I usually get a little concerned when I see a very large menu. When there are that many options, it can sometimes mean nothing really stands out and how can a chef/cook get so many things right? In this case, I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the chile verde omelet, and it was very good. It was flavorful and clearly something they do well. My server was very sweet and welcoming, which always matters to me. After I was seated, I was left alone for some time. It wasn't a big deal as I wasn't in a rush. As I mentioned, everyone was very friendly. If you are traveling through Jamestown, this place is worth a stop. 3 1/2 stars. Group of us stopped here on way home from a weekend trip. They have an awesome menu with a great variety of breakfast/lunch offerings (see my menu photos). You'll definitely find something to satisfy your hunger here! The four of us all had breakfast plates and they were all solid, but nothing spectacular to warrant a higher rating. Portion sizes were average. An interesting option on many plates is the "senior size" that is smaller (and costs less) compared to the standard offering. The service was great. There was lots of patrons on a Sunday morning, so that is a good indication that this is probably one of the better places in the small town to grab a bite to eat. read more

While walking in it looked decent from the outside but once I observed further it came off more like a diner vibe, not a restaurant. Also I was disappointed when I tried to go to the bathroom and there was only one with 4 people not including the flies down the hallway. I decided to sit back down and use my hand sanitizer. The food was sub par I will say my garlic fries were a 10/10 I got the pesto chicken sandwich I thought they sort of skimmed me on the chicken. The chili did not say there would be huge chunks of onion with little to no meat and it being more of a soup. Also my mom said her sandwich was way too salty along with her potatoes so that was disappointing. All and all the service was marginal although our server was very sweet, we were not greeted for quite sometime when there were no more than two other tables seated inside when we were already ready to order and everything. I don't usually go out and dine in Jamestown but I did hear they had some other cool spots. I recommend checking those ones out vs this one unfortunately because it does have potential so hopefully the staff can work on that. read more

Stayed in Jamestown to be close to Sonora. Walked down Main St on Sunday morning around 8 and it was the only thing open... but that's ok, it's everything you need for a breakfast spot! They have plenty of breakfast options as well as sandwiches, salads, soups, burgers. I ordered the Veggie Benedict and hash browns and husband got the chicken fried steak with hash browns and eggs. I ate every bite of my meal which I rarely do, portions were just right. Service was prompt and friendly, perfect small town vibe. This place has outdoor seating so we were able to dine with our dog. First let me start off and say that the folks working here are lovely. The food was not good. We started off with mozzarella sticks. They were terrible. The cheese was not even melted. How do you screw up mozzarella sticks? I had the French Dip. It was disgusting. The meat was so over cooked and it tasted like it was cooked a week ago. I hate to leave bad reviews, I really do. Walked in and right away, there's a dog laying in the walkway. As we ate, it barked loudly at one of the employees. Annoying and gross. Dogs belong outside and now that other people read this and know they let a mutt into the resteraunt, others will likely bring theirs too. We heard a lot of good things about this place so we figured we should try it out. This little town is cute and lots of little shops and places to eat. The parking is on the street for most these places. When we arrived we were greeted right away and sat. The waitress was very nice and helpful. She brought the menus over and they served breakfast, lunch and dinner plates. Of course I had to go on Yelp and check the photos and receiws of what the most talked about meal was. Well the Santa fe French dip had a lot of good reviews. I even asked our waitress and she suggested that especially if I like mushrooms I also got the homemade potato salad. I was obviously hungry. Lol. Well the food came out quick and was hot. I must say the Sante Fe French dip is all it's set out to be. So much flavor and the bread was so soft. Fries were good too. A great addition to the Jamestown dining options, the Smoke Café is up and running! Located just a few feet down from our favorite Jamestown hotel, the National, it is a great place for breakfast. The menu choices are very broad and cover most tastes. The egg plate I chose came with a lot of options. I went with the hash browns, sausage patties and pancakes- a big meal for only $12! Because of a mix up, I was also able to sample their biscuits and gravy- they were delicious. Our server, Bev, was quick and attentive. The café itself is roomy and looks brand new. Lots of booths inside. We decided to have our breakfast on the front patio. Very nice. We'll be bacon our next visit. read more

