Confession: I used to not share Yes Thai with my friends because I didn't want everyone to figure it out and overcrowd the restaurant. Since then, I've moved to a different neighborhood, so I feel more inclined to share. Yes Thai serves the very best Thai food that I've had in the entire city of Chicago. Seriously. It's never greasy - and their treatment of tofu should be mandatory for all restaurants. It's perfect. I've been dining at Yes Thai for about 5 years now. They do dine-in or carryout - not sure on delivery. They are consistently excellent with food quality. It's BYOB, which is also one of my faves. They'll even bring a wine stand to your table to chill white wine for you - love them! Some of my favorites from their menu are in the appetizer section: spring rolls, steamed veggie pot stickers, chicken or tofu satay - you really can't go wrong. They also have fantastic noodle dishes - pad sei ew and pad thai - and their curry is delish. This is a must-try stop for the city of Chicago. read more

So, there are two types of Thai places. The kind that you get Pad Thai from and the kind that makes you want to try something out of your comfort zone. This is a Pad Thai place. Not that it isn't good! They have one of my favorite Pad Thais I've tried recently! We got chicken Pad Thai, spicy beef salad, potstickers, and chive dumplings. The chive dumplings were GOOD. I'd never gotten them before, and I was pleasantly surprised. They're similar to green onion pancakes, and they're served with an extra strong soy sauce. I'd highly recommend getting them as an appetizer. As I said above, the Pad Thai is great. I usually try to stretch it into two meals, but I can't because it's so good. This is my go-to spot for Thai in the neighborhood. Not only is the food delicious (crab rangoon is the bomb) the staff are super friendly and fast. For one of my deliveries the driver (from the restaurant, not GrubHub etc.) walked the food up to my door on the 3rd floor before I even started down the stairs to the lobby. I have long favored Yes Thai as a fabulous Thai restaurant on the northside. I always start with the crab rangoons and usually go though the list of rice dishes which are so good. This time I got the Garlic rice dish and I love that they only put sauce on the meat and the vegetables are stir fried separately. Makes it really light and then the veg aren't doused in sauce. Perfect. My husband got the chicken pad Thai and it was pretty good but not very traditional, different enough to make you crave THAT particular recipe. Ok, Yes Thai: are you listening? Speaking of your non traditional pad thai: it came out and smelled like dog food. Literally. Don't know if you used a particular spice, but I would retry your recipe. My husband Liked it enough to not complain and we definitly informed a friend we saw walking in about the two bites that also tasted similar to Purena. We will be back because we love this place but my huz will stick with Rama Special next time. read more

White floors, white chairs, white walls, white fixtures: was I in Miami or Chicago? This neat little Thai restaurant delivers more than you'd expect -- I'm only sorry that it was my last meal during my recent trip to Chicago because I would have wanted to return. As for an appetizer, I selected the Signature Satay, as opposed to the regular Satay and was blown away. The dark red sauce, while not explicitly described as a peanut sauce, did have a slight peanut flavor and it was VERY SPICY. I'm not complaining -- it's just that I wasn't expecting it. Additionally, in the Signature Satay, there were 6 pieces of chicken -- 2 to 3 more than you usually get in a Satay appetizer in an ordinary Thai restaurant. Curry dishes are usually my barometer dish when trying a new Thai restaurant, so I tried the Penang curry with....catfish. I wanted something different, and catfish as a choice of protein isn't something I've seen before, so I figured why not. As a note, it's listed on the menu as Crispy Catfish, which I learned is not breaded, but rather deep fried. With the curry dish, I had a choice of white rice, brown rice, boiled rice noodles, or deep-fried rice noodles. Intrigued, I tried the deep-fried rice noodles, which are wide chow fun noodles that are fried to a crisp. Not a cardiologist's recommendation, but they soaked up the curry sauce perfectly with a crunchy finish. Go for it. NOTE: The curry dishes have a regular spice level of 2 out of 5. I ordered 3 out of 5 and it wasn't painful at all. read more

