We took our 10 and 12 year old grandchildren to this Amish Home, barn and school. We also had a buggy ride. our guide was Kate, a young Mennonite woman. The whole experience was fabulous! Kate was interesting, knowledgeable, and personable. She gave factual information and answered questions. The last room we saw (and smelled!) was the kitchen where we found a sweet Amish lady actually baking bread and cookies! For a reasonable price we enjoyed the most delicious cookies! Then, we toured the barn with and older Amish gentleman named Alvin. He showed us the farm animals and let the kids pet them. Unexpected fun included the kids helping chase 6 baby pigs that had escaped their pen! What fun! I can't recommend this whole experience enough! if you can, GO. I visited Yoder's Amish Home in July 2025 with some friends. We took a guided tour of a traditional Amish home. The tour was about 1 hour and very detailed. We entered a house and were shown how the kitchen, living room, and bedrooms would have been set up. The male guide was very knowledgeable. Throughout parts of the tour though, many of us were getting hot and thirsty. The hoke we toured had no fans or air conditioning units installed just for the sake of the tour (even though I know that a traditional Amish home would not have had A/C). Complimentary water would have been a nice gesture. Nonetheless, we all powered through send finished the home tour. At the end of the tour, we were offered fresh baked goods to buy (cookies and bread). My favourite part of the tour was seeing how the kitchen looked and seeing the clothes that males and females wear. I also liked looking at a German or Pennsylvania Dutch Bible. The tour we got also included a barn tour but at the end of the home tour, everyone was hot didn't feel like entering a barn. I went to peak into the barn and saw some horses which was cool. Overall, this is a nice way to learn some history about Amish people in Ohio and in general. The price is reasonable and fair. I took my Mother on a weekend trip to the beautiful Amish Country in Northern Ohio. Yoder's Amish Home was listed as one of the top 10 Amish attractions in the state. I purchased tickets to tour the barn, both homes, the school and a quick buggy ride. Both our tickets were $26. We started in the barn where you could pet a pot belly pig and a puppy as well as some goats. There were several horses as well. The first home we toured was a conservative Amish home. What they called the master bedroom I called a large closet;) The beds were made of straw. This house was built in 1866. This family lived very humbly. A more progressive Amish family purchased the farm and built the second home. This master bedroom had its own bathroom equipped with a toilet and a bathtub. The furnishings were more modern. There was a woman and her daughter baking in this home and it smelled wonderful! They were selling baked goods. We bagged what we wanted and left cash in the money box on the table. Learning about how the children are schooled in the Amish culture was interesting. Most Amish families speak one type of German language in the home and another for their church services. And the children only speak English when they are at school. One of my highlights was the buggy ride. The gentleman was very friendly and had good conversation. The ride lasted a little less than 10 minutes. But that was just enough time to get a feel for what it's like to ride in the buggy. The farm itself was gorgeous with flowers everywhere. There were even some peacocks with babies roaming the grounds. There are no Amish communities near where I live in South Florida, so I had no idea what to expect. This was a nice introduction (although definitely "touristy"). Firstly, Yoder's Amish Home is easy to find. We used our GPS and even when we lost connection, there were signs pointing us in the right direction as we got closer. There are three tours offered: house tour, school tour, and a buggy tour. We had seen the buggy tour while we were parking and realized that it only took you in a big circle in front of the house, so we opted out. We also opted out of the schoolhouse tour because I was with three young men who don't have the attention span for that kind of thing. The tours were very affordable, and I believe there was a bundle price if you did all three. The house tour was good, despite the group being rather large and the house being rather small. We were told we could not take any videos or do any kind of recording, but that still photos were fine. The tour guide did a good job of answering our questions and seemed to know enough about Amish life to keep us interested (despite not being Amish herself). At one point in the tour we stopped in the kitchen where an Amish woman was cooking garlic rolls. THEY SMELLED AMAZING. We were told that we'd be able to purchase items she had baked at the end of the tour. By the time we got to the end, I think we were all salivating. The tour guide left us in a room full of cookies, cookie bars, whoopie pies, preserves, apple butter, Amish peanut butter spread, cinnamon rolls, you name it. It works on an honor system. All the baked goods have plastic over them with the price, and there's bags for you to fill. Before you walk out, you pay for what you got. (The oatmeal whoopie pies were my favorite!) We didn't see the tour guide again, but were told that we could roam about and check out the barn afterwards, so we did. There were lots of animals and the two little Amish girls inside said we could pet them and pick them up if we wanted. There were bunnies, horses, kitties, goats, donkeys, etc. It was a very real barn (as in, you could tell they didn't try to pretty it up for the crowd). I loved it. I also forgot to mention - in the shop where you buy your tour tickets, there are a bunch of other items you can buy (calendars, collectibles, dolls, etc). It's basically a giant Amish souvenir store. I would recommend this place if you're in the area. It's inexpensive and even if you're not into the tour - the baked goods are so worth it. read more