After a night at our favorite National Hotel, we saw the new sign proclaiming 'open 7 days a week at 7 am' two businesses away along the historical main street. My eggplant sandwich with grilled red peppers, yellow squash, grilled eggplant, pesto, mozzarella & tomato on grilled sourdough was so delicious & packed with veggies & gooey cheese. The Smoke House seems to be the gathering place in Jamestown. The restaurant was busy midday on a warm Saturday. I am pretty sure most of the people were local; everyone was talking to each other as they came through the door. We ate outside and it was very pleasant. We came here for an International Photo Day Walk. It was about a two-hour drive. To me that can only mean one thing--it was a road trip. I ordered my favorite road trip meal, a chicken-fried steak without eggs. The meal came with a choice of potatoes and bread or a biscuit with gravy. I expected a small biscuit, but it filled a saucer and was covered with the same delicious gravy that covered the chicken-fried steak. I really enjoyed my meal. The steak was tender and it had the right amount of breading, I chose hashbrowns and they were good too. I ate everything on my plate and a portion of the biscuits. I did have the senior special; the waitress was concerned that it was only a half order, which was fine with me. I did not want to carry leftovers when I was walking around town and home. I did have a bit of food envy K had an omelet I don't remember what he said it was but it looked wonderful and I am not a fan of omelets. I suspect I will be in Jamestown again and I would stop here for a good meal. If I decided I was not on a road trip I would try some of the other menu selections. read more

The mission of the restaurant states, "Classic American food with unique California flavors in the heart of historic Jamestown." We're talking about The Smoke Cafe, a classic, "old school" diner located in the Mother Lode town of Jamestown, CA. Do you like the color "green?" The walls and partitions of the entire restaurant are painted green, with white trim, which, in my opinion, makes for an attractive decor. The dining room is interesting as it's actually two levels, with the second level being about three steps higher than the lower level. The lower level furniture is all booths, while the upper level features a combination of booths and tables. The walls are decorated with framed photos, taken by local photographers, and each photo is for sale. The kitchen is located at the extreme rear of the restaurant. Besides for-sale photographs, there is a television monitor, tuned to country music videos. I found the song, "It's Five O'clock Somewhere" to be quite appropriate on this early Tuesday morning. The breakfast menu at The Smoke Cafe features all of your breakfast "comfort food" and everything a breakfast lover could desire. The Smoke Cafe is serious about breakfast, and breakfast - or lunch - is offered any time the restaurant is open. You can order from the breakfast or lunch menu, as anything listed on the menu is available anytime the restaurant is open. Of course I was tempted to order a cheeseburger, but I went with breakfast... From the "Breakfast - Served All Day" section of the menu, I went for, "Hand-breaded country fried steak with country gravy and eggs." My side of choice was in-house-made beans, my eggs fried over easy, and sourdough toast. The side choice is vast, as hash browns, home fries, biscuit, pancake fresh fruit or beans can be ordered... how could I ever resist in-house-made refried beans as my side of choice? The "star" of this "old school" breakfast was the hand-breaded country fried steak, which was, indeed... seasoned, hand-breaded and pounded tender, into shape. Naturally it was deep fried to a darker, crispy brown, and covered with LOTS of thick, delicious country gravy. I'd like to add the gravy was thick, rich, flavorful and had LARGE chunks of sausage... the chunks of sausage actually stuck out of the gravy! Folks, that's "chunky" gravy, certainly! The two eggs were perfectly fried, over easy, as I ordered, which shows the chef has talent, as it isn't easy to deliver a perfectly fried egg, over easy. Cassidy pointed out to me the refried beans are made in-house daily, and one taste of the delicious beans made a believer out of me, as cans simply don't happen at The Smoke Cafe. The beans were rich, creamy, smooth and seasoned, with just a hint of... dare I say? ... lard? Or was I simply imagining? The beans were simply delicious, and as much as I adore hash browns, good, in-house-made refried beans are always a welcome diversion from hash browns. The beans were simply delicious, and reminded me of refried beans that I've enjoyed during the many trips I've taken to Baja California, Mexico. The chef at The Smoke Cafe must have paid a visit to Magna's, as their refried beans taste deliciously similar. The sourdough toast was perfectly toasted, buttered with real butter, and was simply delicious. I used a piece to mop up every bit of gravy from my plate, which must have made the staff happy, as my plate was "finger-lickin' clean." The Smoke Cafe's combination of an amazing country fried steak, topped with chunky sausage gravy, refried beans and perfectly fried eggs makes for a breakfast that would bring a smile to a Tuolumne County "foodie," or anybody who loves a diner-style breakfast that tastes like mom's home cookin'. In a single word... DELICIOUS! When you dine at The Smoke Cafe, you'll enjoy delicious, classic, "Americana" diner cuisine, served by friendly staff, in the heart of historic Jamestown.