Took my family for dinner Sunday night, and it was busy but we were seated almost immediately. It's bright and clean interior is striking as you approach from the street. Friendly wait staff greeted us and made us comfortable. We ordered 4 appetizers and five dishes as we always do family style when eating Asian cuisine. We tried to order a variety of dishes to get a tasting and feel for their cooking. Being somewhat familiar with Asian cuisine but every place defines things differently. The spicy hot was hot, and we like that, while garlicky was really loaded and my wife liked that. So when they describe dishes it is accurate from our perspective. We did find everything very tasty, veggies were fresh and sauces were delicious. Highly recommend and we will be going back! read more

I really like YES.. Their food is delish! I usually get their garlic noodle or their pad Thai along with some crab rangoons. They also have spinach rangoons which are just as amazing. If you like soba noodles they have an awesome soba noodle dish too. I've tried almost everything on their menu and have almost never been disappointed. (Except once when I found a huge long black disgusting hair in my noddles that they tried to deny and we're mad that I wanted a new dish to replace it...it was a SUPER annoying experience) But needless to say, the restaurant is cute and chic; all white walls with white furniture. It makes you feel like you're in a movie. It's BYOB which is also a plus. I'd come here more often if it wasn't so pricey. It's about $20 for a little noodle dish and an appetizer (which I feel is super steep ESPECIALLY FOR NOODLES) I would recommend coming with a few friends and sharing. read more

I have been going to this restaurant for over 10 years and it was one of my favorites. The past 2 times I have visited the service has not been good and the food was not as good. Last visit on July 18, 2019 the shrimp was overcooked, very rubbery and difficult to chew. The cashew chicken (which was one of my favorite dishes) is now more like a sweet and sour dish with pineapple. Asked if they were under new management/ownership and they stated yes. My sister and her family have also been going to Yes Thai for many years. We are very disappointed in the service and the food and we will be looking for a new Thai restaurant. read more

I adore Thai food and am always on a quest to find the best. One place will have good satay, but bad pad see eiw; another will have great food, but bad service. You get the picture - I am like Goldilocks when it comes to Thai food. The luminous Beth R and I decided to have dinner last night and finding places open on a Monday evening is no small feat, but some Yelp perusal yielded Yes Thai. It had a 4 star average for 100+ reviews, it was close to her house and we were both in the mood for Thai, so we were sold. Walked in at 6:30 and the place was empty. Normally this would be a bad sign for me, but I wasn't overly concerned since it was still relatively early and also a notoriously slow evening for restaurants. The place itself is white. All white. Startlingly white. I felt oddly tan in here and that never happens. We were led to a table and there was a beautiful iris adorning it, as well as the surrounding tables. I touched it because I wasn't even sure it was real, but it was. Nice touch, and a welcome burst of color in this otherwise austere decor. The waiter, a dead ringer for Lloyd from "Entourage", approached us and gave us menus, and I was pleasantly surprised by how extensive the menu was. I had skipped lunch, and coupled with the fact that I'm a pig, I ordered two appetizers, without much consulting my dinner partner. I chose the veggie egg rolls and chicken satay - my litmus tests for Thai restaurants. The veggie rolls were great; plump, crispy, and sized right, i.e., not big enough to ruin one's appetite, but not skimpy either. The satay was 6 huge pieces of juicy chicken breast with a decent peanut sauce (I've had better) and a bounty of fresh cucumber salad. I ate three skewers in rapid succession, leaving the others for my friend, but being the dainty eater that she is, she only had one. For our entrees, she ordered her usual mixed vegetables with tofu and I ordered one of my usuals, pad see eiw with chicken. Her dish looked great - plenty of fresh vegetables that didn't looked to be drowning in sauce or cooked to death. I enjoyed mine as well, but I prefer when Chinese broccoli is used instead of regular broccoli as I like the bitterness it imparts; otherwise this dish can seem kind of bland. The service was friendly and efficient. The place never got too busy, but the phone was ringing quite a bit with I assume were carryout and delivery orders. I'm still on a mission to find the best Thai food, but Yes Thai is definitely the front-runner so far. read more