We do thoroughly enjoyed our visit here. The home was set up in true Amish fashion. Our tour guide knew her Amish history as well as current Amish ways of life. Our questions didn't stump her even a little bit. Bring some cash; there is an excellent opportunity to purchase some home baked yumminess right there off the kitchen. I don't recommend this business because they only take care of what makes money. There are cats there who are very sick and in need of medical attention. These people are only interested in a buck, not to mention snotty in the gift shop. I am sure the Yoder's farm animals get plenty of medical care because they earn money for the people who run the place. I was there with my family in 2007. There was a little orange and white cat who was so sick she could hardly eat the crackers I broke up for her. We went back to the Yoder farm and took that kitten home with us to Virginia. We went straight to emergency vet after hours. The poor thing cried all the way to Virginia. She was so ill and had so much mucuous that she could hardly breathe. Well, in three months, she was fine (except for losing all her teeth due to malnutrition!). This little cat was about 3 when we took her, and she just died recently at age 20. She was so smart and funny as could be. The best cat in the world. The only reason I know of to go to Yoder's would be to observe these sick cats and then report Yoder's to the local or state humane society. This place does not deserve your business. It is truly sad that such cruelty still takes place at Yoder's. Also, have no illusions driving where Amish live; its easy to see in yards that have buildings where dogs are raised. I was really looking forward to going on this tour, but I would not recommend this tour to anyone. The people working at the ticket counter are extremely rude and there are a few cats with eye infections. It was so bad, that I left early without finishing the whole tour (I reached out to a couple of different agencies in regards to the animals, but no one would assist me). read more

Came here during a trip to Amish country, and it was kind of cool! The tour of the home takes about 45min and we were a little strapped for time, so we opted for the buggy ride and just took a look at the schoolhouse. The buggy ride is $5 per adult which is actually the cheapest buggy ride we saw throughout our time in the area, and the schoolhouse is free to walk into, so overall this was a great deal! The ride was about 10 minutes which sounds short, but honestly I wouldn't have wanted a longer ride anyway- it's pretty bumpy lol. Makes for a fun little excursion and good pics, and our Amish driver was super friendly! Overall, would recommend if you're in the area! read more

I've been to lots of Amish areas and have done some tours. This was pretty standard fare. The tour guide was fairly knowledgeable and gave a good description of the homes and clothing of the Amish people. And yes, the bakery items (which you pay for on the honor system) are freshly made (that day, by Leah) and extremely reasonably priced. The school room and buggy ride were really not worth the money. A young girl (probably between 12-14) was posing as the teacher (which, since the Amish only go to school until 8th grade, I suppose she could have been), but she seemed nervous and was kind of on autopilot. There really wasn't any more information -- and maybe less -- than I've seen in other self-guided schoolhouses that had written descriptions. The buggy ride is, as someone else said, a joke. It literally goes all the way around a circle once and then half way around again. It is just a path on grass -- absolutely nothing to look at or talk about. I was lucky to be the only passenger in the carriage so I got to talk to the driver a little, but it was awkward. I would say that if you've not seen an Amish house before, it is worth it to do so, but otherwise, it's probably nothing different than what you've already seen. read more

