indoors and it was so hot inside too - we could not feel an a/c. We were half expecting the beer to be like a cold slushie, instead, it was a cold beer in a cold glass, which would otherwise be okay, but the room was also so warm that within 5-10 minutes of having the drink, the beer was room temperature. We all know what room temperature beer tastes like haha. You order everything on their iPad and call the servers over on the iPad, which is useful because it was so hard to wave down a waiter for even a water refill. The music is also booming loud so you have to yell in order to hear each other speak. Not for millennial ears haha. The food was also nothing to write home about. The corn cheese was the least liked - it was way too sweet that it tasted like a spoonful of sugar in your mouth. We also got the fried chicken wings (not super crispy), crispy potato pancake (a little on the oily side), fish cake hotpot (good), army stew was actually spicy (though lacking - it only contained two bundles of ramen noodles, sliced spam, sliced sausages, cheese, and green onion. What usually can be found in army stew that were missing included rice cakes, beans, kimchi, mushrooms, tofu...). I'd say the standout for sure was the braised chicken as it was really tender and had a lot of flavor! Def a great pairing w the makegoli and ice beer! Location: there is plenty of seating! The ice beer was definitely the draw for us to come here on a hot day. I enjoyed it for what it was, but it came with a thick layer of foam, and ice cold foam isn't exactly my cup of tea. As for the food, we thought the prices were pretty fair. We got the beef sukiyaki, and I really enjoyed this. The broth and dipping sauce were delicious, though the beef cuts tend to run on the fattier side. Still solid, nonetheless. We also got the buldak fried chicken, and I really liked that the chicken was boneless and mostly juicy dark meat. The last thing we got was the sweet corn pancake, and this one I didn't enjoy as much, mainly because it was overly cheesy and also mega greasy. It had way more cheese than corn. The best pocha I've been too so far!! I went with a few friends on a Saturday night and the wait was not bad at all, maybe around 30 minutes. It was pretty spacious and clean inside + the music volume was perfect. The beer was surprisingly affordable around $9; I was expecting about $12. The food was also pretty tasty! Disappointing Experience We waited about an hour to be seated on a Friday night around 9:30 PM. The ice cold beer was definitely a highlight, but unfortunately, the food and service were disappointing. We ordered a few items. The kimchi pancake was good overall, but the middle was extremely salty. We also ordered the sukiyaki expecting something hearty and flavorful, but were surprised by the huge amount of bean sprouts hidden underneath the thinly sliced meat. It was basically a bean sprout soup with a little meat. I think the menu should have a better description of the dish so customers know what to expect. The service was basically nonexistent. After being seated, we ordered everything through a tablet. The staff dropped off the food, but no one came back to check on us, offer refills, or ask how everything was. Came here on a Monday night and was pretty surprised to see that most of the tables were full. The ice beer is a must get. Would recommend drinking it within like 20 minutes to enjoy the nice cold crisp taste. The matcha makgeoli was also good! I finally came to try the famous ice beer! For anju, we ordered the beef sukiyaki, tteokbokki, kimchi pancake, and assorted fries. Everything was tasty, satisfying, and great for sharing between sips. Im more health conscious and try to limit MSG prepped food, but boy oh boy, it was so flavorful and bomb. Decided to try this spot after a friend sent me videos on social media. I was intrigued by their ice beer, and it was easily the best thing we ordered. Each beer was ice cold with a frothy top. It tasted the best when it first came out. For food, we ordered the kimchi pancake 5/5 and spicy chicken and noodles dish 4/5. The kimchi pancake had a crispy outer layer and was very flavorful. Ice cold mugs wasted on mediocre temperature beer. If you come on a Friday, be ready to wait 1.5 hours to 2+ hours. We put our names down and headed to a nearby restaurant to eat. Otherwise, you'll just be waiting outside near the street. Back to the ice cold beer. The mugs are held in a freezer and the beer is coming out of a normal draft. When they bring the beer over, it looks great. After 1-2 minutes, you realize the beer isn't as cold as it looks. It's a novelty way of ordering drinks. We ordered the normal and strawberry makguli, they were good in a almost weird way. They serve it in what looks like prison water bowls you see in old school prison movies. If it's your first time, I would recommend trying it. The corn pancake was doughy and sucked. This place is LOUD! If you're on the older side 30+, this might bother you. SO GOOD, this place is the best for any large groups! My favorite spot for beer and snacks with friends! Their iconic INS ice beer is beautiful the icy glass and the foam on top, idk if it's a placebo effect but I swear beer just tastes better here. We also tried the matcha makgeoli which is great to order if anyone at your table is more into cocktails than beer! It was on the sweeter side so if you enjoy a sweet matcha cocktail you will like it! They also serve different sojus both flavored and unflavored! We tried plentyyy of their food this time around: curry tteoboki, wings, bulgogi pizza, pancake and ALL of it was delicious! The curry tteoboki was not too spicy and had a