Dr. Ali is incredible - I highly recommend her (wish I made an appointment years ago). My jaw has been in pain for ~4 years and I didn't know who to see or what the issue was. I went to several doctors over the years to explain the pain. None of them were sure what it was and said it would go away in time. Eventually one doctor directed me to take naproxen, but it didn't help. When I met with Dr. Ali, she knew exactly what was going on and how to treat it (this blew my mind because she was the first person I could relate to about the issue). I really appreciated the extra time taken to review everything that was being done, including the science and anatomy behind the condition - for example how the pH of the saliva can change with ones diet and lack of sleep which leaves the mouth unprotected and can lead to decay and possibly gum disease. I've been going to Dr. Ali for about 7 years now. When I first came to see her my teeth were a mess, the result of poor brushing technique and lack of flossing during those young naive years when I didn't get the importance of proper dental hygiene. But she cleaned me up, replaced my old silver fillings, AND filled new cavities with beautiful tooth-colored porcelain fillings. Ever since then she has continued to take great care of my teeth (and my husband's); at every visit she is very thorough in her cleanings and my teeth feel a bit strange after...because they are so clean! She always seems to have the best state of the art equipment on hand, and the office is clean as well as convenient for me, in midtown. I think it was fate (the good kind!) that led me to Dr. Noreen Ali. We briefly met once through a mutual acquaintance and the next time we crossed paths, we exchanged business cards. I noted that she was a cosmetic dentist, a realization that couldn't have been better timed, as I had just vowed get my two front teeth redone. I booked consultations with her and two other dentists recommended by friends. Dr. Ali was the first appointment and I was so pleased that I cancelled my other consultations. Here's what I got done: bleaching and porcelain crowns on my 2 front teeth. I had broken my teeth a while back and the dentist did a not-so-great (awful) job. They weren't the right color, size, and one was deteriorating. I took so long to do anything about it because I had been borderline traumatized and extremely distrustful of dentists due to previous experiences. But my self-consciousness about my teeth was at a boiling point, so I decided to take action. Here's why I chose Dr. Ali and why I am happy with my decision: - She was not pushy and didn't try to fast-talk me into getting services I didn't come for. - She clearly explained everything she was doing during the appointment, as well as what the entire process would entail. I knew what the cost, timeframe and procedures would be from start to finish when I left the consultation. - She didn't double and triple book patients. I didn't have to wait. - She is thorough and detailed. She did things my other dentist hadn't done, like measure my gums and teeth. That's the difference between receiving a perfect crown--and something else. I need a perfectionist working on my teeth--and that's what Dr. Ali is. - She's gentle. I was very anxious because I've had some bad experiences, but it turned out I had nothing to fear. She was very sensitive to my comfort level and I didn't have any pain. The next appointment, I was free from anxiety, knowing what to expect. - Great follow up--and technology savvy. She's reachable via text and she followed up to make sure I was doing well after my appointments. - Pricing - I was paying out of pocket and although I didn't visit those other dentists I had arranged consultations with, I did call to find out their pricing, and hers were best. - RESULTS. The final product totally exceeded my expectations. I wasn't quite sure what to expect. My biggest concern was the proportions--would they be right? But I was totally blown away at just how RIGHT she got it. She really worked her magic, My smile is completely transformed. After everything I went through, (conquering my fear of dentists, etc.) my expectations were set pretty high. There's nothing like the feeling of having high expectations exceeded and having complete satisfaction in your decision. Especially in this case, where I chose Dr. Ali without a firsthand recommendation. Overall, she's and expert and a professional. It felt like she genuinely cared about what she was doing and took pride in her work. Some dentists (and healthcare providers, in general) are robotic and forget that their patients are are real people!! I highly recommend her. I wish I could give Dr. Ali more stars because I would. She is, by far, the best dentist I have ever been to. There is so much to say so I will make bullet points: - She is super smart, patient with explanations of what is happening in your mouth and seeks to want to educate you about your options so you can make informed decisions. -Her interactions with you are on point. She does not overbook so you are not rushed in and rushed out. She sits there, talks to you, is genuinely interested in you and does not bury her nose in your chart as she is listening. Her rapport with patients is great. I had a tailbone