WONDERFUL! We came to "Amish country" as a get away to celebrate our anniversary. We visited a winery, a bakery and a cheese shop then turned our focus to the local culture and I'm so glad we did! At Yoder's we had the chance to walk back in time and experience an unplugged life. The barn, built in 1885, was full of livestock and new born babies including puppies, kittens, goats, acalf and lambs with bunnies and pigletes due any day. Roman was our guide and proud owner of the beutiful brown horse that greated us as we entered the barn. The gradparents house was small, lacked plumbing and was a throw back to an era I'm grateful I missed but touring the big house reminded me of the farm house my great aunt and uncle still live in today in NW Ohio with a modest bedroom off the living room, modern bathroom and kitchen that was the clean and functional hub of the home. The dining room was converted to a bakery with fresh cookies available for $.50 each with a variety of breads, cinamonnon rolls and canned goodsall produced in the kitchen. The school house was a "modern" 1 room building for 4&5th graders. We really enjoyed the buggy ride. Ray was our driver and patiently answered our questions. Whenever we take friends to visit Amish country, Yoder's Family Home is on our tour agenda. It's a way of counteracting the touristy knickknack shops and schtick that fills most of Amish country, and allows them a chance to get a small idea of what Amish life is about. If you take the whole tour, you will first visit the old house, which shows the simplest of lifestyles, then the new house, where the tour guide will explain the variety of choices that different orders of Amish make regarding what technological advances are acceptable. It's quite interesting to realize that the Amish are not as faceless and uniform as their dolls. In the kitchen of the new house, you will be given the opportunity to purchase baked and canned goods, many of which are produced right in this very kitchen by young Amish girls who are employed by Yoder's. This is a great place for a sweet snack at a very reasonable price. After the house tour, you may visit the barn, where livestock is living out its very easy life. There will likely be kittens and puppies to cuddle, and maybe even lambs. This part of the tour is at your leisure, so you may spend as much or as little time as you want. After the barn, exit back out through the (inevitable) gift shop, and walk over to the one-room schoolhouse. While this schoolhouse was built strictly for demonstration purposes, the young teacher there will be happy to answer questions about Amish education and lifestyle. Finally, line up for your turn to ride in the buggy. The drivers we've had have been very friendly and happy to talk while giving you your two turns around the carriage path. The people working at the farm aren't all practicing Amish. Some are Mennonites, some are people who have left the faith. But they are all enthusiastic about sharing the history of the Amish. The barn had to be my girls favorite - they were able to hold puppies, a rabbit and pet some of the livestock. The gift shop was fantastic filled with one of a kind items. With a friend visiting from out of town we decided to head to Amish country for a taste of the simple life. She wanted to experience a real Amish farm and I knew we had to go to Yoder's. I've been there before and could vouch for the knowledgeable tour guides, beauty of the land, friendly staff, breadth of experience and delicious Amish bakery. It did not disappoint. At Yoder's you really get a taste of what Amish life is like, without all of the commercialism on other properties. Sure there is a gift store and they sell Amish goods but it isn't obnoxious. When traveling up to Amish country this is a definite must. The tour of the 2 Amish homes was the highlight. Our guide, a former member of the Amish church, was chock full of history, knowledge, fun facts and humor. She truly made the experience all I had hoped it would be. The "bakery", another highlight, was filled with delectable goodies at reasonable prices. Make sure you bring cash (small bills if possible) because that is all these lovely ladies accept. We had the fried fruit pies and cookies. Delicious!!!! The school house tour is another great stop. The information shared was wonderful and I liked that they allowed us to ask many questions. I left there with a fuller understanding of the Amish school system. Our "guide" was sweet as could be and very approachable. Why the one star deduction you ask? The buggy ride. I almost felt taken advantage of. The buggy ride consisted of two loops around a small gravel way. It lasted under 5 minutes. How can you charge for that? Our guide was pleasant but really offered no information or much conversation at all. Not worth the money at all. Overall, this is a must stop on your Amish itinerary. I expected a small, family run business that was simple but clean and engaging for my kids. Instead, I found the place to be shabby and run down. The middle aged woman running the gift shop and taking tickets was particularly unwelcoming and even downright rude during several interactions. The only saving grace were the puppies and kittens, and Elsa, the kind woman who bakes delicious cookies in the bakery. Overall, I'd recommend Hershberger's as a much better alternative for families looking for something to do. read more

They offer tours of an Amish home built in the 1860's, a barn, old school house and buggy ride. A complete package will run you $12. The house tour alone is $7.50. I do highly recommend the house tour, which is what we did. It provided great insights into Amish history, lifestyle and beliefs. I found it quite informative! One word to the wise, eat before you go!!! Staff are about taking care of the premises and baking home made goods. The aroma from the kitchen is quite enticing! We went once and got the full tour which is interesting if you've never been to Amish Country or another place like the Farm at Walnut Creek. It's a bit overpriced, especially the buggy ride which is a joke. However, we often go back to this place to go their barn. My kids love to go in and pet the animals, they usually have puppies, kittens, chicks, sometimes baby pot belly pigs, goats, rabbits and horses. The kids have a blast petting them. And like anything in Amish Country it will cost you, $1ea to enter the barn. I hope Amish pay taxes like the rest of us because like this place and Disney, everything in Amish country is designed to separate you from your wallet. read more

I highly recommend Yoder's if you want to get a bit of Amish life and history. Much of the staff that I met were actually Amish, and they we all very friendly and responsive to our questions. The house tour was very interesting and filled with a lot of fascinating history and information on contemporary Amish living. At the end of the tour you can buy baked goods that are made right in the house. The barn tour was likewise worth the time, and the nice old Amish gentleman giving the tour was great. After that we took the buggy ride, which lasts just a few minutes, but it was an enjoyable opportunity to talk to Roman, our Amish buggy driver. The schoolhouse tour was kind of a waste of time as it takes a separate ticket, yet it lasted only about 3 or 4 minutes. All in all, I was very happy with our visit. There are several Amish tourist farms in the area, but I was looking for one that was authentic and not too "touristy". Yoder's fits the bill. read more