yummy flavor, the tteok was cooked perfectly chewy. The bulgogi pizza was TO DIE FOR the puff pastry crust combined with the bulgogi was a hit at our table! The wings were also SO GOOD the plate was HUGE and came with fries and a salad. The pancake was pretty standard still good but not as wow as the other items we tried! Service was quite slow but they were also really busy when we came so makes sense. We probably waited around 20+ minutes for our food dishes after ordering them which didn't feel as long with good company but would definitely recommend to know what you want and order as soon as you sit down! Drinks did come out faster though! It really does feel like a little transport to Korea when you step in! They have some hanok style elements in the decor which is pretty cool! They also appear to have a photo area near the front! Located in The Source in Buena Park there is plentiful parking making it an easy spot to meetup with large groups! Came here on a Thursday night with a friend, the World Cup was on so there was a little bit of a wait around 8pm. We waited about 30 mins. You order off the tablet and there's no notifications on anything. We ordered the chicken soy garlic and it came with really good season fries but you can't order just the fries (we wanted to order extra) the chicken were large battered chunks, I wish they were wings and drumsticks. Welcome to Day 8 of OC Food Journals, where I try a new place every day so you don't have to. Okay, this place was everywhere on my feed. I had been seeing a ton of videos about it, and apparently it's a really popular Korean pub-style spot in Korea. So when they opened at The Source in Buena Park, I knew I had to check it out. Let's start with the ambience. The restaurant has a lot of space between the tables, so it doesn't feel cramped or crowded at all. That can be a good thing, but personally, I actually prefer places like GAAM in LA or Soju Belly in Garden Grove, where the tables are a little closer together. I like that more social drinking atmosphere where you can actually interact with the people around you. Here, everyone is kind of on their own little island, so I wouldn't say it's the best place if you're looking to socialize with random people. That being said, the place itself was definitely lively. There were plenty of younger people there drinking and hanging out, so if you're looking for a fun night out with a good crowd, the atmosphere definitely works. One downside is the table size. Most tables only comfortably fit four people, and even the booths would probably be a tight squeeze for six. The tables are also bolted down, so you can't really move them around to accommodate a bigger group. So if you're planning a big night with a lot of people, keep that in mind. There's also a little photo booth near the entrance, which I thought was pretty cool. It takes your picture and prints it out on what looks like a receipt. Definitely a fun little touch. Now for the food. Two dishes I would absolutely get again are the stir-fried beef with bean sprouts and the whole shrimp cheese fondue. The beef was sweet, salty, and really flavorful, while the bean sprouts helped balance everything out with their more neutral flavor. Honestly, it worked really well with drinking. The shrimp cheese fondue was also really good. It had a strong spicy and salty flavor, and while it was definitely on the heavier side, I thought it was delicious and would order it again. We also tried the kimchi pork stew and cup ramen fried rice. Neither was bad, but neither really stood out either. They were basically what you'd expect from bar food, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. And the ice beer really was ice cold, served in those freezing cold glasses like they advertise. We did order a pizza too, but that turned into a whole situation. We waited almost our entire time there and it still never came out. They told us they only have one oven and make the pizzas to order, so there was a backlog. We eventually just cancelled it. So if you're coming here specifically for the pizza, just know you might be waiting a while. As for the price, I'm not going to pretend this is an affordable place. It's definitely on the more expensive side. But considering the location at The Source, the size of the restaurant, and the fact that it's a popular Korean pub concept, I can understand why the prices are what they are. If you're already planning on going out for drinks and making a night of it, I wouldn't be too bothered by the price. Overall, I actually had a good time here. I'd come back, and I could see myself bringing a date or even relatives visiting from out of town. The atmosphere is lively, the space is nice, and there are definitely a couple of dishes I'd order again. The biggest downsides for me are the price, the smaller tables, and the fact that it's a bit of a drive if you're not already in the Buena Park area. P.S. One thing I thought was interesting is that you actually order everything through an iPad at the table, and the staff just brings your food and drinks out to you. All the utensils are stored underneath the table, so you really don't interact with the waiters very much at all. The Fen Hao Zi Noodles GCO Dak has thick, chewy Chinese potato starch noodles and chicken tossed in a spicy sauce. The noodles had that signature bouncy, springy texture that made every bite incredibly fun and satisfying, while the chicken soaked up all the sauce's flavor. Both dishes were outstanding in their own way, and if I had to do it all over again, I'd order them both without hesitation. This visit only scratched the surface of what they have to offer. Parking is