injury when I saw her today so she stopped multiple times to give me time to stretch and move. There was no feeling that she was irked in any way about spending so much time with her patients. -I do not like needles but today was the least stressful of any trip to the dentist. I got numbing gel on my gums, a tiny needle to numb up and then, the other ones one that one kicked in. It is a patient driven approach that means 5 more minutes for her but gains a long term patient. -Her office is small, neat, clean and well organized. The machines and chair are new and there is no confusion that I have seen at other offices (people cannot find charts, equipment). -She works with you to figure out how you can pay for the services and deals well with insurance. -Her adept and dexterous hygienist, Fatima, essentially, a virtuoso with the suction straw! -Misc: great music playing, paid by card, emailed receipt, central part of town. If you're looking for a thorough review on Dr. Noreen, please see below. I've been looking for a dentist in NYC for the past 5 years, and I did what you all are doing right now--which is use yelp to find the best person to do the job. Because other peoples' experiences are CRITICAL for passing judgment/choosing a health care provider. Let me just start by saying that the most important things for me in a dentist are: 1. Expertise 2. Trustworthiness 3. Painlessness and sensitivity towards patient I had a few things I wanted her to fix, which was to (A) change my silver fillings to porcelain white (I have 12 of them) and (B) fix my front tooth (which has been chipped in the past and not-so-perfectly repaired by another dentist). I've so far got my half of my fillings done--and will be posting an additional review along the way on my chipped tooth--but here are my thoughts so far. 1. She's excellent. On my first visit, I only told her I wanted fillings (just to see if she'd notice my front tooth, bc dentists usually don't). I opened my mouth and the FIRST thing she asked me was about my front tooth. [Attention to detail.] 2. I'm VERY particular about my teeth. I don't trust dentists because in the past, many have tried to push extra services on me in THEIR own interests, not mine. Noreen is the exact opposite. She told me she would address the health issues first, then worry about the pretty stuff. 3. On that^ note, she's also very real about insurance and your financial situation. She's honest and transparent and broke down everything for me when I asked her. That's VERY important because medical bills are REAL. 4. She did my fillings with NO pain. ZERO. You know why? Because she doesn't stab needles in your mouth--she's careful and COMPASSIONATE. She tries (and succeeds) to get in there in the swiftest, most delicate way--she has skilled hands. She told me that she'd take as long as she needed for me to feel the least pain. I'd NEVER heard that from a dentist before. I have also NEVER walked out of a dentist's office feeling no pain--this was my FIRST time. I literally can't wait to go back and do the remaining teeth. 5. She explains EVERYTHING she's doing. She flipped on a screen, strapped a small camera to her main tool and literally walked me through everything STEP by STEP. I understand what's happening in my mouth and how to better take care of it as a result. 6. She gets to know you before you sit in her chair. She's extremely nice, funny, and open-minded. A total sweetheart. She made me feel so comfortable. 7. She's a PRO -she's been doing this for over 20 years and has seen everything under the sun. She has literally been the best health care provider I've ever been to. Medical, Dentist, or otherwise (and I've seen my fair share of doctors). I've never ever ever co-signed a dentist or doctor before, but Noreen is my first co-sign and I'm just so passionate about this because I'm not sure why it took so long for me to find her OR live an experience like this. I couldn't be happier with my visit. I went to see Dr. Ali last week for a bi-annual cleaning. The building is in a great location. I entered the waiting area and letting them know I was there to see Dr. Ali and was ushered to the office right away with no wait. Dr. Ali usually has some nice music playing and since I had been there before she remembered the type of music I like and some alternative-rock was playing through the Bluetooth speaker. The chair and surrounding area are noticeably super clean and new. Her assistant took some new X-Rays and had them displayed in front of me on a screen literally seconds after she took them. Dr. Ali came in and welcomed warmly and to make extra sure I was comfy in the chair offered me some tissues for behind my head since I'm bald and my head sticks to the leather. Nice touch! We talked over the X-rays and I had no cavities woohoo! During the cleaning Dr. Ali made sure to continually check on me to make sure I was comfortable. She uses this neat beware water thing that blasts the teeth clean. Once my teeth were nice and sharp she gave me some flavor options for my fluoride treatment (I chose cinnamon). During the visit Dr. Ali offered me some advice about how to better take care of my teeth and educated me in a way that didn't make me feel like she was speaking to a child or scolding me, thank goodness!
