Salt & Pepper Chicken Wings (12)

My coworkers raved about Peony Garden which led me to trying this restaurant and what I can say is that they overhyped it. The food is decent and by all means it actually has flavor that tastes like authentic Chinese food. I felt the prices for the area were fair, given it's located at a more affluent location and the restaurant itself has a very cultural aesthetic and overall welcoming atmosphere when seated. What I didn't appreciate however was the nonexistent service. This was my first time ordering food at this business for takeout and I felt that couldn't have been treated as more of an after thought. My order was over $50 but that didn't seem to matter when in comparison to other patrons who were dressed more business professional despite me arriving there in uniform and with attire that was representative of the company I am employed at. Even more, staff is known to receive better treatment from this business when it is known so I have no idea what made me an outlier. I found it annoying that the employee who served me made sure that the customer ahead was given 5 star service offering fortune cookies, sauces and other amenities when I was only offered two forks. She gave them gratitude but with me was passive and dismissive. While I wasn't pleased at all with the quality of service, I can't state that I was content with my meal. The quality of food tasted better than most Chinese restaurants located in affluent areas and the prices were definitely fair. While I'll probably never eat there again, the service gets a 1.5/5, the food, a 3/5.

I was in search of a good fried rice ,chow mein and something salt and pepper fried in the diablo area. My co worker raved about this place so I had to try it. I was so disappointed. I was such a spacious well designed restaurant. In the summer time I'm sure it's delightful. The staff was nice, but not attentive. They are doing so many things at once. Greeting, answering the phone, seating people, answering questions from staff. It was a lot going on, I now see why my order was wrong. The rice has the frozen mixed vegetables in it and I didn't get to try the chow mein because they made it a rice instead so 2 disappointing rices went to waste. The salt and pepper chicken wings were blah. But I will say I feel like the salt and pepper fish was 7/10 I think it would have been better if I had eaten it there. Yes, I should call out that I got the food to go. Not sure if they forgot who I was but I waited forever at the bar and when I finally had some sense to go ask how much longer it look like it had been sitting at the counter for a while. I must say it was getting tons of door dash orders. But to me it lacked flavor that I enjoy from Asian cuisine. But I won't be back that was 89 bucks down the drain. I'll keep searching. I was only able to capture my drink at the bar which was also mid.

I used to come here all the time - but the menu has changed significantly. The add on dim sum gave me more choices - aim for chicken feet! The dinning rooms and the outside sitting atea next to the creek I are all good places to sit. Service is best! They're very attentive and remember that I bring my own containers to go

Went here after a quick search for Asian food in the area. Not really "good" in my opinion and here's why: PROS: - Easy to find location on a main road - Parking to the side/back of the restaurant - Nice decor, lots of seating (no pics, I meant to but forgot!) - Good, quick servers... not chatty but pleasant(ish) - Good portion sizes CONS - There was an odd/musty/foul smell in the front foyer of the restaurant that was still there when we left about an hour later - Food taste of the main dishes were quite bland and underwhelming (except for the app!) - Stingy on the prawns in the (Kung Pao Prawns). The beef dish had a proper protein ratio, but was also bland tasting. All in all, although the appetizer was good there was nothing that really impressed us about this dinner. It was surprisingly and disappointingly "mid" on the things that matter to me most. As such, for now, it's not high up on my list of places to revisit.

