At first, I really liked Dr Castillo. She seemed friendly, and kind, and efficient. However, my experiences got worse each time. One of the things that bothers me the most is that she charges items at the last minute or without your awareness, and then you are left scrambling to find out why. A couple of times, I was told there would be no charge, only to have one sent through eventually. I have had to go back and have crowns adjusted or fixed after she did them, and one fell out less than six months after I got it. She can also be quite rude to her own staff. My husband and I both saw Dr. Castillo for 4 years while in NYC. We both feel that she is the best dentist we've ever seen. She is practicing state of the art techniques. She also is very focused on appropriate anesthesia and really had painless procedures (I had a cavity, my husband a crown). Furthermore, she has very respectable business practices. She figured out that we had better coverage under my husband's insurance. She REFUNDED us the difference, without us even asking. I feel there are very few businesses that would't pocket that difference. She had no incentive to look into that process for us. I was extremely unhappy with my experience with Dr. Castillo. She discovered mid-appointment that I needed a root canal and told me it would take three more appointments to finish. Each time I went in that number went up, and I was told that I had misunderstood her in my previous appointment. This continued for seven appointments. When I paid my significant bill, I was assured by her staff that I was paid in full and no other charges would be incurred. I was told this twice-- the second time with an apology and an explanation that there had been a mistake, but that this was definitively the final charge. Six months later I got a call demanding more money. When I argued with the receptionist her response was that she was new and had no idea what was going on, she just made the calls the dentist told her to. She told me she would look into my account and call me back later. She never did, and when I called back Dr. Castillo's answering service told me her office was not open, was in fact on vacation for the whole month. When I eventually got a response over a month later it was an assurance that they would look into the billing issue and that I would not be charged until they called me back and explained the situation to me. The next word I received from her office was another bill marked six months overdue along with a threat that I would be turned over to a collection agency. When I called her office the receptionist explained to me that she was new, had no idea what was going on, and simply made the calls the doctor told her to. I am filling a complaint with the New York Board of Dentistry. Do not use this dentist. read more

Every good Dentist story begins the same way ... "after years of awful dentists .... " Well my story is no different. I had a Dentist so bad they messed up not one ...not two but three root canals. I needed an urgent dental procedure after being diagnosed with an unfortunate incidental condition on a routine x-ray. It was a time fraught with anxiety and uncertainty. I was afraid of the procedure and worried about the financial expense. Dr. Castillo and her excellent team did a great job of putting me at ease. They explained the process clearly and provided me with a manageable payment plan. The procedure itself was done with superlative skill and the gentlest demeanor. I've been going to Dr. Castillo for almost 10 years and she has done a lot of work to my teeth including a dental implant, root canals and fillings - all this virtually painless! I was with her just for cleaning. The first time she used only a machine and did such a poor job that she chopped a piece of my front tooth. Next time she did exactly the same thing, and when I asked her why she does not finish cleaning manually what every other dentist does, she tried to convince me that her machine is special and it is not necessary. The cleaning was done so poorly that I had to go for another cleaning a month later. The dentist who did that cleaning is now my dentist, a very good one. He spent more than an hour cleaning my teeth, and thought that I did not have a cleaning for a very long time. He used a "special" machine at the beginning but spent at least half an hour doing it manually. A friend of mine had a similar experience with Dr. Castillo but with filling. It fell out one week after it was done, and she had to do it again. But like me, she decided to do it with another dentist who did it properly. On top of being a very bad dentist, she will make you pay and do things that you do not need to do. So, be careful and think before yuo decide to have her for your dentist. read more

For this reason alone, I've had to find another dentist. Literally, for weeks I called and called and emailed and left messages, and no one ever answered the phone or called me back. I was recommended to see Dr. Castillo by my friend and co-worker. Dr. Castillo is very pleasant and seemed very knowledgable to me. I have to go for a second visit soon, but giving 3 stars now since I had to wait for 35 min in the waiting room. Given that I only have 1 hour lunch time, it's a little bit of inconvenience. But Dr. Castillo apologized for the wait and made sure that I wasn't rushed out. Oh... Another drawback, the office doesn't have 360 degree X-Ray machine so the assistant had to use old fashion 50 films for the whole mouth to take x-rays. read more

Dr. Castillo has been my primary dentist for 5+ years. She has always been reliable, responsible and extremely professional. Her facility is clean and conveniently located, and her staff are all very nice and well trained. Lately I had a gum graft surgery. She explained the procedure to me with great details, reiterated post-surgical instructions, and scheduled a couple of follow-ups to keep track of recovery. Dr. Castillo is the best dentist I have ever been to. She is so nice, gentle, knowledgeable and the procedures are not painful. She will make sure you have numbing gel or whatever it needs for you to be comfortable. Her assistants are also very sweet. I have had the worst dental experiences in the past with many many dentists...I was always in a lot of pain at the dentist and repetitively told "I don't brush or floss enough" (which I do!!) and I was told that I would need some severe gum procedures done... I tried finding another dentist because I was so nervous around my old one. I'm so happy I found Dr. Castillo (a referral from endo Dr. Young Bui). She told me the gum procedures were not necessary and helped me fix up my teeth (painlessly, I couldn't believe it) and she helped me get Invisalign to improve my smile. I'm very grateful for Dr. Castillo and truly recommend her. She is very patient and really cares about you. (Also, the receptionists are the most pleasant beings on this earth). I went to see Dr. Castillo thanks to my boyfriend. He found her through his work intranet. She had good recommendations. He had two fillings and he is quite happy with them. I had several teeth problems (a crooked and impacted wisdom tooth), trouble giving root canals. As my case was pretty particular, she sent me to specialists about the wisdom tooth and the root canal. Those two doctors were good as well, especially the dental surgeon for the wisdom tooth, Peter Sherman, he is the best. I appreciate her sending me to specialists. Some doctors just want to do it all themselves. Then I had to say bye to one of my problematic root canal teeth and went to Dr. Castillo for the extraction. I believe she did a good job, no swelling no infection (it's been three days so far). The reason I like Dr. Castillo is she cares about her patients. I texted her on her emergency phone and she was really helpful. I am going to get an implant in 3-6 months and will report on that as well. read more

My experience was ok over all. I was referred to the office by a friend, when I made my appointment I asked if they participated in my plan, which is MetLife PPO. They said yes, they lied; I ended up paying close to 50% of the total charges. Moreover, I had some dental fillings and the space between my teeth became hard to floss, so I brought up this to Dr. Yiselle and was dismissed. Otherwise, I was treated well, my appointments were pleasant. MY point is if they lied about their plan participation what prevents them from lying about what procedures I needed. I am not sure. After reading other reviews on Yelp, I visited Dr. Castillo today with an emergency chipped tooth. After a quick examination, I was informed that it was only a chipped old filling and was easy to remedy. Dr. Castillo walked me through the procedure beforehand and also during the procedure (step by step). I was pleasantly surprised how easy, quick and pain free the process was (did I mention that I don't like dentists by default ). It's possible that I found my NY dentist in Dr Castillo however. Dr. Castillo has been my dentist as well as my family's provider for most of my life. As a patient since childhood, and now as an adult, I can say with confidence I would never go anywhere else.