Yes, Yes Thai pleased me. And isn't that what's most important? Ordered the lunch special, the Garlic Chicken and Rice. It came with two crab rangoons, which might be the best I have ever eaten. Then the main dish arrived and was absolutely beautiful! I can honestly say I have never said that about a dish. But really! The brown rice was this gorgeous reddish brown, the chicken was a rich honey colour, and the broccoli/snappea/corn/carrot medley was an intense mix of greens, oranges and yellows. It was like art. Delicious, delicious art. (In case you are wondering, there are like 15 different kinds of lunch specials, which range from $6.50 to $7.50 and include a choice of one of three appetizers.) As for the taste, the chicken was certainly garlicky, but aside from that, the vegetables and rice had no seasoning on whatsoever, and nothing was provided - not even salt. But that's OK, I tend to like food in its natural state anyway. Could I have gotten salt if I had wanted? Well, I dont know. The service, while very efficient, but rather blase and not cheery or very friendly, so who knows. I liked the interior, with its mix of modern and traditional Thai decor, but the electronic dance music was out of place and odd. But I guess its better than no music at all! All in all, a decent place to have a relatively inexpensive, yet filling, lunch. read more

I've been going here for a couple of years, as my previous reviews show. On Saturday a couple of weeks back (2/28 I believe), I had a whole new experience. On Saturday, I ate a light, simple breakfast before a busy day. After running a ton of errands, cleaning my apartment, and working out, I was ready for dinner with my fiance. We ordered dishes we've had before. I ordered the red curry, which is one of my favorite foods. Everything seemed on point, until about one hour after I ate. There are some things that no person should see another person do. And the results of the food poisoning I experienced forced my fiance to witness sights, sounds, and smells that are above and beyond the call of duty. I talked to my doctor, talked to my pharmacist, and they all confirmed that this was definitely food poisoning, and were even pretty sure they knew the type. I know sh*t happens ...I mean, it REALLY happened for me. So I don't believe the restaurant is dirty or that they don't care about food sanitation. I believe that a mistake was made by them or one of their suppliers or distributors, and that happens from time to time. What I don't appreciate is that when I called in a frantic state, having just sh*t myself, the manager on duty made no apologies, just excuses. She looked up my account, and she knew I was a long-time customer. And she did not even try to help the situation, but just insisted that there was "no way" it was their fault (and then putting the phone down and frantically asking other employees how long it takes to get food poisoning....). It was really unprofessional. It was very frustrating. I won't be eating there again, which is a loss for everyone because it's a result of the poor service, not the food poisoning. I even left my contact information with the manager on duty so that she could have the regular manager get back to me, but i never heard back. On the plus side, I now know how to lose 4 lbs in 3 days. read more

Perhaps you are familiar with the recent movie THE INVISIBLE, where a guy is beaten almost to death, and his spirit has to figure out who attacked him, or something, but nobody can see or hear him, except sometimes he can scream to make his girlfriend hear him. I don't really know for sure, since I only saw the trailer, and the movie looked pretty stupid, but I imagine that it was a lot like the experience I had last night at Yes Thai. Except instead of being brutally beaten and having to figure out whodunit, we ordered and had to figure out where in the hell our food was, all while being completely invisible to the wait staff. In fairness, the menu offers a note about "Asian style food service", and how food is brought out as it is prepared, so it's customary to start eating before everyone at your table is served, because your companions will get their food not long after you do. However, nowhere does it say that you will watch helplessly as people who were not even BORN when you placed your order come in, eat, and leave, before you even get a whiff of your Phuket noodles. So, I don't think it's out of line for me to be annoyed that we didn't get even a word of explanation when our food finally showed up. Also, one of the guys who sat at the table next to us (in total, three groups of diners occupied the table next to us during the course of our meal) had really huge gauges in his ears, which were repulsive. And then another guy came in wearing a bandana around his head, Karate Kid style. However, the food, when it eventually showed up, was delicious. So, my advice would be to skip the weirdos and the terrible service, and get it delivered. Thank you. read more