Walnut Creek says suburbia to me. I've never lived here, but every time I come here, it feels like the type of town I grew up in on the peninsula... shopping centers, parking lots, more shopping centers, more parking lots. I had finished a hearty hike at Castle Rock (review: https://yelp.to/i33_7DIAT8) and thought I might find something good around Broadway Plaza as I crossed slow-timed traffic signals and treacherous parking lot entrances. I made it to this rather low-key Chinese restaurant that looked a cut above the takeout spots more common in suburbia. I was led to the terrace area where only a senior couple was already dining with what looked like quite the banquet of Cantonese favorites. Despite the temptations of dim sum and wonton soup noodles, I gravitated to the $13 Oriental Chicken Salad. Bingo! That was exactly what I wanted even though I have a personal bias against any dish referred to as 'Oriental'. C'mon, it ain't a rug. However, it was delicious with iceberg lettuce, crispy rice noodles, and fried breast meat mixed in a light vinaigrette, julienned carrots, and crushed peanuts (photo: https://yelp.to/SfSGR4bT_9). Even the senior couple asked me what I ordered presumably for next time. "ASIAN Chicken Salad", I replied. FOOD - 4 stars...fresh Chinese chicken salad without the extra calories AMBIANCE - 4 stars...pleasant and atmospheric, not harried SERVICE - 3.5 stars...attentive enough TOTAL - 4 stars...a good chicken salad can be hard to find RELATED - Exploring Walnut Creek? I literally found a worm inside my wonton soup! The rest is history. I don't even want to spend my time answering any other questions... disgusting! Updating my review: Uber Eats only refunded the soup, I ordered the Chow Fun as well and they cannot issue the refund because the worm was found in the soup not in the other item. I called the restaurant, the manager said she cannot do anything because it was ordered through a 3rd party (uber eats) the only thing she could do is giving me a food credit. Seriously? Who would accept credit from a place that you can find worm in their food. I will never. Never ever order in there again nor freaking Uber Eats!

I was looking for a restaurant to take my mom out for her birthday. She really doesn't like restaurants, so I had to find the right one. She likes small, shared plates and she likes Asian food. I thought dim sum would be appropriate. I was delighted when this restaurant was suggested to me as I wanted a restaurant that had a nice ambiance as well. The outdoor back patio here is lovely! There's a fountain, and the restaurant also sits above the creek. In their back patio, you're surrounded by trees, and you kind of forget that you're near downtown Walnut Creek. The outdoor dining here is a treat. The small plates were also exactly what we were looking for. We got an array to share, and then we ordered two main dishes after we were through with the dim sum. My mom picked out an eggplant dish that was the star of the meal. Every since then, we regularly try to order eggplant at Chinese restaurants, but no one has done it as well Peony Garden. We've gotta go back for that. Although, we've only been here the one time, we still talk about it a lot. My husband and I really enjoyed our dining experience here, both for the outdoor dining setting and their dishes! We'll have to go back soon, but we always want to try new places.

Peony Garden is a charming and authentic Cantonese restaurant in Walnut Creek that offers a delightful dining experience. From the moment you step inside, you're greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere. The service is consistently friendly and attentive, making you feel right at home.   The menu boasts a wide array of classic Cantonese dishes, all prepared with fresh ingredients and skillful execution. We particularly enjoyed the dim sum, the soups. The flavors were well-balanced and the portions were generous. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated, creating a serene and relaxing ambiance. Whether you're looking for a casual lunch or a special occasion dinner, Peony Garden is an excellent choice Beautiful back area at Peony garden. High quality food, at normal Walnut Creek prices. We usually take our friends here because it's really easy to park and also you can find something for everyone. I don't normally like eating chinese in WC because it's expensive and Americanized but Peony stays fairly authentic. Staff is great with kids and portions are plenty. Here are some key takeaways: Authentic Cantonese Cuisine: Expect a wide variety of delicious and authentic Cantonese dishes. Warm and Inviting Atmosphere: The restaurant has a cozy and welcoming ambiance. Excellent Service: The staff is friendly, attentive, and always ready to assist. Perfect for Various Occasions: Suitable for both casual dining and special occasions.

I am glad to see that this place has good business during lunch since there aren't that many choices for dim sum in Walnut Creek and I want them to stay in business. Rather than placing the line on hold because she has a live customer in front of her, she decides to dive into the conversation! I'm very keen on customer service, and the fact that I was initially unacknowledged and then intentionally overlooked tells me all I need to know. They don't have to worry about getting my business.

In my opinion, it's a step above, with a much wider variety of dishes and plenty of choices beyond the usual favorites. Their beef rolls are especially worth ordering, they're much more substantial, packed with flavor, and very satisfying. Another thing that really stood out to me is the space. The restaurant is relatively clean, open, and spacious, which makes the overall experience much more comfortable than some of the smaller, crowded spots in the area.