through the parking structure next to The Source, but if you're coming later in the evening, it shouldn't be a problem.its located in the corner of the plaza. We walked in and were immediately confused. It was loud with KPOP blasting in the background. A server asked us for how many, and when we showed two fingers, he walked away. We assumed to follow him, but then he shook us head no and said to wait. After a few seconds, the manager came up to seat us after asking for how many. We were seated in the corner of the place and were explained on how to use the iPad and where our utensils were. The manager was a very kind man and he wore a white shirt, while the servers were in all black. We ordered their soy chicken platter and two ice, cold beers. The beers were the best beers ever! The temperature of the glass really made it smooth. It was delicious. Their chicken was okay; too saucy for my liking. It came with fries and a cabbage salad that had ketchup and mayo on top. I actually really like their side chips that are for snacking and drinking. It was crunchy and tasty. When we finished our time and were ready to go, we clicked the call button on the iPad and asked for the check. A girl gave us our check and left. When I called for her to ask where we pay, she didn't answer me. I had called for her multiple times. It got to a point that we just walked our check up to the front and the guy was laughing at her. The three stars is for very unclear directions on the role of the servers. We spent most of our time trying to figure out who to talk to and how to pay. We ended up leaving our chicken because we didn't get a to go box. The servers were also no where to be found. I understand the iPads are for seamless service and no need for communication with people, but to have difficulty paying is different. I'd come back for the beers and snacks. New-ish pocha in OC! Came here on a thursday night w a few friends, who all came to try their ice beer. Unfortunately, the day we came, the AC was broken so we were suffering for a bit. However, the servers did warn us when we walked in but we decided to stay anyways. We came at 7 PM and there wasn't many people inside & we got seated very quickly. The restaurant definitely filled up a lot more closer to 9 PM. We ordered various dishes such as the soy garlic fried chicken (very yum), fish cake (nothing special), kimchi pancake (not crispy, would probably skip), pizza (very interesting flavor combo - sweet and salty), spicy chicken w/ rice cake (super spicy LOL). I loved their fried chicken - very tender & flavor was great. The portions were good too and honestly, prices were cheaper than other pochas I've gone to. Their soju bottles were $13 each. The ice beers were honestly super mid - they were just cold beer? Tasted like the same beer you can get at any other restaurant LOL... if you're coming for that expecting it to blow your mind, you will probably be disappointed. Finally gave this place a try and the wait was insane! Honestly, this place is a little overhyped. The ice cold beers are cool yes, but the food is meh. It didn't really impress me especially with the long wait. The soy garlic chicken and spicy rice cakes (spicy!) were really good however! I was most excited to try the sukiyaki beef since the concept was interesting to me, but the meat was very tough to chew and it was average in flavor. The corn cheese was very creamy (almost soupy) and was a nice touch, but I wouldn't come here just for that. The bulgolgi pizza was too sweet and the puff pastry was just a strange combination for me. Overall, I feel like this place is overhyped and I would rather go Misoolkwan instead. read more

This pocha gets pretty busy on weekend nights and you would have to place your name down on their paper waitlist. This place is perfect for a hangout with your friends and the vibes inside is great. The boonmoja is a must get but is super spicy. The fried chicken is also great but I would skip on the corn cheese. I would definitely come here again for a late night grub with friends. read more

Located at The Source mall plaza on the first floor. Luckily I came when it opened, it filled up quick and couldve had a long wait. It's known for their ice beer, get it ! From what I heard, Pro Tip: let it sit for 1-2 mins for the mug to defrost before you drink it so it could get a bit slushy. It was refreshing and delicious! Even if you chug it immediately, still very good regardless. They aren't able to share which beer they used, but it's on draft. Oh and they provide some sort of bar snacks right when u sit down, perfect to much with some drinks. We also ordered the sukiyaki hot pot. I love this place and yes! The beer is truly the coldest in town! Things we tried and made note of: -Matcha Makgeolli (5/5 stars as it's perfect for sharing between 1-4 people with each person getting multiple servings. Not overly sweet and so creamy and so yummy) -Honey cheese chicken (3/5 stars because the seasoning was excessive, it would amazing in moderation) -Beef Sukiyaki (5/5 stars we order this almost every time we've been here) -Bacon Potato Pizza (5/5 stars, very filling and super crispy cheese on the ends. Really great spot to hang out and grab drinks with friends. The ice beer is excellent, and they offer several flavors of makgeolli. We tried the strawberry makgeolli which was delicious. For food, we ordered the army stew, but it was a little too spicy for my taste. While there's a decent variety of food options, I do wish the menu had a few more items to choose from. The servers were friendly and attentive; they noticed when we finish our ice beers and immediately asked if we wanted another round.