I say "Yes" to Yes Thai. Friendly, fast service. Very comfortable, yet upscale (white tableclothes and wine buckets provided). Off the beaten path, but close enough to get to...great prices, excellent portions, yummy/hot food. And obviously, my favorite part...BYOB. ;) Definitely worth a try! I debated giving this place three or four stars, I was torn. It is kind of small, but the staff is friendly and nice, and the food is pretty good. But... I love pad seiw, it is what I judge all Thai restaurants on. It is my favorite Thai food. Yes, I know, "but it's not authentic!" but I like it, so there. Yes' pad siew was only average, I have had way better, and therefore the restaurant itself, only average. What is beyond pretty average is the Rama Special with Chicken. Their peanut sauce is fantastic! Seriously the concept of licking the place doesn't cover it here... I would have not only licked the plate, but I would have eaten anything covered with that sauce. Old shoe? Yummy. Rubber tire? Delicious, pass me some more. If that was the only thing I ever ate there, this would have for sure been a four star review. But alas, in the end, three it is. Well, let me explain--the last time I was there with the hubby, the 2 women waiting on customers were wearing clothing so skimpy, I thought I had wandered into Hooters--good gracious. Since they were wearing exactly the same thing, I assumed this was their uniform--if it is--I hope it changes because I honestly DO NOT need to see butt cheek walking away from me when I get my food--does not make for an appetizing time--ugh. I do truly like this establishment & frequent it often for the yummy food, the very reasonable prices & the outdoor seating. Portions are pretty generous & I never leave here hungry. Yes Thai has a pretty small menu, and it's strictly AmeriThai, but for what it is, it's good. The food is fresh, the prices are reasonable (though higher than they once were), and the staff is friendly. I recommend eating in, rather than getting delivery. The restaurant is tiny, but cute, in a little storefront on Damen. In the warm months, they serve outside as well. They have a decent lunch special for $7.50, that used to be great at 6 bucks. The only reason I don't recommend Yes Thai for delivery is that other Thai places with better food serve the same delivery area. Sorry Yes Thai! But if you're in the area, it's a comfortable place for a predictable meal. read more

A fantastic BYOB option with reasonable prices (3 people, 2 appetizers and 3 entrees for $34) The food was very tasty with lots of flavor and spices. The portions of the entrees were generous, the appetizers were a little skimpy. All in all, the place is great and I am addicted to BYOBs so this fits the bill. Small place that can easily be taken for only a take-out joint, but make sure and eat in sometime. I tried the Tom Yum soup which was perfectly spicy on a 15 degree night. The Panang Curry was good but the Chu-Che Shrimp was amazing. This is a BYOB so make sure to bring some liquor. The wait staff was friendly and attentive and must have known that the dishes we had were hot because they refilled the water about every minute or two. Jesus - I hate to bust a neighborhood joint. It's down the street and I want them to do well. love this place but they just jacked up their curry prices. On the website, it is $10 even -- that's right, for a curry dish. I guess they charge a $1 for tofu, chicken or beef -- yep, it's not included. we ultimately are paying $25 and change for what I thought would be cheap take-out! The food is really good and I don't want my food to be "Cheap" but my God those prices jumped too high. I think $9-10 TOTAL per entree is fair for curry. Since it's opening many years ago, this has been my family's go to Thai place. It has had many appearances over this time, but has always been clean and inviting though the space is very small. The service is quite average, nothing much to mention. The prices teeter on the pricier side of reasonable. The food, however, is outstanding. As a younger person, I wasn't very adventurous outside of my normal dishes though my mother tended to sample much of their menu. Even after years away, I've been able to return on multiple occasions and order my usual dishes with every bit of confidence as if I was a regular. Our favorites have been panang curry, pad woon sen, and rama chicken. And they have the best spring rolls that I've never been able to find anywhere else! read more
